Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

JJ I have no idea of the details and to be perfectly honest, no wish to. When I said she's like something from J Kyle I wasn't joking, unfortunately. I think the courts must have taken the view that it would indeed been a lucky escape for DSS to live with us otherwise DH wouldn't have been awarded full custody....I may be wrong but not sure they give father's sole custody these days unless there are extenuating circumstances?

Anyway, tee the blue hair is fab I too was going to take a trip to Ikea this morning but K got up, cried a bit then promptly threw up catarrgh like phlegm all over DH. She's fine now but not sure if I should delay the trip for a couple of days to see how things go with her. What things are you looking for tee? I think some of the baby stuff is very nice. I'm after some lovely pics for my long wall after it's been newly decorated.

Talking of pics, I was having a look online last night at limited edition prints and they cost an arm and a leg! It'll be cheap and cheerful from the Swedish place methinks.

JJ dig out your best lippy and put a bit of slap on and then you won't feel so drab in comparison to the g/f. I really hate feeling like that.....and the times I have felt like that are increasing since I had K..I just don't have the time to beautify myself

mrsb how you feeling today dear? Lots of whiskey last night done the trick?

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 08:51

mornin all

feeelin' meh - cold really kicking in now as did Mr D's last night when we had a 2 hr screaming session before bed My god the screams were so loud my eardrums were going wibbly at some points. Eventually got him off and he slept 'til 8.30 apart from one quick feed. He's doing his best to be cheery now though.

jw I do think the mother has to be really bad before the father gets full custody - mind you from the sounds of her - Jeremy Kyle indeed. He is a lucky boy.

jeanjeannie · 28/02/2009 09:27

mrsB that's ruff - hope you & Mr D have a better day today. I'm sure the whisky was, in some way, helpful

jw I've dug out my contact lenses - that's it - no lippy and can't be a*sed to dye my eyebrows - this is as far as it goes today...although I am wearing a skirt that I've never been able to get into before - so that's pleasing. It's from Eco warriers Howies and they're notoriously small sizes...huzzzah!

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 09:30

ooh jj what do you use to dye your eyebrows? I can't get the time to get mine done often enough.

johnworf · 28/02/2009 09:34

Oh well done JJ! I'm envious that you're getting into small sizes but hoping that I'll be joining you in the not too distant future

Dye your eyebrows? I've never done that. The nearest they get to a spruce is when I pluck out a lot of hairs - randomly.

Skirts good. No good for me at the mo though as legs are pasty white from hibernating in pants for months.

mrsb really sorry to hear the cold has took a firm hold on you. I think you are just going to have to dose up on anything you can and sit it out Make sure you milk OH for as much care and attention as you can! Awww poor little D. Hate it when the LO's are ill and there's not much you can give them is there? Just a hint, I spoke to the woman in the chemist and asked her what the difference between calpol and Medised was. She said the latter has the same things as calpol in it but also makes them sleep Anyone second this on here that's used it? Anyway, might be an option for D if the cold gets too much...I'm thinking of getting a bottle in for K when if the teething gets too bad.

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 09:56

Oh I will def get some of that in jw thanks for the tip.

Oh my god have you ladies seen Robert Webb doing flashdance for Comic Relief? Absolutely amazing.

And there's something very strangely erotic about it

jeanjeannie · 28/02/2009 09:59

Oooo - I'd go mad without dyelash (available from all good pharmacies) as I've got 'piglash' - pure white eyebrows and eyelashes. I find that a shaping at a salon is good but dying at home much better as you've got more control on the shade. It's great fun!

As for pasty legs - pah - I'm whiter than Nicole Kidman all year round - it's chocolate opaques and boots for me

Medised rocks BUT is is supposed to be no longer available for children under 2. Changed last year just as Iris was getting really poorly. Apparently it's mainly due to people abusing it - because, yes, it does give them a better sleep. Many parents are very against using it anyway - because of that fact. Personally we found it really, really helped Iris but struggled to get it without proof of her age. I know a good chemist in Notts though that didn't give a hoot

duchesse · 28/02/2009 10:04

mmmmm, sandwich spread... Now I've come over all funny! Been fantasizing about the stuff for ages. Might have to get some. It does come in very small jars, doesn't it? But shipham's paste?? Bleurgh!

ermintrude13 · 28/02/2009 10:13

LOL@ pigs lashes, JJ. Despite being fair-skinned and mousey blonde with fair body hair (and beard, ahem) I do have well-defined darkish lashes and brows which have saved me a lot of trouble, since I'm so cack-handed with the brush that I'd end up dyeing my entire eyelid and sporting a monobrow...

