40 + mums with baby tums & those who've already 'popped' with muffin tops - come say Hi!

Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

blimey jj what an odd affliction I have a similar thing about anything that is honeycomb - I hate the little holes

I hadn't intended to give D slop out of jars but I can't seem to get anything smooth enough for him that I cook myself and he just gags on it. Cooking and puréeing regimes aren't not easy either what with working and all - but hopefully once we are in the swing of things...

ermintrude13 · 27/02/2009 15:04

JJ Did something happen with a jar of Ragu? You can tell us, it won't got any further..

mrsboogie · 27/02/2009 15:08

or a tube of squeezy cheese???

johnworf · 27/02/2009 15:18

squeezy cheese?

My lot will only eat something if it's come out of a packet/jar. I can flog my guts out in the kitchen for hours and get an 'it's alright I guess but would rather have had fish fingers'. So, I gave up long ago and saved myself lots of effort.

triggles those readings sound quite normal - as in non-diabetic - to me.

mrsb if it's any consolation, K has 5oz's as and when she feels like it. Now she's on 2 meals a day (b/fast + lunch) then we've gone down on the bottles too. She has around 5 a day now.

Can't understand this blw thingy and letting babies gag/choke for the hell of it. K can have some toast when she's got some teeth and not before.

hedgepig · 27/02/2009 15:18

Afternoon, have been to play group this morning and just back from buying a wedding anniversary card, 2yrs on the 3rd blooming heck. Last yr I had such bad ms I couln't even go to the shops to buy a card so this is a great improvement.

MrsB Ollie isn't drinking anywhere near 9oz of milk he averages about 4oz very occasionally will take 6oz (once every couple of days). I think toast would be fine at 6months they just gum it to death. I'm actually looking forward to weaning a bit later with O and so we can do a bit more fingerfoods which hopefully will fit in a bit better with family meals.

triggles flat lemonade (with sugar not diet) may tempt your DS as well, it has worked previously for Ben anyway.

Triggles · 27/02/2009 15:26

johnworf I will admit I'm puzzled. I expected higher readings. I shall see how it goes and see what they say about the readings this week.

hedgepig · 27/02/2009 15:31

a little evil thought has just popped into my head MrsB .....no not of JW new stripping career
maybe these B W L babies are taking so much milk because they are not actually succeeding to get any food into their stomachs it is all on the floor?

Kaz1967 · 27/02/2009 16:00

We used to call this squeezy cheese

erminturde if you belong to boots baby club and buy x number pampers nappies you get a nappy bag free

brb the men on the roof seem to be packing up

mrsboogie · 27/02/2009 16:01

that might be the case indeed hedgepig am relieved that your LO and K are drinking similar amounts. I like the weaning business too although being at work makes it a bit awkward.

Wondering when I can try him with curry...

ermintrude13 · 27/02/2009 16:07

Ooh Kaz I remember Primula. Friday sandwiches when Mum had run out of anything fresh. With bits of ham in it. Bleeurgh, couldn't eat it now!

Ta for mentioning the Boots offer; I've seen it but I don't like being forced to join their baby club and I'm not using Pampers and I don't like the bag that much. So there! I have just found an old rucksack DH used to use for work that will do just fine.

PS ErminTURDE! Have you been talking to that JW? People can be so cruel..

hedgepig · 27/02/2009 16:08

a fruity one would be fine pretty early I imagine but just not hot, keep the vindaloo for when he is out of nappies

Kaz1967 · 27/02/2009 16:28

Kez has no teeth yet and at just about 8 months is really into bread, toast, rice cakes, toasted muffin, pitta bread, she also copes well with lu mpy food she really does give it a good chew and kinda gums it into submission LOL

triggles Hope LO is better soon my poor nephew had a horrid virus this month and ended up in hospital because he had convultions (my brother did too as a baby) so keep him cool stripped off and tepid sponge if need be. poor mite

johnworf · 27/02/2009 16:29

hahahahahaha...great minds think alike huh turde

OMG do they still sell Primula? Who the bloody hell eats it? Always hated the stuff and one of my brothers used to get the tube and squeeze it straight into his mouth [sick emoticon] Vile. I expect it's nestled on the shelf next to a Westlers microwaveable hamburger all ready to go in it's bun.

mrsb wow. That'd be a walk on the wild side, giving a baby curry. K's nappy has one of those biohazard symbols put on hers when she's got normal poo in it.

hedgepig do you mean to tell me that you've been married only 2 years? Ok, well I've counted on my fingers and some toes and by my mathemications, you had B out of wedlock You were living over the brush O.M.G. Pass me the smelling salts.............

Tee2072 · 27/02/2009 16:29

triggles if you are 4.6 before you eat and 3.4 after you eat, why the hell do they think you are diabetic? Those numbers are better than most non-diabetics!!!!

I would seriously call whomever told you you were diabetic and find out why they think so!

Kaz1967 · 27/02/2009 16:32

ermintrude ooops sorry I am lysdexic and can't spell

Kaz1967 · 27/02/2009 16:34

JWE I was thinking of getting some primula for Kez thought it would make a change from phili

ermintrude13 · 27/02/2009 16:41

hehe. i just think my name is making you think of cowpats [hmm.

