Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

Glad to have the O2 out of the house tbh. It's a fire hazard. She doesn't need it and hasn't done for months. I just like having my comfort blankets around me

Primal Scream eh JJ? Not sure it was that singer though whose DC was called Wolf. Now I'll be racking my brains for ages now...gah! I'll have to thumb through back issues of OK!

Last leg of the decorators here tomorrow to finish off the dining room. Huzzah!

tee sounds like she's just not read your notes as all your Ob appointments should have a letter going to your GP (mine always asked if I'd like a copy sending to me too which I always had so I knew what was being discussed). Praps she thought something was being missed but like I said, not been thorough enough to read through all of your notes.

JJ well done on the madras. Oh how I'd love something like curry or chocolate right now (or even a combo of the two together). No such luck. I'm on weigh in tomorrow and feeling optimistic that I've lost some more of my tonnage. Other son commented I was looking a bit thinner today and I always say, if men notice then it must be bleeding obvious! I'll let you know tomorrow.

mrsb where you hiding? How's work going? Is D sleeping or are you hiding away cos you're catching up on snoozing? Answers on a postcard please!

I was thinking about mrsjupiter today and wondering how she and baby Eva were doing. Anyone heard from her?

johnworf · 09/03/2009 20:37

I don't have a middle name but one of my friend's is of Polish extraction and his middle name is Xenon! A noble gas .....how apt

ermintrude13 · 09/03/2009 20:43

JJ I think I'll have to bow to the pressure on Tedmund. I just love Ted so much and it would work brilliantly with the surname; he and his bro would sound like a couple of miners or farmers, eeh, that'd be right gradely . I have a rather boring monosyllabic first name which everyone my age seems to be called so always longed for something interesting. Different for a boy though, I guess. I like your DH and bro's middle names but you'd have to have a reason for bestowing them - like some Serbian connection!

JW ooh send us a pic when your decorating's done. Was the wallpaper all over or for a 'feature wall'? We're trying to decide what to paint the spare room to make it into a nursery - currently a rather pale eau de nil, definitely needs something striking.

jeanjeannie · 09/03/2009 20:47

LOL@Xenon I think there is a nightclub in Wycombe called that!!

JW the madras was gorgeous AND zero fat! I did it with just onion, ginger and garlic in the Magimix and then dry fried all the spices (from the mad Kashmir rebel man down the road!) bunged in water, lime and tin of chopped tomatoes and ...eh Voila!

Am so of having the decorators in....I'll post a pic of the garden .... and the fallen tree (with the big boobies!) and you can laugh at our state of chaos

Pictures of garden trauma and tree on profile. It'll make you all feel better about any turf and foliage problems you may have

MUM41plus5 · 09/03/2009 21:09

jj my mothers middle name is May, her and all her sisters first names are flowers, I have a sister called Susan and her middle name is very similar to your MN talk name
that madras sounds delicious I can't believe it's low fat well done you, I must try that one

one of my daughters is affectionately known as Millie until like you say she has done something wrong then her full birth given name comes into play CAMILLA!

Tee2072 · 09/03/2009 21:11

jj the garden is, um, lovely!

jw I get so aggravated because they never seem to read my notes ever! I mean, 6 months after I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was sent a letter to be tested for diabetes because my BMI was so high. Stuff like that!!

Also, JJ that madras sounds wonderful! Send me some?

Another new mummy question...how common is it that you have to cut dairy out of your life when breastfeeding? Seems very common, based on posts here on MN, but I wonder how common it actually is.

hedgepig · 09/03/2009 21:24

lovely garden JJ I'm sure B would have great fun clambering over all that debris.

Tee I have noticed that trend re dairy and bfeeding too Tee, I'm not sure how much of it is based on actually allergy testing of the babies for adverse reaction to dairy or just my baby is unsettled so it must be the dairy I am eating. It can happen my HV found her baby was actually reacting in utero to dairy as also after birth when she bf, but how shall I put this, I'm very surprised at the prevalence of it on MN.

