Hiya,

Just thought it might be nice to start a thread for those of us due in May 2010. I know its only early days but I followed one of these whilst being pg with DS1 and it was invaluable.

Couldn't find one for my dates this time round (might be wrong?) so thought it would be nice to get together, share stories and follow the progress with some others in the same time-period.

I'm due 6/7 May I think. Didn't really plan to have such a short gap between DS1 and DC2 but also didn't do much to prevent it. (IYSWIM!)

Have started feeling nauseous already(!) which I can't believe as I didn't have it nearly as early as this last time round. No sickness last time and a very enjoyable pregnancy - so am hoping for the same again this time round. Slight disaster with giving birth 2 weeks early with no hospital notes or hospital bag, two hours from home and at a family funeral...(!) So am going to stay AT HOME near the end this time round. Really looking forward to giving birth again. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience last time and looking forward to hearing other peoples stories and sharing our pg's together!

Hi Madigan, I would have liked a smaller gap between mine, sounds like a lot of fun in your house!

Hard work I'm sure, but they will have so much in common, I find it hard to find suitable activities sometimes for my 10 year old and 2 year old!

My brother has four all under the age of five, the last two are 12 months apart! He loves it, and I must admit I would love another straight away!

I'm not surprised you are tired, I have sudden burts of energy followed by extreme tiredness!

I'm hoping for a home waterbirth, but have put a small basic bag together 'just in case'!

LOL at your riding horses and drinking wine, not at the same time I hope! I will be breastfeeding so it will be a while before I can enjoy a glass, we have a family wedding to go to shortly after my due date but I have never been that great at expressing!

Looking forward to hearing everyones progress over the coming weeks x

morethemerrier · 14/04/2010 20:44

Oh I forgot, due date 14th May!

millingtonsmummy · 14/04/2010 21:56

Hi again ladies,

Madigan, I can't believe the age gaps between your DC! DD is 2 yo and this pregnancy is my 2nd, you've squeezed another in in the same time!!

more the merrier, my plan is to have the baby at a local midwifery unit in the grounds of the hospital. Luckily for me I live in SW London and am only a couple of minutes drive away. I have had the "unplanned homebirth" conversation with my midwife though .

I love being pregnant too! I almost daren't say it in the company of most of my pregnant friends as so many pregnant women suffer with all sorts of ailments. I realise just how lucky I am that things are going smoothly for me but with both my pregnancies the worst bit by far is the first 3/4 months with exhaustion and sickness. Life with a newborn and toddler is going to hit me hard!

Hospital bag is packed and has been for a couple of weeks now, I went into labour without having done it last time so along with the panic of things happening quickly DH had to run around stuffing things in a suitcase! I promised it wouldn't happen this time .

Madigan · 15/04/2010 07:57

morethemerrier - did you have a homebirth last time? I just cannot imagine doing that ........ I am sure it must be amazing though: I am just not brave enough!!!
Millingtnsmummy - what is your due date?

Feeling knackered today, as up several times during night administering calpol/ibuprofren to poorly 2 yo - she seems better this morning tho.
Also have rotten cold .......... but good news is am off for pre-baby "mini-break" to nearby posh hotel with husband .......... yippee! I get to have a lie-in tomorrow, oh and a delicious dinner tonight cooked by someone else ......... am v excited.

How are you this morning?

Madigan · 15/04/2010 07:58

and hello Kate - hope you get that nursery finished!!!

morethemerrier · 15/04/2010 09:30

Hi Madigan, sorry to hear about your night,I hope your little one is feeling better soon!

What a lovely treat though, I am sure you will get spoilt rotten, and well deserved in my opinion!

Whenever I get chance to have a lie in, I am always wide awake at the crack of dawn! Typical!

Both my births have been fairly straight forward, I have been lucky, the last one was just three hours so that along with the fact that the maternity unit where I had both my boys has recently been closed, prompted me to opt for a homebirth!

I seem to tollerate labour to an extent that during both my previous labours (the first 11 hours)I was repeatedly told 'nothing much was happening', as I was 'far to comfortable' to be in established labour!

I gave birth within an hour and a half of those 'observations' both times!

The last time, I was left in a massive cold room (think it was an empty observation ward)without any pain relief as the midwife was not expecting me to progress and was planning to send me home! Good job I stood my ground or DS2 would have been born in the car park! When he moved down I made an indescribable noise that she realised things were happening!

I think its because I tend to labour in my back, so when they put their hands on my tummy and declare, that wasn't a strong one, they just assume I am a mardie bum and can't cope with early labour! My latent phase seems to be the hardest part then I whizz through the transition! I went from 6-10cms when my waters broke and two pushes later he was out, no time for a second midwife, and I had only been moved into the delivery room about 30mins before!

