Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

tee- probably trying to stave off deflation. Modern economics seems to dictate that controlled inflation=healthy growth, whilst deflation or stagflation is an economy killer. Ever since they first announced it as a likely move, it's sounded like something Robert Mugabe might do to combat problems in the economy, but I'm sure they know what they're doing... ahem

Tee2072 · 05/03/2009 15:33

duchesse we already have deflation those!

They are just grasping at straws at this point.

ermintrude13 · 05/03/2009 15:45

Well I think the money printing sounds great - when do you think we'll get ours? Will it come through the post in a little fat envelope or shall we have to pick it up in the post offices? Hang on a mo - what post offices? etc....

MUM41plus5 · 05/03/2009 15:49

bonzo hehe a poo, now thats something entirely different, you couldn't mistake that for anything other than a poo, you'd think they're trying to pass an artic the fuss they make
seems its not just a boy thing then, hope that isn't a sign of things to come when your DD is 16 and throwing herself on the floor because you won't let her go to that party til the early hours Verity too? jj
my girls never really had a temper tantrum until teenage hormones kicked in, think they make up for it though

thanks jj will put them all in the freezer

jw whats Ashley Cole been up to now?

BonzoDoodah · 05/03/2009 16:12

lol at the artic mum41 ....and if it were me and the veg and it was already coooked I'd keep tomorrow's in the fridge. I don't think the freezing and defrosting is too brilliant for such a short period.

MUM41plus5 · 05/03/2009 16:18

I was still on page 32, didn't realise we'd jumped a page

I don't really know much about the economy, just what we need to know that affects us but with DH running his own company (and branching out now too so fingers crossed) he has dealings with the accountants and the general opinion is that, at least 2 of the major banks have not particularly changed their lending policy at all and are continuing to do the same business, obviously not to the extreme degree of a year or so ago but pretty much the same none the less and also that the intrest rate cuts are not being passed to customers as most have a buffer to go no lower than a certain percent, I know I have probably put it very much in laymans terms but I hope I've made sense
also it would appear the housing market is starting to pick up again, we are certainly noticing it around this area
oh I'm ever the optomoist

jeanjeannie · 05/03/2009 16:20

ermintrude I had heard that we should all be getting about £75,000 each in new bank notes dropping through our door. MMmmm, money [Homer Simpson emoticon]

Seems to me that they're all really scared of house prices falling - but hey, no one gave a hoot when they went skyrocketing way beyond what the average wage could realistically afford. They're only the price they are because banks lent 5+ salaries and so everyone wanted a slice of the action.
I sort of predicted it - although I thought 2007 would be worse than it was. I sold up in London in 2006 and there is no way I'd get that money now. All this talk of year on year growth....it's just not sustainable as wages aren't going up at the same rate. Oh it makes me so cross - and those poor pensioners - kicked in the teeth while bankers and their pensions are protected

Sorry. Let's go back to piles - they were far more fun!

ladymac · 05/03/2009 17:56

Did someone mention piles?

Tee2072 · 05/03/2009 18:02

Hello

Well board meeting part of day is over, thank god! Now I'm just hanging out at work waiting for the dinner part to start! Good thing I have a bar of chocolate in my bag...

The economy sucks. Do we really need to know anything else?

yes, back to piles...

johnworf · 05/03/2009 18:22

mum41 ever the optomoist (sic). Excellent. Just what we need.

I'm currently writing this from Johnworf island in the Balearics. Weather is here. Wish you were beautiful.......not really. I'm still here at Worf Towers after just flushing K's 3 massive poos of the day down the loo. I just knew that carrot dinner she had y'day would come back and haunt me but hey, it went down very well, so that's nice

I'm doing my best in these hard economic times of not paying much attention to the scaremongering the press is very good at handing out. My sales have dropped drastically but I know they'll pick up. I just need to get my arse into gear and start doing a bit of marketing (I've been very lax of late). I'm waiting for my dosh to come from the government or better still, I predict I shall win tomorrow nights Euro Millions of £87 million. If I'm not on here come Saturday I'll be sunning myself somewhere exotic like Southport

johnworf · 05/03/2009 18:24

O O O o forgot to say...there's another Thorntons 20% off code. I've just ordered all my easter eggs (with names on, how cute!) for various sons, daughters, neices, nephews, greedy git of a husband. It's yours if you type in LFE9

Toodles.

jeanjeannie · 05/03/2009 20:17

jw I expect this time next week you shall purchase Thorntons with your Euro Millions

Aren't piles great - they perk up the most depressing of times.

