Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

Nice to see you over here JW. If you can't remember your DD's age no wonder you were on the other thread . Mind you, having a 23 year old as well as a 9 month old would give me a severe and permanent case of nappy brain!

ladymac it is hard to decide what's best, isn't it? My labour with DS will have been nearly 7 yrs before this one but it was less than 5 hrs total, built up gradually so I only called DH to drive up from work in Southampton (we were in S London then) 3 hrs before birth, he called MWs 1.5 hrs before birth, TENS machine worked a treat and second stage was 2 mins. So I'd be truly worried about a roadside delivery unless I went into hosp the moment I got the 1st contraction, and I really hate hospitals. How does the threat of haemorrhage go up with more births? I mean, is it just a general concern of specific to you?

LOL @ the ideas to spend the £190 JJ. THE place to eat in Nottingham is Sat Bains which we've been to once and was tremendous but it was for both our bd and Christmas presents that year, as it came to nearly £200 . We're in the Westfield (a health insurance scheme that's also a charity so they don't make a profit and pay you modest amounts to cover dental, optical, consultations, even stuff like chiropractic and chiropody - I really recommend them and have no vested interests I swear!) and DH and I will each get £195 when the baby's born so putting it all together will just about cover a flatscreen TV for the playroom. Surely as valuable as good food?

mrsboogie · 19/02/2009 14:25

quick question ladies - we were just talking about the child trust fund here and I remembered that you get whatever it is you need to apply for it when the Child Benefit comes through. Which reminded me that it has been almost six months since I applied for said CB - do we know how long it takes nowadays? I'm sure it only took a couple of weeks when my older son was born. Six months seems a bit excessive to put a few details into a database and set up a bacs payment.

These bloody civil servants eh? tsk tsk.

jeanjeannie · 19/02/2009 14:27

Should be through now mrsB we've had ours from about 6 weeks after Verity was born. Give 'em a ring. Blo*dy Civil servants eh....all on blinkin MN

OP posts:
johnworf · 19/02/2009 14:34

We got ours after a month mrsb. I'd say your claim has gone astray. Civil servants huh?

Neddie · 19/02/2009 14:53

ladymac well done -I know it's uncomfortable but at least you know it's heading in the right direction. I remember walking like a sumo wrestler when my last one engaged. I am really hungry today and have eaten a whole bowl of seafood chowder with chinese noodles and 2 rounds of toast with melted manchego cheese on top (I love manchego-1/2 Spanish you see). What a piglet...no creme eggs though they're a bit pukey.Walnut whips however.
That benefit sounds good- I wonder whether I'll get it? Does sushi count as good food?
ps. johnworf what about Bruce Parry- he could carry me off into the jungle anytime.

ermintrude13 · 19/02/2009 14:59

now Neddie, how can you diss creme eggs whilst praising walnut whips? Surely they're very nearly identical, with the whip being a sort of lighter, diet version almost, of the egg?

johnworf · 19/02/2009 15:00

Nah...Bruce Parry just isn't my bag I'm afraid. He's a bit like Ben Fogle. A bit too foppish for me even though doing macho things. Gimme Paxo anyday. I want a man not a boy

Tabitha8 · 19/02/2009 15:03

How many creme eggs will £190 buy? I can't wait to get started.

ermintrude13 · 19/02/2009 15:04

Tabitha, I'm going to do that sum right now! You can maybe have a few after your facial and manicure during labour. Count me in

Tabitha8 · 19/02/2009 15:08

Yum, yum. Creme eggs whilst in labour. What luxury! Good job dental treatment is free.

MsBrandybuck · 19/02/2009 15:17

Mind if I join you?

I'm 42 and have DS born July 2006 (same month I was 40 ). I am now hopefully expecting DC2 in September. Both surprise conceptions after long history of sub-fertility, in fact I thought this one was the menopause so still a little bit shocked to be dealing with bad morning sickness.

Neddie · 19/02/2009 15:19

Foppish He was in the SAS!!!
Noooo . Creme eggs are totally different to walnut whips- they are all gloopy and not at all fluffy or mallowy.
My other thread (multi birth) are all knee deep in sickly children so I made them a poem to cheer them up. I will share it with you.
ps. I'm not Pam Ayres (I'd tell her off for her accent )

Vomit here and vomit there
there's bl*"@ng vomit everywhere
In the bedroom, in the loo
It's either sick or squidgy poo

oh the life to be a mother,
(I wish there was another)
one that cleans, cooks and wipes the noses
and restores the smell of roses

Alas i have no help at all
DP's in Germany having a ball
but Ha! I cry "wait till he gets home"
the list to do's become a tome

Unblock the sink
and clean the drain
being a parent can be a pain!
If you think that it's a bore
wait till September, there'll be two more.

jeanjeannie · 19/02/2009 15:22

All this talk of sugar-based products...tut, tutt - won't do at all!

Anyway- to buck the trend - I've been on the stepper twice today - two lots of 20mins [virtuous, smug emoticon with halo] AND I'm sporting a pair of size 12 Gap cords - pre baby days OK they were when i got preggie with Iris - so not completely pre-bump!! Am so pleased....but have nothing nice and tasty to celebrate with. Oh no -my life is meaningless and empty without cake!

OOooo, I'll take Bruce Parry off your hands jw Waste not, want not and all that
Actually I'd have thought comedian/actor Alexander armstrong would have been to your taste....he's my man of the moment - *swoon

Hi MsBrandybuck I think I am on your thread for September births- though I think I may have had them by August!

ermintrude13 · 19/02/2009 15:31

Welcome MsBrandybuck, you've come to just the right place. Congratulations on the pregnancy, and on your age which is exactly the same as mine . There's a list at the beginning of the thread which tells you mostly who's who - a good mix of preganant and popped 40+s amongst us. I'm still getting MS at 23 wks so have every sympathy and hope yours goes soon.

