Wow, where to start. I’m 40, have two children DS-8 & DD-13, and I found out last week that I’m pregnant with number 3. My cycle has been pretty irregular for years and we gave up ‘trying’ for a third around 4 years ago. Almost immediately, the day I turned 40 I started to experience peri-menopausal symptoms and my cycle regulated itself, so for the last 6-7 months we have been ‘careful’-cue a few too many Rum and Cokes and some excellent sunshine and relaxation
in a hot country and whoosh, a swimmer took the lead during our holiday in early August. I’m anxious, and I’m excited all at the same time. I’m experiencing some odd symptoms-period like pains (haven’t had these since I was a teen), cravings for things I don’t normally like (didn’t get cravings til near the end with first two), and I’m ho**y as hell (sorry TMI). My back ache is always there, I’m no twiggy and I’m defo no spring chicken, but the tummy pains are worrying me. Is anyone else finding it much harder to ‘sign on’ with midwife than ever before and I can’t go to EPU without a referral. 9 years ago I just walked into GP and told them I was pregnant and was seen within days!
Anyway, I ramble on, and really all I want is people to talk to (I want to shout it from rooftops, but we are not telling anyone yet-that will be a drama in itself) and I want to also go through this with others pregnant at the same time.
So.. join in, reach out.. talk to me!
Best wishes ladies (6weeks1day)

I was out list night at a neighbour's with a couple of friends, I said I had a UTI to explain the not drinking, couldn't escape until gone 11.30... today is going to be loooong with the little people! Hope everyone gets some chill time this weekend.

@Sugarcube84 i completely get this… I can’t work out what point to do an early scan this time. We had a HB last time at 8.2 but then at 12 weeks no heartbeat. I might go 7 weeks and 10 weeks possibly.
Hope everyone is enjoying a bit of a lay in this morning ♥️

I don’t think we are going to have any unless I cave and do the nipt with a scan.

is anyone planning on a private nipt? I just don’t want the stress of coming back high risk because of my age and then worrying for the probably 2 weeks to wait for the nhs nipt

Hopingrae · 13/09/2025 09:31

@sugarcube84 we're planning to do a private NIPT around 10 weeks if we get that far. With DS2 I got a higher risk result (when I was 40) of 1:28 from the 12 week screening blood test and had a very worrying 2 weeks following that when we were referred to specialist midwives and decided to do NIPT over the amniocentesis. Thankfully all was clear but we said we couldn't go through that again so will get early NIPT and decline the screening blood test this time round.

@AnusernameWelcome!
congratulations. I know the early days are a drag aren’t they! X

@Hopingrae @Sugarcube84 also considering a private NIPT. Going to wait and see what we are offered on the NHS first as we have a genetic condition which I hold a mosaic for. Last pregnancy we were referred to genetics but I didn’t make it as far as finding out options (I don’t think a NIPT will work as I hold a mosaic so it will be within my genetic makeup).

Is anyone taking anything on top of folic acid?

BabyBorn · 13/09/2025 18:44

Hi Ladies,

I am 40 pregnant with my 4th. I was also wondering about when to do a NIPT test. I have never done one before. I had a scan last week at the EPU and all looked ok. Had hoped to have a private scan at around 10 weeks but thought I might save some money if I book it with a NIPT. Anyone else know what they are doing yet? 🥴 I am currently 7 weeks xx

Hopingrae · 14/09/2025 08:25

@CTTat I'm just taking Pregnacare which has folic acid in it. I only bought it because it was on offer in Tesco, I think last time I had a pot of folic acid and that was fine! :D when are you likely to hear re NHS testing you'll be offered? I guess it would be a different type of blood test for your specific mosaic would it?
@BabyBorn welcome! Great that you've been seen by epu and things seem to be progressing as they should, that must be a relief? I'll be doing NIPT at 10 weeks.

BabyBorn · 14/09/2025 15:40

Hi @Hopingrae yes it is a relief. Such a long way to go yet too 🥴 Yes I was thinking of doing the NIPT and having a scan on the same day at 10 weeks too! Will you be having a scan too or just the NIPT?

Hopingrae · 14/09/2025 18:23

@BabyBorn we're going privately for the NIPT and the clinic does a scan as part of the package.

BabyBorn · 14/09/2025 18:49

Oh great. That’s what I was looking at too. It’s around £400 with a scan where I am.

Hopingrae · 15/09/2025 16:12

6+4 today and I feel like my nausea has ramped up a bit and feeling really tired... my energetic 3 year old is wearing me down :D How's everyone else doing?

Sugarcube84 · 15/09/2025 16:25

I’ve phoned in sick 🤢 I started my anti sickness meds a week ago but this morning I was wiped out and didn’t think I’d manage the hour commute. So work know, earlier than I’d like but they were very supportive last time with my mmc so no concerns about them knowing. They’ve already talked about part time working or home working to help if I can’t manage full time. Just playing it day by day for now.