Southport - living it large. I'm very fond of Dungeness....no, seriously, I am

Ho hum - no sweeties but only an hour before the red riding trilogy starts....I is quite looking forward to that.

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 05/03/2009 20:21

Thornton's won't be seeing any of my money any time soon - with their evil tempting emails about yummy yummy continental chocolatey things...

/drools

sounds like you are having a knackering day tee

had one of them myself - I can report ladies that three hours sleep isn't really conducive to a good day at the office

not expecting much better tonight either...

MUM41plus5 · 05/03/2009 20:51

Uuummm Thorntons oh dear we still have some eden left over from valentines, must resist, doing well on the healthy eating, MUST RESIST!

tee you're holding on in there then

jw scaremongering it is! thats why this country is suffering a deeper recession than most other european counties... we talked ourselves into it... time to start spending our way out now!
silly question I know but (sic) = ?

jj trying to stay up to watch that myself, not sure I will make 2 nights in a row up till 11:00pm

mrsb you slept for 3 hours in the office today sorry
I really do feel for you, I need at least 7 hours of sleep a night, just one night of under 5 to 6 hours and life is just hell so 3 hours I couldn't even imagine, hope tonight goes better

johnworf · 05/03/2009 21:16

You'll be glad to know that I didn't purchase any chocolate for myself. DH asked if I'd bought him an egg with his name on it Of course I did. You're a child too! Although I did pull his leg when I told him that I'd had 'arsehole' iced on his....not really of course.

mum41 was just highlighting your typo for comical purposes. I was thinking that optomoist could be something you could be when you're ttc. Just having a little joke-ette.

JJ don't tell me what happens in Red Riding as I'm Virgin +++ the series. Looking forward to it. We're watching Billy Connolly who is looking mighty old these days.

mrsb 3 hours????? Lordy! No way could I function on that amount of sleep let alone go out to work. What's D been up to apart from not sleeping?

Nell McAndrews still BF her 3 year old. I'm sorry but when they've got a mouth full of teeth and are running around and shouting, then it's time to stop methinks. Have images of Little Britain in my head now.

And isn't Amy Winehouse looking so much better?? Amazing. Her skin is better than mine.

MUM41plus5 · 05/03/2009 21:32

jw ah ha didn't notice lol ooopps
won't tell you what happens but it's certainly going to keep me awake, ad break over
night all

good luck with sleep mrsb

Tee2072 · 05/03/2009 22:44

Hi all

Made it home, dinner was a grand success!!

Now I am heading to bed, hoping to surface until at least noon!

johnworf · 06/03/2009 07:33

tee glad it all went well. Give yourself a pat on the back

I think everyone else has emigrated as it's deathly quiet.

Off out for lunch later with DD#1 which should be interesting as I'm very limited on what I can eat. I'm thinking I'll probably end up having just fruit, which I've been eating loads of recently. We'll see......

FloriaTosca · 06/03/2009 08:39

Glad it all went swimmingly Tee hope you have a lovely lay in.

I haven't emigrated JW (whistful emoticon)I hope you find something wonderful for lunch that you can eat without disasterous consequences.