What is it in Medised that makes DC sleep? Antihistamenes were what parents used to drug their kids with but it's not advisable. I steer clear of the tempting but slightly worrying cold cures that contain sleeping drugs, but then coming from a medical family I still can't shift the deep-bred notion that cold cures are for wimps . We were taught to laugh in the face of snotty noses and scorn attempts to relieve a cough. DH loves his lemsip and I can't help but mock him. Suffering, that's what's required, that's the only thing that works, ho yes. Have a rub of Vicks and be grateful.

Sorry, turned into my dad for a moment then .

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 10:29

my eyebrows are going grey

didn't know about medised - have been lucky so far in that we haven't needed to give D anything - he could have done with something to help him sleep last night but once he got off he was fine.

While it is perfectly true that nothing makes any difference to a cold virus I am a firm believer in drugs - if you think its helping then it is helping!!

hedgepig · 28/02/2009 11:58

medised has paracetamol and an antihistamine in it, my friend used to use it to make her daughter to sleep, I was horrified I do like a nice lemsip if I have a cold always makes me feel better,

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 12:12

Back from Ikea. Think we are going to get this cot. I still want to look at Mamas and Papas and Mother Care, but that Ikea one is very sturdy and the price is certainly good!

We also restocked our drinking glasses. Nothing like 6 pint glasses for £3.61!! Too bad they are too tall for our cupboard and our dishwasher (which I said to DH in the store, and he said 'they'll be fine!!' ). We found room for them in the breakfront and they'll have to be washed by hand.

My eyebrows are black, just like my hair, so all I do is pluck! Same with my eyelashes.

mrsb sorry you and D had such a bad night.

JW I've decided pasty legs are fashionable. Or I just wear thick tights like JJ said!!

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 12:40

I like that cot tee I never think of Ikea for baby stuff. Thought you were getting an Amby?

what's a breakfront?

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 12:50

mrsb we are getting an Amby rather than a Moses basket, but I am hoping the baby will at least nap in its cot from the start, to make the transition to a cot full time easier once it outgrows its Amby.

Sorry, same as a china cabinet or sideboard. Technically its a piece of furniture that has a bit that sticks out, like this but has come to mean any type of furniture that holds dishes and such!

ermintrude13 · 28/02/2009 13:29

A breakfront sounds like a dresser. Why a kitchen unit should be called a dresser I've no idea, but both my grandmas had one.

That cot looks lovely, Tee, very stylish and a great price. Ages since I went to Ikea - when DH went to pick up the DC's sofa he had to go alone to make room in the car .

Very nauseous today - it gets worse every time I eat fresh fruit which seems very silly and inconvenient. I feel fine after chocolate. Joking apart, I really would rather it were the other way around, am getting an arse the size of my gran's welsh dresser!

johnworf · 28/02/2009 14:37

tee that cot is lovely but you'll probably find it a bit big for LO when they're newborn. I think your Amby should be good from the start deffo.

I have always known a 'breakfront' (first time I've heard that word) as a dresser too. The people who lived in our house before us tried to sell us their welsh dresser (stacked with willow pattern plates ). We declined their kind offer as that's where our piano went.

Didn't know you had to have a child over 2 to get the Medised. Does it harm the child if they're under 2? I guess I could get something similar from the doc if I asked him.

mrsb I saw robert Webb doing his Flashdance. Not sure about erotic by highly hysterical! My DH was very interested in watching it until he found it was a man doing the dancing. Then all he could say was 'I can't believe it's a man! Which one out of Mitchell & Webb is he then?'

See The Fat Duck has shut down due to dicky tums Wonder if the snail porridge wasn't cooked for long enough

Well I got 3 prints from the cheap swedish shop that we all agreed on. I feel DSS just said he liked them as he really wanted the tribe of penguins pic to go on our living room wall which we said no to. After that, the interest was gone (and he wanted an ice cream) So we'll see what they look like. DH was keen to buy this one. Our living room would look like the window of Thomas Cook's. No, we didn't get it

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 16:29

ah a dresser, in Ireland they sometimes call things like that and sideboards a "press" and an airing cupboard is a "hot press". No idea where it comes from.

Yeah jw the Webb fella's legs look very female, its v funny though and he can clearly dance very well - better than he lets on in that routine I reckon.

D ate his first baby rice cake today, I say "ate" but what he actually did was break bits off it with his mouth and let them fall down his front. Still, he seemed to enjoy it. A carrot stick next methinks.

