I'm due on 17th Sept. with baby no.2. We had the 20 wk scan everything was fine, mind you I don't know how you can tell if boy or girl on the scans I can never work it out! They are not very keen on telling you what the sex is here, it seems if you have a scan late on i.e 30wks plus they will tell you.

When I went to antinatal classes with ds1, they told someone they were having a girl, so she bought all pink things - turned out to be a boy!! Poor kid, he's going to grow up with a complex.

I felt movement and kicks with this one from 12wks and it's very active. Mind you the braxton hicks started at about 17wks (I never had them with ds1!).

Any way hubby champing at the bit to get to the computer, it's a nightmare to get on the computer!!

PS take the holiday, you'll enjoy it!

Oakmaiden · 19/06/2003 10:45

We're not awfully chatty on tis thread, are we? How is everyone? All OK?

Very exciting - although I have been feeling the baby move for a few weeks now, yesterday (at 23 weeks+) it kicked me when I prodded my tummy. So I moved my hand and it kicked me again. And I could feel it from the inside AND with my hand - a sudden little bulge! It was a very exciting moment!

fattiejojo · 19/06/2003 11:21

Oakmaiden, I'm at the same stage (well, 24+5 weeks) and had the very same lovely baby moving experience at 23 weeks ...great init!!!

Brookstone · 19/06/2003 15:28

hi, can i butt in here? i'm due on the 7th oct. 24+2 today and am delighted have my baby keeping me company all day long with it's kicking. aren't some of the kicks really cheeky? some times it kicks like a cute baby and then other times it kicks with attitude! i have a good laugh when that happens. hope you are all keeping well and getting nicely fat.

Oakmaiden · 19/06/2003 18:47

Hello Brookstone waves.

It is funny - this is my no2, but I really wasn't showing at all until 21 weeks, when we went on holiday - I swear it, we set off in the morning (from the South Coast) and my tummy was flat (well, as flat as it gets - pudgy but not obviously pregnant) and by the time we drove to Cumbria I had a bump. And all of a sudden I look like I am about to pop any minute (hate to think how big I am actually going to get!)

On the happy side, Ilost 5lbs in the first 3 months, and only seem to have put 2 back on so far. i have a LOT of reserves, though!

Bekki · 22/06/2003 18:41

Hi everyone I'm 29 weeks now and i feel like I'm actually getting somewhere now. For months my mum has told me not to get the babies room ready, don't buy this or that but now apparently its o.k. So I'm getting very excited although most people seem to comment on how huge i am, how uncomfortable I must be in the heat and oh my goodness you've got 3 months left! I'm not a great lover of the heat at the best of times so the prospect of another 11-13 weeks in this weather is incredibly daunting and I just want to hibernate until September. Is anyone else suddenly remembering parts of labour and the first few weeks with your baby that really you wish you'd forgotten? Its almost as if my body repressed all negative aspects of motherhood to enable me to get pregnant again only to worry me with them at 6 months of pregnancy.

ANGELMOTHER · 23/06/2003 00:25

Hi Bekki, yes I remember someone saying once how there must be some gene which makes us forget all the bad stuff so that we go right ahead and do it again.

Personally I now recall saying I would NEVER EVER be pg during the Summer again and well we've all seen the weather

Apart from growing bigger and heavier everyday all is well, whatever muscle problems I had earlier are now gone, but I really should have shares in Gaviscon at this stage.

Must say am not looking forward to August, dd off school and unless I pass my bl*y driving test we may be stuck indoors.

On the plus, this one will definitely be a dancer. DD is getting very excited about having a sister esp after I brought home the moses basket etc which I picked up at the NCT sale.
DD is insisting her sister sleeps in the same room as her...

Hope everyone else is well

Hi everyone, I,m due 17 Sept, it's nice to see that there are other people out there going through the same as me!

I have spent the last 2 wks getting the baby cloths washed and packed away and making sure we have everything. I don't know what's wrong with me I'm never this organised!! I just want it all done by August, just in case the weather is mega hot and I'm not able to deal with it!

Oakmaiden · 23/06/2003 09:18

I got all my baby clothes down from the loft last week too. Washed them, and hung them on the line to dry in the sunshine - and had an inexplicable urge to cry over them. NO idea why....

jeweleee · 25/06/2003 12:23

Hello peeps, I'm new to this site, just joined today. I'm due on 19th October (currently 23 weeks pregnant) with our first baby, we've found out it's a boy! and we're very excited! I'm hoping to make some new friends via this site.

crazynow · 25/06/2003 19:20

Jeweleee, welcome to mumsnet, I've been using the site for about 6wks and it's brillant and congratulations on your 1st baby.

Oakmaiden, I've been very tearful recently as well, but I was fine when washing the baby cloths, they looked brilliant on the washing line and made me realise just how much ds has grown.

Brookstone · 26/06/2003 14:34

hi guys,
there must be something in the air. i've spent the last few days trying to decide weather or not to wash my baby clothes. trying to decide if i was doing it too soon but now that i know i'm not the only one ..........!
i've also been crying at everything this week in particular. wasn't feeling too hormonal up to now. now i cry over cameron in bb being in south africa and telling his mother that he loves her!! how sad am i ???
i'm off now to get my washing machine on!

woodge · 27/06/2003 14:33

I wish I had some baby clothes to wash, but all of mine are with my brother & sister in law who've just had a little girl. I feel strangly jealous of them, why is it that we wish our pregnancies away and then when the baby's born we wish we were pregnant again?

Ragtaggle · 03/07/2003 07:35

Hello everyone,

I've just come across this thread and am relatively new to mumsnet. I'm due on the 10th October with my first child. We've been told it's a girl and are very excited.

