Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Just popping by as we've been to playgroup and are now doing a playdate for nice people!! Those folk who've extended an invite to us are getting one back.....there are others noticably absent - I hope they get the message

Is it 8 months Gawd, yep it is.....Verity follows suit in 2 days...ekk!

No mobile reception here either - all these hills Even our tv is rubbish. We're one of the countries 'black spots' for when all goes digital.....as most people can't even get channel 5!! We've got freeview and we get channels coming and going - not had film four or QVC for months! plus, we're just 25 miles from centre of London and can't get London local telly - it's all about the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth....so helpful

tee glad you're perkier

I'm off to run the brush around the toilet Thing with reusable nappies is that the poo splats on the side when you chuck it in off the liner - doesn't make for a shiny bowl...HAHAHAHAHA you really all needed to know that....byeeee

And yet another argument for disposables, JJ.

hedgepig · 28/01/2009 13:34

thank you JJ I really didn't need to know that & there was me considering getting Bs old nappies down from the loft. I didn't really get on them with B gave him eczema on the bum not nappy rash, and no amount of rinsing different washing powders made any difference.

johnworf · 28/01/2009 13:40

and land fills and exposed human bio hazard waste rather clean the loo with a brush

BonzoDoodah · 28/01/2009 13:44

jw your little one was born at 25 weeks?? Good grief! Was there a reason they knew about? Amazing she's doing so well now - and wonderful. And hope TKMax was a good-un (except the sizes - get the larger one and put the jumper over the top then they can't slip down into it).

I tried for the reusable nappies but DD poo-ed about 6 times a day and it was getting silly. I didn't mind washing off 1 or 2 poos a day but I was up to my neck in it. I gave up and went for Naturecare (biodegradable). [emoticon for failed hippy]

Tee2072 · 28/01/2009 13:51

and washing powder in the water supply and excess use of electricity

The argument actually goes pretty much equally both ways...

mrsboogie · 28/01/2009 14:09

seems to be the case for a lot of "green" issues - there was an item on telly last night about recycling somehow being worse in terms of carbon footprint than not especially at the moment with the prices at rock bottom.

mrsboogie · 28/01/2009 14:12

jw 8 months! I remember the day you came on and said she had been born - seems just yesterday in some ways and yonks ago in others. I seemed to be pregnant for ever after that even though K and D were due the same week. Still, she has certainly caught up you'd never know to look at her that she was so premature. or premature at all for that matter!

ermintrude13 · 28/01/2009 14:16

I think carbon footprint might not differ hugely between the two but the landfill argument wins me right over. I'm hoping to combine reuseables with Naturecare for out and about, even if they're not as absorbent as big brands (my nephew once wore a Pampers which split and the crystals inside went all down his legs and gave him a nasty rash - never heard of that happen to anyone else but it's evil stuff in there and my family are all prone to eczema). Trouble is, my sis has given me this huge bag of different sorts of reusables and I'm at a bit of a loss how to use them, which ones need liners and all that. Will have to start sorting them into sizes and working out how they fasten before June... and then it will be toilet brush at the ready. Yum

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and can't imagine having a baby in 4 weeks - though like Tee, I'd happily fast forward to June and the birth, skipping the indigestion and waddling phase. Tee, what time's your scan next Tues? Mine's 2pm, can't wait.

Tee2072 · 28/01/2009 14:18

ermintrude its at 1:40, so I'll just be finishing (and waiting for my diabetic blood letting!) as you get started!

I also have an OB appointment that day. So I'll probably be at the clinic until about 4 or 4:30! Yeah! [hmmm]

ermintrude13 · 28/01/2009 15:19

At least you'll have some baby photos to coo over while you're waiting for your OB, Tee .

BonzoDoodah · 28/01/2009 15:33

Ermintrude - the naturcare ones form the crystals inside a bit too I think - the way the cornstarch absorbs the wee etc. But I've not had a problem with that in 17 months. And not had a problem with absorbancy either. Although I am a bit unchuffed with them today as I had a pack of faulty nappies (the tape didn't work) and despite a phone call - who directed me to email ... 2 emails and no reply - then today complaining on their website complaints page - and getting an automated-bleedin-pompous-reply ... I'm a bit mad with them.

johnworf · 28/01/2009 15:55

I'm not getting into the whys and wherefores on the green issue but I do have a problem with millions of them sitting in landfills taking years and years to rot down. timesonline.typepad.com/environment/2008/04/why-real-nappie.html

mrsb yesterday! If only I felt like it was then! Seems a lifetime ago and only this morning, I was talking to her midwife and the oxygen and paraphinalia is all going come March. hedgepig prompted me to look at her early pics on my profile and it does bring it all back.

