@Casper94 I honestly have no idea how you're managing to work through it!! I've had bad nausea and sickness since week 6 and been signed off but today as I've hit week 9 it's got soooo much worse 🤢 I can't even get off my sofa never mind think of working!! Bless you, I hope you make it through your shift!

worldwidetravel2017 · 06/08/2025 20:25

Midwife booking apt was 2.5 hours today - as my medical history = SO complex

Honestly the sickness hasn't been bad for me until the past couple of days where it's really ramped up! My probation period for this job finishes tomorrow so then I think I'll make the most of signing myself off if it doesn't get better 😅 just a hard one between taking care of myself but also being able to afford my ridiculous mortgage 🤣

PickleThePenguin · 06/08/2025 20:32

@peanutForever Good luck with your scan tomorrow!

I hadn't even thought about that issue if you're doing vaginal pessaries! But you've made made me also worried and DH absorbing it though me 😂

peanutForever · 07/08/2025 10:09

Saw my baby wave today - they have limbs now

LevelOneAgain · 07/08/2025 14:23

Got bloods today. Tips for managing nausea were pretty limited but were plain rich tea / digestive biscuits, ginger snaps, water and rest... Ate 2 digestives and not feeling any different but thought I'd share in case it helps anyone.

peanutForever · 07/08/2025 16:21

That’s amazing 🥰 it’s making me want another scan before my 12 weeks to make sure everything is ok

PickleThePenguin · 07/08/2025 16:37

@worldwidetravel2017 and @peanutForever wow how exciting! Glad your scans both went well 😊

Hopeloveandkindness · 07/08/2025 16:53

Hi all just wondering anyone is considering Nipt testing or does the standard screening test you get 11-14 weeks cover this? - first pregnancy- ivf

Casper94 · 07/08/2025 17:37

Ahhh congrats @worldwidetravel2017 and @peanutForever amazing news!

I have established my sickness is clearly afternoon/evening, was fine this morning and then bedridden again since 3pm, poor hubby is running around with our DD and I've got work again tonight 😬

We are going to pay for earlier and more detailed testing, which can be done privately earlier than the NHS.

The NHS one is done at 11-14 weeks and you only get the full, more detailed test if it comes back as a risk, by which time you could be 15+ weeks, leaving you less time to make any decisions/prepare. It’s a very personal choice (I know some people don’t have the screening at all) but/and we have a number of risk factors (age being the main one) hence paying for the detailed tests straight off. I need to research whether we have Panorama or there is an NIPT Absolute too.

Yes that’s what I’m thinking I want tests sooner rather than later if anything was wrong, we are north east based and the tests here are around £400 this includes a scan. Just not sure what to do.

Zephyr123 · 07/08/2025 18:35

How exciting! It’s lovely some of you have been able to see your babies.

I’m still not well with HG and managed to miss the GP prescription request by 10 minutes so hoping I don’t run out of tablets.

we have a scan booked tomorrow afternoon which I’m looking forward to.

Has anyone started looking into what they need to buy/borrow/source? There seems so much to get (appreciated not all necessary) as a FTM!

We have an early scan on Saturday. As I only have one fallopian tube anyway due to previous surgery, I just want reassurance!

I have no idea what to buy/source. I was hoping I’d find a master list somewhere! 🫣 I think Facebook marketplace and Vinted are going to feature heavily!

Ginnygi · 07/08/2025 18:45

Mumsnet is not for the faint hearted 🙈
Came across a shocking OP today, truly wish I could just stay on this thread because reading how people have zero understanding about raising kids is truly heartbreaking..
So happy for everyone's happy scans ❤️
I'm feeling a bit pessimistic today, like I do sometimes. Might have to book another scan, maybe end of next week 🤔

TheFutureIs · 07/08/2025 18:46

Newborns need very little;
a bedside cot, vests/babygro’s, hats, nappies, wipes, a carrier or pram and you’re pretty much set. I like to have a room thermometer and bath thermometer for reassurance (although hardly washed my first baby in the early days)

I always think it's best to get basics only, the minimal stuff you need because if you find you need something else e.g. more clothes, you can nip into shops and get more. I literally had everyone say they used a fraction of all they bought, including clothes.

IHaveItPrintedOut · 07/08/2025 18:49

Missed a call from the midwife last Wednesday and haven't heard back since 🫠🫠 Have rung the community office a couple of times but you can only leave a message. Suspect the midwife assigned to me is probably on annual leave or something, but I'm an anxious soul and have been waiting for my phone to ring for 9 days now...

Was this for arranging your booking appointment?

BigMoo85 · 07/08/2025 18:57

I got my appointment for my booking appointment when I called my community midwife hub. I also knew the midwife that did my booking appointment as she was my community midwife for my youngest two kids. I have my 12 week scan booked for 1st September and will have every test I am offered especially as I am at slightly higher risk because of my age.
