Wow, where to start. I’m 40, have two children DS-8 & DD-13, and I found out last week that I’m pregnant with number 3. My cycle has been pretty irregular for years and we gave up ‘trying’ for a third around 4 years ago. Almost immediately, the day I turned 40 I started to experience peri-menopausal symptoms and my cycle regulated itself, so for the last 6-7 months we have been ‘careful’-cue a few too many Rum and Cokes and some excellent sunshine and relaxation
in a hot country and whoosh, a swimmer took the lead during our holiday in early August. I’m anxious, and I’m excited all at the same time. I’m experiencing some odd symptoms-period like pains (haven’t had these since I was a teen), cravings for things I don’t normally like (didn’t get cravings til near the end with first two), and I’m ho**y as hell (sorry TMI). My back ache is always there, I’m no twiggy and I’m defo no spring chicken, but the tummy pains are worrying me. Is anyone else finding it much harder to ‘sign on’ with midwife than ever before and I can’t go to EPU without a referral. 9 years ago I just walked into GP and told them I was pregnant and was seen within days!
Anyway, I ramble on, and really all I want is people to talk to (I want to shout it from rooftops, but we are not telling anyone yet-that will be a drama in itself) and I want to also go through this with others pregnant at the same time.
So.. join in, reach out.. talk to me!
Best wishes ladies (6weeks1day)

Just had my NIPT results back and they were all clear. I think I was a bit more nervous about it than I realised! Feeling relieved. Also found out we're having a girl, which I can't believe!! Was so convinced it'd be another boy. I'm not sure I'll believe it until I see it on a scan or in real life when baby is born 🤣

2tobe3 · 21/10/2025 13:56

Congratulations!
lots of people seem to be saying they are finding out gender at 12 week scan. I thought this was too early?!?! Mine is booked for when I’m 13 weeks, so maybe they will be able to tell for me too! x

@2tobe3 thank you! This was through the NIPT blood test which I had done privately. NIPT screens for the trisomies from 10w pregnant, it's much more accurate then the screening blood test the NHS offers at 12w scan (I had a high risk result on nhs screening last time and couldn't go through that again, so we chose to do NIPT early). Within the blood test they can also find out the sex of the baby based on chromosomes in the blood, which we opted to do. You're right, I don't think they can tell you the sex of the baby at the 12w scan from the scan alone!

BabyBorn · 21/10/2025 15:04

@HopingraeCongratulations on your baby girl! So glad all came back good for you! How long did you have to wait for your results? I used Concepto Labs and had bloods done on the 13th, they arrived at the lab on the 15th and I’m still waiting! I had the absolute test done so they test for micro deletions too. I’m worried it’s taking so long! X

Hopingrae · 21/10/2025 15:57

@BabyBorn thank you! Sorry you're still waiting, I hope it's not much longer for you. I was only waiting 3 working days which I was really surprised about. I thought it would be longer! We only had the screening for the 3 trisomies though so perhaps that's why it was quicker, we got it done through Ultrasound Direct and that's all that was offered. The test was analysed by TDL Genetics according to the results. Did they give you any indication of what the turn around time might be?

BabyBorn · 21/10/2025 19:35

Hiya! Thanks for this! They finally came through at something past 4 this afternoon! All looks good and I’ve got my 12 week scan tomorrow! X

Hopingrae · 21/10/2025 21:38

@BabyBorn great news and good luck with your scan tomorrow!

Hopingrae · 30/10/2025 15:37

Hi ladies, how are you guys doing? Has anyone reached their NHS scan?! Hope nausea/ sickness/ tiredness is starting to ease for those who've been suffering!

I had my NHS scan on Tuesday and all was OK which was good, measuring on track at 12+5 so my EDD is 7th May. I've been feeling less nauseous in the last few days again and finally feeling like I've got a bit of energy...although my 12 month old isn't sleeping great so that's not helpful! But it's been nice to share the news with a couple of people. I think I'll probably book another private scan for around 16 weeks. Anyone else?!

