about Misse having to pay for a scan - grrr! My 10 week scan is the only thing that kept me (vaguely) sane.

Thanks for the comfort about my cysty baby - I am trying to be positive about it as I suspect (and fervently hope) that the whole thing will turn out to be a storm in a teacup. It won't grow and will be small in relation to a full term baby. In the meantime we will have lots of lovely scans but may well have hordes of medical students parading in to look at my "interesting" case . It doesn't necessarily mean I can't have a normal delivery, if it doesn't grow. I haven't even given up on the idea of a home birth just yet, though I will probably have to dig in my heels to get one . But all in all, it could be a lot worse.

Sticky thoughts all round!

ronshar · 17/09/2008 13:17

Stop talking about sneezing! I'll have you know I do my Pelvic floor exercises all the time.

daisyj · 17/09/2008 13:58

dan - I've just realised you meant telling that it's a girl, not that you are pg. Doh! See, told you I was knackered!

daisyj · 17/09/2008 14:16

maz32 ? waited three months, and then got pg first month of trying ? total shock as took 10 months first time. Everyone is different, of course, but I?m glad we waited and it does give you a chance to get your head together.

grinningbee - get excited, go on! I?ll get excited with you!

VillageMum - if it helps, my cousin lost her first baby at 40 and was pg again two months later. They had originally been trying for two years, and even had one (failed) cycle of IVF, but both there pgs were spontaneous conceptions. Bodies (even older ones are weird and wonderful things)

ladyhelen - fingers crossed for you, hon. Hope all OK. Will come back and check later.

lackadaisy - I always do my post on a Word doc and then cut and paste into the thread. Then I can flick between screens, which is easier than scrolling.

downbutnotout - don?t know if this helps, but my cousin?s baby had a huge (benign) cyst on her beautiful little face which they didn?t spot in utero and which shrank on its own until at around a year it had almost gone, and now (she?s four) there?s nothing there. I?m sure there many different kinds of cyst, but just thought I?d share that.

ronshar · 17/09/2008 14:27

Downbutnotout, I admire your spirit. We all spend so much time worrying about our babies growing etc it brings it all into perspective that until they actually get here and are all safe and well we can take nothing for granted.
I hope you enjoy all the extra scans I know I would love just one more so I get to see my baby in silence before the noise starts.

ladyhelen2 · 17/09/2008 16:36

Hello. Just back from scan. Big sigh of relief. COuld see a heartbeat and it was dated at 6+5 which is exactly where I thought I would be from the date of my lasat AF. Because I am seeing a recurrent miscarriage specialist, she will scan me EVERY WEEK!!!!! Have decided not to have one next week but will do at 8 weeks onwards. FIngers crossed I get that far. I've not even googled my EDD yet. I don't want to tempt fate.

downbutnotout gosh what a situation to be in. I hope everything will be ok and you know you will be getting extra special attention. Stay positive.

SesHasapinkline · 17/09/2008 17:12

Hello ladyhelen2 That's great news! You must be v relieved.
You're only a few days ahead of me (from my calculations!) I have my first scan booked for 1st October.

VillageMum · 17/09/2008 17:34

Thanks so much daisyj!! Every crumb of hope helps right now. Thought I was over the bleeding from my D&E last week but it seems to be starting up again, depressingly, just when I hoped things were on the up. Fingers crossed it's just spotting...

FlossieF · 17/09/2008 18:57

Hello everyone!

Well it is scan day tomorrow. Quite nervous but also optimistic. Keeping fingers and toes crossed that the optimism is well-founded. I've been optimistic three times before, and look where that got me!

Anyway, dug out one of last years winter suits to wear for work today, and boy are the trousers tight! Had to undo the zip half way through the day because the digging into to my middle was making me feel really sick. Came quite close to hurling all over my new computer. IT would not have been amused.

Looking on the bright side, feeling fat and sick gives me hope that all is progressing, but I'll soon find out! Will keep you all posted.......

VillageMum - sorry to hear about your MC. If the bleeding gets to be more than spotting, you might want to go back for a scan to check they cleared it all out. Not wishing to alarm you, but it took three D&Cs to get rid of all the products from my first pg, and restarting of the bleeding alerted them to the fact that the second hadn't worked. (They realised the first hadn't worked when I was admitted to hospital with a raging temperature, but that's another story...) That is very very very unusual though......

maz32 · 17/09/2008 19:48

thanx all ur info, as my hubbie pointed out we actually have to have sex to conceive a baby!!xx

missEdith · 17/09/2008 19:53

hello again I knew going to the doctor would set me off so have been all emotional about what is or is not in my womb
might just book that private scan I can't bare the thought of going in for the nuchal at 12wks and there being no baby, not the first for me

ladyhelen2 great news so please for you

flossie best of luck for tomorrow

downbutnotout · 17/09/2008 20:01

Thanks all and daisyj, that does help - here's hoping this cyst is the vanshing kind!

Congrats ladyh and good luck flossie.

Don't blame you MissE though still think it seems so unfair you have to pay.

cece · 17/09/2008 20:53

waves hello to ronshar - how many days/weeks now? and goingfor3 ladyhelen2 good news about the scan

downbutnotout What a positive attitude. You are right though there are many things worse that could happen.

flossie good luck for tomorrow.

missEdith I had to pay for my nuchal with DS in 2003. In a new area now and I got the combined test (bloods and nuchal) for free here with my pg last year. It does seem unfair that some get it and some have to pay.

This time though, if I get to 12 weeks, I don't think I will have it done. Last year I had a high risk result. I didn't want to risk amnio or CVS so all the stress it added to me seemed a bit pointless.

