Got it!! Thanks, just requested to join, I'll not join the WhatsApp as group chats are always so hard to keep up with lol

AMMxx · 27/02/2025 05:49

Might be different as I had mine done privately but it just said very low risk for each of the conditions. It doesn’t give a “one in X” number for some reason.
sorry that’s probably not very helpful !

Thank you that’s really helpful to know! I was worried it wouldn’t be as clear as that. Mine’s private too so likely the same format.

Melusina123 · 27/02/2025 09:29

@Fluffydino21 @AMMxx this is what we got as well - I think it depends on which test specifically they use, but lots of them just come back with a High/Low answer I believe.

We need to tell my 19yr old this wknd as we’re away next week with family and they‘ll guess! We don’t want her to be the last to know.

We are very nervous of telling her, anyone have any tips? She didn’t take the news of us getting married well, although she’s ok now and close to my husband. This is going to be a whole new level of shock for her!

Same here. Requested to join.

@MrsH26 no really advice. But I would make sure she knows you are happy and also give her space to digest.

Does she still live with you?

I wouldn’t worry too much as 19 is an adult, with often times a job or uni, so their own live, that it might just be a happy announcement of a new family member. Was she much younger when you married?

MrsH26 · 27/02/2025 16:22

@MyGardenDaisies shes at uni, but home for placements in 6wk blocks.

and nope, we only got married in October 😂🙈
she’s been an only child for forever! She’s not spoilt in terms of physical things, but obviously has been in terms of my time

MangoLlama · 27/02/2025 21:06

I have regenerated a new link for the Facebook group since the old one has expired x

Those of you who have had 12 week scans, can I ask what else they do / check other than the combined screening?

Ive heard of the blood tests they do at this stage flagging low pap a and proteins and things but I really don’t know much about this and how serious it is.

Basically I’m still fighting to get a 12 week scan date.. currently a few days off 12 weeks. I’ve been told it will be more like 4 months when I can have the scan so no combined screening, but I have paid for the NIPT privately. I’m just wondering if there’s anything else I’m delaying / missing out on. Considering complaining to PALS.

thatmistylight · 01/03/2025 18:27

Can I join you? This is our first baby, I think I’m due around the 12th, which would put be at 12+1 I think?. I have my 12 week scan booked in for Monday, I haven’t had any early scans so it doesn’t feel real yet, even with all the symptoms and pregnancy tests.

MrsH26 · 01/03/2025 19:47

Told my 19yr old today.
Went better than expected!! There were no tears, so I’ll take that!

phew

They measure the fluid behind baby’s neck and the bloods as far as I know are just for the risk assessment for the chromosomal abnormalities

Fluffydino21 · 02/03/2025 17:23

@MyGardenDaisies thank you, that’s really helpful. It sounds like other than checking the baby is ok generally the main point at the scan is to check for chromosomal abnormalities so I guess if I accept I’m not getting that it doesn’t matter too much how close to 4 months it gets.

@MrsH26 well done! I bet you’re glad to have got that out the way

And welcome @thatmistylight

MyGardenDaisies · 02/03/2025 17:45

@Fluffydino21 yes the screening part is optional. Suppose if you haven’t yet had a private scan, the main point of 12 week NHS scan would be to find out how many babies there are, placenta position, check for heartbeat, look for any other fluids

This really doesn't sound right. Do you mind me asking which area of Newc you're in or where your midwife booking appointment was? The combined screening is only relevant for a short window of time - I'm pretty sure between 12-14 weeks, so if they leave it longer than this they can't give an accurate screening. I would be asking for confirmation that they will fund NIPT if they can't do the combined screening within the appropriate timeframe.

I'm also just really shocked though and think the issue must be with the MW as the RVI is pretty on it with the scan appoint a in my experience in both pregnancies

Indeed it is a weight lifted!!
she’s volunteered to buy all the noisy toys until I reminded her that she still lives with us half the time 😂

I'm glad she took it well. Ours hasn't. Being 18 with a baby sibling isn't cool apparently and people might think the baby is hers

Mol1820 · 02/03/2025 18:23

@Fluffydino21 I’m really surprised that they haven’t been able to book you in - I’ve not heard of any maternity wards not booking someone in between the 11-14 week mark so would definitely be putting some sort of inquiry forwards! If they miss the window for the combined screening I would definitely ask for a private one to be funded for you. Sorry to hear you’ve had such trouble with it all😣

Mol1820 · 02/03/2025 18:24

Welcome @thatmistylight! we have a WhatsApp group that a few of us are on if you wanted to join - let me know and I can send you the link to join x
