Wow, where to start. I’m 40, have two children DS-8 & DD-13, and I found out last week that I’m pregnant with number 3. My cycle has been pretty irregular for years and we gave up ‘trying’ for a third around 4 years ago. Almost immediately, the day I turned 40 I started to experience peri-menopausal symptoms and my cycle regulated itself, so for the last 6-7 months we have been ‘careful’-cue a few too many Rum and Cokes and some excellent sunshine and relaxation
in a hot country and whoosh, a swimmer took the lead during our holiday in early August. I’m anxious, and I’m excited all at the same time. I’m experiencing some odd symptoms-period like pains (haven’t had these since I was a teen), cravings for things I don’t normally like (didn’t get cravings til near the end with first two), and I’m ho**y as hell (sorry TMI). My back ache is always there, I’m no twiggy and I’m defo no spring chicken, but the tummy pains are worrying me. Is anyone else finding it much harder to ‘sign on’ with midwife than ever before and I can’t go to EPU without a referral. 9 years ago I just walked into GP and told them I was pregnant and was seen within days!
Anyway, I ramble on, and really all I want is people to talk to (I want to shout it from rooftops, but we are not telling anyone yet-that will be a drama in itself) and I want to also go through this with others pregnant at the same time.
So.. join in, reach out.. talk to me!
Best wishes ladies (6weeks1day)

Hey can I join in too, 8 weeks today with a very surprising 3rd pregnancy. Had early scan yesterday as had no clue about dates. All looking well so far, so fingers crossed. I am going to book NIPT private as where I live they don't offer 12 week tests anyway. Just can't wait to get to that stage and then I feel I will be able to breathe. Ps I'm 41 with a 6 and 8 year old. Was just tasting freedom again 🙈

BabyBorn · 19/09/2025 08:57

Morning ladies,

Yes @CTTat so many weird and wonderful things can happen in pregnancy. It makes sense for it to be a CL though as it’s just like a big cyst that disappears before 12 weeks of pregnancy I believe. Small bleeds found on scans are quite common it seems, I’ve never had one but I read about them so often. Glad it’s nothing to worry about and hopefully it will disappear soon.

Welcome @Beyondbeliefsometimes I did it the wrong way too by having massive age gaps between mine but, it has been lovely and I’ve been able to have quality time with all of them. I don’t think I would have enjoyed parenthood as much if I had them close together as personally I don’t think I could have coped! Just so blessed I have been lucky enough to fall pregnant with each and every one of them and now this one. Nice that you’ve had an early scan. I am 8 weeks too. I found out 10DPO and time is just flying!

CTTat · 19/09/2025 14:02

@Beyondbeliefsometimes that’s a lovely gap… my boys are 7 & 9 so if all goes well a similar gap. My eldest will be 18 when this bubba arrives!

How many weeks is everyone being booked in for their midwife apps?

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 19/09/2025 21:05

Thanks @BabyBornand @CTTat

Midwife booking appointments are way behind where I live, most aren't getting seen until closer to 15 weeks. The Waiting lists in NHS her is absolutely shocking. But I guess they have no push on it as they don't do any of the first trimester tests.

I'm hoping with the age gap that the older ones will be a great help. It definitely was tough going when my two were younger together. But now I watch their bond and shared interests and am worried this wee one will be on its own. I do remember crying for weeks upon weeks before my 2nd was born that there was no way I could love her as much as my first lol I can confirm that was an unfounded worry and hope this one is too.

Hopingrae · 20/09/2025 08:30

@Beyondbeliefsometimes welcome and congrats! That's so nice to have got a first scan out the way too. I've got a private scan when I'll be 8 weeks on Thursday and if things are looking OK I'll register with midwife after that. My DC2 is only 11 months and when I was pregnant with him I think I got seen for booking appt around 8/9 weeks so I'll be a bit later this time.
We're away with family this weekend and everyone is out at park run this morning apart from me and bubs as he's napping... so I'm having a bath and reading my book, omg the luxury!! 🤣
Happy weekend to you guys!

Anusername · 24/09/2025 12:39

How is everyone doing? I’m almost 7 weeks and felt that the constant tiredness, nausea, and backache so hard. I’m also working five days in the office and am hesitating whether to tell work so I can wfh for a couple of weeks… are you ladies also work full time?

Hopingrae · 26/09/2025 08:04

@Anusername nausea and work can be a really tough combo! So horrible. I'm actually still on mat leave atm, in my last pregnancy I told my managers I was pregnant around 8 weeks I think as I was really struggling and they were very supportive and reduced my clinical duties so I could work from home more (I have a clinical role in NHS). In the end I was signed off for about 6 weeks I think, it was nausea rather than sickness but I could barely get out of bed. I was given cyclizine by the GP, it doesn't work for everyone but did take the edge off and meant I could look after my toddler! So you could see if your GP can help? It's the worst, hopefully it'll ease after 1st trimester but I know that probably feels like forever away right now!

