Wow, where to start. I’m 40, have two children DS-8 & DD-13, and I found out last week that I’m pregnant with number 3. My cycle has been pretty irregular for years and we gave up ‘trying’ for a third around 4 years ago. Almost immediately, the day I turned 40 I started to experience peri-menopausal symptoms and my cycle regulated itself, so for the last 6-7 months we have been ‘careful’-cue a few too many Rum and Cokes and some excellent sunshine and relaxation
in a hot country and whoosh, a swimmer took the lead during our holiday in early August. I’m anxious, and I’m excited all at the same time. I’m experiencing some odd symptoms-period like pains (haven’t had these since I was a teen), cravings for things I don’t normally like (didn’t get cravings til near the end with first two), and I’m ho**y as hell (sorry TMI). My back ache is always there, I’m no twiggy and I’m defo no spring chicken, but the tummy pains are worrying me. Is anyone else finding it much harder to ‘sign on’ with midwife than ever before and I can’t go to EPU without a referral. 9 years ago I just walked into GP and told them I was pregnant and was seen within days!
Anyway, I ramble on, and really all I want is people to talk to (I want to shout it from rooftops, but we are not telling anyone yet-that will be a drama in itself) and I want to also go through this with others pregnant at the same time.
So.. join in, reach out.. talk to me!
Best wishes ladies (6weeks1day)

@sugarcube84 thanks, trying to take the nausea as some sort of reassurance! Yes I've had my booking appointment and my scan is booked. It was meant to be at 12 weeks exactly but we had to move it as it was too close to DS1 nursery drop off time (we don't have family support network nearby to help), so it's when I'll be 12+5 when DS1 is at nursery my mum can help out with DS2!

@Herewegoagain40 yes we're paying for a private NIPT. It's quite expensive, but I had a high risk screening result after my 12 week bloods last time and went on to have the nhs NIPT, it caused so much worry and stress that I said to my DH I can't go through that again. So we decided to get it first and we'll hopefully have the results by nhs 12 week scan. I'm with you re hormones, I find early pregnancy hormones so awful, they can make me feel really quite flat and low (as well as sick!) but they should lift eventually... I'll hang in there with you x

@BabyBorn that's so good that you've been relatively ok this time! It's strange when the nausea comes in and out, with my previous pregnancies it's been really consistent. All pregnancies are different i guess, just gives us something else to fret over! 😅

Hopingrae · 13/10/2025 19:11

@BabyBorn I hope all went well with your scan today and you're not waiting too long for NIPT results 🙏x
@Sugarcube84 have you had your results back yet?

My nausea is really going up and down this time which I'm not used to, I've felt OK most of today. Previous pregnancies it was just there all day every day until 15ish weeks. Makes me a bit uneasy. Only 3 more days until the next scan, really hoping all will be OK with it.

Sugarcube84 · 14/10/2025 08:33

@Hopingrae no not yet I only went on Thursday and they said 7 working days so to ring if I don’t get them by friday

Oh sorry, it felt like longer ago! Keeping everything crossed x

BabyBorn · 14/10/2025 14:24

Hiya @Hopingrae thats so much for remembering! It went well thanks! Baby was measuring 11 weeks 5 days. I have my daring scan next week.

Good luck for your scan in two days! Looking forward to hearing how it went!

I'm feeling you on the nausea front as mine is still lurking! Some days worse than others but it’s just horrible. Hopefully it will pass for us both soon! Xx

BabyBorn · 14/10/2025 14:25

Good luck with your results @Sugarcube84 x

Hey 👋
I'm 46, 9wks in with dc2, due in mid May. ds1 is nearly 13.
This is Ivf with donated eggs. After an ectopic and subsequent removal of my tubes, we had 3, failed, rounds of ivf 7 yrs ago with my own eggs.
I'm from the uk, but we now live in Bulgaria and this ivf was done in Cyprus.
I had a early scan at 6 was and saw the heartbeat. Next scan is in 3 weeks, though I'll be getting a few blood tests done at the end of this week.
The nausea and constant reflux are driving me crazy, and my mental health has taken a nose dive. Not too mention the bruises from the additional hormones I have to inject.

Welcome @zan79 I'm 9 weeks too, so due the same time. And I've also found the sickness and tiredness has made my mental health nose dive. Really struggling to stay positive. Congrats on your pregnancy, it sounds like you've had a very tricky path to get here.

Sugarcube84 · 15/10/2025 18:44

Results are back and low risk for everything so made up.

we also found out we are having a boy, so that’s my third boy and 4 in total out of our 5 kids. I told the midwife the other day I was destined to be a boy mum 🤣

Congrats @Sugarcube84 😊 fantastic news you must feel relieved. I have three boys, and I imagine this little one is probably a boy too!

Sugarcube84 · 15/10/2025 19:15

@Herewegoagain40 yes it’s a massive relief. The boys will be happy with another boy and the youngest will be able to share so logistically it’s the best outcome 🤣

How do you feel about another boy?

