Thanks for your messages Ronny & Bunny, Ronshar I can't believe how quickly the time seems to have gone How old is your little one now? 4 weeks? I can't keep up with you all

As for us, we have finally got the all clear to ttc - from everyone apart from my acupuncturist but we have decided to leave it to fate, it's over 6 months since Thomas was born and we'd had enough of waiting and being careful. So as of last night () it's all systems go!!
Really hoping to be able to join you all here (properly) soon.

Herby I'll be back lurking this afternoon to see how you get on Really glad to hear you're feeling positive - sending sticky thoughts

LoobyLou36 · 05/11/2008 13:11

thanks for the advice TMD

SparkyMalarky · 05/11/2008 13:32

looby (and others!) meant to say - have checked and M & P do mat trousers in short length which is 28" if that's any good to you? They obviously have jeans too....

Hopefully this link will work trousers

Their mail order was pretty good for nursery furniture when we got some for DS but haven't tried for clothes - alternatively, there are a few shops about...

daisyj · 05/11/2008 13:32

Hi all. Can I have a rant?

Haven't felt the baby move since yesterday afternoon, and when I phoned community midwives office to ask if I should be worried the mw I spoke kept saying, 'Well it is very unusual to be feeling strong movements before 22 weeks'. Yes, that's as maybe, but since I have been feeling the baby since 16 weeks and movements have been strong enough for DH to feel on the outside for the past two weeks, I am clearly 'very unusual'. The point I kept trying to make to her was that it was a change to the pattern I was worried about, not simply the fact of not feeling the baby. Silly woman. Will now have to wait till late tonight to use doppler (which when I mentioned it she said 'we don?t' recommend that people use those - we can listen to the baby for you'). Yes, but not on tap, whenever I'm concerned.

Don't know who she was (not my mw) and I was very calm when speaking to her, not in tears as had been for half an hour earlier, so maybe she just didn't get how worried I was... I thought she was pretty stupid and patronising, though. And clearly not actually listening to a word I was saying.

Can anyone reassure me that not feeling the baby for a day or so is OK?

It's amazing isn't it how no matter how confident and calm you think you feel, it only takes a tiny chink in the armour for all the fears to come flooding in.

SparkyMalarky · 05/11/2008 13:33

ps - Kate good news on the TTC. Fingers crossed you'll be here to stay soon...

daisyj · 05/11/2008 13:53

Ooops, update, baby wriggling! Phew!

Oh, and yay to Kate for ttc everything crossed for you and babydust your way. x

daisy5 · 05/11/2008 14:17

Totally with you there daisyj - I cannot bear that it is so hard to get a reassuring scan in the first 12 weeks when you feel something has gone wrong, and have a miscarriage history.
Last pregnancy, when I thought I was about to miscarry I went to A&E and listed the 50million logical reasons why it had all gone wrong, and I just got asked the same questions by 5 different people - spending ages each time going over my medical history each time - it was agonising. Then they just very patronisingly said that I was just getting myself worried and it probably was all fine. I just said 'it's clearly not all fine' and had to go private to prove that it wasn't at all right. They didn't listen to me, just followed their standard 'forms' and if my case didn't tick their 'danger' boxes then they didn't want to know about it.

So this time around I did a terrible thing and lied two weeks ago - I had lost all symptoms for five days and was worried so went to hospital and said I'd had bleeding so that they would have to scan - luckily this time it was ok. Now I am 9+3, I'm back to not sleeping and having awful nightmares and breathing difficulties etc, and would just love to have another one to get me through to my 11+5 nuchal. I feel I could keep my head together if I could just have a 2 minute scan every two weeks until 13 weeks. I wonder if I should buy a machine (like the Cruises did) and then get my money back by offering 5 min scans for £5 a pop???

Sorry for the long rant. My usually calm rational sensible self has been replaced by a tired stress monster.

daisyj · 05/11/2008 15:46

Oh, daisy, grrrr for you. Amazing how everyone else knows best, isn?t it? I can?t remember if you were on the thread at that point, but I had an early (private) scan at 8+3, felt reassured for, ooh, five minutes and then had a huge panic the following week and ended up having another scan on the NHS at the local EPU, organized by lovely midwife who happened to be the person I got on the end of the phone the day I phoned up almost hysterical as I had pretty much hallucinated spotting. She stretched the truth for me - I know this because when I got there they had on their form that I?d been having pain and bleeding. Sometime if ya gotta lie, ya gotta lie .

