Actually I probably find her belligerence easier to cope with than say if she was tearful so it's not too bad. Also, I have set her up for an interview later this week with a friend of a friend who apparently gives the term 'high maintenance' new meaning (chortle chortle).

Kaz33 I have moments of fear too as to how I will cope. I have slogged it out in the city for 16 solid years and it's all going to be quite a big shock, especially the loss of independence. DH works very hard and long hours and I just hope I can keep my end up as far as maintaining some semblance of a calm home is concerned.

Also am very amused at the reaction of people - most seem to think I am about to embark on an endless holiday.

Finally joining in. I'm due 15th October (baby number 2), had a scan today and the little one was bouncing around and waving at the camera (and there's only one of them, I have a huge bump already and was getting worried).
The morning, noon, and night sickness is finally wearing off, and I can stay up till past nine again - hurrah.

Bekki · 31/03/2003 22:28

Hi WallyTheCat I'm due three days before you and I'm certain of my dates, but this baby will be late. NQWWW I felt the first movements yesterday, isn't it great! i'd forgotten how it felt, I've hardly been breathing because I don't want to miss any. I still haven't seen my baby yet my scan isn't for another two weeks. I'm due before everybody else on here and I bet I'll be the last to get the scan.

NQWWW · 01/04/2003 14:09

Congratulations bluebear! Big bumps are all the rage these days - you should see mine.

Bekki - surprised to hear your scan is so late. Is this normal for your health authority?

elliott · 01/04/2003 14:18

Bekki maybe you're from round my way? My health authority (and at least one other nearby) only offers one scan at 20 weeks....

forest · 01/04/2003 15:33

Yes my health authority is the same and gives a scan at about 20 weeks unless you have any worry over dates when they will give you a dating scan.
It would be nice to think looking after a baby was one long holiday! I did find it easy in the beginning with dd but now she is mobile and into everything I am finding it the hardest thing I have ever done! Still it is nice popping round to friends houses for coffee (or herbal tea at the moment) and seeing our babies play together.

I'm from Leicestershire. I know other hospitals in my area offer earlier scans, so chances are its just this one. Its very worrying to be left this long, what if there was a problem with my baby, what if I was carrying triplets? Surely women need to know this before they're half way through their pregnancy?

forest · 02/04/2003 11:17

Becki the scan at 20 weeks is to check that the baby is fine and has no problems. I believe they can't tell any earlier although I could be wrong. The only reason I see to have one early is to check for twins or to give you an accurate date if you are unsure. I am sure everything is fine.
Personally I am glad not to have too many scans - less time in hospital having to wait!

bells2 · 02/04/2003 13:38

My health authority only offers a 20 week scan too. Like Bekki though I was concerned that this was too late as apart from anything else I didn't really want to tell people I was pregnant until I had seen the heart beat and so on. Also, at 38 this time I did want a nuchal fold scan although really to be prepared rather than anything else. You can arrange for a private scan in London at the Harris Birthright Trust, the Foetal Assessment Centre in Harley Street or the Portland.

Has anyone else gone hairy? I don't remember this with my first baby. The line done the middle of the belly hasn't appeared yet but I 've got this trail of dark hair up to and around my belly, and I've just noticed its spreading to the rest of my belly. Whats going on?

EmmaTMG · 06/04/2003 20:32

Bekki, maybe I should change my name for this as it's quite embarrassing but I can't be bothered to so I'll have to live with it.
I haven't noticed it this time YET but the hairyness didn't affect the normal parts of me (Head/belly-line) during my first 2 pregnancies but, here comes the embarrassing bit, my pubic hair grew ....so much so that I had to keep cutting it!!! It wasn't growing out of my trouser legs or anything but was quite conciderably longer and it was either put conditioner on it an brush it or cut it. It was a nightmare and I dreaded DH walking into the bathroom when I had scissors in hand heading for my nether regions. My underarm hair grew much faster too, if I had left it I'd have been like a wooly mammoth.
There I've said it all now. It's funny but I can feel a red glow on my cheeks and it's not the 2nd trimester blooming feeling either.

Bekki · 06/04/2003 21:31

Oh yeah I've had all of that, trimming is now a neccesity. i don't mind that, you're supposed to have hair there, but belly hair? I'm just hoping it falls out along with the extra hair on your head after the birth. I've also become incredibly spotty all over my body. My hair is lank and always greasy, but if I wash it all the time, it flakes. I feel like I'm going through another awkward puberty. Wheres my pregnancy bloom?

