Scan done and all looks okay with baby except my blood pressure was high so the doctor wants to start me on medication and bloods tomorrow for pre-eclampsia (which is bizarre as I thought this was only after 20weeks) so feeling a bit deflated and upset 😢 due date 2/12

congrats to everyone else on their positive scan news today x

Glad your scan went well but sorry to hear about the other parts and how you’re feeling about it. Is the medication for the rest of the pregnancy or can you get rechecked in a few weeks?

Aprahel87 · 27/05/2026 17:02

Scan all done and everything looks well - due date 6th December. Peanut was being quite stubborn today about getting into position - took 2 hours and 3 doctors before they got everything! I can sense they will be a troublemaker already 😃

aww that’s so funny! Glad your scan has gone well

Desperatelyseekingme · 27/05/2026 17:30

@frolickinglamb not sure, I assume for the rest of pregnancy but will see

Bomatoes · 27/05/2026 18:08

@Desperatelyseekingme
I'm in the same boat.. high blood pressure and marked as high risk for pre eclampsia (previous baby had a low birth weight). I have to start taking aspirin at 12 weeks.. I was told this is all just erring on the side of caution and will mean they'll take extra care with monitoring and growth scans etc. Hopefully your blood pressure will stabilise... they love to put the fear of god into you!

avocadotoast11 · 27/05/2026 19:02

Well done on all the scans, always nice to read positive news :))

re the blood pressure, sorry it’s long@Desperatelyseekingme: I had my booking appointment on Friday, and my bp was 127/90 - the midwife at the appointment initially said it’s borderline high but probably nothing needs doing now. After I had my bloods drawn she called me in to say I should go to a&e and when I asked why/can’t I go to my GP she was insistent on a&e and didn’t explain why other than “monitoring”. The a&e wait was very long, it was hot, and my husband had left before my bloods — I didn’t want to stay at a&e for hours on my own so I went to my GP who took my blood pressure again (it was 130/90 or something like that) and urine and mentioned “white coat syndrome” (being in a hospital making you more stressed hence higher BP) and advised me to measure at home, and tell the midwives if I keep consistently getting more than 85 on the lower number. I got a BP monitor at home and have measured my BP once or twice a day and never got anything above 75. My urine also came back clear (I think they can see if you had prolonged high BP from protein in the urine). The GP said GP practices usually can give BP monitors on loan for home.

Obviously listen to the midwives and doctors - but I had a pretty scary Friday morning and it turns out (for now) everything is fine, and I just get stressed in hospitals.

Desperatelyseekingme · 27/05/2026 20:16

@Bomatoes sorry to hear you are in the same boat. I have been started on blood pressure medication and have taken the first dose a few hours ago, feeling terrible.. I only thought I felt bad in very early pregnancy. I'm off work next week so starting my leave early and taking tomorrow and Friday too and then will see it goes x

Growingaseed · 27/05/2026 20:23

Hi all,

Catching up on all the messages and it's been lovely reading about all the positive scan news! I have my 12w scan tomorrow afternoon. Simultaneously nervous and excited.

I've really noticed the change from trimester 1 to 2 the last week. Nausea suddenly gone and less tired. It's been a bit unnerving as I don't feel as pregnant but on the other hand my bump seems to have popped a bit. Although I may just be bloated... 🤣

NewAgeDawning · 27/05/2026 22:50

@Desperatelyseekingme congratulations on a healthy and positive scan. Sorry to hear about your blood pressure, did they measure it then? or is this the reading from your booking appointment? Do you know why it's high?
@Aprahel87 and congratulations to you too, on your little peanut being a little rebel already haha its good they got all the measurements needed.
@Growingaseed good luck with your scan in the morning, let us know how it goes?
@avocadotoast11 That's a really good call about getting your own bp monitor.

Hope everyone else who has a scan tomorrow and Friday goes well, good luck to you all
I am still struggling to feel properly excited until Ive had my NIPT results back but I am pleased to have seen that I have a baby in my tummy after all. I know some of you have not had much nausea or your symptoms have subsided. Mine have not been very strong this pregnancy at all and I was sometimes concerned but i think if you have no other reason to worry, then the absence of symptoms alone shouldnt be a huge cause for alarm imo. Thats what I kept telling myself whenever my mind took me to a darker place.

Is anyone finding out the gender, before birth that is?

Aprahel87 · 28/05/2026 00:35

@NewAgeDawning yes I have my gender scan booked on 27th June - can’t wait 😃

Ncl31 · 28/05/2026 06:53

@NewAgeDawning it was originally 8th December so brought forward 2 days.

We’re also going to find out the gender. I was always adamant I wouldn’t, but when hubby mentioned he might look it to my mind shifted immediately.
we’re going to book our scan for 16 weeks which just so happens to be Father’s Day. So that’ll be nice for him. I’m praying for him little one is a girl, he has an 18 yr old from a previous marriage so it’ll be nice for a girl.
I’m not bothered either way as it’s my first.

it’s interesting reading that some of you have had doctors do your scans, a midwife has done every scan I’ve had, including the EPU ones.