I like Thedmund ermintrude although the poor little one would be blighted for life with people looking a bit non plused at his name. I like a name that can be shortened but you can keep the long one for best or if you get a serious job.

mrsboogie · 09/03/2009 21:26

hello all

Busy day today - mostly trying to stay awake at work - Mr D still feeding 2 or 3 times through the night. Today was his nursery day and we expected him to be ready for bed as soon as we got in the door tonight- well we turned up at nursery to be told he'd only had 2 teeny catnaps in the day - then he stayed awake all the way home in the buggy played in his baby einstein gym for over an hour, then he sat unaided on the floor several times before finally being sent to bed at 8.30 I am worn out. Pleased he can sit upon his own now though.

Haven't had time to read many posts - saw the O2 has left the building jw Good news even if it did give K's mummy a little wibble.

hope all are well

nite all

jeanjeannie · 09/03/2009 21:30

Why thank-you tee I thought you'd be able to see the finer points of the landscaping

I've not cut out any dairy - in fact I found that the only thing in the food department to interfere with breastfeeding is....organges/tangerines/satsumas and only while Verity was really in her first few months. It did seem to make her windy.

I'm really not sure about how different foods cross over into your milk supply. I do think some people get very het up over colic - which is common for most babies at some time (both BF and bottle) and spend much time whipping foods out of their diets. I basically ate what I felt my body needed as BF does make you blinkin hungry! Hhahahahah I wrote down 'Hungary' and couldn't work out why it looked all wrong Warning: Breadtfeeding can turn you into a country!!

mrsboogie · 09/03/2009 21:38

am thinking I might have to give the old Xenical a go jw - if you are feeling slenderer already and people are noticing - sounds fab!

mrsboogie · 09/03/2009 21:42

oh and re the dairy - all humans are lactose intolerant to some degree or other we aren't meant to drink cow's milk after all. But I reckon people just see it as something to fasten on when they think there is a problem sometimes.

FloriaTosca · 09/03/2009 21:45

Oh dear what tragic news today..so, so sad for both Eulalia and the lady on the June thread.

JW Understand your worry about losing those saftey nets but how wonderful that K really does not need them anymore! And thank you for your lovely generous offer...I'm just sorry I didnt get to meet you in RL

Ermintrude so with you on the Archie/Archibald dilemma..my grandad was Archie and I really wanted to use his name for Alex but cant stand the full length version and couldn't bring myself to use the diminutive as a full official name

Thanks to all who were asking about last nights concert, it was about 80% full so hopefully possibly made about 2k for Macmillan Cancer Support who did so much for both Fionas dad (the mezzo who arranged the concert)last year and for my Dad 2 yrs ago ..its the 2nd anniversary of my Dads passing tomorrow so last night was quite an emotional one for me. The concert itself went quite well I think...I'll know better when I hear the recording which only got arranged on Saturday and is going to be the saviour of the day for Fiona, as most of the chorus and orchestra have signed up for a copy at £10 a copy which should recoup most of her overheads...if it makes more she will be donating the extra to the charity of course

johnworf · 09/03/2009 22:21

floria so pleased it went well last night and once again, apologies I couldn't make it. MacMillian nurses also came to see my MiL when she was told it was terminal last year. Her anniversary was Feb 26th and this year was the 1st year. She didn't get to meet K but we got to tell her when she was very poorly and near the end that K was a bean in my tum and we've given K her name as a middle name

I've never been told anything about dairy food and b/f and that's over 3 babies (I didn't bf my first). In fact my MW told me to drink lots of milk when I was expressing for K

mrsb D is sitting up on his own already? I was thinking about this today as I can't remember what age they do that but K is nowhere near showing signs that she'll sit on her own. I tried her the other day and she pushes her heels so that she flies backwards Crazy kid.

Yes I am feeling like I've lost something now we're at the end of week 2 but I'll see what the scales tell me.

I shall post a pic of the finished rooms ermintrude just for you We do have a 'feature wall' but I wasn't aware that it had a name until the decorator told me The other 3 walls are thick lining paper painted in magnolia. Not ground breaking I'm afraid but the wallpaper is very busy so it'd look mad if it wasn't plain. The dining room is just lining paper and once again, magnolia. I am the missionary position of wall colour

Tee2072 · 10/03/2009 07:44

Morning all

floria very pleased that it went so well. Must have been very hard for you. Try to take it easy today.

mrsb D sitting up! How wonderful! Too bad about the lack of sleep still, though. Have you tried drugs? For you, not him.

I was thinking that there can't be that many babies with a diary allergy! It sure seems excessive around here. And the be all and end all of 'well, baby has colic, cut out dairy!' I'll have to ask my SIL if that was recommended to her 9 years ago when my niece had colic so bad.