I had my private scan yesterday, measuring at 8 weeks exactly and lovely strong heartbeat. The relief was immense, we're booking NIPT for 11 weeks. The sonographer said it's quite common for NIPT at 10 weeks to have an insufficient sample so it has to be repeated anyway...3 weeks to go.

Anusername · 26/09/2025 12:05

@Hopingrae great news on your 8-week scan! I told my manager yesterday and I just turned 7 week today. I’m debating whether to get signed off or not. Last pregnancy was worse and I was bed bound for two weeks so I had no choice but to be signed off. This time I think it comes as waves so I do get some moments when I’m ‘normal’ throughout the day. It’s difficult but I’m still managing… how are your symptoms now? Are you thinking about getting signed off too?

Sugarcube84 · 26/09/2025 16:01

I’ve been signed off the last 2 weeks, not my first rodeo I’ve had Hyperemesis before, the xonvea is good stuff but still very nauseous and feel really tired and ill. Managing small bits to eat and drink though so that’s better than before.

Anusername · 26/09/2025 19:35

@Sugarcube84 which two weeks are the hardest for you? I also had hyperemesis in my previous pregnancy and I knew how difficult it was. I was signed off from 7-9 weeks I think and then worked from home from 9-11 weeks. It was so hard. I’m only 7 weeks now and fingers crossed it won’t get that hard this time.

Sugarcube84 · 26/09/2025 19:44

in this one week 6-7 with my last one probably 8-9 with my first week 6-20 but I wasn’t looked after or taken seriously by my doctors. With my second I had anti sickness tablets prescribed and advised to take them from a positive test which made a massive difference.

same with this pregnancy I started the tablets before the sickness kicked in and it’s been no where near as bad as my first

BabyBorn · 27/09/2025 07:31

Sorry to hear of you ladies suffering so much with nausea. It’s awful isn’t it. I was terrible with my 3 other pregnancies but this one doesn’t seem to be half as bad….yet!! I didn’t ever go to the doctors to be prescribed anything in my other pregnancies. Luckily I was able to stay at home and ride it out. Spent most of my days lying on the sofa waiting for it to pass, not able to do much at all. It’s the worst part of pregnancy for sure!

Hopingrae · 28/09/2025 08:39

@Anusername I'm actually still on maternity leave with DS2 so at least I'm not having to worry about dealing with work too. Although I'm worrying a bit about telling them I'll be going on mat leave again in a few months but that's another story 😂my nausea has got gradually stronger over the last few days, I remember this from time. Hoping it starts improving by week 13/14 again 🙏
@sugarcube84 that's so good that the xonovea is working for you and you can at least eat a small amount. Feel for you, I hope it starts to improve in the not too distant future.

Hopingrae · 04/10/2025 08:25

How's everyone doing this weekend? I feel like my nausea is backing off a bit which is making me uneasy, I'm still only 9+2. Bloody knackered all the time though so maybe that covers it?!

I had my midwife booking appointment on Thurs, can't believe the extras as I'm over 40. I have to take asprin from 12-36 weeks as I'm 40+, anyone else been told this?? Also going to see consultant and get 3 extra scans (which is quite nice). Can't believe it's going to be that different a pregnancy to my last one 12-18 months ago!! But hey...

BabyBorn · 04/10/2025 08:33

Morning @Hopingrae

Exactly the same here! My nausea is wearing off at 10 weeks 1 day. Well, it pretty much stopped on Tuesday. Strange and making me feel uneasy too 🥴

Had my booking appointment on Monday and midwife said I may need to take aspirin from 12 weeks too! She said they would decide at my 12 week scan! I will also get 3 extra scans. 32 weeks, 36 and 40. I was a bit shocked too. I was 40 in March. Xx

Hopingrae · 04/10/2025 09:11

Hi @BabyBorn oh that's interesting, nice to know we're in the same boat! It's nice in some ways that it's eased off but also reassuring when it's there! I've done some googling (God knows what we did before Google! Ha) and it doesn't seem that unusual for nausea to stop or lessen around now. In my 2 previous full term pregnancies it went on until 14-15 weeks so guess I was expecting the same again!
In my last pregnancy I conceived at 39 so got no extras even though I was 40 for most of the pregnancy. This time I'm 41 throughout! We've crossed the magic line in the sand for older mum support! 😀 re asprin, my midwife just handed me 400 asprin tablets in the appointment to start taking at 12 weeks!!

BabyBorn · 04/10/2025 09:23

@Hopingrae Yes, I was expecting the nausea to last until 13-14 weeks too like my last 3 pregnancies. Maybe it will come back though!! Nothing surprises me in pregnancy anymore! 😂😂 The placenta usually takes over anywhere from 9 weeks which can reduce nausea.