So in the end it was all a bit rushed, and this time just hoping for a more relaxed time! There was no discussion about birth plan, synto injection, etc there just wasn't time in the end! And I did get a bit upset when she wouldn't listen to me that I knew he was coming!

I had to get DH to ask her to look when I felt my waters break as I needed to push and was having a massive contraction, but it was only afetr he strongly 'insisted' she agreed as her first reply was they are only allowed to examine every four hours!

Don't get me wrong, I know you can't predict these things, but I do feel that sometimes mum's are not dealt with as individuals during labour, funny as we are told that every pregnancy/birth is different and yet we are all expected to follow a set time scale for birth!!!

Ohhh, where did all that come from? Oh yeah, so in a nutshell (?) homebirth feels like the best option, and I think I will feel more settled knowing that I am there for the duration, there is nothing worse than knowing you may give birth in a car if they dont believe you are in labour!

Have a lovley mini break, have you considered Spatone to build your iron stores up? Its natural so doesnt bung you up and it really made a difference for me last time!

Madigan · 16/04/2010 09:03

HI morethe merrier -

v interesting to hear your birth stories .... sounds like your homebirth is a really good idea and I am sure it will go very well. Are you likely to go overdue or do your babies generally arrive on time?

Well minibreak did not go as planned ...... although DD1 was in good health yesterday morning (when I left), she took a turn for the worse at lunchtime, so I had to come back and look after her ....... which then involved a trip to the local hospital because her temp was so high and her breathing rapid/shallow. We eventually got back from hospital at 11pm and are both exhausted now ...... but at least her temp is down.

So! not exactly the treat I had planned!

DH works away from home, so dealing with all this on my own. Never mind.

Have not tried Spatone, but take Ferasday ... not sure it is working. Still have a cold but do not feel too bad. Have really "forgotten" about pregnancy/impending birth in the midst of all the anxiety over DD1.

Hope you have a lovely day xx

millingtonsmummy · 16/04/2010 14:23

Madigan so sorry to hear DD1 is poorly, hope she's feeling better this afternoon. I take it the hospital didn't find a reason for her temp being sky high? And what a shame it's happened when you had plans to have time for yourself. Not easy to find the time I know!

My due date is 5th May. Just under 3 weeks to go, or thereabouts!

first1 · 16/04/2010 14:46

Hi all,

Just a quick post I'm afraid. Waiting for an emergency plumber, the bloody bathroom has flooded. We've only lived here 2 months! Had consultant appointment this morning, very uneventful. Roll on 17th May, roll on!!

Madigan · 16/04/2010 19:24

Hello Millingtonsmommy - yes, DD1 much better now thank you; now the only battle is getting her to take her antibiotics - she basically refuses to take it and clamps her mouth shut so that is not much fun. But she is much perkier and happier. Hospital diagnosed ear/throat infection. The most worrying thing was that her breathing was very rapid and her heartbeat was massively high (175 per minute) ...........

how are you feeling?

I am so busy at the moment that I honestly forget about being pregnant - then a good kick in the ribs reminds me! I will have to slow down soon ..........

Hello First1 - hope you get that bathroom sorted ....... what a pain! How did it flood?

xx

thegauntlet · 16/04/2010 19:28

hi.
new on here. i am due 31st may with first daughter. I was wondering if there is anyway to do an online chat on this site; or is it all just posting?

love fran

morethemerrier · 16/04/2010 19:33

Hi All!

Well, had my homebirth assesment yesterday and mentioned that I thought baby had flipped as the kicks had moved and I could feel a hard, round shape under my ribs!

She had a feel and agreed that she thinks baby may have moved and is now breech!

So, off for a scan first thing monday, followed by the option to have baby turned, and if that fails a c-section at 39 weeks!

Really hoping its just a boney bum!

Soory to hear about your DD,Madigan best laid plans eh! Hope she is a lot better today!

I went 9 days over with DS2, but strangely DS1 was bang on time!

Millingtonsmummy, think you are the next inline, as it were re due dates!

Think in light of yesterday, I need to pack a bag this weekend! My SIL had the 'turning' baby proceedure and had to take a bag in case they have to do an emergency c-sec?!?

Have you had any pre-labour signs yet?

Madigan, I hope your DH is home for the weekend to give you a rest! You have had enough drama this week!

Have a nice weekend, lets hope the sun keeps on shining!

morethemerrier · 16/04/2010 19:43

Madigan, have you tried mixing the medicine in something? DS2 was a nightmare to get medicine in, very stressful, he would often end up being sick, which kind of defeated the object!

Our Doc told us it was ok to mix into juice, icecream or yoghurt which made it easier, although he is wary of the above these days!

x

morethemerrier · 16/04/2010 19:49

Hi fran, it's all posts but they do move fairly quickly!

Congrats on your pink bump! Is it your first baby or your first girl?

