Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

Morning

jw I just love those feature wall wallpapers, that one looks lovely Good luck with the expedition today

JJ Yes, I was wondering the exact same thing, what was he in before Corrie last night?

He he jw DH just came in to pick up some mail and had a little look over my shoulder and saw the price of your wallpaper and had much the same reaction as your DH with a couple of swear words thrown in for good measure..... they haven't got a clue have they

Hope you're all having a good start to the weekend, lovely weather here so will hopefully be off out soon, somewhere anywhere in the great outdoors

hedgepig · 21/02/2009 10:11

woppee I'm feeling human today DH looked after Ollie last night and I slept in the spare bed. Still woke at 1:30 and 4:30 but just turned over and went back to sleep .

MrsB will they catch up your pay or are you working for free this week????

Hello neewbies pull up a chair and grab some cake (GD allowing). JessynJ it is so tricky when your biological clock is ticking away I was very when it took me a year to conceive Olie at 41 and was getting very paranoid but it all worked out in the end, so all we need to find you is a chap

Th guardian mushroom lasange, I did make it Bonzo & Ermintrude but I found it way too rich will all 5 types of cheese I think it has potential but I'm going to try it again with less cheese and maybe some spinach.

Bonzo your birth what a challenge. Are you thinking about a cs for this one or trying for a VBAC? I have a couple of VBAC books if you want them, let me know.

jeanjeannie · 21/02/2009 10:18

Morning all.
tee I'm also off to get a haircut - yay! A whole hour sans the girls!

pintofstella I'll join you in feeling semi-human - only woke once last night!

jw have fun out and about car-seat buying. We've got the Maxi-cosi - very happy with it.
UGH - I see Yate's (wine lodges in the good olde days!) are still the same then!! LOVING the wallpaper....Sanderson too - quality gear! I want some but DP points out Iris will want to draw on it - fair point - she's scribbled all over the other walls !

mum41 yep, mrsB was right - he was in Queer as Folk. Now is it you who's quite partial to Tony Gordon? Mmmmm, he does a wonderful evil glare....I would! Oh - I'd not realised the storyline was edging towards Eileen and Julie being sisters.....really must pay more attention.

hedgepig sorry the lasagne wasn't tip top - I'm a BIG fan of lasagne...it's the one thing my crew will ALL eat!

Righty ho - off to be beautified x

JW you have probably gone but we had the britax 1st class for Ben which does rear and forward facing and it was good although we never used it rear facing. We had to get it for the alternative routing system because at seat belts in our old astra buckle crunched everything else.

JJ & tee happy haircuts we want to see pictures later

mrsboogie · 21/02/2009 11:19

morning all

We had a lie in! Mr D kindly conceded that perhaps we ought to be allowed a little sleep so for the first time ever he went back to sleep until 9.45am. Feel almost human.

Photos please of haircuts later!

I had worked out that Julie and Eileen were gong to be sisters - think it will be quite a good storyline.

I'm only getting paid for half the month hedgepig not week its my own fault

Very nice wallpaper jw we have a similar arrangement with wallpaper on one wall - although ours cost half what that one does -I would not have got away with £34 a roll.

hedgepig · 21/02/2009 11:27

boo they are not going to back date it!

johnworf · 21/02/2009 11:54

hedgepig just ordered the Britax 1st class Si. Didn't have the special offer on in store, just online. Extra £40 in store so came home and ordered. However, made sure it fit in the car first and it did. Super duper rearwards facing too and K looked very snug in it. Yeah, we've had buckle crunching problems in our doblo with other seats I've tried which is why I needed to go to the store. Also got another £15 off with vouchers I found online so all in all, saved about £50 to the one we tried this morning

