Wow, where to start. I’m 40, have two children DS-8 & DD-13, and I found out last week that I’m pregnant with number 3. My cycle has been pretty irregular for years and we gave up ‘trying’ for a third around 4 years ago. Almost immediately, the day I turned 40 I started to experience peri-menopausal symptoms and my cycle regulated itself, so for the last 6-7 months we have been ‘careful’-cue a few too many Rum and Cokes and some excellent sunshine and relaxation
in a hot country and whoosh, a swimmer took the lead during our holiday in early August. I’m anxious, and I’m excited all at the same time. I’m experiencing some odd symptoms-period like pains (haven’t had these since I was a teen), cravings for things I don’t normally like (didn’t get cravings til near the end with first two), and I’m ho**y as hell (sorry TMI). My back ache is always there, I’m no twiggy and I’m defo no spring chicken, but the tummy pains are worrying me. Is anyone else finding it much harder to ‘sign on’ with midwife than ever before and I can’t go to EPU without a referral. 9 years ago I just walked into GP and told them I was pregnant and was seen within days!
Anyway, I ramble on, and really all I want is people to talk to (I want to shout it from rooftops, but we are not telling anyone yet-that will be a drama in itself) and I want to also go through this with others pregnant at the same time.
So.. join in, reach out.. talk to me!
Best wishes ladies (6weeks1day)

Hi I'm 39 but I'll be very nearly 40 when this baby is born! I'm 14 weeks now and we'd actually been trying for a while but I still sometimes think omg what am I doing 😂 I have a 15, 16 and 18 year old already!! So very big age gap, new partner this time. I was very sick all the first trimester and I'm only just starting to feel a bit human again so I'm hoping I can start to enjoy this pregnancy soon! I'm also quite anxious as I had a late loss two years ago, just praying everything goes smoothly this time 🤞🏼🙏🏼 Anyway congratulations on your pregnancy! I can imagine it's a bit of a shock when you're older and not expecting it but it's also such a blessing ❤️ x

2tobe3 · 10/09/2025 18:25

Oh amazing, congratulations! Sorry to hear about your loss too. I’m praying everything goes smoothly for you too!
I’m so blessed, I am so happy! x

Hiya, I was just turning 45 when I got pregnant with my one and only DD (IVF, own eggs, it was last chance saloon and the first round of IVF worked -after 3 years of delay while a consultant told me it would never work and she wouldn't put me forward for it!). You'll be fine! They treat you as "high risk" anyway if you're over 40 and won't let you go too much over your due date to lessen risk to the baby and all that. Plus... you already have 2 so you don't have the fear of the unknown really... good luck with everything! I'm sure you'll be tireder than with your first 2 (I was knackered but had nothing to compare it to but I've heard other mothers with a gap between youngest and oldest say that.. makes sense). But you've got this.

Thank you for your kind words! Well done to you for persevering, and having your DD at 45. I am hoping to be allowed a home birth this time, both my previous babies delivered fast, and I’d much rather be at home and try to ‘enjoy’ the build up than be in the car for over half an hour to the hospital. I just can’t wait to see the midwife and have booking in appt. I’m desperate to check everything is ok! x

I'm 40 in Dec. Have a 1 year old ds (ivf baby)
Did a second round of ivf last month hoping to conceive baby #2 (no transfer as we had to freeze them)
I found out last week we somehow conceived naturally during the ivf cycle.
We'd tried for 20 years naturally so it's all came as a bit of a shock and I'm struggling to believe it

What a fabulous story, that is amazing! Well done! I’m keeping everything crossed for you! There really is more or us older mums than I thought there would be! x

Can I join you…
Been lurking for a few days and waiting but after a bleed on Monday about an hour after my positive test everything has settled and my tests are getting darker.
This will be baby number 4 for me (3rd with my husband). I had a MMC at 12 weeks in May that needed surgery and so this is cycle 2 of trying again. Seem to be already feeling some symptoms of nausea and tiredness at only 4 weeks which is strange seems super early!
Should add I’m 40! Xx

Hopingrae · 11/09/2025 14:41

Congrats OP! I'll join you too! I tried starting my own thread a few days ago but it didn't get legs. I'm 41, 6 weeks today with potential DC3. DC1 is 4 in December and DC2 is nearly 11 months. I've had a few losses before, and in between, DCs, so I'm finding it really hard to talk out loud about this pregnancy as I feel like I'm going to jinx everything... even though logical me knows jinxing isn't a thing! Ha. We've booked a scan when I'll be 8 weeks so hopefully we'll have an idea of where we stand with things. It'd be nice to share the journey :)

