We've now filled up the last thread - and the two before that! Seems that there are a lot of us old girls out there getting ourselves into trouble

So - if you've just found yourself to be with child or have a LO and you've hit (or about to hit - we'll let you sneak in just under the radar!)the big 4 0, then come say Hi!

There is always a spare comfy chair - plenty of cake and many old ladies to listen to your moans! Think of the lovely ladies knitting shreddies - only we're not sporting a blue rinse, but wearing cashmere and kitten heels

Hello regular ladies. I avoided putting FAT, F*cked or Knackered in the title - tempting as it was

New Thread!!! Wow! All this space to fill!!!

JJ Love the title though the Fat and Knackered one would have been(sadly) too appropriate for me..(have to pass on the F*ked as Dh is away again, he's taken next week off work however so we'll see if I can add myself to that list then) ... I deeply sympathise on the sleepless nights (though will admit A only had me up 12-1 and 3.45-4.30 before 6.30 wake up last night) but its because of the shockers that I dragged out that poem, to remind myself that it is a stage, it will pass...eventually....hard to remember when the last time I had 8, uninterrupted, hours was when they kept me in hospital 3 wks before he was born,ie 60 weeks ago!!!!. Hope your girls give you a chance to nap and catch up today.

JW hope all goes well at the eye hospital and you manage to steer K clear of all the germ beridden masses.

Portofino...update pretty please.

Tee It wasn't morning sickness that had you up at 5am was it?...mint tea and crystalised ginger did nothing for anyone else I know but it worked for me.

My lord and tyrant has just fallen asleep for his nap...we are having clocks gone back adjustment issues ... time for a shower methinks

Tee2072 · 28/10/2008 09:34

JW Flora Just up, no reason, no MS, just WIDE AWAKE at 4:45am.

I've been sleeping in our spare room because I keep doing this and that way if I wake up mega early I don't wake the OH. So this morning I wake up at 4:45, go to loo, head back to bed to try and go back to sleep...and walk into a wall, knocking a wooden mask off said wall to hit the tile floor with a CLANG! OH said it wasn't so much the clang that got him awake as the OH SHIT!

lilibet · 28/10/2008 10:11

Hello, I'm 46 next May and have just posted this on the 40+ TTC thread

I've had a positive this morning which is a bit of a shock and I feel stupid that its a shock.

Dh and I decided to 'try' until our holidays this summer which would mean that if it happened I would be 45 when the baby ws born.

I jsut couldn't get round to going having a coil fitted, it seemed very 'final' even tho I didn't want a baby at 46.

I'd taken up drinking again with a vengance , we have spent the money that would ahve gone on a garage conversion on a new car and i have jsut signed up for 12 months with a gym.

I am really in shock

someone talk to me?

johnworf · 28/10/2008 10:55

Ah Floria I'm waaaay ahead of you old girl. I've booked a private room at Eye Hospital. Ahem. Well, I rang ahead and told them we were simply not prepared to breathe the same air as the great unwashed and so we've our own side room. Basically I rang and told them K was still on O2 so we've got our own room where consultant (Mr Biswas again) will come to us! Pardee on I say.

lilibet I wouldn't worry too much. Things have a habit of falling into place. Ok, so you've got a new car; it can be changed or kept if it's suitable. And you haven't got a garage conversion. Well, babies aren't really that fussed at having their own room anyway...much rather snuggle in with mummy and daddy You might be able to cancel gym membership if you're still in the cooling off period (check contract) or alternatively go to the gym...they should tailor a work out for you given the circumstances.

Oh and btw...well done on your BFP! Hurrah! Another one joins our mightily exclusive club. You're in good company here

johnworf · 28/10/2008 10:55

Tee it's called getting in training for no damn sleep at all once LO arrives.

Ask JJ

FloriaTosca · 28/10/2008 11:10

lilibet Congratulations!!! Bound to happen once you have forgotten about trying and what difference does an extra year on your age make in the grand scheme of things?I hope you have a happy, smooth and uneventful 9 months.

JW Well done on the side room!!!! Hope Mr Tiswas flings no flans and has nothing but good news for you.

ladymac · 28/10/2008 11:12

I started typing this early this morning and finally posted it 5 minutes ago. And then I find you've moved house leaving me behind! So I'm copying and pasting it on to this lovely shiny new thread.

