Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Good afternoon all. How on earth can it be Sunday evening already? Possibly because I slept through a good portion of Sunday afternoon!

Well done hedgepig! I always call it a double triumph if the DIY gets done and without a major fight!

Yum, chicken. JW what time shall DH and I be there? We can then head to JJ's for pudding.

I think that was the shortest 3 day weekend I've ever had. sigh Back to work Monday.

ermintrude13 · 08/02/2009 19:04

How was your chicken JW? I very nearly roasted a chuck, but went for the lazier option of beef casserole with herby dumplings. Wish I'd made double dumplings, I do love them so. Although, it does mean I have room for some pud if there's any left, JJ

We went swimming this morning, not that there was much room to actually move at Family Swim time. I really must get down the leisure centre of a morning to race against the old ladies . My DC were hysterical at the sight of me in my pregnant lady's swimming costume; DS was worried I might sink. Kids, eh .

DH's playroom plans continue apace - he had a DIY afternoon like you hedgepig, building shelves for DVDs and videos to get them off the toppling pile next to our TV. He got the sofa from Ikea yesterday - with a fluffy PALE CREAM cover. After all I said to him about practicality. Children, playroom, black cats - these elements do not match a fluffy cream sofa. He keeps saying it goes with the colour scheme (in his head) and is washable. I'm sceptical, meself.

Glad you got in 40 winks Tee. So much for the blooming 2nd trimester eh? I've been v tired all week and have been sick twice in the last 3 days after not hurling for nearly a week . Getting m/s in the evenings again too - at nearly 22 wks it's just not on. Can I get my money back, do you think?

jeanjeannie · 08/02/2009 20:18

Evening. Well, there's still time to get round here for pudding - as it's still in the oven! I shall let you know what it tastes like later. Although I can recommend Delicious Mag's recipe for brocolli with chilli and sesame - GORGEOUS!

hedgepig Give yourself a shiney - DIY without tears or getting all shouty, shouty, how pleasing.

Poor tee sounds like you've got that Sunday night means tomorrow is school kinda feeling!

ermintrude you poor thing I hadn't realised you were still feeling sick - that's pants You need to be 'blooming' about now - although I'm buggered if I ever did. Good to hear you didn't sink though Have your black cats found the lovely cream fluffy sofa?! Bob (our moggy) has a radar for anything soft or blanket-like that's perfect for leaving her long black and white hairs

Pud almost done...MMmmmmmm....I'm sadly excited.

Wow. Lots of food talk on here today Excellent!

Sorry mrsb that I led you astray with the Nordic Kids website. It's not hard though is it? I could buy most of the things on that site.

Chicken was gobbled up so I guess it was ok. DD#1 and B/f pitched up with engine still running...she ran in for both their plates of sunday roast, quick kiss on the cheek and was gone again. Phoned me later to say it was lovely. You lot listening out there? The things you do for them and she's 23 next week

jj save me a bit of pud will you?

Gosh, you 2nd trimester ladies aren't having a great time of it are you? I always remember the middle part as the best bit. The lull before the storm of 3rd trimester of walking around like you're moving a wardrobe all the time.

Not up to much tonight. Know what you mean about the Sunday night feeling of 'school' tomorrow. Orders are once again picking up - maybe Valentine's Day? - so busy tomorrow. Ovaltine and early night if K allows it.

Did anyone see this story today? Without sounding like 'woe is me', this baby didn't have heart problems nor sight problems so did very well...good on her I say. Wish we'd also escaped. Both born at the same gestation with this baby 2oz lighter than K. Happy ending at least

Tee2072 · 08/02/2009 20:52

I'm really not having an easy time of it tonight. I'm feeling really uncomfortable and exhausted tonight. And I think I've weed 10000000 times today.

Neddie · 08/02/2009 20:56

Good evening ladies
Just said goodbye to DP at airport and eaten nearly a whole Jamaica Ginger cake as consolation.Next week we are trying a new travel method. He's going to try flying with a small airline to Luton or Stansted and then get the National Express to the nearest town. I must admit that I don't really want to be driving on my own at night for 1 1/2 hours in the snow when I could be at home with a cocoa reading Empire.
I'm pregnant with twins and old (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
It's nice that some of you have DIY husbands- my last one was allegedly a Cabinet Maker but after concrete on the floor of the kitchen for 5 years-no cupboards and and a bed he made that was so high I had to get take a running jump to get on- I decided I would leave and find DDIY husband. That's Don't Do it Yourself- pay someone else so we don't have the ceiling fall down in the kitchen because of a plumbing malfunction upstairs in the loo.
We used to sing the theme tune to "Some Mothers Do'Ave'Em behind his back.Bless.