Nowt wrong with fresh cream cheese as opposed to weird stuff from a tube - I used to put Philadelphia/own brand versions of same on baby pasta and pesto for a 5min dinner and they'd wolf it down.

hedgepig · 27/02/2009 17:01

I love primula, although they have definately taken some of the salt out of it since I was a kid so it isn't quite as nice. KAZ I would check the salt content before giving it to a LO it is rather high I think.

It's OK JW you can re-register the birth after you marry so Ben has been legitimatized, so no scandal in our house.

Ermintrude I went on a very interesting cow pat ecology field course when I was in 6th form, did you know different ages of cow pat have different insects in them (I suspect you didn't really need to know that )

Triggles · 27/02/2009 17:14

Tee They said I failed the glucose tolerance test. I don't know by how much. I'll see how the readings pan out this week and then talk to them again.

mrsboogie · 27/02/2009 17:31

I thought the same triggles but didn't knew I knew enough about diabetes to say - but they do sound like low normal readings.

Well, my DS1 was raised on curry so I'm hoping d takes to it as well, he was exposed to enough of it in utero!

blimey Kaz sounds like Kezzie is doing brilliantly.

jeanjeannie · 27/02/2009 19:33

Finally - almost time for bed!

Well, Primula is one of the main reasons I feel like gagging on tube/jar food. That and the freaky taste of 'Shipman Bloater Paste' that I was forced to eat in sandwiches on a Sunday Oh and not forgeting that strange 70s-style sandwich spread - eeewwwww, I've come over all yuk. Seriously, it's daft I know but I even shudder when I put tomato puree from a tube into cooking

LOVING erminTURDE very pleasing

kaz wow - love the gumming food into submission....atta girl

hedgepig we couldn't believe it when we went to register Verity - that we had to re-register should we decide to splash out and beg for stuff and get a wedding list get married They never mentioned it with Iris. We're waiting for the Good Lord to strike us down on Sunday when we head off to the Orthodox church

Both girls are so exhausted. MIL took Verity swimming for an hour - dunked her under and she did that weird swim thing kids do! And Iris got to grips with her goggles...awwww...too cute!

hedgepig thank you for sharing your cowpat experiences - nearly as appetising as thinking of sandwich spread (now that was disgusting - salad cream with bits of veg in it, like milky vomit).

JJ my sister had a colleague who had 3 DC and was divorced from their v nasty father. When she married again her new DH said he'd take their family name so that she and the kids, who were then 12, 12 and 7, would stay the same, as they'd been through enough upheaval and chang already. I thought this was v noble. Anyway, a few years later they had their own DC and the older kids said - look, it was really kind of you but you don't need to have our horrible dad's name, why don't you go back to your original one? Their mum was happy to change hers to his too. But because he'd changed his name by deed poll and hadn't changed it back before the birth, he couldn't call their new DD his name on her birth certificate, and so when he reverted to his original name he had to adopt his own daughter! Confused? Me too

johnworf · 27/02/2009 20:50

Oh my! Name changes, cow pats and Heinz sandwich spreads.....what an eclectic mix

JJ I'm seeing Verity on the front cover of a Nirvana album

erminTRUDE I can see why the DH did it and I can see the confusion afterwards. And poor LO had to have the surname of the exH for a while. Crikey. We have a sort of similar situation....long story condensed; DH never married DSS's mother but she said that she wasn't going to give DSS his surname unless he would marry her. He said he would at some point in the future (but never did as he had some sense) so now DSS has her name which is her exH's surname. The exH is also in Strangeways doing 13 years for murder (this has Jeremy Kyle written all over it). We wanted to have his surname changed to ours but the courts wouldn't have it saying it would cause him distress.

Early night all round at Worf Towers. After stripping well into the night (ooh matron) both myself and DH are frazzled. Plus we're confined to bedroom anyway so tv in bed is order of the evening. Just wish I could have some chocolate. I'm dreaming about it. So far no wet bottom burps

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 07:48

Good morning, ladies.

So my brother posted pictures on his Facebook of my nieces...with blue hair! Apparently that's what happens when you leave daddy in charge for 5 days while mummy is on a women's retreat!! They are 5 and 9, BTW. They really look good with blue hair, and knowing their mum, she will love it!

Definitely off to Ikea today. We were going to take the bus, but then found out it took 25 minutes to go 6 miles and decided it was just easier to take a taxi!

jeanjeannie · 28/02/2009 08:22

Morning all.

tee enjoy IKEA - don't forget to stop for meatballs Oh and shout out really loudly any funny names of furniture. I like to howl out "MALM". A few years ago me and bessie mate used to truck round the IKEA in Croydon and would call out "Billy, BILLY!" when we passed the Billy book cases....childish, I know

Blue hair - how fab! I SO hope my girls want to do something bonkers when they hit their teens, I did

jw & ermintrude OMG - i've spent ages trying to work out all that names thing The adoption thing is truely mad!

JW Strangeways? Murder? How many years has he got left? has he got your address Gosh - I suppose your DSS can't even begin to realise what an amazing escape chance he's got in life with you and your DH...

Off to see our elderly lady friend this morning. She's 85 and there is a small party for her over at the Rye, I think the mayor and local MP are going - so that'll be nice Then DP's brother's girlfriend is over for the afternoon as she's just had an op on her knee and can do bugger all and is bored! She's so glamorous though - I always feel like I need a make over when she's been here