I know our NHS trust have had a huge amount of changes just recently so perhaps that’s why you were not offered aspirin before?! We now have an App called Badger Notes instead of folder with all the pregnancy related paperwork in. I was pregnant last November but unfortunately it wasn’t viable and they were working with the old system as I was given a maternity folder etc so these changes are very recent x

Sugarcube84 · 09/10/2025 16:55

How’s everyone feeling? I’m 10+5 and had a scan today so reassuring after my mmc at 9 weeks in feb, just got to wait for our nipt results now.

BabyBorn · 09/10/2025 18:53

Hi @Sugarcube84thats lovely. Glad you’ve had a little reassurance. It’s always much needed after loss isn’t it! 😘 Are you finding out the sex via NIPT too? I’m having my NIPT on Monday. Really nervous. I had a reassurance scan this Monday and I was measuring 10 weeks 5 days and all looked good. It’s going very slowly but very quickly in some regards too! x

Sugarcube84 · 09/10/2025 19:07

@BabyBorn we ticked the box to find out apparently it comes in a different document do we can always change our minds, just hoping everything is ok with the results now.

my dh had the cheek to say how quick it’s gone, not to me who’s been suffering with hg 🤣

Herewegoagain40 · 09/10/2025 20:16

Can I join? I'm 40, I've got three kids aged 9, 5 and 3. I'm 8 weeks, had an early scan today and all looked fine. I'm actually really struggling. This pregnancy was planned after two losses but I've had huge doubts. I think I'm just exhausted by it all. I'm kind of hoping joining a little community on here might help me feel more tuned in to the pregnancy ❤️

Hopingrae · 09/10/2025 20:51

@sugarcube84 that's lovely news! Must have been a relief after your MMC. Did they say how long the NIPT will take to come back? Hope you're not waiting too long. How are you coping with the HG?

@BabyBorn sending you positive vibes for Monday. Hopefully we'll all have some good news to share with scans and NIPTs soon! :)

I'm 10 weeks today and I've got my next scan and NIPT next Thurs. We'd like to know the gender so will tick the box too! Feels like it might be a long week. After saying my nausea has eased off its been back with gusto the last couple of days and I've felt really rough. I've definitely got a small bump already, I'm hoping that means bubs is growing OK in there.

@Herewegoagain40 welcome to the thread and congrats on your new pregnancy. So glad you got good news at your scan today. Sorry you're struggling a bit at the mo. I felt quite similar when I was pregnant with my DS2 after 2 MMCs, it all felt too much emotionally. I did start to feel better as the pregnancy went along and past the first trimester worries and sickness.

Sugarcube84 · 09/10/2025 21:46

@Hopingrae I’m hanging in there just accepting I need to take the time off work and rest

They said 7 working days so to ring next Friday if I hadn’t heard

hope everything goes well and the nausea eases again, have you had your booking in appointment yet? I’ve got mine Monday but no date for my 12 week scan yet

Herewegoagain40 · 09/10/2025 22:26

Is everyone paying for NIPTs or are they offered by the NHS? I'm considering getting one but assuming I'll have to pay. I'd like to get it before my 12 week scan.

Thanks @Hopingrae I think I had kind of mentally moved on from the idea of having another baby after the two losses and now it feels like something I need to adjust to again. I'm hoping I'll start to feel happier over the next month or so, I think the early pregnancy hormones just have an awful effect on me!

BabyBorn · 10/10/2025 02:43

Welcome @Herewegoagain40 great news on your early scan. I’m sure you will sail through this one now. I had 3 miscarriages before this one and it was so tough. I’ve been anxious the whole time. I understand what you are saying about the doubts as I get them every pregnancy! It’s always around weeks 8-10 or so. I’m pretty sure it’s hormones. It’s a horrible time to go through but it will pass. If it doesn’t then speak to your midwife. Yes you have to pay privately for a NIPT and the only time you don’t is if something comes up on your 12 week scan and screening results and you need further testing. That’s when they will offer you a NIPT.

Oh no @Sugarcube84 what a nightmare with the HG. I had been feeling a little nauseous too but nothing like my previous pregnancies! I’ve been quite lucky this time around. I hope it passes for you soon. There is nothing worse than feeling sick! Urrgghhh. Let us know when you get your NIPT results! You must be so excited to find out the sex!! We are leaving it a surprise this time which we have never done before so it’s going to be a weird one for us. Well me, as my husband is chilled about it and would have rather waited until the birth the previous times but I just had to know 😂😂 I had my booking appointment nearly two weeks ago now and they booked my 12 week scan a few days after. So might be what they do in some trusts. My 12 week scan is on the 22nd of October. I should have had my NIPT results back by then like you.

Good luck for your scan @Hopingrae i am sure all will be good. I lost all of my symptoms too, for a whole 6 days I had nothing. I booked a private scan to check all was ok and baby was bouncing away happily. The day after that boom my symptoms were back! Blinking hormones!! They’ve been mild though this time compared to my other 3 so it’s not been too bad overall. Let us know how your NIPT test goes and so exciting you are finding out the sex! x
