herb my scan at 8 weeks measured 5 days smaller than my dates (done by the consultant) and today the baby is spot on for my dates so I do think early scans can be less accurate.

Before I get on the plane to Barbados...

I'm now worried sick about having another mmc! Does anyone know any reassuring stats? Am I more likely to have one if I have already had one in the past?

Heeeeeeelp!

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 06/11/2008 09:15

Morning Sussex. Don't know any stats but I had mmc in April and all seems ok for me - 12 week scan fine last week and now 13+4.
IKWYM though and I still have my hours moments of worry. There is nothing I know of to suggest you'll have problems. I was still getting full blown sickness with my mmc and many people said to me that that was so unusual and sooo unlikely to happen again.

Sorry - think I've rambled now...!

SparkyMalarky · 06/11/2008 10:09

yay to Barbados

Great news Herby - i found some stats on the miscarriage association site after my early scan which said much the same thing - seeing a good heartbeat is a great sign

Grrr to rubbish midwives daisies. I have a great GP (and several less great ones) so I try to see her if possible - she got me the early scan after 1 m/c as I was beside myself at my doctors appt. But sometimes, a bending of the truth (or going private) has to be required.

ses let me know if the doppler is a success. I had one of those rubbish cheap things that you strap round your tummy and put on headphones to listen to DS's heart when I was PG with him, but it didn't really work until way after 20 weeks.

Am so pleased for everyone else with successful scans...and sussex enjoy the sickness

Scan in 80 mins. Will hopefully have good news to report back later.

herbaceous · 06/11/2008 10:25

The problem I have is that during my last two pregnancies I saw good heartbeats up to 10 weeks, and they were both lost. I know this is highly unusual, but it means that comforting statistics have a limited effect on me.

I was that 0.5% that has trisomy 13 in a girl, not dying until 11 weeks, for example.

But surely karma can't be so much of a bastard that this one won't work out...

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 06/11/2008 10:35

Herby - you definitely deserve some good karma. What has happened to you is highly unusual and there is a v good chance that everything is fine this time.

Sparky - hope everything goes well with your scan. Will let you know about the doppler.

TMD · 06/11/2008 12:21

Hi all, just popped in to see how you all are. I had a doppler to use throughout my pregnancy after mmc first time round and found it verrrrrry reassuring, plus my husband got to join in with the experience too. I think my local paper advertised it in mother baby section, we checked it worked first, but I'm pretty sure ebay do them too. Think I'll def get another one this time round as lent it out to friends and never got it back but glad it got plenty of usage. Well no menstral bleeding yet but getting achy tummy and boobs starting to twinge, we have been trying but not at it like rabbits as hubby been working long hours so both quite nackered. Keep you posted xxxxx

maz32 · 06/11/2008 13:21

hi everyone, just book nuchal scan thing again, last time just booked then started bleeding, so hopefully havent tempted fate again?!x

sussexoldspot · 06/11/2008 13:29

Thank you, ses - that was actually quite reassuring

IKWYM, maz - Both of my mcs have begun within 12 hours of making an initial appt. with the midwife . Wishing you lots of luck this time round.

TMD good luck with the old TTC there - totally empathise with you on the tiredness

dan39 · 06/11/2008 13:54

Ooh Sparky where are you - let us know how you get on!
Herby of course you are due some karma. It does happen more than once (myy sis had two then a successful pg) but it is unusual and unlucky, statistically (Don't know figures tho) but we know that mics themselves are rare and we all still get them! In an ideal world we would all think positive (cos its good for us and the bean) but be cautious too - plan for the worst, hope for the best kind of thing?

Its the getting past the anniversarry of the last one intially, THEN its getting past all the other milestones too. I think that for me, and also for everyone lese who has shared experiences on here. With every day it remains in there and growing, the stats improve on it working out.

I think dopplers are good if you can get 'em to work - I actually didn't get one after much deliberation, as I had a '14 week midwife didn't find it immediately and I nearly had a heart attack' experience, so I thought it best not to! Went to see lovely GP almost every week instead til around 18 when I felt it move.

sussexoldspot · 06/11/2008 14:05

sparky, what news? Did everything go OK?

roque how are you?

Hi, quick catch up as have to get DD to rehearsal in 10mins.

dan that's a shame you say you're a technophobe - I was going to nominate you for the next thread .

