Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

hedgepig something you haven't told us??

I know ermintrude I'm just guilt tripping myself - but I have to get it all out before I go back to work next week - don't want to be bursting into tears then!

I didn't tell my parents until I was about 22 weeks - wasn't looking forward to it one bit. I knew I would get stupid questions about whether we were going to get married. And of course I did.

Its ridiculous - at our age!!

johnworf · 09/02/2009 11:45

Is hedgepig with child? Again? Come on girl, fess up!

mrsb I feel your pain. I'd be exactly the same but worse No one has even looked after Katherine apart from DH and even then I fret. Ok, things a bit different for me but I totally understand what you mean about leaving him. Oh, and he won't be bothered btw - seperation anxiety isn't for a few months yet, but you will be Don't worry as it's completely normal. You wouldn't be his mum otherwise would you?

Indulge in your wallow for the day, shed a tear or two and by lunch time next Monday, you'll be back into the swing of office politics and D will be making loads of new friends and being spoilt rotten

Community nurses just been and gone. Looked K over and said she's fine but now have a new number in case of emergency, by-passing the GP and hopefully A&E. Also arranged for her eczema creams/bath lotions to be picked up tomorrow. That'll save me a small fortune in Burt's Baby Bee products Always a silver lining.....

For those who are rowing with partners, I think it's something to do with the weather as I also had words with DH last night. I've told him I'm going to sit him down over lunch and tell him exactly how it is....and how it is, is me still running around at 10pm while he's sat on the sofa watching a film and playing online poker He's bracing himself and rightly so.

hedgepig · 09/02/2009 12:08

No no I'm not
I couldn't cope with the vomiting again

MUM41plus5 · 09/02/2009 12:40

mrsb aawwww I don't know what to say, I have done both with all mine, some I was home for first few years, others I went back to work earlier, if I had a job I really enjoyed (and just the one instead of twins) I too would probably return to work, who knows in this economical climate, if dh business, like millions of others doesn't survive may have to out of necessity, no sign of that just yet though

hedgepig Ollies operation?? not quite got to know you all yet, has he not been well? or have I misunderstood (probably as usual)

euialia hello I had twin boys July 2008 now 7 months (you can see profile) congratulations to you and glad good news on the scan front

JW really glad all went well with k this morning

MUM41plus5 · 09/02/2009 12:44

Any way aren't most of you lucky ladies on here self employed with your own business sorry can't remember from profiles, just go by postings on here

jeanjeannie · 09/02/2009 12:59

Goodness, lunch was like feeding time at the zoo Iris has discovered the joys of bagels - horrah - something different!

mum41 I'm self-employed (when I'm working!) I'm a freelance journalist/writer. I've only done advertising copywriting since the girls were born as it's a) quick b) for an ad agency near here c) Lucrative I won't go back to editing magazines as there would be zero family life as you're expected to hob-nob with advertisers etc and that's nearly always in the eves. However the actual money you're paid for features has fallen dramatically and to be honest is hardly worth doing anymore - even more so now there is the recession. But like you, if DP's business doesn't survive then it'll be life at the check out for me

jw must be something in the air - I went NUTS at DP last night over settling Verity - always me and after 4x a night I'm shattered.

Quick top eczema from our consultant at GOSH...(he's the eczema/asthma/skin GOD) When Iris had hers nasty outbreak he recommended a muslin filled with porride oats. Tie it up and pop it in the bath under the running tap. And wow - it was terrific...made the water cloudy but all silky and it really soothed her skin. My mum now uses it for her very dry skin and swears by it

Right - off to make a Valentine's card for DP from the girls - So far it says "Fire Engines are Red and Thomas the Tank Engine is Blue, Bob the builder is lovely but not as lovely as YOU!"

johnworf · 09/02/2009 13:14

JJ I bet you can't get that card in the shops. It's priceless!

So it's not just me; putting baby to bed with one hand, whipping up a lunch box for DSS for the day after whilst trying to put a wash on? Trouble is, mine sits there and freely admits he's a lazy git but he's 'earning money playing poker'. When I quietly remind him his daughter comes first he goes all silent on me. Anyhoo, they're all from the same mould mold imho.

Have noted down the porridge expert top tip too. We've only got a wet room so I can't try it unless I tie it under the shower but K can have it in her baby bath She's having a bath tonight so will have a go.

mum41 I'm an etailer. Sell designer skinare/perfumes. Bit slow at the mo but picking up with Valentine's day.

Does confusion reign in here today regarding hedgepig? I knew she wasn't preggie again but was checking, but I'm sure nothing mentioned about little O having an op Surely this is a mix up?

johnworf · 09/02/2009 13:41

omg, can't believe ken barlow's wife has died Not Deirdre I hasten to add.

She was a lot younger than him too. Saw her briefly on Mr & Mrs a couple of months ago and she looked great.

Crikey.

ermintrude13 · 09/02/2009 13:51

sorry hedgepig, it was your recent cot-building exploits that confused me!

Neddie · 09/02/2009 13:56

Eulalia I am 8 weeks preg. with twins (5.7.67-my age)They are numbers 3 & 4. I am a terrible mother and not at all good at cooking, cleaning, (what is ironing?)but love anything outdoors or with animals. I am not sure about who's pregnant with what because I have turned into an airhead since being pregnant.Good news on your scan.
N.B. to SAHMs cherish it. I went back to work quite early (about 1 month after both) and I can tell you from experience it's not what it's cracked up to be. I'm going to be a lady that lunches (and e-bays)for the next few months. I am not sure how that one will work during breeding season at the stud but I have a couple of months to figure it out.I'm not sure I want to be mating horses when my belly is like a space hopper. It can get quite exciting. One of my stallion's headcollars came off mid-bonk (not technical term)and we had to lasso him to catch him like the wild west!!

Neddie · 09/02/2009 13:59

ps could we have a list so I know who is pregnant or not and what children they have? I suppose I could look on the profiles but that would require intelligence.

johnworf · 09/02/2009 14:01

Neddie, and anyone else who is interested, here is a potted (and approximate) list of who I can think of. Please add to this so that everyone knows where we are

welcome to all the newcomers Congratulations all round on good scan results
Excellent tip JJ..we used oats (in a cotton sock) in the bath when we had chicken pox as kids...Mum dabbed the sock onto the sores after the bath too for intensive de-itching..very soothing indeed..
..oh, and I'm loving the valentines card
JW glad all is well with K
got to go walk the dog before schools come out (Thane loves kids and tries to tenderise wash each and every one of them)..
...try not to write whole novels before I come back please

Neddie · 09/02/2009 14:11

Thank you johnworf
I see you also have big gap and Duchesse too.My eldest is 16 next month. She lives with her dad 3 miles away (due to school, friends and the fact that she is a teenage girl and daddy is better at the control bit-I actually feel sorry for him. She's a high flyer but really hormonal and with GCSE's looming it's traumatic). My youngest is 6 1/2 and lives with me. I think my next brood will be due on Sept 20th but because there are 2 I think it's more likely I'll have a C-section in August.