As for me, feel like total ick again today. So another day off for me. I'm sure my boss looks like this and . But he'll get over it! I'm doing the best I can!

johnworf · 10/03/2009 07:50

tee I have a diary allergy. My blog is in a terrible mess!

Wouldn't worry about your boss. Not like they can sack you while you're preggie is it?

Ok, weigh in done. I've lost 4lbs. Happy with this.

ermintrude just for you, I've taken photo of wallpaper as promised. It's on my profile.

Tee2072 · 10/03/2009 07:53

LOL JW! OOOPS!! And go you on 4lbs gone! And your room looks beautiful!

jeanjeannie · 10/03/2009 08:23

Morning ladies. A full nights sleep over here at JJ towers - I'm like a new woman!

floria SO pleased it went well and attendance was good. Sounds like it was emotional and inspiring - well done to you for getting it all done. MacMillan is indeed a fine charity

mrsB good to hear D is sitting up. Verity did venture to the next stage but decided she didn't like it and is firmly on her bum at all times now!

jw that's gorgeous paper - not missionary position at all...that's bordering on the oral sex of wallpaper Decorating seems light years away. The bedrooms are done - we've got Farrow & Ball deep red in ours and Iris has a kahki feature wall. Verity has a tiny white box! Plan is to have photos in black frames all down the hall staircase.....ha - one day. I have a weakenss for mags like Living Etc & Elle Deco but have stopped buying them as they make me cry! I'm a confirmed Delicious Mag girl now

Did my weigh in this morning and I've got 2lbs to go before I've lost a stone since we first started this malarky Got another 1.5 stones to go before I'm technically not overweight.

tee have a good rest at home. I checked out the BF board last night - gosh, some people do make it out to be a science! I remember the midwives constantly saying 'nipple to nose' and Verity has never eaten boobie like that!

Off to soft play this morning - then I'll need a rest in a darken room. ladymac are you still with us...??!!

Neddie · 10/03/2009 08:24

HI all
So sorry Eulalia to hear your news I hope you have a lovely family to help you at this time, I know how difficult it must be for you as it happened in my family too. My sister-in -law had a stillborn on Christmas day, no matter what reason you lose a child it must be one of the worst things in the world and my heart goes out to you.

I had a lovely weekend with DP and we managed to book a flight for the weekend after next.
I had second scan yesterday and both babies are jumping around and fine with two bags and two placentas, so definately not identical.

Nuchal next week so fingers crossed. Blood pressure now down to 90/60 where will it go next? Coma? Anyway I seemed fit and well despite everyone telling me I was an oldie and higher risk. Sorry but I am fitter than most 20 year olds that I see in these clinics. Makes me mad!

MUM41plus5 · 10/03/2009 08:39

Morning

Well I think its congratulations all round this morning

Floria for the success of last nights concert...

jw on a lovely lounge (do love the wallpaper) and 4lbs I know that feeling, its good isn't it...

mrsb D sitting up

jj a good nights sleep, nothing like it

tee sorry you're not too well today but a day of rest sounds wonderful

I'm off to dentist today for spit and polish just hate it when the dentist puts that horrible thing in my mouth ooppps I mean that suction pipe, just makes me gag, hate it so not so good a day for me.

ermintrude13 · 10/03/2009 08:46

JW That wallpaper is absolutely fab - exactly the kind of thing I'd go for. I've never ever used pattern wallpaper - so if you're missionary position I must be a virgin ; always gone for lining paper and paint although after our first house - all neutral, subtle white with a hint of summat stuff - we've always had bold colours. But we can never decide on pictures and knick-knacks so a patterned wall would make them unnecessary...hmmm, will think on't next time we start again on decorating the child-height finger prints off the wallso of this house aka the Forth Bridge.

JJ That garden has potential

Tee I agree that a lot of fuss is made about milk and dairy, and feeding mums can be depriving themselves of calcium and fats unnecessarily. My DC survived my born-again champagne charlotte lifestyle for the first couple of weeks without any colic (they didn't even sleep more!) and although DD did have further colicy episodes we never identified a foodstuff which caused the problems and careful burping/distraction usually did the trick so it wasn't that serious.

floria glad the concert went well, and for such a great cause

Must dash - DS and his friend are dancing to the Fratellis in the sitting room and need to get their shoes and coats on for school

johnworf · 10/03/2009 13:04

Thanks ladies for your thumbs up for wallpaper. It was worth the threats of divorce!

ermintrude Like the image of your DS and friend dancing to the Fratellis. Sir Terry never plays anything so racey in the morning when I'm listening.

neddie glad that everything is going well and that the scan was spot on.