MUM41plus5 · 08/02/2009 21:11

Hello jw just read the link, you say k was born at the same gestation, I have seen your profile but didn't realise she was born that early, I couldn't begin to imagine how it must have been for you and your family, to say you have my upmost admiration would be an understatement !!!

I don't know about anyone else but I actually enjoy the begining of the week, walking to school wakes me up in the morning ready to face the day, and inbetween the boring housework etc etc I get to enjoy the most precious moments of my life with my children

been popping in and out today while checking our pushchair on ebay, life must be a bit boring as finding it quite exciting seeing how many watchers and bids etc (sad I know) but first time

hope you all have a restful night

jeanjeannie · 08/02/2009 21:23

There's some pud left but you better be quick, it's yummy

JW did your DD1 bring the plates back clean or dirty? Oh gawd, Valentines....already

Awww neddie got to say bye bye already...that's way too quick Liking the idea of cocoa and Empire....that's the equivalent to my hot choccy and Delicious mag!
I'm very lucky that my DP will do DIY as it's a bit of a busman's holiday. Our glass roof is the talk of the street!

Poor tee and the great wee wee saga of pregnancy. You're just at the point when the LO starts to discover trampolining on your bladder is Fun!

Ah - jw sweet little thing - it is good to hear of a happy ending - and yours will be too I'm just stunned to think Katherine and Verity will be one in May - it's shot round - feels so much quicker than with Iris. It's like I can see Verity catching up!

mum41 forgot to say...your pics are gorgeous - the boys are scrumpy and your girls are very beautiful indeed - they look very similar - are they near in age?

OK - contact lens are welding themselves to my eyeballs - I must go and free them!

duchesse · 08/02/2009 21:56

tee- you too, eh, with the vanishing Sunday afternoon? I thought I was reading "The Tenderness of Wolves" and when I woke up it half past five...

johnworf · 09/02/2009 09:02

Morning ladies.

JJ no plates back yet but promises of tonight drop off were issued last night.

Same here that can't believe that both Katherine and Verity will be 1 in May We're combing the sort of christening with hers so that it's all done in one go. It will be weird especially as she'll have two birthdays - like the queen - on September 14th when she becomes her corrected 1

mum41 Katherine was indeed born at 24 weeks, on holiday, in Cornwall. I'm planning to write a book about it all one day It involves Bruce Springsteen at Manchester airport, a full helicopter rescue team, ambulances a plenty and mobile incubators. Oh, and don't forget to throw in a caravan that had no mobile phone signal. Cue the Keystone cops DH already has the 'father of the bride' speech prepared and I'm sure there's not many that'll match up to this one!

johnworf · 09/02/2009 09:04

*combining.

Sorry, smelling mistakes a plenty this morning. In a rush and half asleep. No excuse I know.

BBL. Busy day ahead. TTFN

MUM41plus5 · 09/02/2009 09:29

Morning all

jw What can I say, I'm speechless, never new there was so many people that I would be pround to say I have met (if thats what you can call it on the net) I bet it will be one hell of a speech any ideas for book title yet?

Just done the school run, foggy here but at least dry, just popped in while waiting for ADT alarm man to service house alarm (bit worrying with all the news about increase in crime during recession)

Hope you're all well and weather not too bad where you are, I hear on the news some areas still really bad with snow and schools still closed

For all you career ladies logging on in your offices, think of us sahm probably with our hands and scrubbing brushes down a toilet

duchesse · 09/02/2009 09:30

< snigger >

Office, yes...

My "office" today is my bed. I work from home, and, well, it's raining hard.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 09:46

JW smelling mistakes? Heee

I wish I could work from my bed. Totally duchesse.

I am most uncomfortable this morning and had a stupid row with DH over whether or not he had a clean jumper. Any husbands secretly reading this board; do not give 21 week pregnant wife a hard time about clean jumpers when you can see she is having trouble even putting her shoes on because your baby is pushed so far forward today!!

Mostly my DH has been great, but sometimes....

mrsboogie · 09/02/2009 10:04

'ello all

You find me snivelling over my laptop today as Mr D has gone for his first full day at nursery and the realisation of me going back to work full time has just hit home. Am being maudlin and self indulgent and feeling gutted. Thought keeps popping into my head thqt I will only be a part time mummy from now on and other people who don't now how to look after my little man as well as I do will have him four days a week.