Em3009 · 28/05/2026 09:16

@wonderlust07 we have matching due dates! 🥰

so glad all of your scans have gone well, it’s lovely to see!

Ah yay!

My first came at 36 weeks so I wonder if this one will make an early appearance too, my birthday is the 7th Dec so I would rather avoid that day!

I will also be booking a gender scan - cannot deal with surprises!

I told work this morning which makes me so nervous. They were fine as expected but I worry so much.

bluepurplegreen · 28/05/2026 10:18

Does anyone else have headaches? Hoping these leave soon. Worried about taking paracetamol… it’s approved as safe but they also say to take as little as possible 🤔.
I had the NIPT so I know the sex: two girls!
I’ve really popped and need a new wardrobe.

Alwaysgrowing · 28/05/2026 10:54

@bluepurplegreen I had headaches in my first pregnancy, from around 12 weeks and honestly they stressed me out so much, plus anxiety caused them. For me ibuprofen is the best, but that isn't safe in pregnancy. I also had insomnia, babybrain and didn't drive for a bit as I was too anxious and got a headache as soon as I got behind the wheel. I didn't trust my focus. At one of my appointments, might have been perinatal mental health, they helped put things in perspective that a coffee and paracetamol before driving was the right thing to do, as being a safe driver and not as stressed is a much bigger benefit than the small risk of paracetamol and caffeine.

This time round my headaches have improved as I had some pms related ones before. Allthough I'm getting some in this heat. Look after yourself.

@wonderlust07 my first also came at 36 weeks so I expected my 2nd early but we made it to 40+2 and those last few weeks were long. I expressed concerns about baby coming early again and a Dr said it's just one of those things and I wasn't likely to be early again, I most likely had an undiagnosed UTI first time... but I didn't really believe her.

I just found out a colleagues wife is pregnant too, due a similar time. We have a kid each the same age and talk a lot about their development so it will be nice. I haven't actually met up outside work but might try to.

Aww yeah, I have heard that a few times when the first came early. I think it is just one of those things and on reflection I think I would rather avoid a 4 night stay on the ward.

Aw thats nice.

rach971 · 28/05/2026 11:05

@NewAgeDawning Yeah we have our gender scan booked for 20th June. My cousin's girlfriend is pregnant with their first and they aren't finding out. I couldn't do that personally, I like to be prepared 😂

Alwaysgrowing · 28/05/2026 11:26

Yeah, 36 was a bit early but arriving naturally at around 38/39 would be nice. 😆

bluepurplegreen · 28/05/2026 11:30

@Alwaysgrowing That sounds tough. I’m having one coffee in the morning and I am taking paracetemol. Mentioned it to my midwife and she said stay hydrated.
They’re not absolutely unbearable at least.

pastaislife · 28/05/2026 12:01

Just had my scan, soooo relieved everything looks great and my hematoma has gone 🥰 due date pushed back slightly to 8th December, but struggled to get a good measurement as baby was moving so much which was just so nice to see!

NewAgeDawning · 28/05/2026 14:22

@Aprahel87 fantastic. Im going to book mine next week
@Ncl31 such a good idea booking your scan on fathers day, itll be a lovely gift. My scans have always been done by a sonographer.
@wonderlust07 well done for telling work. Im going to wait as long as possible
Was there a particular reason you told them or you just felt it was the right time?
@bluepurplegreen congratulations on your two girls! i love the idea of twins, itll be such a special time for you and the girls have a bff from the get go
No headaches for me although they were an initial pregnancy symptom. Any chance youre dehydrated? Its so very hot
@rach971 oh lovely, how far along will you be? Are you close to your cousins girlfriend? Will be nice to have a pregnancy buddy. We didnt find out with our first, it was an exciting time but we will this time round. Dont think i could do the not knowing again!
@pastaislife congratulations, we have the same due date. and great news that the hematoma is gone, you must be very relieved

Those of you with children already, have you told them yet? My 2 year old has sussed out i have a tummy in my belly so this morning I caved and showed her the scan photos. I didnt want to tell her before my NIPT results came in but sometimes life just happens

I told them at this point last time, no particular reason but I only work in a small office.

bluepurplegreen · 28/05/2026 16:25

@NewAgeDawning thanks! I’m expecting it to be pretty tough with two at the start then top jokes later: hoping they’ll be good sleepers. Sounds like you’ve got a good age difference with yours.
Think I’m hydrated, but the heat probably doesn’t help.

rach971 · 28/05/2026 17:34

@NewAgeDawning I'll be 16+4. I was tempted to book it the week before, but I wanted to try and have it right between my 12 & 20 week scans so it breaks the wait up.

I've only met her briefly a couple of times. Not long after they got together, she moved to London (we're in West Lancs) to go to uni and then my cousin followed her to join the police

Aw yay due date twins! I was in the 6th Dec club from my EPU scans but they went with 8th today, even though one measurement suggested 4th Dec 🤣 we will see when they all decide to make their appearances!