This time there is no way I would have an amnio or CVS so it seems pointless to add stress to an already stressful pg to me. Not sure DH will agree though!

I now have a booking appointment sorted for the 15th Oct. Will be 9 weeks, if I get that far... Still waiting for consultant's secretary to phone with regards to my first scan. She is off sick apparently! Poor woman but I do feel imaptient to sort it out...

So far I have had two days of knicker checking and I am already frightened to go to the loo! Anyone else like this?

VillageMum · 17/09/2008 21:23

FlossieF thank you, I will do that if the bleeding gets worse. Can't quite tell what's going on. After the D&E I bled lightly for a day, then it stopped. No cramps, no pain at any stage. Now, 7 days later, I noticed a bit of black blood this morning which I at first though was old trapped blood coming down, but has since turned browny red. It's not that heavy, but it feels like a fresh flow. Could it be a last bit of tissue coming loose and being expelled? Or the result of hormones trying to resettle themselves? Still no pain of any sort. Sorry if TMI but would appreciate any insights... I have a follow-up on the 26th with consultant who did the D&E, but he is off on holiday till then...

missEdith crossing fingers for your scan... I've been there too.

mm1509 · 17/09/2008 22:02

Ladyhelen - Fantastic news, hope your extra scans give you more confidence.

Flossie - Good luck for tomorrow, I'll be thinking about you, keep us posted on how you get on.

Villagemum - Hope you are doing ok and the bleeding settles down soon. Many of us have been there so keep posting anytime you need that's what we are here for.

Thanks for the messages at the moment I just feel in limbo, not too sure what to feel until I get my scan. The scan is booked for next Tuesday to at least this time next week we will know where we stand. I think this will be a long, long week.

missEdith · 18/09/2008 09:03

good morning all

Villagemum as far as I recall I did not bleed much after the ERPC but the first period about 6wks later was huge, scary huge for the first hr then settled t a normal one.

good luck with all the scans

was talking to dh last night and decided to wait until next week, if still no bleeding I will call to book a viability scan privately. I can't make it to 12wks without knowing

am completely shattered today, dd has a cough and cold and was spluttering all night, will take her to pre school busy self before we both curl up on the sofa I think

VillageMum · 18/09/2008 09:07

mm - thanks. Phoned the hospital (my dh is away and he more or less ordered me to!)and was told that because it's not bright red this sounds like retained blood that's only coming down now.
I tested negative for pg (on home preg test) yesterday for the first time since the D&E, so hope this means all tissue really was removed (surely body would still think it was pregnant and be producing preg hormone if some tissue remaining?)
If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful...

VillageMum · 18/09/2008 09:10

And thanks missEdith too. I know this can't be a period yet because it's too soon... just hoping it's not a re-bleed or trapped tissue! The joys of the first AF are still to come.

missEdith · 18/09/2008 09:11

I think if you have pain, the discharge smells odd or you have a high temperature you should really see a doctor, maybe start a thread for specific advice?
I did not experience it like that but it may well be normal

sorry I can't help more I know it is worrying you

SesHasapinkline · 18/09/2008 09:12

Hi VillageMum! I had a mmc followed by ERPC in April. Bled for about 10 days afterwards but only first 3-4 days was it really heavy. I never did a hpt to ensure a negative.
A month later, was feeling tired and weeing lots so did a hpt and it was +ve. Still positive a week later and no AF so I went to my GP who said if still +ve in another week to get a scan.
The scan couldn't show whether I'd had another mmc or whether it was still retained product from an incomplete ERPC first time round. Result was a second ERPC after which they scanned me to ensure everything was clear and I got a -ve result on a hpt 2 weeks later.

Don't know if that helps but it's just my experience. I would say that a -ve hpt sounds v good.

VillageMum · 18/09/2008 09:26

Thanks missEdith - no pain, smell or fever, so not too worried yet (!) But I will keep an eye on it, especially if it starts to look fresh. Holding thumbs for your scan.
Seshasapinkline - So sorry for your loss. I'm hoping that negative hpt is reassuring news too, and proves that the good ole nurse in the hospital knows what she's talking about!

FlossieF · 18/09/2008 14:26

Just a quick one to say - it's alive and wriggling! I'm official 9+3.

Next time you hear from me I'll either be in Germany or China!

daisyj · 18/09/2008 16:15

Yay Flossie - great news. Have a good trip wherever you're going!

I've just posted this elsewhere but though you ladies would understand: Here's a little thing that makes me smile every time I think of it: being referred to as 'the mother' on a scan-related document (can't remember which one) the other day. After an mc (if it's your first) I think you kind of feel that you are in limbo in that respect (neither a mother nor precisely not a mother), and somehow just reading those words made it feel more official

mm1509 · 18/09/2008 16:43

Brilliant news Flossie, now you can really start to believe.

dan39 · 18/09/2008 19:06

Great stuff flossie!! mm I do feel for you - was wondering when your ten year day wait would end as I was driving back from work tonight! Tue will seem a long way off but will come. I have a scan too on tue so will think of you. How are things at the mo?

daisyj I still can't cope with the mother thing - I can't een bring myself to buy wipes in case I don't need to use them!! I get a little thrill then I make it go away again!

Hi ses how are you doing?

missedith good plan re the private scan - I would have gone utterly bonkers had I had to wait for the 12 wek scan with chance of same news again. Being able to pay for the reassurance is so good, IMHO.

Still feel really sore and bruised inside, bit worriedbut telling myself am just paranoid. My midwife is a bit rubbish by the ooks of things, rang her yesterday and she hasn't got back to me yet.