BabyBorn · 30/10/2025 16:30

Hey@Hopingraemy nausea has gone now! Had my scan a week Wednesday. EDD is 1st of May! I’ve shared the news with a few people too 🥰 there’s quite a few that I’m going to leave until 20 weeks though! I’m thinking about having a scan at around 16 weeks too! Have you felt any flutters yet? I was told that my placenta is anterior so the kicks could be cushioned for a while yet 🥴🥴 xx

Hopingrae · 30/10/2025 16:53

@BabyBorn that's great re the nausea! Such a relief isn't it. Yes I think some people I'll just tell if I see them but won't make any big announcements. I did tell my manager this week, I'm still on maternity leave with my son so I had to share that I'd probably only be back for 4 months and then be off again! She took it well!! Haha. I've definitely felt some teeny tiny "bubbles" which is lovely! I was told my placenta is right anterior so I guess it must have been on the left I felt it! Glad all is going well! Xx

BabyBorn · 30/10/2025 16:59

Hiya! That’s brilliant about your manager taking it well! Fab. I’m not telling some people because they then tend to ask all the time 😂😂 and I’ve been enjoying the peace of people not knowing in a way!! I’ve done a little Halloween themed announcement for my close friends and family.

That’s lovely you have felt movement! I thought I did on Sunday but nothing since! I think mines right anterior too!!

I am in Tenerife until Sunday so trying to enjoy the weather before coming back to the freezing UK!! 🥴🥴😂 xx

Hopingrae · 30/10/2025 18:24

@BabyBorn ahh lovely, have a great holiday!! I can't believe how many people have asked "was it planned?" when I've told them I'm pregnant! Must be a number 3 thing?! Anyway, the last couple of people I told I said "I'm having a baby" instead of "I'm pregnant" and they've been full of delight and not asked if it was planned so I think I'll say that from now on 😂

BabyBorn · 30/10/2025 19:46

Really @Hopingraewow! 😂😂 thanks for the heads up then as I might use that one then! Ha ha. That’s crazy too because you already have a little one, or maybe it’s because of the close age gap? That’s why they might not think it was planned that way!! 😂😂 xx

Hopingrae · 31/12/2025 11:02

Hey ladies, I know this thread's gone a bit quiet, I just thought I'd check in to see who is still around and how you're doing if anyone wants to jump back on? Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I'm 22 weeks tomorrow, it's going so quickly. Think having 2 little ones makes it hard to notice all the time! I've been feeling pretty good this second trimester but yesterday I pulled my back pulling my leggings up and now struggling to do up my shoes and pick up my 14 month old! It's a bit better today but bloody typical 😅 just at the hospital waiting for my first consultant appointment for being pregnant over 40...it's actually a nice bit of me time away from the little peeps! 🤣

BabyBorn · 31/12/2025 16:48

Hi @Hopingrae nice to see you posting on here! I was 22 weeks on Saturday. Like you, I feel time is flying!! I have a 3 year old that keeps me busy!
sorry to hear you’ve hurt your back, sounds like it should heal pretty quickly if it’s improved already. I’m just getting over the flu! It’s been 2.5 weeks now and it’s been really getting me down. Very slowly improving. Should have had the flu jab but didn’t and my little one came home with it. 🥴
Have you had problems in other pregnancies? I’m 40 too and apart from having to see a consultant at 12 weeks I don’t think they see me again unless there is a problem! They just told me that because I am 40 I will need extra scans later on on my pregnancy and they won’t allow me to go too overdue! Xx

Hopingrae · 01/01/2026 19:59

@BabyBorn hey, nice to hear back from you! Oh no, sorry to hear you've had the flu! Seems to be affecting a lot of people at the moment. Hope you start to feel better soon, must really take it out of you when you're pregnant. I've had the flu jab so hoping I avoid it!
No I've not had problems in previous pregnancies or births and I'm generally healthy! They've said they want to induce me at 40 weeks which I wasn't sure about at first but actually I think it could help with childcare planning for my other two, so trying to take it as a positive! I've got extra scans for 32 weeks and 36 weeks, it'll come round quick! Xx

BabyBorn · 01/01/2026 20:18

Hi @Hopingrae Happy New Year! Yes, hoping to get over this quickly. It’s already been almost 3 weeks on Tuesday! It’s been really bad! 😩
I agree about how fast it will go for us! Do you know what you are having? I won’t let them induce me. I know I won’t be too much over anyway as I feel when I ovulate so it’s only 2 days out! I am hoping to have a home birth if possible. Pretty scared to be honest! X

2tobe3 · 08/04/2026 21:31

Hi all; thought I would check in on the thread I started, having gone very quiet. It’s been a difficult pregnancy and it’s taken its toll on me and my relationship. I’ve just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (35 weeks) and I’m struggling….
how is everyone else doing?