I have two boys and am 36 weeks today with a surprise bump!

How are you feeling?

PanicMode · 16/04/2010 21:30

Hi everyone,
Have been offline for a week as down in the West Country with my parents who have been fantastic and taken the three of them off my hands so I can rest.

Can't believe I'm 38 weeks today - hoping that I don't go into labour before my mother arrives two days before I'm due (there's a full moon) but I've been so punctual with the other three (due date, due date minus one, due date plus one)...and the last one was SO fast am hoping for a repeat performance....

KateM77 - great to see you back online - glad the move went well and the NCT classes have started - I still keep in touch with my first group 6 years later!

Great to see the new faces here too - here's to the safe arrivals of all the bumps over the next few weeks - eek!

KateM77 · 17/04/2010 19:16

This baby doesn't seem to want to be born in May after all!

My waters broke yesterday evening, but so far no contractions. Went into hospital this morning to get checked and all OK, so sent home again. They say labour should start naturally within 36 hours, so if nothing by tomorrow morning I have to go back for another check and then they want to put me on a drip and induce.

DH has been reading up all sorts of research on pre-labour rupture of membranes (PROM) which suggests if all still OK with me and baby, then can wait for up to 96 hours for labour to start naturally, so we're getting prepared for a bit of a fight against being induced.

Fingers crossed labour will start tonight, although it's all happening a bit sooner than planned or wanted - we've been manically painting the nursery today to get it finished, it's been a good distraction

Will keep you posted as to what happens

KateM77 · 17/04/2010 19:22

I should probably have said, I'm 37 weeks today, due date 8th May, so just squeaked in to being considered term!

morethemerrier · 17/04/2010 19:51

Ohhh Kate, how exciting!

Hope everything kicks off tonight!

Good luck!

(I'm sat in my birthing pool that I may not get to use as baby may be breech!)

PanicMode · 17/04/2010 21:32

Wow Kate - can't believe your seriously large piece of queue jumping - how rude!!

Best of luck - keep us posted!!!!

Madigan · 17/04/2010 22:06

Good luck Kate!!! Hope all goes well!

How is everyone else today? Such a lovely sunny day here, which put me in a v good mood. Have eaten far too much tho' so reckon a night of heartburn beckons... my own silly fault though!

Just watched "the Duchess" on DVD - too too sad for words.

first1 · 18/04/2010 08:27

Good luck Kate! First baby, 3 weeks early...tell me your secrets I'm soo done with being pregnant!! xxx

first1 · 18/04/2010 08:32

Madigan, I've seen that it's really sad. Hope you weren't in heartburn hell during the night. I take ranitidine which really seems to help. Are you taking anything stronger than gaviscon?

I had a fairly eventful night. Rang out of hours doc at 9.30pm as I'd had 2days of pain in the back of my thigh and by this point I had the DVT alarm bells ringing in my head. They told me to make my way over to the night clinic but to hurry as would be closed by 10. Err not going to happen, too far away. So bless DH, he drove over an hour away to one that stayed open all night. Saw a doctor, examined me (with my trackies still on ) said it was purely muscular, so felt like a total fool, but glad I got it checked. Treated DH to a midnight drive through maccies!

PanicMode · 18/04/2010 09:04

Morning everyone

Am trying to decide whether I am in labour or whether I am just having very strong BH - DH is currently competing in a triathlon so I hope that things die down over the next couple of hours before he gets back, but I have put my relief childcare plans on standby just in case....

Was very uncomfortable overnight, (TMI warning - had a big clearout!) and some of the pains took my breath away, but as they are less painful now, I think that probably just strong BH (you wouldn't think this was my 4th would you!!), but I have never had BH like it before, just gone straight into full blown labour....

first1 - glad to hear your pain not serious - this stage is so boring with all of the niggles and pains isnt' it - roll on the arrivals!

morethemerrier · 18/04/2010 13:49

Hi All!

First1, def always better to get checked! Glad it was nothing serious, loving the sound of a midnight maccies!

Panicmode, how are you getting on now? When are you due?

I spent last night wallowing around in my birth pool! As I may not get to actually give birth in it now! Was nice and relaxing!

Have a nice day, wonder if Kate is 'on her way' yet?

KateM77 · 18/04/2010 17:01

You might beat me to it yet then PanicMode I'm still at home waiting!

Nothing happened overnight, so went to hospital this morning. They wanted to induce at 10am. We asked to be checked over first and then decide. All absolutely fine with me and baby - they did obs on me, and put me on a monitor for half an hour - so they've given me another 36 hours to see if things start naturally. Really pleased about that, but still nothing so far...come on baby, only another 24 hours to go!

Another thing on the plus side is it's given us time to finish the nursery

Midwife suggested nipple stimulationto try and bring on labour, so I'm in for a pleasant evening ahead
