Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

tootsieb hello

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 09:49

Unfortunately mum41 they've been saying that about a diabetes vaccine for about 20 years! So I'll believe it when I see it!!

MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 09:59

tee they have apparently found a gene present in I think around 50% of primary sufferers and 20% of secondary sufferers (don't quote me on those figures but I'm sure it was about that) and that in turn leads them a lot nearer to creating a vaccine, lets hope so

there I go again ever the optomoist

jw hope you have a lovely lunch

jj yes so quiet, think thats why I fell asleep as had to have volume up and then when the ad break came on it was so loud woke me quick smart, luckily didn't wake DC's though

MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 10:01

DC's darling childrens obviously still tired

duchesse · 06/03/2009 10:03

If I am a cheerful Communist, does that make me an optomaoist?

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 10:07

duchesse go stand in the corner for that one!

I hope its true this time mum41. But they've made the same claim before!

ermintrude13 · 06/03/2009 10:18

I'm hoping to be beaten soundly tonight - I'm an optomasochist...

duchesse · 06/03/2009 10:20

Well, yes, definitely something to look forward to. As long as it's equally shared, and no capitalist pig gets all the beating.

MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 10:25

hehe

mrsboogie · 06/03/2009 10:57

morning all

Just a quickie as am at work - did manage to get some sleep last night as I went to bed earlyish although D woke at 12, 2 and 5am he went back down straight after and slept til 8.30 so I feel relatively refreshed! Yesterday was sooo difficult I couldn't concentrate at all. Like a wet rag I was, all day.

jw hope you manage to enjoy lunch - I have been looking at my recipe mags etc with an eye to the dreaded 12g of fat - it's actually a lot more difficult than I thought. I don't think I have found a single one yet that has less that 25g of fat. I thought it was all about not eating fatty things but its actually more restricitive than that which makes it more attractive to me.

tootsieb hello and welcome and good luck in the impregnation stakes

oh yes the diabetes vaccine - my understanding is that it is a vaccine for type 1 they are talking about. Apparently they have found an enterovirus in the insulin producing cells in children with Type 1 so they reckon that some common virus may be partly at fault.

In other exciting health news I saw the other day that scientists have now worked out a treatment for peanut allergy so people don't need to die from it anymore.

Which is good!

Right back to work.

MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 11:13

mrsb glad you had a better night, our big fella was up at 4:00am for about half an hour too, its the teething for them I think.
a virus, not gene, sorry misunderstood, all good news none the less and heard also about the peanut allergy, another breakthrough, I think didn't they slowly introduce peanuts under strict medical conditions, I nor DC have ever had a food allergy but it must be great news for those that have

johnworf · 06/03/2009 11:18

mrsb yes, you are indeed correct in thinking that it's not just about cutting out (obvious) fatty foods. If you would like to see an idea of what I've been eating, here's the xenical sample diet sheet. Btw I've stopped taking the morning pill as there's no point. 2 weetabix and skimmed milk is bugger all fat so not worth wasting it.

Glad that D complied last night - well sort of!

Right, off out to meet DD#1 while DD#2 is asleep in her cot.

Lots of groans at the play on optomoist

mrsboogie · 06/03/2009 12:06

Oh Lordy jw that is some regime! one eight of an avocado??

and what the heck is fat free cheese? is that not a contradiction in terms? gawd.

Tabitha8 · 06/03/2009 12:22

Tee Hope it all goes well at baby's heart scan this afternoon.
Welcome Tootsieb. I struggle to keep up on here, so well done you!

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 12:32

mrsb fat free cheese is what I used to eat, before my OB said the sweetest words ever 'don't worry about your cholesterol while you're pregnant!' Its very rubbery and not at all nice. But better than no cheese at all!

Tabitha8 · 06/03/2009 12:38

For cholesterol, may I read cellulite, please? Thanks .

mrsboogie · 06/03/2009 14:09

tee I don't know if fat free cheese is better than no cheese at all

just as "mashed potatoes no fat added" is emminently worse than the idea of no potatoes at all...

MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 14:09

busy time now getting ready for school run but will be thinking of you tee hope all goes well

mrsboogie · 06/03/2009 14:10

yes tee hope all goes well - I'm sure it will!

johnworf · 06/03/2009 14:14

mrsb no pain, no gain Btw I don't stick to that menu plan. I just pick out what I think looks ok and use it. I do check some foods I have with the online fat calculator though.

No idea what fat free cheese is though. I know Edam is low but perhaps Weight Watchers do fat free? Dunno. I only have cottage cheese.

Lunch was nice...DD#1 decided to take me clothes shopping instead (she shops, I pay), so a £60 'lunch' later she ran out of time and I had an apple and a smoothie in the car. sob

Beautiful day up here. Think might take K out later for some air. Spring has sprung perchance?

johnworf · 06/03/2009 14:15

Sorry tee will be thinking of you and keeping fingers and toes crossed that bubs behaves and all is well

ladymac · 06/03/2009 15:44

I'm really getting in the practice for having a new baby as I'm getting very little sleep at the moment. Woke up at 4.30 this morning and couldn't go back off so eventually got up at 5, did some laundry, weighed out the ingredients for my banana cake, had some hot chocolate and still couldn't go back to sleep when I went back to bed.

I had 4 friends come to breakfast which was lovely. They all have kids around Grace's age and one of them has a little one as well, a ds 3 days younger than Elizabeth. E was very pleased to have a playmate for the morning, although every time he went near her toy pram she grabbed it and wouldn't let go. Don't think she wanted to play with it at all. This is happening every time other kids come and play, she gets very territorial about certain toys. Think rather than teaching her to share I may go for the easier option and buy a cheap toy buggy to stop arguments

Breakfast finished at one (we had a lot of catching up to do!) at which point I made a beeline for my bed where I dribbled on the pillow for half an hour then woke up craving something more substantial than the croissant and banana cake I'd had for breakfast. Am now waiting for another friend and her dd to arrive. E and this little girl play together lots so I'm hoping the afternoon won't be quite as fraught on the toy front.

DH's cricket club quiz night tonight. I think DD1 might come with us as her boyfriend is out this evening. I'm relying on her to know stuff about 'modern' music. God that sentence makes me sound like such an old fogey! Am slightly competitive when it comes to quiz nights but not sure that my brain is quite itself at the moment.

jj I thought Red Riding was fab. I struggle to hear dialogue in a lot of programmes so we turn on subtitles for most dramas otherwise I spend my whole time turning to DH to ask 'what did he just say?' then we both lose track. Had to Sky + the last half hour as it clashed with Dexter so will catch up over the weekend.

tee hope all went well with the scan and that you have a restful weekend.

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 16:02

Thanks for the good thoughts all.

Totally young, cute doctor did the scan. Everything is perfectly normal! And got to hear the heartbeat, which we hadn't heard before, so that was cool.

DH was watching Red Riding while I was at the dinner last night. He agrees about the volume issue, but he enjoyed it overall.

mrsb it probably isn't better than no cheese at all, but makes me feel like I am eating somewhat normally when I do have to watch cholesterol!

Yes tabitha you may.

duchesse · 06/03/2009 16:11

Fab, Tee!

We get a scan (to pick any anomalies) at 20 weeks here. Mine's at the end of March.

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 16:17

I already had that one duchesse. This one was extra because of my diabetes!