Anyway, turning to more important matters of how now to look like a t**t parent when trying to be cool.............ok, when I was at DD#1's meal I was saying to them all 'yes, yes, of course I know about music these days. I mean, [snort] who doesn't?! So naturally I had to impress them with my popular music knowledge and I said 'oh yeah, well I love Jay-z. I mean who doesn't these days?' All going smooth you might think.....then DS#1, already laughing, says 'you don't know anything about Jay-z. I bet you don't even know any of his songs'. 'Ah, well thats' where you're wrong because on my pc at home I have one of his songs on mp3'. 'Oh, which one?' asks DS#1. 'It's 53 reasons and the bitch aint one' I reply. Puff out my chest proudly and wait for the awe in their faces that their mother is indeed, one cool dude. Hysterical laughter ensued as DS#2, in a Noel Coward voice (better than DH's margot leadbetter one) says 'hahahahahaha it's 99 problems and the bitch aint one, mother'. OOOOOH the shame. I had to put the tablecloth over my head while my face turned through the full spectrum of red.

I now hold my hands up, wave my white flag and proclaim 'I'm Johnworf. I'm old and I officially know nothing about popular culture'.

Tee2072 · 21/02/2009 12:01

I'm back. I'll try to get a picture of my hair!

Looked at buggy's and think I found the one I want. I can't remember what its called, the catalogue is in my handbag across the room and I'm being lazy! But it fits the Maxi Cosi car seat and I can get a carry cot and seat with it. For £508. Luckily my mum is paying for it, but I need to check with her before I buy it. We may have to split the cost. I really like it and it comes in Black!!

Didn't buy a kettle. We forgot!

I meant to say JW I really like that wall paper. Although I'm with your DH on the price, YIKES! But I haven't decorated my own place in ages, since I've lived in flats since I moved to UK. I'm sure I could get over the sticker shock if I could afford my own house!!

Oh, and I've never even heard of Jay-z. So I'm even uncooler than you, JW. In fact my hairdressers was playing 80s music today and I was loving it!

In other news, I just got a notification that I have an appointment for a fetal monitoring scan on 6th March. Anyone know what it is they are looking for or anything about it?

Wow, that was a novel! Sorry!

mrsboogie · 21/02/2009 12:02

well, even with that half arsed attempt you still know more then me jw cos I wouldn't even have been able to hazard that much of a song title!!

well done on the car seat jw hope Miss K enjoyed her trip into the outside world.

hedgepig it will all be sorted out next month but in the meantime that doesn't help me with paying the mortgage and servicing my cc bills. Am due a deeply patronising phone call on Monday from the HR service centre to see whether they can advance me some of the shortfall.

MUM41plus5 · 21/02/2009 12:03

jj yes, that would be me and the deliciously dark Mr Gordon
I never watched queer as folk so wouldn't know him from that, must be something else?

mrsb Not good on the pay side of things! Will they backdate any earnings onto next months pay?
Brilliant on the sleep side of things with D though it's the busy week caught up with him

Tee2072 · 21/02/2009 12:03

Okay, that should say fetal HEART monitoring scan. I forgot a key word there!

Tee2072 · 21/02/2009 12:04

Geez...foetal heart monitor scan. I think I need a nap.

MUM41plus5 · 21/02/2009 12:13

jw that last post should read... I now hold my hands up, wave my white flag and proclaim I'm Johnworf. I'm old and I officially know nothing about popular culture... and that makes me so glad not to have to keep up with the latest trend, I can at last in my life just be me

btw sorry about double post not sure what I've done now

Triggles · 21/02/2009 12:13

Ok, I'm obviously not paying close enough attention to Corrie, as I didn't work out at ALL that Eileen and Julie might be sisters!!! I'll have to tell hubby, as we watch it together.

Went to visit FIL this morning, no change really. But MIL is beginning to accept it, thankfully. I think that will make it much easier for her to bear in the long run.

Lazing about for the day now, as I'm worn out.

MUM41plus5 · 21/02/2009 12:17

Oh that was another thing... me neither triggles even worse... which one is Julie?
It's that Mr Gordon takes my concentration off somewhere far away from Corrie sometimes

mrsboogie · 21/02/2009 12:26

Julie is the fairly new character - blond, bubbly type who lives with Kirk and Fizz and works in the factory. Apparently her mum is an old school friend of Eileen's who mysteriously disappeared when at school because she became pregnant. It's a short leap from there to figuring out that Eileen's lothario dad was the culprit.

johnworf · 21/02/2009 12:28

They're sisters? How did that come out? How come they didn't know - or did they? Julie is the dope that goes out with the even dopier Kirk.