OP posts:
Hopingrae · 09/04/2026 10:38

@2tobe3 hey, so sorry you've been having a difficult pregnancy. Have you had any outside support with things? Do you have to be on a special diet now for GD? Does that change anything re delivery plans? I've had a couple of friends get it in pregnancy and their babies were born absolutely fine, was just a bit of a pain to manage. I guess you don't need it on top of everything else! Poor you.

I'm 36 weeks today. I've got a growth scan later, will be nice to see little one briefly (they tend to be really quick scans so don't get to see much!). I've got a consultant appt next week where there'll book induction for 40 weeks. Compared to last pregnancy with DS2 I feel like I've had a good pregnancy, although I had a couple of bouts of bad anxiety in the last couple of weeks which have been difficult. Feeling better last few days but taking it a day at a time. Also feel like I should be more organised with things too, but going to get my arse in gear and try and finish some bits off! My boys are wearing me out a lot, they're off nursery this week but will be back in next week so that should help.

BabyBorn · 09/04/2026 16:00

Hi ladies!

Sorry to hear you are struggling @2tobe3Will you have to have a C Section with having GD then or not? Are they scanning you to check babies size? Sorry to hear it’s taken a toll on your relationship. Hopefully that will improve when you are not pregnant.

Hi @Hopingrae same as me really. Had my growth scan at 35 weeks and 5 and baby was measuring 7lb 3. Of course we know that these scans are not always that accurate! I have my last scan on the 22nd of April. They have tried to have two conversations about induction because of my age but because I know when I ovulate, my babies always come on time and there’s only a day in it between my dates and NHS date so it will be fine. Everywhere seems so eager to to induce of have a section these days! Drives me crazy. My kids are also off school and nursery and it’s been far too long for my youngest to be off! 😂😂 she did holiday camp for 4 days last week too but they weren’t running this week. 😮‍💨🤭 I am almost sorted with things. Will get much more done next week when she’s back at nursery! Had my homebirth team come out last week to do an assessment! All went well and I have my birthing pool ready to blow up next week!! Scared and excited all at the same time! Xx

BabyBorn · 09/04/2026 16:01

Good luck with your scan today! Let us know how it goes! X

Hopingrae · 09/04/2026 19:09

@BabyBorn the scan went well thanks! Estimated on 43rd centile at 6lb 1 currently, so hopefully will stay fairly average! I don't have any more scans, I'm seeing consultant next week where they'll be booking me in for induction at 40 weeks. I was in 2 minds at first but we actually felt it would help us out with child care planning if we have a fixed date (assuming she doesn't come early!).
Ahh that's nice that you're planning a home birth, have you done that before? I had a bit of a rough time with DS1 labour and born so feel a bit safer in the hospital for my own wellbeing but I've had a few friends who've had home births and they've worked out really well.

BabyBorn · 10/04/2026 21:57

Hey @Hopingraeif your scan is accurate that will be a nice weight! I had my scan at 35 weeks and 4 days and mine was estimated to be 7lb 3 🥴 have you had an induction before? My consultant tried to discuss having one but I told him it won’t be necessary.

I have never had a home birth before no. It’s my first time ever even considering it. 3 weeks to go! It has not quite sunk in yet!!

Hopingrae · 11/04/2026 08:40

@BabyBorn no I've not had induction before. I think I feel OK with it being third baby. I think you 100% just have to do what you're comfortable with, I wouldn't book one in for DS2 and he ended up coming a few days early anyway! I've got a sweep booked with MW for 39+6, who knows of they actually work or not! I had one with DS1 and he came 48 hours later but I was overdue anyway.
I've found this week with my boys emotionally and physically exhausting, hoping to finish off some sorting next week when they're back at nursery!

Hopingrae · 30/04/2026 17:16

@BabyBorn @2tobe3 how are you ladies doing??
I'm 39 weeks today and mostly lying on the sofa with occasional small bursts of activity like...washing up or making the bed! Sooo knackered, I don't remember it being so so energy sapping at the end before!!
I had an overnight stay in hospital on Friday, thought I was in labour (I'm wasn't) so went in for an assessment. I was so anxious which made by blood pressure shoot up, so they diagnosed me with pregnancy induced hypertension and put me on meds. Feeling a bit irked by this, I'm monitoring my BP at home and it's completely normal and all my community MW readings have been fine too. Didn't feel overly holistic, and means I won't be able to go in the pool or midwife led unit as they want continuous monitoring. Just feels a bit out of my control! My DH is trying to reassure me that they're just erring on the side of caution. I guess in a few weeks I won't even remember or care about any of this either! Sigh.
@BabyBorn how was your last scan? Is your pool all set up at home now?!