JJ I considered the Farrow & Ball but it's a bit too adventurous for me. I'm strictly beige woman. I'd give up on those Homes & Gardens mags. They don't inspire me at all. I think there's too much chintz going on for my liking. Like the sound of the photos down the hallway btw. I used to have pics of all the children at various stages of growing up (baby teeth, no teeth at the front, big goofy teeth are the 3 you can go by!) but they're all in the loft now as we've decided to declutter and go minimal - downstairs only I hasten to add. DSS's bedroom is a mini version of Toys R Us.

I've turned into K's chauffeur overnight. She loves being driven about the place so I took her to the dry cleaners today. Not to have her cleaned. Ahem. To pick up curtains.

I'm holding off not worrying that K can't do anything apart from bounce in her chair, blow spit bubbles and do incredibly large, adult poos....no rolling properly and no sitting. hmmmm

mrsboogie · 10/03/2009 13:51

afternoon all

Atwork eating my lunch so just popped in to say and quick hello and have a nose at jw's new walls. Very nice indeed Ours isn't dissimilar - sort of silvery where yours is goldy or whatever you'd describe it as. I love the mimimalist look - am v - our place is cable city!

I think Mr D has managed to sit up becasue when he tried to roll over he couldn't so he began trying to roll "up" and he has made his neck and back muscles quite strong. He also spends a lot of his day either standing in the baby einstein thing or sitting in a bumbo chair so I think that helps.

Well doneon the weight loss jw that's ten lbs now isn't it? Brilliant. And as for jj - you're renewing my determination to get on the exercise bike!

Right, must get back to my delicious Marks' superfood salad (only 9g of fat!!) I'll be on later - when you're al gettign ready for bed.

jeanjeannie · 10/03/2009 13:57

Survived soft play - although there was excitment. Our friend was due to pop next week - but this morning (that'll be the full moon!)at 8am she text one of our group to say her waters had just gone - so obviousy wouldn't be joining us. Then, at 10am as we all met up, her hubby sent us all a text saying it was all going nuts - no midwife yet (home birth)could one of us come as our friend's sis who was also supposed to be there was in a jam on the M40....HELP! So off went our mate to collect the eldest DD while we looked after her kids.....and yes, our mate got to the house just as the head was appearing Midwife then arrived and the little boy appeared seconds later - all doing fine - and no tears or stitches and waters breaking to birth - 2 hours

jw I'd not worry about not being able to do that much. Verity can barely roll - hates it. She sits but you have to make sure there is a cushion or she'll go splat!

mum41 I must go to the dentist - it's not the pain that worries me - it's the £££

neddie that's great news about the scan and each little one happy in it's own sac!

Righty ho - off to make a Baby Boy card!

JJ I'm for a check up at the dentist next Tuesday and it's free unless you're one of the poor unfortunates who can't get an NHS one (there's many in the south that can't, I know. I was one of them for 2 years ). DH's dentist has just gone 'independent'. That means private in my book. No more NHS so he's joined my practice just in time as they've now closed their books to new NHS patients. It's very bad if you need your teeth seen to Money or your...errr...molars!

Wow, what a story! Loved the 'I got there just as the head was popping out'. lol.

I'm not too worried about K not doing things just I have this bloody cerebral palsy thing at the back of my mind and until the consultant says it's not so, then I won't be able to breathe a sigh of relief and let her get on with being lazy. Actually, I asked consultant why she wasn't rolling and she said they roll anywhere from 7 weeks to 7 months and beyond and there's no hard and fast rule for that one.

mrsb aye, it's 10lbs in all and even, wait for it, DH has noticed! Oh. My. God. If he's noticed, then it must be very evident

Box of Thorntons easter eggs has arrived and the dog is looking like it's his birthday so had to hide them all under my bed (he's not allowed upstairs). Very cute with names on them. DH has snaffled the free box of choccies I got for spending over £25 I was going to give those to my mum for Mother's day too. Poo willy bum face.