Not sure what the heart monitoring test is tee. Never had one of those unless it was called something else. How many weeks are you tee? You get the anomaly scan at 20-22 weeks so is it this one?

Tee2072 · 21/02/2009 12:40

JW nope, had that one, this is another one! This is specifically for the baby's heart.

I'll be 24 weeks when it happens, BTW.

fartmeistergeneral · 21/02/2009 12:41

Sigh. Am now 40. Feel about 20 (but at times feel about 60!!)

BonzoDoodah · 21/02/2009 13:03

ermintrude - you're right - no-one said veggi food has to be healthy do they? It IS gorgeous probably because of all that cheese and cream ... divine! Friend gives up chocolate, sweets, crisps and meat for Lent and by the end of it she's usually still not eating one of those things and the intention is there. So a chocolate/marshmallow/strawberry pig-fest is ordered [slurp]

MrsB if they're only paying you stat maternity pay then you can't be in work .... They can't legally have it both ways ... either they've decided you CAN come back to work and MUST pay you - or they want you to wait 8 weeks - in which case you don't work for them. The Government pays you the SMP not the company so they can't have you working while the Gov pays. I'd have a serious talk with the bosses/HR. I'd say they've accepted you coming back by letting you work for a week.

mum51 it was your mention of the minge thread that made me look. To post a link you put it in double square brackets and a space after the link if you want to call it something like "look here" (See under the smileys next to the message box).

MUM41plus5 · 21/02/2009 13:25

Thanks bonzo will note for next time oh btw thanks for putting 10 years on me

BonzoDoodah · 21/02/2009 13:26

Welcome new people ..

Mum41 phew about the mango - well dealt with!!!

jw wallpaper looks lovely!

Hedgepig - yes going to try for a VBAC - though scared and determined in equal measures. My CS scar looks like something Dr Frankenstein would balk at and I keep thinking it's going to burst open when I get huge. And what if this sprog has a fat a head as M? Will I have to change my name to TenaLady and walk like John Wayne for the rest of my natural. But then ... maybe it will be easier as I've done the contraction thing before? Hard! Your books sounds interesting ....

And again MrsB surely they MUST pay you. The inland revenue would have something to say about it!

I'm just about recovering today - M was awake at quarter to 1 puking all over the cot. And then again at 1:30. ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz two changes and a worried night but she slept until 8:45!!! Hurrah!!! A lie-in after two weeks of waking between 6 and 7. Almost feel human now.

BonzoDoodah · 21/02/2009 13:27

Mum31 oops sorry! (I can't let this go - surely if you've worked the week with their consent they MUST pay you??? )

mrsboogie · 21/02/2009 15:12

that's the problem bonzo I didn't come back to work with their consent!. When I gave notice of going on mat leave I said I would be off from August to February. They wrote back a confirmation letter with lots of stuff in it about my maternity period being from Aug '08 to Aug '09 and stuff about entitlements to Stat Mat pay and unpaid leave. Somewhere in there it also said I had to give them 8 weeks notice of my intention to come back to work but I thought I had already done that when I said I would be back in feb.

Anyway I found out purely by accident yesterday that they had me down as still being on maternity leave and when I rang them to correct this they told me about the 8 weeks and said that I had gone form full pay to statutory mat pay the day my six months was up. Basically they decided that as I was entitled to a year off I would be taking a year off and by coming back after six months I was coming back early.

The problem is that the payroll is set in the middle of the month and they claim it is impossible at this stage to change it so I won't get half of this month's pay until the end of next month.

Its my own fault obviously but they gave me and my boss (who's responsibility it also was) a hard time on the phone yesterday when we were trying to sort it out.