Can I join please, I’m 43 and found out yesterday I was pregnant l. A shock as my cycles are all over the place and thought a was stating the menopause! By the due date calculator it says 3+4 weeks so a long road ahead

2tobe3 · 11/09/2025 20:16

Hi to the latest ladies that have joined us. Welcome! I feel like we are building a nice little community! Sorry for being quiet today, it’s been a busy one with school runs, work meetings and feeling tired!
How is everyone feeling this evening? I’m sat on the sofa watching trashy tv, trying to stay awake. I can’t go to bed yet, or I will be awake all night. The pregnancy insomnia is real this time! X

@2tobe3 im with you on the tiredness…. By 3 o’clock I’m ready for a nap! I’ve also had a really dry mouth and have gone off coffee. How is everyone else feeling?

Bakingbeannumber2 · 12/09/2025 14:59

Hi ladies, I'm 39 years old and current 8 weeks gone. I have a two year old little boy already and will turn 40 two months after I'm due. I definitely feel more exhausted and nauseous this time, and have also gone off coffee which is both confusing and devastating!

Hopingrae · 12/09/2025 15:13

I'm the same with tiredness, definitely gets worse as the day goes on. Managing to find some energy to look after my baby and pre schooler... but there's probably more tv than there should be 😬 nausea is starting to creep in slightly too. I've got a prescription for anti nausea meds from the GP as well, I had them with my last pregnancy and they definitely took the edge off!
@Bakingbeannumber2 welcome!

2tobe3 · 12/09/2025 17:33

@Bakingbeannumber2Welcome!

I feel the coffee pain too, this was not a thing in my previous pregnancies. I love coffee normally (my other half is Italian!) but now I can’t stand the smell!
I’m lucky that my children are older so I haven’t got to find much energy otherwise they would be fending for themselves, I’m so tired all the time! I think it’s just first trimester shock, and hoping I will pep up about post 12 weeks-fingers crossed.
I’m so impatient that I’m contemplating an early private scan, do you think they are worth it?! I’m terrified of it being twins, it’s not in my family, but apparently common in older pregnancies…. x

Congrats everyone I’m 41 (today) and 6+6 with baby number 3 I have have 2 boys 5 and 15 and I suffered a mmc in feb at 9+4 so I’m very nervous.

2tobe3 · 12/09/2025 17:42

@Sugarcube84 Welcome and Happy Birthday!

Be positive and keep calm, your body will listen I’m sure. I’m keeping everything crossed for a happy and healthy pregnancy!
I’m a few days behind you at 6+3, the days and weeks seem to go so slowly! How are you feeling, generally? x

Thankyou.

Knackered, and very nauseous I’ve had Hyperemesis in previous pregnancies so I’ve already started taking the anti sickness meds. There’s lots of research that if you take them before you get really bad then they work better .

how are you feeling? We did an early scan with the last 2 but I don’t think we’d find comfort in it this time given our mmc in Feb after seeing a lovely strong hb at 8+4 (hb stopped at 9+4) so we are going to wait I think, just staying positive.

Hopingrae · 12/09/2025 19:47

@sugarcube84 welcome! Congrats on your new pregnancy and so sorry for your previous loss. I've had 3 previous losses around my 2 DSs s we've decided to book a private scan at 8 weeks, but very aware that doesn't mean everything is well long term. With my last mmc we had one at 7 weeks and saw a lovely HB and it must have stopped within the next day or two when we went back at 9 weeks. So that's why we've gone for 8 weeks this time. But each pregnancy is different, just keep telling yourself that! I've heard that about anti sickness meds too, I've got a prescription for when I need them but not picked them up yet, maybe I should just start taking them in the hope it minimises feeling too rough!
DH is having salmon for his dinner... turns out I don't like that smell any more!

Definitely couldn’t cope with salmon dh made a chicken stir fry I ate everything but the chicken.

Can I sneakily join in as well? I’m turning 38 next month and just found out my pregnancy last week. I’m full of excitement and anxiety and I just hope that the early days get passed by quickly. So far I haven’t had many symptoms besides some tiredness.

CTTat · 13/09/2025 07:48

@Sugarcube84 i completely get this… I can’t work out what point to do an early scan this time. We had a HB last time at 8.2 but then at 12 weeks no heartbeat. I might go 7 weeks and 10 weeks possibly.
Hope everyone is enjoying a bit of a lay in this morning ♥️