I think someone was saying here the other week that they had been basically told ?if you?re not bleeding you?re fine?. Err, well, I think we all know that?s not necessarily true. D?ya think if men carried the babies they?d get dismissed so quickly?

Lol at you offering scans to subsidise your ?habit? though. I can promise that, despite my anxiety today, time does start to go a bit quicker once you?re out of the first trimester. Hang in there, lady, and come and unleash your inner stress monster whenever you need to. At least you didn?t cry all over your dentist and his receptionist this morning . Known them for ages and they were lovely, but still mortifying!

Wheelybug · 05/11/2008 16:05

daisyj - I'm due a couple of weeks before you I think. I too have been feeling the baby since early on (about 15 weeks IIRC) so am a freak too ! DH has been able to just about feel movement too.

Anyway, I have days when I don't feel much movement (and I have internal panics on those days and wish the time away) and days when it feels like there is a party going on. Its a cliche but definitely if you are busier you won't feel as much and if you are walking around a lot the movement can lull the baby off to sleep apparently. Also I guess it makes sense (if one is able to rational about these things... ha ha) that if its had a period of real activity it is going to be quieter for a bit.

Another point is that at this stage the baby is moving positions a lot and it may be you are feeling movements when the baby is certain positions than others and maybe it was trying out a different position.

Phew... Have almost convinced myself now.

cece · 05/11/2008 16:19

circri - congratualtions!

roque - that sounds like a very sensible plan.

swaliswan - great to hear FHB

kate - yeah

herb - hope scan went well.

I had my scan this afternoon. All well and they have brought my date forward to coincide with my dates again so I am now further on than I thought! So 12+2 weeks now and a due date of 18th of May.

The only downside was DH being a bit stroppy with me as I didn't have the nuchal done. But hey at least I am happy and stress free!

Hello girls

Back from scan, and all appears to be well! She found a heartbeat straight away - well, after she'd navigated lots of 'intestinal gas' - and she said 'perfect'.

For 6+6 it was a bit small at 6mm, which has of course thrown me into a panic, as the ones that MCed were also small and thus duff, but combining the fact that I have 31-day cycles, so have three days in hand, and measuring at this stage is not an exact science, I'm going to try not to worry.

I've been here before, twice, with no positive outcome, but must try and stay positive, and cling on the statistics that once a heartbeat is seen chances of a positive outcome increase lots.

The hospital is being very good, and want to see me each week!

scotlass · 05/11/2008 18:47

Excellent news about your scan cece, I'm so pleased.

Anyone have any suggestions about an online doppler hire company that is good? I'm thinking I am going to hire one for a couple of months until the baby is bigger and I feel movements all the time. I too have had movement the last week or two but am still stressing

sussexoldspot · 05/11/2008 18:53

Hello, all!

herbaceous so pleased to see you here!

roque am still keeping everything crossed for you. We're just back from a lovely weekend in Lincs today - it was DS's 2nd birthday on Monday, so it was a great excuse to get everyone together for a do, even though he slept all the way through it!

Things still seem OK here. Am starting to feel very queasy and rough now (I think I'm coming up to 9 weeks, EPU thinks I'm nowhere near that yet). Hoping this is a good sign, but am totally paranoid about mmcs, blooming things. Started having pains at 8+5 with mmc at Christmas, so am on tenderhooks until EPU scan on Monday. Luckily, have a busy rest of week and weekend to keep me occupied. At least if I do mc this time, we have a private fertility clinic appt. on 22nd Nov, so we can roll straight into that if necessary

Hope you are all OK out there.

sussexoldspot · 05/11/2008 18:54

Wonderful news on scan, herbaceous - fingers crossed for you, too.

herbaceous · 05/11/2008 19:06

I've been googling (I know, the source of madness) and found this comforting info:

Once a gestational sac has been documented on ultrasonographic scanning, subsequent loss of viability in the embryo will occur in 11.5% of pregnancies. After the embryo attains a CRL of 5 mm, the probability of subsequent loss falls to 7.2%. The loss rate drops rapidly thereafter to 3.3% for embryos with a CRL of 6 mm to 10 mm and to 0.5% for embryos with a CRL of 10 mm or more (ie, 5 weeks postovulation or 7 weeks after the last menstrual period).