Hopingrae · 15/09/2025 17:00

@sugarcube84 Oh no, poor you! Phoning in sick sounds like the right move, hope you've managed to get a rest? What meds are you on? I've been prescribed cyclizine but haven't picked it up yet. That's really good your work are flexible and supportive, that's definitely what you need! I ended up being signed off for a few weeks with DS2 and it was definitely the right thing to do for me, see how you go but that's always an option too if that's what you need.

Sugarcube84 · 15/09/2025 17:27

@Hopingrae ive had Hyperemesis before so started anti sickness meds early I’m on xonvea which I’ve got left over from my mmc managed with 1 tablet a day until now but upping it to 2.

Had cyclizine twice before with my first it did nothing with my second I carried on as normal with no time off at all.

BabyBorn · 15/09/2025 17:35

Hi All, my nausea has ramped up too 🥴 gone off all my healthy regular foods and want random rubbish 😭 went shopping today and limited all rubbish that I bought so hopefully I can get back on track with my healthy eating. Feel so bloated.

I don’t know how you do it @Hopingraemy 3 year old has just started nursery full time! 🥴😂😂

CTTat · 15/09/2025 18:56

Hugs to all you girlies feeling nausea ♥️
listen to your bodies and rest when you can I know that can be impossible sometimes!

Hopingrae · 17/09/2025 19:49

@BabyBorn DS1 is in nursery 3 days a week so not all bad! I'm actually still on mat leave for DS2, he's starting nursery in November. Feels a bit weird knowing I'm pregnant before I've gone back to work but at least the nauseous stage can be dealt with at home!
Breathing through my mouth when feeding my 11 month old his mushy meals atm, blurgh 😅

Has anyone had their booking appointment yet? I haven't registered with midwives yet, was going to wait until after scan at 8 weeks. Trying to stay positive and also not think too far ahead. GP has it on record as I've got my anti nausea meds so someone knows 😬

BabyBorn · 18/09/2025 13:29

Hi @Hopingrae wow! You have small age gaps! 🤣 my LO was in nursery 3 days a week but we upped to to 5 in September. She loves it and was so ready to up her days I think. Yes, good that you are home for the days and weeks of nausea. Awful isn’t it.

I haven’t had mine booking in appointment either. I self referred last week after an early scan and it’s been 6 working days and I’ve heard nothing!! 🥴

I understand how you feel totally, trying to take every day as it comes. I’ve been looking into having a NIPT test soon. Was hoping to have the Natera Panorama test but the clinic I usually use don’t do it! 🥴

CTTat · 18/09/2025 13:50

@Hopingrae i think I’m going to refer in tomorrow to midwife’s…

we had a very very early scan this morning as I had a lot of right sided pain. Good news is the gestational sack with a small yolk was in the right place. And we also had a second possible sack that was half the size of the first sack. Back in 2 weeks to hopefully see a heartbeat and see if second sack has grown or been absorbed….

BabyBorn · 18/09/2025 14:15

Congratulations @CTTat how far along are you? It’s so nice to get that early reassurance isn’t it.

CTTat · 18/09/2025 18:09

BabyBorn · 18/09/2025 14:15

Congratulations @CTTat how far along are you? It’s so nice to get that early reassurance isn’t it.

Only 5 weeks so very early but happy it’s all in the right place 🥰

Hopingrae · 18/09/2025 19:17

@BabyBorn we did up DS1s sessions at nursery when I was in third trimester last time so we might do that again! I've not heard of a natera panorama test, is that a blood test?
@CTTat that must be a relief that everything is in the right place and you're going back to check on progress. Did they say what the one sided pain might be?

BabyBorn · 18/09/2025 19:28

Wow @CTTat glad they are going to re scan you! I had an ectopic rupture years ago so EPU see me early. I’m sure you will see a heartbeat in two weeks and possibly two!! 😅

@Hopingraethe Natera Panorama is a specific NIPT test they also tests for Triploidy which no other test tests. I’ve had a partial molar pregnancy last year, so wanted to just check.
My LO is almost like the only child with my eldest being 20 and middle being 13, so she really likes the interaction at nursery so I upped the days. It feels so strange with her not being here in the week now but she’s gotten into a nice little routine. x

BabyBorn · 18/09/2025 19:31

Forgot to mention, I had right sided niggling pains too but I ovulated from my right side this time so I’m thinking it may have been the Corpus Luteum collapsing back down.

CTTat · 18/09/2025 20:19

@BabyBorn @Hopingrae i also ovulated from right side so could have been that causing the pains. The could see a small area of bleeding on that side not in my womb outside it. She got a second opinion and apparently nothing to be concerned about but maybe causing the pains?! Not really sure…

I feel like pregnancy is so uncertain there’s so many things that could be if that makes sense?