Is anyone else having problems sleeping?
It's seven in the morning and I've been awake since five. I just can't seem to sleep at the moment as I can't get comfortable. I've tried that cushion under the leg thing and just find that it comes dislodged in the night very quickly. Also, our bed suddenly seems too small. We've ordered a new one but have been told it won't arrive until mid August. I have suddenly become very big indeed.

Has anyone got any thoughts on names? I really liked Ella but found out recently that it had become very popular. I don't want her to be one of seven in her class. Does anyone know anything about how popular that name is?

chatee · 03/07/2003 07:40

My dd is Ella and when we called her that my mil had neverheard of it, she now knows 3, but they are all different ages. I personally know one other and yes she would be in the same class if my dd was going to our village school-lucky she doesn't so she's still unique!
Last week whist out shopping with my dd another mum was calling her daughter and she was called Ella- my dd was a little confused
If you like it go for it-

crazynow · 03/07/2003 09:17

Ragtaggle, I know what you mean about not sleeping, I'm 29wks and have not sleept thru since i was 17wks. Yes the pillow between the legs is good if it stayed there and I didn't move all night - but that doesn't happen

I find I get aches down the side of my legs depending on which side i lye on and end up turn 5-6 times a night and then there's the pain in my pelvis so every time i move i get pains in the pelvis and have to make sure my legs stayed closed while turning, any way I won't go on - but i know how your feelling - very nakered !!

woodge · 03/07/2003 19:41

My dd is also Ella and yes we know a few others. What really gets me is the amount of dogs called Ella in our local park, it's really confusing for her when people are shouting "come here Ella" all over the place!
As for sleeping I completely sympathise. I seem to manage to get to sleep OK if dh is still watching TV, but once he joins me the bed is just not big enough. I find lying on my front with a couple of pillows under my thighs and top half helps - leaving a kind of hole for the bump!

ANGELMOTHER · 03/07/2003 20:39

Oh no am due Sep 25th (approx) and had decided on Elycia (Ella)........going to have to re-think maybe...

Sleeping is getting more impossible, not helped by the now frequent bathroom trips and constant thirst.

Any one had one of "those" nightmares yet. I had one the other night, gave birth (in hospital) and they wouldn't pass me the baby. Woke up in a sweat crying give me my baby.
I think it's my fear of birth in hospital and possible interference (am planning a home birth), bit strange nevertheless.

Bekki · 04/07/2003 21:26

Thats a nice name Angelmother, I would have chosen something similiar if I was having a girl. My dh and I are getting more and more confused over names, he wants names like Dante and other weird names like that and I had hoped that one name would jump out at me but it hasn't. I loved Cameron but with big brother I think people would assume I've copied it off that. I like Alexander but it seems a little tame. I was also told that you cannot have a first name that begins with the same letter as the surname, but ours is double-barreled so does that still count? I also wanted Finley but it doesn't flow very well with our long surname. I suggested Jaydon to dh today but he cringed and said it was a girls name. Is that true? I thought that deciding on your babies name was supposed to be fun, but with three baby name books and 30 odd names on a list I'm after some divine inspiration. I'm sorry to waffle on but I don't want anyone to know the name before the baby is born so I've got no one to ask advice from, except here. Does anyone have any interesting suggestions or a favourite from my list?
Sorry to mention this but I work in a toy shop and Ella is a very common name for girls 3 and under. My ds goes to playgroup with 2 Ellas and 1 Ellie. Its difficult finding a nice name that no one else has thought of using.
Anyone else having very strong practice contractions? I didn't experience them with my first so I'm not sure if this is entirely normal.

ANGELMOTHER · 04/07/2003 23:38

Never had Braxton Hicks with dd but for sure am getting them lately so yes Bekki if that's what you mean by practice contractions.

Another strange one I don't remember from dd which I'm getting now is very very itchy skin, mainly my back and shoulders but also legs........oh everywhere, is this my skin stretching...Aaargh does that mean stretch marks...

Am going to bed now with worry

Hello am new to mumsnet, but have found boards really interesting. I am due on 5/10/03 so am 27 weeks at mo'. Regarding sleeping I have about 9 pillows all around me like scaffolding. Still don't get much kip. Want to know if everyone has put on loads of weight yet. I have only put on 6lbs. I was 13.5st to start with. At 5'5" I was no victoria beckham, but I am only 13.11 now. Is this usual. My bump is big though. Midwife says baby is eating all of my fat!!!

wiltshire · 06/07/2003 01:04

Oh and if you want to check where your suggested name is in top 50 names for last couple years. I tried this one I think www.babycenter.com/babynames/.
This should save people from choosing a very popular name

Brookstone · 06/07/2003 17:31

wiltshire, what a considerate baby yours is! i wish mine was eating all my fat! wouldn't it be great if babies ate all your fat after birth as well!! i'm 26 weeks and enjoying lots of sweets and chocolate, which isn't helping matters!

Ailsa · 08/07/2003 01:24

32 weeks today, have started getting cramp in my lower right leg, always about 6am, not everyday though.

I had an attack of cramp today while driving back from Cornwall, but couldn't find anywhere to pull in for dh to take over until it had gone. I'm not sure whether today's attack was a 'normal' one or because yesterday (Sunday) we went to Clovelly and I walked back UP the hill instead of getting in the landrover! Actually, even though I say so myself, I'm quite proud that I made it to the top

Anyone got any ideas/tips on how to deal with it.

bells2 · 08/07/2003 07:39

Hi Ailsa. I too am beset by cramps, particularly during the night. I find that eating bananas helps - apparently on account of their high potassium content.