NQWWW · 07/04/2003 15:35

I've been getting really spotty too - around the top of my neck, but its started to get better now (I'm 18 weeks). I've also had really dry skin, especially on my hands, which have aged about 30 years over the last few months. Horrible, isn't it?

forest · 07/04/2003 21:45

Yes I've been getting spotty although I think it might be clearing up. I don't feel like I'm blooming - still feeling nauseous and sick. And so tired.... When does the tiredness go? Or doesn't it if you already have a baby to look after? Beginning to feel like I am showing although my friend keeps telling me I look like I'm loosing weight! Oh and my brain has most definatley fallen out - threw dh's train ticket out the other day and he hadn't used it. Was not in his good books!

bells2 · 09/04/2003 09:25

Just wondered if anyone else was experiencing any movement yet?. I am now 16 weeks and while I know it is still relatively early, I had definitely felt movement at this stage last time around.

EmmaTMG · 09/04/2003 09:48

Sometimes I think I have, but then I think I must be imagining it. It's not movement as such, just a sort of prod.
Who knows?

NQWWW · 09/04/2003 10:42

I think I have - I'm possibly imagining it.

Feeling really awful today, as just spoke to one of my NCT group who was 9 weeks pregnant and went for a scan yesterday (2nd one in the past 2 weeks - she has been bleeding for about 3 weeks) to find that there is no longer a heartbeat. She's been having a terrible time anyway - in the last couple of years she's been suffering from PND after her first baby, her DH had one testicle removed following cancer, then got made redundant and still hasn't found a decent job, and a couple of weeks ago she had to spend several days in hospital with chest pains and they couldn't do all the normal tests because she was pregnant.

She's coming to our weekly get-together tomorrow - 2 of us there are pregnant and I keep thinking how awful it will be for her seeing us (and knowing that we're avoiding all mention of babies etc).

Sorry for miserable post but I can't think about much else.

forest · 10/04/2003 09:15

Your poor friend. I hope you meet up went ok.

bells2 · 10/04/2003 10:10

Oh I am so relieved!. DS had slapped cheek about 10 days ago and I just got the results of my blood test to say I'm immune (small risk of miscarriage if you catch it up to 20 weeks). Had been feeling quite worried as to the complete lack of movement. I know at 16 weeks it is still relatively early but last time around I felt it from 14 weeks onwards. Am hoping for a flutter soon.

EmmaTMG · 10/04/2003 16:32

Bell2, I was in a similar dilemma to you a couple of weeks ago when DS1 had chickenpox. I was 90% sure I had had it but it was suggested that I have a blood test to check I was immune. The first spots appeared on the Friday/Saturday morning, now I wouldn't have been able to get to the hospital for test until the Monday so that was already 2/3 days lost and the results take 10 days to come back. As the incubation period for chicken pox can be up to 21 (according to NHS direst) I would have been exposed to it for a total of 32 or 33 days and infact DS2 cought it aswell so that period of time would have been nearer 45 days once his spots dried up. It seemed pretty pointless getting the test so I decided not to have it done. In the end my sister who has a memory like an elephant told me I had definatly had it when I was about 4 so I didn't worry.

It's ridiculous that blood tests take so long when a pregnancy is involved and when I mentioned all the time I had been exposed to it the GP agreed that it would be a waste of time. Blimey in 33 days I could have had it and got over it in all that time. Bloody Ridiculous.

jodee · 10/04/2003 22:27

Bells, just read your good news - congratulations! Hope you are doing well.

Marina · 11/04/2003 14:03

Bells, what a huge relief. I honestly think every woman in the country should be offered screening for Parvo, toxoplasmosis and Hughes (clotting disorder) as part of their pre-conception care. They do it for rubella and SYPHILIS (latter is a major risk factor for many of us I don't think), after all.

Bekki · 11/04/2003 17:06

Well, I finally had my scan. I'm quite embarrased now though as I was convinced i was having a girl, and what do you know, a little boy waved at me from the screen. I didn't have to be told as I could see his extra bits as soon as his picture came up. If you could have seen my mother-in-laws reaction you would think that she hadn't even considered the possibility of me having another boy. "What?!" was her reaction, much similiar to mine although I kept a smile on my face. Its not that I'm dissapointed that i'm having another boy, its that I'm saddened that the little baby I envisioned in my stomach turned out not to exist. Its someone completely different! I know this sounds really petty and trivial considering that my baby is healthy but I need to get it off my mind so I can continue having a happy pregnancy. My son however confused matters when he yelled out "its a girl" as he saw his nanny and a room full of strangers, bless him.

Bekki · 12/04/2003 19:02

What a difference a day makes. I'm feeling alot happier now and I am really looking forward to buying more blue sleepsuits and things. Besides it gives me a valid reason to go on having as many babies as I want until I get my girl.