Goodness it's been all go on here. I'd like to tell you all the exciting things I've been doing instead of being on Mumsnet but it's just been the usual - family life. Oh, we did go and see the latest Coen brothers film on sat night. Well, I say sat night but in reality it was the 6.45 show as I would have fallen asleep during the later one. We even popped into our local on the way there where I had a pint of shandy and we shared a plate of antipasto. Very yummy.

The big excitement of sunday was rearranging the kitchen cupboards. Yes girls, try not to be too jealous DH helped me and I have to say he rather enjoyed tidying the overflowing tupperware drawer. Next week we're going to tackle our clothes mountain and as we only wear half of what's in the wardrobes we've decided to get rid of the offending 50%. We are ebay virgins but hope that we might be able to work out how to do it in order to earn a few extra pennies before xmas. Although I do love putting it all in a black bag and taking it to the charity shop.

We're hoping to do a job a weekend. We bought this house when I was 6 months pregnant so there was a lot of shoving things in to cupboards going on in order to make it habitable. Although it looks okay on the surface there is underlying chaos that needs to be sorted before no5 comes along.

Glad to see that most of you were like me when finally meeting Mr Right. DH and I were friends for quite a while before I got bored with him being polite. So I got drunk, phoned him up and told him I was naked and waiting for him to come and me That seemed to do the trick and here we are 4 and a half years later having bought a house, got married and with our second baby on the way!

ladymac · 28/10/2008 11:16

Oh dear, pasting has left out my smileys and 2 of the asterisks in the last paragraph. As obviously you'd be wondering what on earth I'd asked DH to come and do to me that was just 2 letters long. And of course there should be a heavily blushing smiley following my drunken attempts at being seductive!

ladymac · 28/10/2008 11:19

lilibet welcome. Try not to worry too much. If we all waited till conditions were ideal there would be very few children in the world. I too am 45 and will still be 4 months off my 46th birthday when i pop this one out. Do you have children already?

lilibet · 28/10/2008 11:22

So, tonight I have to tell dh

Actually he won't be happy that I have posted on here first but it was the

So, give me your opinions on this, I had a proper period that started the 1st Sept, a very slight bleed exactly four weeks later (it lasted less than 24 hours) and then I should have started again yesterday.

so four weeks or eight weeks?

and what am I supposed to do/not do, eat/not eat?

I already have a dd who wil be 20 in December, and two ds's, one is 15 and one will be 12 in November.

It's a very long time since I was inthis state

Tee2072 · 28/10/2008 11:34

JW I would accept that answer if I hadn't been sleeping this poorly for nearly a year!

Actually, the docs think I have fibromyalgia. I am waiting for my second appointment with Rhumotology, who knew I was trying, but I actually conceived the day of my appointment! I should be seeing them the beginning of December.

But at least I have lots of practice with sleep deprivation!

ladymac · 28/10/2008 11:41

Do you know when you might have conceived lilibet? The light bleed may have been an implantation bleed. Did you bd a couple of weeks before that?

Foods to definitely avoid are soft cheese such as brie and all the blue-veined ones. No liver and no pate (including vegetable ones). You're also supposed to avoid parma ham and salami because of the risk of toxoplasmosis but I had parma ham twice over the weekend cos I love it and a girl can only give up so much!

lilibet · 28/10/2008 11:45

No idea Ladymac (do I remember you from the 40+ TTC thread?).

If you had asked me this time last year, I could have given you chapter and verse on the state of my mucus, which day I was at and which night we had bd'd on

I'm very lucky I know when I had a period.

ladymac · 28/10/2008 11:46

Just to let you know I have upped the stakes on this whole cake business. I made some banana and sultana muffins yesterday (an amalgamation of about 3 different recipes) and had 2 and a half for breakfast this morning, thickly buttered. Am just about to polish off the remaining half now. Yum.

ladymac · 28/10/2008 11:50

Yes I am a graduate from the 40+TTC thread. I know what you mean, I was never off the Fertility Friend website. I guess you could ask for a early scan, that's probably the only way you'll find out how many weeks you are. They'll probably offer you one anyway as you're not sure of your dates.

mrsboogie · 28/10/2008 12:12

oh LOL ladymac I like your style although I had read your post on the old thread so I wasn't sat here wondering what exotic thing you wanted him to do to you that was only two letters long

I had a Very Naughty Boy on my hands last night (and, no, it was my OH) Darragh was awake almost continuously from 6pm yesterday and after feeding him at 1 we took him to bed. Would he sleep? would he buggery! After an hour of wide eyed rocking he demanded to get up and OH had to take him downstairs til 3am. And he was awake again at 5am for a feed and at 6am he was half awake making honking noises and farting like you wouldn't believe. And I had to be at the hospital for 8.30 for my GTT test