I am an idiot - I thought I would be skipping back to work after being bored for six months. But now all I can think is how much I will miss him and that he is too young to be separated from his mummy and I feel so guilty.

To top it all had a stupid row with OH last night as he was, unusually, acting like a selfish git and we went to sleep on a row which we never never do. So I couldn't even say any of this to him.

Right, now that I have dragged down the mood of the thread I will bugger off and try to make myself look human for the various appointments I have set up today.

duchesse · 09/02/2009 10:09

Oh Mrsboogie, don't give yourself a hard time. This is a difficult enough period for you. It's separation and you are going to grieve a little. After a few weeks, I'm willing to place bets on you being happy you went back to work though. It's the initial wrench that is so hard.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 10:13

Big cheesy internet hugs mrsb. I'm not even on maternity leave yet and I am dreading coming back to work.

mrsboogie · 09/02/2009 10:18

Thanks guys, I know, its just something that I have to get over and I wouldn't have wanted to stay home forever, but he's just so wee and young still.

hedgepig · 09/02/2009 10:22

MrsB it will be OK and he is with family most of the time at the start, please don't guilt trip yourself out (very hard I know).

Operation Ollie sleeping in his cot was a complete failure last night yawn yawn. OH well there is always tonight.

Tee that naughty baby getting in the way of your shoes, you may have to go for slip ons I'm afraid.

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 10:29

hedgepig they are slip ons! It was the socks I was having trouble with!

hedgepig · 09/02/2009 10:35

ahhhh so much for my brilliant idea, well it will be summer soon and you won't need socks or DH will have to put them on you

Eulalia · 09/02/2009 11:00

Hi all, thought I'd let you know I've had my first scan. Everything fine with the baby. Was all prepared for the worst but there it was wriggling away. Was worried there may be more than one in there (I am a twin) but just the one although I have a rather large ovarian cyst which is being checked out on Wed by the consultant. Now 13.5 weeks and thankfully at last the nausea is easing. However just getting over dreadful cold and tonsillitis. Managed to get out at the weekend to go sledging with the kids although quite a bit of sprinting between the older two and the youngest who just wanted to stay in the car as he was too cold. We told the kids who seemed pleased but forgot about it straight away. Youngest not really taken it on board though.

I don't know when people are due on this thread, or ages of babies etc. - I should take time to go through your profiles. I am just so far behind with everything after nearly 2 months of feeling ill the house is a tip.

Still not told my parents about the pregnancy - absolutely dreading telling my mother, in fact dh is going to do it for me!

jeanjeannie · 09/02/2009 11:15

Morning all. mrsB bless you - I can only begin to imagine how hard it must be - but I'm sure it's much harder for you than him! He's going to be absolutly dotted on and like hedgepig says - he's with family most of the time too. And just think - in a few months time he'll also have more people to run rings round and be an ultra-confident little boy

Eulalia I was thinking about you the other day - so pleased the scan was all fine and dandy - that's excellent news Love the act that the kids forgot about their new addition so quickly -well, sledging and snow was probably way more exciting I'm not preggie - I popped last May and now have 2 under 3 at 43...whah!

tee oh deary me - that sock malarky will only get worse! I remember DP having to wrestle on my boots with my howling as my feet and calves had swollen and he was trying to push in the skin while doing up the zip. Muffin top knees....never a good look!

ermintrude13 · 09/02/2009 11:18

Good news about your scan Eulalia. On this thread Tee and I are both due June, as is Daisy, Mum41 is earlier - 8 or 9wks? Duchesse is due August, not sure exactly about Neddie or hedgepig but they'll tell you! And there will be somebody I've missed out.

Why so worried about telling your mum though?! Are you sure that getting DH to tell her will make things worse? My mum would be livid if I 'worked through' DH, but then again she has only ever been overjoyed when her daughters have announced pregnancies. Hope her reaction is better than you expect.

mrsb You are not a part-time mum, you are his mother all the time, whoever's looking after him for you. If you like your job that will make things a lot easier, as you start to feel more stimulated and different bits of your brain kick in. And knowing he'll be nearby will be very comforting - hurrah for workplace nurseries!

Duchesse I did have to get up to take DS to school, but am now cosy and scruffy in my office. I love the slacker freelance life!

Tee2072 · 09/02/2009 11:23

Eulalia glad the scan went well! Always reassuring to see that wiggle worm in there.

I'm due 26th June with my first. Decided to not find out what the gender is, so will be a surprise in about 4 months. The grandparents are very unthrilled with this decision, but they'll get over it!
