Hi Madigan, sorry to hear about your night,I hope your little one is feeling better soon!
What a lovely treat though, I am sure you will get spoilt rotten, and well deserved in my opinion!
Whenever I get chance to have a lie in, I am always wide awake at the crack of dawn! Typical!
Both my births have been fairly straight forward, I have been lucky, the last one was just three hours so that along with the fact that the maternity unit where I had both my boys has recently been closed, prompted me to opt for a homebirth!
I seem to tollerate labour to an extent that during both my previous labours (the first 11 hours)I was repeatedly told 'nothing much was happening', as I was 'far to comfortable' to be in established labour!
I gave birth within an hour and a half of those 'observations' both times!
The last time, I was left in a massive cold room (think it was an empty observation ward)without any pain relief as the midwife was not expecting me to progress and was planning to send me home! Good job I stood my ground or DS2 would have been born in the car park! When he moved down I made an indescribable noise that she realised things were happening!
I think its because I tend to labour in my back, so when they put their hands on my tummy and declare, that wasn't a strong one, they just assume I am a mardie bum and can't cope with early labour! My latent phase seems to be the hardest part then I whizz through the transition! I went from 6-10cms when my waters broke and two pushes later he was out, no time for a second midwife, and I had only been moved into the delivery room about 30mins before!
So in the end it was all a bit rushed, and this time just hoping for a more relaxed time! There was no discussion about birth plan, synto injection, etc there just wasn't time in the end! And I did get a bit upset when she wouldn't listen to me that I knew he was coming!
I had to get DH to ask her to look when I felt my waters break as I needed to push and was having a massive contraction, but it was only afetr he strongly 'insisted' she agreed as her first reply was they are only allowed to examine every four hours!
Don't get me wrong, I know you can't predict these things, but I do feel that sometimes mum's are not dealt with as individuals during labour, funny as we are told that every pregnancy/birth is different and yet we are all expected to follow a set time scale for birth!!!
Ohhh, where did all that come from? Oh yeah, so in a nutshell (?) homebirth feels like the best option, and I think I will feel more settled knowing that I am there for the duration, there is nothing worse than knowing you may give birth in a car if they dont believe you are in labour!
Have a lovley mini break, have you considered Spatone to build your iron stores up? Its natural so doesnt bung you up and it really made a difference for me last time!