I am like the walking dead as a result. But not as bad as the OH who had to come home sick from work yesterday out of sheer exhaustion. There young 'uns - no stamina

lilibet - congrats and welcome! Just look at it this way - you can have a new car or a garage extension in two or three years time - but probably not a baby

jw good luck with Mr Biswas - and well done for demanding a private room! too flippin right!

lilibet · 28/10/2008 12:17

Sorry for all the questions, but can anyone tell me about tests?

ladymac · 28/10/2008 12:41

lilibet what kind of tests do you mean? And don't worry about asking questions. There's bound to be one of us with enough brain cells left to remember important stuff

lilibet · 28/10/2008 13:12

tests for abnormalities and downs

mrsboogie · 28/10/2008 13:22

well lilibet, you don't have to have any tests of course, its up to you. The nhs do a triple test at 16 weeks which looks at markers in your blood and will give you a risk factor when combined with your age for Downs and Edwards' syndrome. I personally went privately and had a nuchal thickness scan combined with a blood test which is supposed to be more accurate than the triple test and is also done at around 12 weeks which gives you more time to consider what to do if the results are not ideal.

If the risk factors are not acceptable to you, you can go for amnio or cvs on the nhs which have a small risk of miscarriage but will give you a definite answer.

I hope that is the kind of info you were after?

lilibet · 28/10/2008 13:26

could I be very impolite and ask how much it cost?

jeanjeannie · 28/10/2008 13:45

Wow - you lot have been busy - turn my back for a few hours and the thread is already on its way

Welcome Lilibet Aint it just the way....forget about it all - sign up for new gym membership then - boom! That's fab news - bet your DH will be shocked but thrilled. Wouldn't worry about the age thing....loads more important things to worry about in life other than that Cake - for example - now that is something to worry about....too little, too much...

The tests I had were the nuchal fold nest - had really bad odds (determined by a blood test and scan) so opted for a CVS (like an amnio but earlier) and all was OK mrsB has pretty much given the low-down. But it's all up to you.

JW hope all goes ok at the hospital. Private room with Mr Tiswas.....nice. Tidy I feel a red carpet should be laid out by lots of NHS elves bowing before you.

ladymac we are living parallel lives. We're tiding, contemplating ebaying stuff and planning to see the Coen bro new film! hahaha I reckon I'll need the matinee performance if I'm going make it to the end without falling asleep!

floria hope you got your shower! I hope I still have your ability to have a sense of humour if Verity continues like this
tee yep - sleepless preggie nights is an evil thing designed to get you used to it after the LO is here....Grrrrrrr

Now, would it be wrong of me to plough into the choccy store we've built up to fend of trick or treaters on Friday. Can I have one - can I, can I ....Please????!!!

OP posts:
ladymac · 28/10/2008 13:51

lilibet with this pregnancy we decided to go straight for the CVS which I had done when I was just over 11 weeks pregnant. This we did because of the high risk of Downs at my age. They scanned me at around 9 or 10 weeks to make sure my dates were correct as it cannot be done before 11 weeks. The consultant checked the nuchal measurement before she did the test. She told me that there was no more risk of mc than there would have been normally, taking in factors such as my age etc.

Where I live in London everybody is offered the nuchal test mrsb mentioned at 12 weeks. So of course you can have that done first then the CVS soon after if your results look remotely dodgy.

Amnio is not done till 16 weeks which I personally thought was was too long to wait.

jeanjeannie · 28/10/2008 13:53

lilibet my NHS trust (Bucks) now offer it free. But they've only just introduced it.

I paid £110 for the scan and bloods. That was with the consultant at the hospital.

I wish I'd known that the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley street was the same price as that is where the man who invented it works from. Not only that - but you can then pay (another another £175) to have the CVS done - there and then! No days of waitng. THe bloods and scan results come to you immediately! The bloods with this test are much less eratic than the triple test.

I had a horrid experience where my consultant left it too late to get the CVS (up to 14 weeks only) procedure booked in So, in panic we had to go into London - or it'd have been another long wait for an amnio. I had the man himself (prof Nickolidies) do it - he has the best rate for saftey pretty much worldwide and was worth every penny.

Still annoyed I paid my local consultant the same price as the man who invented it AND he forgot to book the follow up CVS which would have been free!

Where abouts are you?