BabyBorn · 15/10/2025 19:22

Hey ladies! Wow that’s brilliant your results came back great @Sugarcube84i am nervously waiting for mine. I’ve asked for the sex not to be disclosed though! I’ve got 3 girls and I’m pretty sure this next one will be a girl too! Isn’t it crazy how it works!!! X

Hopingrae · 15/10/2025 19:35

@sugarcube84 That's great news! Really pleased for you. Aww boy number 3, magical! I've got 2 boys and we're fully expecting number 3 to be another one! Love being a boy mum, although the energy levels are something else 😅 a friend said to us the other day that whatever your first baby is you are statistically more likely to have the same sex again with subsequent babies apparently.
@BabyBorn oo will you find out later in the pregnancy or keep it a surprise?! We didn't find out with DS1 but did with DS2, I quite like knowing before hand, wasn't sure if I would or not!

I'm feeling quite nervous about scan tomorrow, will be glad to get it done.

@zan79 Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy! First trimester symptoms are not fun at all, especially if you've got the added hormones you're injecting. Hope you're able to take it easy and hopefully it all passes soon.

BabyBorn · 15/10/2025 19:39

@Hopingrae no. This is the only pregnancy that I’ve not found out! I know it will be another girl though! The nub theory kinda gave it away!! 😂😂

Is it your dating scan you have tomorrow or a private one? X

2tobe3 · 15/10/2025 19:54

Hi ladies thank you for keeping this group going. I have been following along silently in the background whilst suffering with severe sickness, tiredness and pains.
Ive finally had my booking appointment and have a scan in 2 weeks (they must be behind where I live). I’m 11+1 and time seems to be going so slow.
I didn’t have any symptoms with my first two, so this has taken me by surprise, it could be my age!!

hope you are all well x

@BabyBorn haha, it's nice to have a semi surprise though! It's a private scan with the NIPT blood test. 11 weeks tomorrow!
@2tobe3 ah lovely to have you be back but poor you, sounds like you're having a really rough first trimester. It's so strange how different pregnancies can be from previous ones, makes no sense! My symptoms have been up and down this time with nausea but managing to function just about ok, with my last pregnancy I was bed bound for a few weeks as I was so rough. Glad you've finally got a scan date, the waiting is tough. Are you off work atm?

2tobe3 · 15/10/2025 22:02

@Hopingraethanks! It really has been rough. No im working, but luckily I work from home so it’s been a little easier to manage. I cant wait for my scan, I just want to have something to look at to make it all feel worthwhile! x

Hopingrae · 16/10/2025 13:36

@2tobe3 that's good that you can work from home and hopefully stay under the radar a bit. Not long until the scan now!

We were measuring 11+1 at the scan today and all was well! Just waiting for NIPT result now which we should get next week hopefully.

Niknak8493 · 16/10/2025 14:07

CONGRATULATIONS!
I’ve just found out I’m pregnant too, I’m 41 just turned start of this month, and have a 21 & 17 year olds already. I’m the same I feel scared and excited at the same time so I know how you feel 😊

zan79 · 17/10/2025 11:26

Well, I've been to the lab and given enough blood to keep the vampires partying this wkend. And I've got my 12 week scan booked in for the 30th.
If all is well, it'll be time to tell the families 😯

Gingernutmint · 18/10/2025 12:53

I’ve been enjoying reading updates from other women in similar circs. I’m 40, ten weeks in and expecting a second baby in mid May. So sick this time around! It was fairly hard last time, but remote working due to covid meant it was easier to manage as I was home. Back now in an active, public-facing role now and it’s hard going. Is anyone else massively bloated? Urgh. NIPT booked for next week. Fingers crossed.

BabyBorn · 18/10/2025 20:44

Hi ladies,

Sorry to see that quite a few of you are feeling so rough. I tell you what has helped me massively… acupuncture! It stops my morning sickness for almost a week at a time! I have acupuncture every 2 weeks and for the week after I’ve had it the nausea disappears and I feel amazing! It is so weird. I actually had to have a reassurance scan be cause I lost my nausea and it’s so unusual for me. I hadn’t realised it was the acupuncture at first! There’s a pressure point around 3-4 inches from the inner wrist that relieves the nausea. I couldn’t believe it! It’s welled again this time! I had acupuncture on Thursday and I’ve felt amazing since!

Had my NIPT bloods on Monday and now waiting for the results. 12 week scan is on Wednesday. Good luck to those having there’s soon! X

BabyBorn · 18/10/2025 20:49

Sorry that was supposed to say, it worked again this time, not welled again! 🥴😂

TripleESept24 · 19/10/2025 17:49

I'm 40 in January and have a 21 year old, and a 1 year old. And we will definitely be trying for a baby brother or sister next year!! 🥰 I had my 21 year old at 18 was young and never found my person until I was 37! So we are completing our family a bit later in life

BabyBorn · 19/10/2025 22:14

Welcome @TripleESept24very exciting! I also have an almost 21 year old, 13 year old and 3 year old. Now pregnant with number 4. We didn’t expect to have a 3rd it happened and we were shocked after having years without very young children. We then decided to try for a smaller gap which we have never experienced before and I’m so nervous about! It’s crazy where life takes you isn’t it! Good luck with your TTC journey!