Well we had yet another rubbish night from Alex...(yawn)...dont understand how he can be so bright and cheerful at 5.30am when he didnt go to bed until 9pm and was awake at 12.45 and 2.30....I brought himinto bed with me to see if he would settle again but got treated to half an hour of him hiding under the duvet shouting "1,2,3 Boo!"..I got up and made his porrige but after 3 spoonfuls he gave me the 'finished' hand sign and waved at the bowl saying "bye, bye this!"...It drives me mental when he does annoying things and then is this cute...I can see it being one of those days...heaven help Dh tonight when I'm at rehearsals!

ermintrude13 · 06/03/2009 08:44

Mum41 sic is Latin for 'thus'. It's used when you quote somebody to demonstrate that you know it's the wrong spelling but it was rendered 'thus' in the original. Hence JW quoted you as having said 'optomoist' (sic). Which sounds like quite a useful word to use if you think a hot date is going to go well - 'He's charming, gorgeous, loaded and hung like a horse so I'm feeling very optomoistic about tonight'

JJ I couldn't stay awake for Red Riding but must watch them - Seventies Sheffield is my childhood! Tell me if it's good but not what happens!

JW I've concluded that I prefer prole chocolate to Thorntons . And our corner shop has a dodgy offer - TWO of those twin-pack 140g bars of Dairy Milk for £1.50. The stockroom's full of them. Sell by date this June but they're in peak condition.

Tee hurrah, you can relax now, glad it went well

Thumper has been kicking almost non-stop since 6.30. Best get It's name down for morning Tumbletot sessions now.

tootsieb · 06/03/2009 09:15

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site.

I'm Theresa, I'm 39, from Belfast; and hoping to be pregnant any day now with my third and hubby's first child. I've had a great hour and a bit reading through all your posts in this thread, and I think I'm going to like it here.

johnworf · 06/03/2009 09:32

tootsieb you should talk to tee she's in your neck of the woods But welcome to our humble thread anyway.

ermintrude to me, chocolate is chocolate is chocolate (unless it's very cheap and an unknown make, then it's not). I got the Thorntons eggs more for novelty value. I normally buy the cheapo ones from the supermarket which are perfectly fine but I know that the children will go doolally for their names on them (even the 23 year old . Her most of all).

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 09:38

Morning all.

Well, didn't sleep until noon, but did sleep all the way to 8:30! Haven't done that in ages!

tootsieb I also live in Belfast! I'm 40 and expecting my first baby in June.

JW I would go doolally for an choc egg with my name on it!

Today is the baby's heart scan. I am surprisingly not nervous about since the OB was very reassuring about it on Tuesday, but if you've got any nice thoughts to spare around 2:30 today, me and the baby would appreciate it!

ermintrude I've been getting kicked very strongly this morning as well. Perhaps its the weather?

jeanjeannie · 06/03/2009 09:43

Morning all. So far, 5 nappies, one nursery run and 2 muslin cloths full of snot!

Tee Well done you - have your well-earned rest

floria oooo, 'eck...will you still be awake for rehearsals?!

ermintrude Well, I got soooo tired about 10.30 and really, really wanted to see it BUT to be honest - I couldn't hear some of it. It's a real bug bear of mine - poor sound. I understand it's for effect but you literally had to keep your finger on the volume button as the drop in the quality of the speech was so dramatic you couldn't hear important things. It was also darn confusing. So I gave up. 70's Nottingham (so close to Sheffield) is my childhood and some of the pub scenes look just like the sort of places I used to remember us going to.

jw have a nice lunch. Fruit and salad - you'll be fine; perfect super-model food!!

tootsieb HELLO! welcome to our happy little band of oldies although 40 is the new 20 We like cake, gossip and the occasional light foray into topical conversation all of which is taken in a very light-hearted manner! Nice to have you along. I do hope you're working hard at that baby making

OP posts:
MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 09:47

morning lovely weather her again, frosty but sun in just lovely.... weather forcast over now for the news

seriously though I did hear in the news this morning they are getting nearer to a vaccine for diabetes, I know that will be good news for some of you

jj I can not believe that I fell asleep half an hour before the end and you can't fill the last half hour in for me because of others waiting to watch, I must say I found it pretty dark, a little like a North of England 'twin peaks'

tee is that a very contented snoring I can hear enjoy the sleep!

ermintrude just thinking of the money I'm saving on latin lessons thought it would just be advice on bringing up baby, its just a fountain of information on this MN, I think they should consider some kind of degree awarded after a year or 2 seriously though, thanks

floria oh no you too, I was just wondering how mrsb got on last night, hope things improve for you too!

mrs hope you did have a better night