I must say its bugger dieting when you have a cold - you really feel like the rules should go out the window and comforting foods should be made available. But no.

Any sign of any liquid parpings jw?

Tee2072 · 28/02/2009 17:39

Do you know JW that in the US they don't even buy things like Ambys or Moses baskets? The baby just goes right into its cot, no matter how big!

I am actually very happy to have the baby in with me, but not for the 6 months. Seems a bit overkill to me, but we'll see how it goes!

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 18:12

I just could not be fecked with getting up and going into another room to see to the baby in the middle of the night- I have it all arranged so that I don't have to get out of bed.

johnworf · 28/02/2009 18:27

Well I did think that K would be in with us for the full 6 months as recommended by the hospital. However, when she outgrew her crib, there was no way her cotbed would go in our room so that's when she went in on her own. I'm not sure what I would have done if it hadn't worked out but anyhoo, it did I don't get up to see to her until the morning and we have the baby monitor on by the side of our bed, just in case.

Hot comfort foods are a must when you're ill. Isn't it feed a cold, starve a fever? Obviously this is strict medical advice mrsb so get thee to the biscuit barrel immediately!

No parpings of any kind from bottom. In fact, nothing that is out of the ordinary. I am sticking within the 12grams of fat max per meal which is probably why. From reading up on this and talking to the GP, it's only people who eat a lot of fat have the wet botty burps.

Been in to see my neighbour today to collect a parcel. She asked me who the baby belonged to Then she didn't recognise me either and thought I was someone else. She's 83. I know she's having chemo for breast cancer but this is very worrying as it seems her mind is going too. I must speak to her hubby and see what's going on.

Nothing planned for this evening and still holed up in the bedroom. Good news is that plaster is almost dry so I'm hoping they'll start in there on Monday morning.

mrsb great that D is having rice cakes! It'll be treacle toffee before you know it We're still on the mush but it's going in - and coming out the other end. Ewww

jeanjeannie · 28/02/2009 18:48

Evening ladies. Sorry, not had time to catch up as my mum rang in tears to tell me my gran died this afternoon She was 97 and it was totally expected but she was 17 when she had mum and then 13 mnths later along came my aunt - so they've been together almost 80years! It's been really difficult watching my aunt cope with going to see her in the home and my parents live up in Notts (nowhere near Sidcup, Kent where Nan was) so they've not been able to get to see her much. My dad is 84 and there aren't many men that age still have a MIL

Anyway - looks like we'll have to motor over to give a hand sorting stuff etc, etc. It's a good job DP has taken this next week and a half off to do the garden.

jw glad there are no liquid farts and that you didn't go for the holiday poster print. Did you get the tennis player scratching her bum?

tee cot looks lovely. I've got IKEA bed linen for Iris - it's gorgeous.

mrsB don't worry about the diet - feed yerself up.

ermintrude sorry you feel pants - nausea this late on is a really bad call Also sorry that you're getting an arse the size of a dresser

On a slightly lighter note - DP took a pic of me holding Verity this morning at the little party we went to - and I look almost SLIM I'll post it - when I can be bothered! But I'm thrilled

I'm sorry to hear about your gran JJ. Sounds like a nice long life!

mrsboogie · 28/02/2009 20:23

Sorry to hear about your gran jj and for your poor mum and auntie's loss I'm sure its no less difficult for them no matter how old she was.

what a good innings though.

hedgepig · 28/02/2009 20:29

JJ ((big hugs)) sorry about your gran, at least you are reasonably close to help sort things out.

Tee the cot looks lovely I do like wood. I bought mine off someone at work and forgot to check the colour (dim or what) and when he unloaded it from his car to mine it was white, it's nice but I would have preferred a more natural look. Makes no difference to the babay what colour it is at all.

Had a very frustration ebay day trying to buy a babay wet suit even my pouncing at the last minute didn't work. I do find it oddpeople will pay the same for a 2nd hand thing as they would pay if they got it new but thats up to them.

I was wondering how Lilibet was, if you are lurking do come and say hello we miss you.

MrsB hope the the hot toddys are working and your cold is getting better

jeanjeannie · 28/02/2009 20:42

Thanks all - yes, it was a good innings as they say, but it's the fact the three of them have been together for so many years. Nan married a bigamist - he was a swine, so it was the three girls together!

I was wondering about lilibet I miss her too.

Also ladymac where are you? You're not busy 'popping' are you???!!!

hedgepig what an earth are you planning to do with young Mr O? a wet suit? Is it time for his scuba-driving lessons already?
