Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

Diabetes-is that very common in pregnancy ?
I had suspected pre-eclampsia with number 1 but I think it was because I was sooo fat.
I lost nearly 6 stone afterwards (luckily I was young and my skin went back- It wouldn't now!)
psjohnworf yes I must confess I like David Mitchell as well- still not Hugh Jackman though. Shivers.

Tee2072 · 20/02/2009 18:30

neddie I don't know if its very common, but Gestational Diabetes is not uncommon in pregnancy.

Ferncottage · 20/02/2009 18:39

Do I qualify to join in? am 43 and have daughters aged 6 and 2

johnworf · 20/02/2009 18:39

haha neddie We'll fight for him

I tried the diet route but when your blood sugars are doing 15 on an early morning fast, then you need insulin.

I never had GD in my previous 3 pregnancies neddie but I did have pre-eclampsia in 2/3 of them Induced early but only by a couple of weeks.

Not sure if GD is common but there was a full clinic when I was pregnant

Anyone got this weeks OK!? 8 pages devoted to Jack Tweed interview. Cashing in or what?

mrsb meant to say before really sorry to hear that D is out of his routine and kept you up all night. Are you going to have a chat with his grandpa?

Has JJ emigrated and not told us?

JessynJ · 20/02/2009 18:41

Hi, just after some advice!! I'm 39(so nearly 40!!) with a nearly 4 year old, not in a relationship n a bit 2 busy for one in the next year. I'd really like more children but am beginning to think it's all too late.
Aside from the not knowing what the future may bring, wanting to be in a relationship and both of us wanting children...how have you found having children late? I'm getting really sad about it recently.

MUM41plus5 · 20/02/2009 18:54

Oh, did mention that thread but don't know how to do that thing you do so everyone can click on and see? sorry!

Just had a bit of a hairy moment at tea today, the boys were happily sucking on a mango finger when the big fella bit a big chunk off (no teeth yet so must have strong gums ) had to turn him upside down and pat his back, after a few attempts it dislodged, thank god,I was shaking for about 10 minutes after, poor DH was a bit lost, the boys are his first you see, the girls are from a previous marraige so guess I've had a little more practise although its something I never want to have to get used to!!

Never suffered with diabetes while I was pregnant, I think the worse thing I had was lack of iron from about 4 months so can't help there.

mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 19:08

hello all

Back from work - friday! yay!

jw yep we did say something - OH's mum asked how D had slept and I said - he didn't, at all - and OH added that he needed to stick to the routine and they got the message. I sent half the night crunched up on one side of the bed with D in the middle and I think I did something bad to the shoulder joint cos I can't lift my arm all day. 'tis agony.

Still, mustn't grumble.

no jj? perhaps she's still fighting the fire in the back yard?

neddie sorry to hear about the GD - I know its a bummer when you first find out but you will see its not that bad. I know its easy for me to say as I only got it towards the end but don't google and don't worry! In fact you will get lots of extra monitoring and such which I found quite a comfort.
yikes jw 15 fasting? blimey.

welcome fercottage just muck in!

oh haha ermintrude yes it does look like I can't remember how old my son is - someone else wrote that and I kept thnking how do I correct it but never got round to it.

Forgetting things and not getting round to things is my forte as I found out today that I should have given work 8 weeks notice of my intention to return from mat leave. I didn't and my boss being useless didn't either. So, it looks like I may not be getting paid much at the end of next week as they decided that I was to go onto statutory mat pay. I am a very silly moo. and soon I will be a very poor moo.

MUM41plus5 · 20/02/2009 19:15

Oh dear mrsb must be all that lack of sleep, I am a firm believer in baby brain though and I also believe it hangs around for months after the birth

mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 19:31

well, that's my excuse now and I'm sticking to it mum41

Tee2072 · 20/02/2009 19:57

JessynJ you'll not find one mum under 40 (well, not since I had my birthday 2 weeks ago!) on this thread. And I think you'll find that we've all enjoyed becoming/being mums later in life. Its not over for you, you can still do it!

Welcome fercottage! mrsb oh no about pay! What a pain for you. Glad inlaws listened to you about D's routine.

jeanjeannie · 20/02/2009 20:41

I'm HERE! Am I too late? Have I missed it all??!!

First time I've picked up the laptop - all day In a (long) sentence : Bad night's sleep, followed by nursery run, followed by going straight into town with Verity - with her lunch, back to nursery - picked up Iris then onto soft play place, back home (both girls wailing) dinner, bath, more screams - tired, zonked - me have shower...and here I am!