Anyhoo, being clawed in the face so she must want a bottle.........

ladymac · 28/01/2009 16:49

Will second the absorbancy of Naturecare nappies. Think they more than hold their own against Huggies etc. I've used them for ages with Elizabeth and they hold gallons of wee! Even overnight. I'm with you johnworf on the landfill argument. We have Bambino Mio re-usables but I wanted to ask you for recommendations as I want to get some more for the new baby and you seem to have tried every type going!

Have just had an appt with the midwife and she and the student complimented me on my tummy. They said my skin was gorgeous and they'd never seen such a good tum on someone having their 5th baby Am chuffed and as you know, at 30 weeks of pregnancy you'll take whatever compliment comes your way. If only I'd realised, I could have been walking round for the last 6 months in crop tops!

johnworf · 28/01/2009 17:36

ladymac I currently love the Motherease birth to potty nappies. I also tried the Tots Bots with velcro fastening which were nice and snug for a little baby. Little lambs are also nice for first size. But, if you're just going to get one I'd get Motherease as their absorbancy is fab. And I love the Motherease Air flow wraps or the Imse Vimse bumpy wrap (organic cotton). JJ might have some more reccommendations

Am very of your skin. Mine erupted like a hormonal 15 year olds when I was pregnant If you do decide to do a madonna and show off your bump, don't forget the Greggs pasty in one hand, fag in the other and a pic on here please!

johnworf · 28/01/2009 17:39

I posted this some months ago and just remembered it...so for you ladymac a repost. Now you can get some real ideas

Tee2072 · 28/01/2009 17:42

Ah, the pregnant look we all aspire to, thanks jw!!

I actually haven't yet decided which nappies to use. Although I was greatly amused by my mother's incredulity that re-usables still existed! She can't understand why anyone would want to use them! Of course, she's remembering the kind we all wore 40+ years ago!

Tabitha8 · 28/01/2009 17:45

Hello all. This sounds like the home for me. I'm 43, with first baby due in June. I eat lots of cake and chocolate and I'm becoming fatter by the week. No connection there, then.
Ladymac congrats on the lovely tummy. Mine is trying very hard to be, but failing miserably. (That's the grump in me coming out).

Tee2072 · 28/01/2009 17:47

Hi Tabitha!

Are you on the June thread with ermintrude and me? You probably are, I am rubbish at remembering names! Even DH's at times!

Anyway, welcome!

mrsboogie · 28/01/2009 17:48

I am not judgemental AT ALL but the sight of a heavily pregnant woman smoking is a horrible one to behold. I never understand how they can have the nerve to do it in public. I saw loads of them about when I was heavily pregnant with D.

When I was pg with my DS1 I was a smoker - my body decided to give up smoking before I even knew I was pregnant. After that I couldn't even be in a room where had smoker had been without chucking up.

mrsboogie · 28/01/2009 17:52

ooh Tabitha congrats - your first! welcome

Tabitha8 · 28/01/2009 17:53

Thanks!
Ooo, I haven't made it to the June thread. I can't keep up with more than one or two. It must be my age!

johnworf · 28/01/2009 18:16

Welcome to the home for the infirm, hobbling, cake munching old farts Tabitha8

I gave up smoking just before I found out I was having K. I was going to the smoking cessation clinic at my GPs anyway and I now hate that smell you get going through the entrance of any building where all the smokers are huddled outside. Fair makes me want to vomit and I'm not pregnant. (I usually hold my breath till I get inside).

ermintrude13 · 28/01/2009 19:00

Tee - my mum mourns the passing of terry-towelling! She says there's no more satisfying a sight than a washing line full of clean white nappies. I remember my younger sisters walking around like cowboys with huge nappied bottoms held in by sweaty plastic pants - no wonder toilet training happened so early in the seventies.

JW ta for useful comments on good reuseables - I'm going to see if I have any of those in this monstrous bagful and take it from there. And ladymac, she of the lovely tum, it's good to hear that Naturecare can hold it all in.

Welcome Tabitha8 and hope you will pop over to the June antenatal thread with us occasionally, for the kind of day-by-day progress updates that only pregnant women are obsessed with. This thread's good for everything else, especially all matters food-related (and I don't mean top tips for healthy eating )

Hey, Tee, let's both get tattoos on our bellies after our scans next week and post the pics on here! . Bagsy be holding a can of Special Brew!

johnworf · 28/01/2009 19:27

ermintrude the motherease nappies are terry towelling and yep, they do look fab on the line. Your mum is right Only difference is they have poppers to fasten and no pins (ouch). Plus they're shaped so no bulk between the legs and the pants are now breathable instead of rubber (bet she remembers the red ring around the fat baby thighs too ) If you post what you have on here then I'm sure that between myself and jj we'll be able to instruct point you in the right direction.