Wheelybug · 05/11/2008 19:12

good news on the scans Cece and Herby !

Herby - I had a scan at 7 weeks exactly and was measuring a bit smaller than it should be. I had a very nerve wracking 3 weeks and at 10 weeks it was measuring exactly 3 weeks bigger so conclusion was that my dates were about 3 days behind. 3 weeks later at 12 week scan (I was actually 13 weeks) I was measured as only 1 day behind. Anyway, the point of my wibbling is that it is v. difficult to get an accurate idea at this stage - especially as a day means quite a change in size/development. Having seen a heartbeat is great news - hopefully you can take some comfort from that. I am pleased your EPU are being so attentive too.

Sussex - glad you're feeling ill . I too had a fertility consultant appointment when I would have been 12 weeks and I refused to cancel it until right at the moment just in case. Am hoping you will have to cancel yours too.

herbaceous · 05/11/2008 19:20

Ooh wheely - that makes me feel better.

Before the scan I was in a happy state of denial crossed with positive thinking. Now I'm worrying about every possible permutation of what it could all mean.

I think there's a gap in the market for a nice residential home for post-MC ladies in the first trimester to go and be sedated until their 12-week scan. I would pay handsomely for such a facility.

sussexoldspot · 05/11/2008 19:32

Thank you for those queasy vibes, wheely! I did speak to the Consultant's secretary a week or two ago and she suggested we did exactly that, in the hope that Sod's Law would apply.

herbaceous, I would also pay for such a service. Especially if it were somewhere like Barbados. Or Cornwall, even.

bunnyinheadlights · 05/11/2008 19:54

hee hee herby totally agree with what you say about a residential home for post MC ladies - i would be a star resident there!! in fact if they could keep me sedated until baby arrives, that will be even better! i hope wheely's post gave you some comfort - at least there's a fhb and the size thing hopefully will correct itself in the next scan.

i am trying to take heed of what ronny (waves to ronny) says about not accepting the pg until after 5 mths and therefore losing out on the joys of being pg. even now at 6mths, i still tell people i am fairly early on when they ask and they look at me like i am bonkers!

cece congrats on the good 12 week scan always good to measure right for dates and see fhb - although i am conscious that 18 weeks is a big date for you and will continue to send you lots of positive healthy baby dust.

roque how are you?

kate let the TTC begin!! that's fab news - here's to lots of baby dust to you and dh. how are you doing emotionally otherwise - are you feeling ok? i remember your first anniversary mc date was very close to mine as well.

all this talk about getting doppler is making me want to get one too - love daisy5's idea of renting out the scanning machine!

bunnyinheadlights · 05/11/2008 19:57

just noticed that i was dropped off the list from cece's last update, so updating again (and also updating ses's dates)

Thanks bunny

Congrats herby ! Again can I join the "sedate women who've had previous mc group"??! I'm nearly out of 1st trimester but still worrying...

Congrats to cece too!!

scotlass - I've just ordered myself a doppler from babymad.com. It seemed just as cheap to buy one as rent one as I got one for £25.99. It should arrive by Monday. Just hope I don't struggle to find hb now...

Sparky - thanks, I'm doing ok. It is good that they're monitoring my thyroid - just hope it starts to move in the right direction!

dan39 · 05/11/2008 20:19

Sign me up for the residential home too - my vote is with Barbados...

Brill re the scan herby - stay positive!Ans cece. And Ronny is right, it kinda goes by in a haze of worry, I am nearly 7 months and am obly just believing it... KInd of jealous of those who get excited from the beginning and are able to enjoy the whole thing.

Nice to see the list being updated again - well done everyone!! Now we just need a volunteer for new thread which will be a week or so away... (me? no I am a techno idiot!)

lizzie9442 · 05/11/2008 20:26

I had a doppler in my pregnancy with my little girl and it was so good really put my mind at rest. When ever I felt worried I would just listen to my baby. I rented one for a couple of months from when I was about 14 weeks. I would recommend these to anyone.

LoobyLou36 · 05/11/2008 20:35

I vote Barbados for the residential home too