Neddie You've clearly missed your calling. Leave the horses and get a publishing contract now Do you speak Spanish? Will your DC be trilingual?!

JJ well done on all the exercise [suppressed irritation at other peoples' ability to get off their bums and so something emoticon] and getting into the cords.

Erm - Bruce who?

MsBrandybuck · 19/02/2009 15:33

Hi Neddie

johnworf · 19/02/2009 15:37

A Armstrong is v nice Fight you for him jj. I'm also having a Lee Mack phase which is unusual as he's a)northern b)northern. Not my usual fare indeed. I might be over it by tomorrow.

Congrats on the size 12's!

Neddie · 19/02/2009 15:45

Bruce Parry- goes into the Amazon or to lost tribes etc and lives like the natives. He's well fit! If I didn't have a life in the real world I would love to go and do that sort of thing.
ermintrude thank you. I just couldn't stop laughing at their tales of constantly puking and squitty children (mine included). It just seems so weird that we actually enjoy having children. Still I enjoy breeding horses and I have had far more traumas with my equine children than my 2 legged ones and I have a teenage girl

jeanjeannie · 19/02/2009 15:46

brandybuck HELLO! and congrats and welcome to the home of the 40 sometings tea party!

Gosh - how fab - number 2 on the way. I was 41 when DD1 arrived and like you - was a surprise and I was having tests for the early menopause! DD2 arrived as a result of careless partying for my 42 birthday! Lovely to have you about.

tabitha I'm so looking forward to your 'birth
secial pics' in HELLO magazine.....I reckon you'll get the whole lot sponsored...hair, nails, walnut whips
neddie that's FAB! I rely on DP so much - I don't know how you do it!

OP posts:
Neddie · 19/02/2009 15:49

Ps Yes I speak Spanish (and rubbish)my DP speaks English, German and Russian. I am very keen to teach my youngest languages she is 6 and can count in Spanish and French say hello etc she just surprised me this morning by saying some German. Wiping her bottom is proving more difficult though

Eulalia · 19/02/2009 15:51

Hi again, can I ask who here has had amniocentesis? Decided to go ahead and am booked in next Tuesday and feeling quite nervous.

Am upset about my mother too, finally told her last week and she's being a right cow. She asked if I was still early enough to terminate and said if I was her she'd would just terminate the baby! . I didn't listen to her but she started going on about it again today on the phone about what I would do when I get the results of the test in. It's like she is itching to get rid of this baby. Sorry I just wanted to get that off my chest!

ermintrude13 · 19/02/2009 15:56

Oh, I know who you mean. I'm not sure how bright he is and I'd prefer someone extremely clever if it's going to be more than a night or two

JW Lee Mack? Hmmm. Not a bad looking lad, and a nice smile, but in terms of stand-up he's not Frankie Boyle, is he?

I'm looking forward to rekindling my crush on Welsh Chris from DoodleDoo - CBeebies here I come!

Neddie it would be fab if your DD and these new babes were multi-lingual. Gives them so many more options, and there's nothing more cute and impressive than a 3 yr old English child talking another language. Wish my French was up to passing on, but my DC would be laughed out of Paris.

Maybe if you talked to DD about wiping her bottom in other languages the message would hit home?

MsBrandybuck · 19/02/2009 16:04

ermintrude Doodledoo just happens to be my DS's favourite programme too

MUM41plus5 · 19/02/2009 16:23

OMG logged on nearly an hour ago, only just caught up, brain just scrambled with the many many posts had a day off today, DD3 with my mother for the day and DTs with MIL (who is lovely, I'm so lucky) so after a clothes shopping trip I thought I would see how all you ladies are but after trying to take in all the posts I thought I would be best to tag on from here rather than get all muddled on previous posts.... a couple of posts did jump out at me though.....

jw I hear K has to have an op, forgive me for sounding medically challenged but I don't quite understand why, I do understand though if its something you wouldn't want to share, my twins both had an umbilical hernia and may have needed an op, a small thing really but the thought of it for us was much worse than any procedure but it is how it makes you feel really pleased to hear everything else spot on !!!

kaz just loved little Kezzy standing.... Standing no less, my DTs were born 11th July and the little fella only just rolled over the other day, the child is a genius

Ladymac we sold our icandy pear double buggy on ebay last week, we had a reserve of £420... bidding started on the second day really low around £150 and hardly increased until the last day Monday and within the last 10, 15 minutes it increased to £475...
Good thing really as like jw advised me charges were around £50

jj well done you I'm not quite back in the 12 yet but the 14's I brought on my little shopping expedition today are a little loose so another couple of months, heres hoping ... until that is I log on here and have to read all the creme egg talk uuummmm... must resist
on the subjebt of uuummmm and the Alexander Armstrongs of this world can we also throw into the mix, sorry not aware of his RL name just know him as the dark mr Gordon on Coronation Street

Hello triggles and MsBrandybuck

jeanjeannie · 19/02/2009 16:30

OMG Welsh Chris from DoodleDoo........I SOOOOO WOULD!!!! Hahaa jj ermintrude and brandybuck fight it out with spider-like hand puppets

Eulalia how bloody awful Gosh - I don't know what to say apart from poor you and what an earth is your mum on? Sounds like you were expecting it though I've had a CVS - basically a similar thing only done earlier on. I was given a 1 in 2 odds of Downs AND Edwards when I was preggie with Verity. Very scary. The CVS was over in about 20 secs and wasn't even uncomfy. Everything was fine - it was a huge relief. The waiting for the results etc is MUCH worse than the procedure.
Keep us posted - and rant ANY time you like