Welcome to all our newcomers...ferncottage Yes, yes you more than qualify
pintofstella hiya, not long now eh! And yep - top name palmetto hello and pop by whenever you get chance to break away from the world of work
jessynj Well, they say it's never over till the fat lady sings - and she's not turned up on this thread warbling any tune I LOVE being an older mum - but then again I'm not much different to as I was 10 years ago - although I've probably got more energy now

Hi to the rest of you- so many posts my eyes are on stalks. Reckon I'll just about make Corrie then bed...ZZZzzzzz

PS> for those of you with the old GD - cyber cake is all the rage

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 20:44

hi JessynJ I don't think I have ever heard anyone on this thread express the slightest regret or complaint about being an older mum - I think we all love it. I certainly do! I have a six month old and am no more tired than I would be if I was ten or twenty years younger and had been kept awake all night like I was last night...

If you are worried about whether it will be physically possible you could have some tests done to see how the land (or ovaries) lies! Apparently a good indicator of how long you are likely to be fertile is the age at which your mum/grandmother etc started the menopause. There are several ladies on here with a good few years on you so its not necessarily too late for you - although a man might come in handy at some point!

mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 20:49

ohmygod what is Liz wearing on Corrie?

johnworf · 20/02/2009 21:06

I dunno mrsb. I missed her. Looking at wallpaper. Was it a tits and thighs outfit?

jeanjeannie · 20/02/2009 21:10

What was that new bloke in? Wracking my little brain????

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 21:12

err no jw it was a black lacey top with what looked like a too large black and white halter/biini top over it. It is the single most oddest thing I have ever seen her wear - and that's goin' some!

just been reading the drying the minge in the communal changing room thread - hilarious.

mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 21:13

queer as folk jj

mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 21:14

I meant bikini top

jeanjeannie · 20/02/2009 21:21

That's it - t'was driving me mad. Do you not dry your minge mrsB?

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 20/02/2009 21:33

hmmm...well when in public I am an advocate of the rough see sawing motion - I'm not a fan of the smell of burning fanjo jj

ermintrude13 · 20/02/2009 21:56

I loved that thread! It was the fact that the woman (built like a sumo according to the OP) was squatting over the health club hairdryer that made the picture perfect. And someone came straight in with - well, it would have been just as bad if she were a gorgeous size 8. I told DH and he seemed to disagree with that, even suggesting that the sight of a slim and lovely young thing drying her parts might be quite erm appealing.

Welcome to newbies!

Kaz1967 · 21/02/2009 00:10

JessynJ don't regret being 41 with a small baby, wish it has happened earlier only because I love it so much, Kez is the best thing that ever happened to me. It one hospital I was made to feel guilty about being an older mum and being over weight you would think it was a crime I proved them wrong though I had a none of the problems they told me I would get (gestational diabetis and high blood pressure...)and I had my normal delivery with no problems faired better than many younger mums too talking to friends with babies about the same age here

One advantage for me as an older Mum is I am a lot calmer and have more patience.

pintofstella · 21/02/2009 07:38

Morning girls!

I slept from 8pm last night to 6.30am this morning so am feeling semi-human for a change. DS slept with me and is still snoring his head off.

How is everyone else?

johnworf · 21/02/2009 08:22

Morning pintofstella. We're up and about and ready for our expedition to Mothercare for a new car seat. Outings are a relative new phenomenon for us as we've been hibernating since September So, armed with just a couple of changing bags, we're off in a few minutes.

Just glimpsed over the drying your minge comments. Not sure if I'm still half asleep but seems very odd to me. However, DD#1's b/f told me that he went to pick her up from work the other day in the centre of Bury and there was a man outside Yate's, squatting on the floor and quite clearly having a poo on the pavement I told him that would have made me want to be sick and in typical male style, he said he wished he'd had his camera so that he could have sent it to You've been framed. I'm not sure that Harry Hill would have aired that one though, tea-time viewing and all

Mr Plasterer came around last night to look at our walls and he starts his work next Friday. Means the house will be a tip for a couple of weeks (again). Decorator comes in the following Monday. Spent couple of hours looking at wallpaper last night with DH shouting "£34 for a roll of wallpaper! We can surely pick up some for £4.99". Obviously I agreed to his wishes. No dear reader, I didn't Anyway, I've lost the battle to have the tv put on the wall but I think I've won the small war over the wallpaper. And here it is in case you fancy a look. Btw, it's only for 1 wall, the rest will be thick lining paper in some neutral colour like buttermilk or cream (colour, not dairy produce)

Tee2072 · 21/02/2009 08:33

Morning all.

Off to get my haircut in a bit and then do some shopping. And probably buggy trying.

But most important of all...a new kettle! Ours keeps sort of burbling, and not in a good way!! DH is panicking it will stop working and then where will we be?

Have a nice Saturday all!