Thanks snoop (still Jules in my head). I googled and found some on ebay so I'm going to order one from your recommendation tonight when I come back. I was reassured MW at daycare found FH immediately on Mon and am now over 16wks so hopefully will find it. (I did train as a midwife about 5yrs ago but haven't practised - may come in handy!). Community MW sounds stressed (baby boom round here) so don't think the 2wkly reassurance appointmnents are to continue so it's self help now.

sparky hope you are OK. x

Right got to dash ........

maz32 · 06/11/2008 16:09

thanx sussexold spot, will just have 2 wait and see, i feel sick from the minute i open my eyes til i go to sleep so suppose i know the hormones are going mad!? it feels like a long way til mid june!x

maz32 · 06/11/2008 16:12

sussexoldspot ps i was told that if you one mmc it doesnt increse your risk n e more than the average woman, but dont know if that was the madwife trying to stop my hysteria?!x

roquefortlover · 06/11/2008 16:21

Hello all. Good to see you back sussex - try not to stress too much - not long till that next scan!

herb you are certainly due some good luck so I am sending you some over the pc...

sparky hope all went OK!

Well, I started having bad cramps last night and full on red bleeding all day today so at least I now know where I am. I have had a bad feeling about this one tbh so not surprised to mc and in a way it's almost a relief to know ( sorry if that sounds callous).

We had always planned to take a couple of months off ttc between now and the New year as the timing next year would be very bad, so at leats i don't feel we are "losing" any time. We will still do that and then rethink - I am not sure any more that we will carry on, at the moment I feel like pg inevitably=mc not baby so we might just decide to be content with our lovely 3 dcs.

You have all been so lovely to me on this thread and I wish you all the luck in the world for successful and uneventful pregnancies - you really are a fantastic bunch!

sussexoldspot · 06/11/2008 16:41

Oh roque, I am so sorry. Will miss you here and send huge hugs across Sussex.

rofl at your madwife, maz and thank you for the reassuring words.

dan39 · 06/11/2008 16:46

roque so, so sorry to hear about the bleeding. you sound very calm and sorted,. just make sure you get the support you need though - don't 'cope' too much if it gets bad! It might still be ok, let us know - don't disappear yet!

Herby I wanted to apologise as I just looked again and you did say you had already had 2 mmc - so sorry I missed that bit. But as I say my sis had two in a row and now she has a gorgeous noisy 3 year old. One day at a time...!

maz enjoy that sickness!

scotlass 16 weeks already - where did the time go??!!

SparkyMalarky · 06/11/2008 17:09

Hello

First - Roque am so sorry hon, and as dan says, can't believe how calm you sound. Make sure you get lots of rest and looked after..and keep us posted.

Herby - sorry too, had meant to be helpful and I should have paid more attention to your earlier posts (must not speed read so much ). You DEFINITELY deserve some some incredible karma so will keep everything crossed and sending extra sticky thoughts your way.

As for us - ALL GOOD! perfect size, wouldn't give us any info from the nuchal but according to the piece of paper we got it looks to be about on the 50% percentile, so will have to wait for the results from the blood tests to be sure...scanner wasn't too worried as we were in and out in 10 minutes. Soooo relieved!

sussex and maz - how's the MS today? managing to eat much?

can't stop smiling

dan39 · 06/11/2008 17:14

Thank god for that!! I was getting worried!! Smile on!! (I am going away for the weekend in a min and was frantically checking on how it went before I left!

herbaceous · 06/11/2008 17:32

Hooray for sparky. And so sorry Roque - I know what you mean about it being a relief, but when you start feeling down, you know where to come!

Dan and sparky - no reason why you should know my intimate history. But yes - four miscarriages in total in the past three years. Two 'complete' (6 and 10 weeks) and two missed (11 and 13 weeks, both of which had OK scans beforehand).

Karma owes me big time!

Wheelybug · 06/11/2008 18:14

So sorry roque. Look after yourself and your family. I hope you're back here soon after your break if that's what you decide to do.

Glad all went well Sparky.

Waves at Gilly - hope things aren't being too trying atm ?

Waves at everyone else - big scan day tomorrrow here (quake).

maz32 · 06/11/2008 18:52

hi sparkymalarky that the problem, i feel sick so force myself to eat feel better for few moments, puck then back to square one!!pleased your scan went well.xx

ladylush · 06/11/2008 18:54

Sorry roque Take good care of yourself
I'm a bit down as my G.P is not being very helpful wrt my thyroid problem (due to ignorance rather than anything else) and I am worried it may impact on the pregnancy.
Ronshar - many congrats to you So pleased for you xx
Herby - glad the scan went well . Agree - estimate of dates by size not an exact science.
