Hello! Thought I would start an October thread as technically my EDD is 2nd October. Ivf pregnancy so I know very early at 5dp5dt which is equivalent to 10dpo.

Anyone else know they are due in October yet?

@pumpkinpatches22 hey ! This exact thing happened to me in my last pregnancy. My child was diagnosed with IUGR and was born early and light but totally healthy. We just had a short hospital stay at birth to get their weight up. Feel free to message me if you want to talk about it ? :)

Thank you so much - that’s really kind. I’ve PM’d you xxx

Evening Ladies,
Hope everyone is ok and doing well.

We had our 20week scan today, everything is perfect, baby is measuring 70th percentile so I might have to have a gestational diabetes test.
I thought baby would be big - measured bigger at our first scan at 14weeks but I’ll be really shocked if I have GD. My husband has type 2 and we’re a low/no sugar household but I do love a carb (I’m a runner).

Found out the gender, baby is a Boy! I had all the boy symptoms but so did my sister and she has two girls so we had no idea which they would be.

Anyway, thought I’d pop a little update as I’ve seen a few posts about 20week scan.

emmatcc1 · 02/06/2025 21:32

@EEB1989 gestational diabetes is actually completely random and happens because insulin is used by the body differently while pregnant. I got told my sugar was high at the 8 week appointment and I’ve been having check ups every month for it and need to measure my sugars. Thankfully no issues so far.
But for those that actually have it and need to change their diet for it it’s pretty complicated. You have to stop eating white bread and regular pasta and you need to eat lots of veggies at lunch (50% of the plate + a salad on the side). Only allowed 2 fruits per day and need to have 5-6 meals.

EEB1989 · 02/06/2025 21:56

Oh thank you @emmatcc1 I had no idea. I’ve been tempted to google it but I’m holding off until they tell me I’ve 100% got to have the test.

The diet you described is exactly how my husband eats as a type two, it would be easy for me to adapt to that as I make all his meals.
I might struggle only eating two fruits - I love to sit and eat fruit whilst watching tv… keeps my hands busy! Lol, I might have to take up knitting, that’s what my sister did when she had GD with her second baby.

Givemethesun · 02/06/2025 21:58

Thanks for the updates and fingers crossed you don’t get GD as it sounds difficult with the diet.
I also had my 20 week scan today although we have to go back next week as baby was in an unhelpful position so the man couldn’t check everything!
We are having another girl which was what we were expecting due to my sickness (still vomitting now!) and also what we predicted from the nub theory at 12 weeks which is interesting.
hope everyone is feeling ok
how do we make a new thread when this one is full? :) x

CustardCream31 · 04/06/2025 09:26

How is everyone doing at the moment? 🙂

I’ve had the dreaded SPD hit me now 😩😩 19+4 today… agony doing the school walk this morning and fills me with dread as had it from about now (perhaps a little later on actually) until birth last time. Wahhhh.

Feeling overly emotional this week about stuff too. Hubs and I joked that I’d been relatively sane and balanced until now 🤪 despite what the pregnancy apps warn each week lol. And now the pain is going to make it feel worse. She’ll be worth it when she’s here, I know 💖

EEB1989 · 04/06/2025 12:36

Sorry, what’s SDP? It doesn’t sound nice.

@Givemethesun ive no idea how to create a new thread, I think we just start a thread but name it Due October 2025 part 2 or something. I’m on the September one and they’ve got a 2nd thread.

I posted on that one as I wanted advice from people further along but now the news is out I can ask friends etc.

Symphysis pubis dysfunction - crippling pain when walking and feeling as if lower back/pelvis is about the break 🫠 I’ve taken it easier the last couple of days and it’s not as bad as it was the other day - nearly had me in tears!

Yes I think it’s just a case of a new thread with that name isn’t it 🙂 can’t believe we’ve nearly filled it up! Valuable advice and listening ears, for sure 💛

BeSunnyPinkBiscuit · 11/06/2025 22:49

Today I had my second test for gestational diabetes and it was clear! So pleased and relieved 😊 my last pregnancy I had it so I really thought it would be the same again. One less thing for the consultant to be worried about also.

BloomingOrchidea · 11/06/2025 23:21

@pumpkinpatches22 @lolarun just came across your post about short femurs at the 20 week scan. I had mine nearly two weeks ago and i am in a state about it as ive gone down a rabbit hole on google and its associations arent the best. I'm also due in October by the way! my baby is measuring small overall (6th centile now) with the femur on the 7th centile. Would love to hear how youre getting on now @pumpkinpatches22 ?

CustardCream31 · 12/06/2025 07:11

That’s great news @BeSunnyPinkBiscuit
🙂
@BloomingOrchideasorry your scan has given you worries. Hopefully the other ladies can offer advice. Have you spoken to your midwife about it yet? If not, might be worth speaking to her about your questions and worries.

If you’re worrying definitly see if you can speak to someone. My baby has a short ish femur too at 20 weeks but I have to go back this sat to finish the scan (they didn’t manage to finish everything on scan 1 due to baby position) so I am going to ask them about her femur. Your measurements look in line with baby size but I’m not a doctor x

I've got mine next week, how did the test go did you feel ok? My first one I felt fine so hoping its the same! x

emmatcc1 · 12/06/2025 09:57

20 week scan done (at 21+5) and baby is healthy measuring a week ahead and weighing at 530g. I on the other hand have a lot of fluid in my right kidney so I’m forbidden from laying on my right side until the end of the pregnancy probably. Glad to see that his kidney obstruction has cleared up though and everything is as it should be.
We’re due to start preparing his room at the end of this month and I think we’re gonna go with a sage green theme, we’re in a rental apartment so no coloring the walls but will probably add some stickers on there.

I had my 20 week scan on Tuesday and can't say I found it a positive experience at all. I read all your comments and you all have so much information. I was told absolutely nothing. No idea where placenta is, no idea on size of baby or if measuring correct. Was shown the screen for about 30 seconds and then didn't see the screen again, asked if I wanted scan photos but wasn't allowed to see them until we paid for them. They are terrible can't work out any features compared to my 12 week where could work out everything so clear. I know she measured the femur wrong as she was talking to the other woman and said straigh away that's gonna come up big and measured again.
Baby was not in a good position so I had to get up and move around for the heart checks, asked about going to toilet and wss told hang on as thats our next step but baby had moved to an even worse position so have to go back on Tuesday for that, no further attempt by emptying bladder as was suggested. So I'm really hoping for someone different who will talk us through it all a bit more and actually show the screen.

I had to ask about finding out the gender and feel like I put her out and she wasnt the most convincing that she knew. Really hoping she is right and it is a baby boy.

I've also seen people mention cervix length check but not aware of this being done.

Can I ask what information you were told at your 20 and what I should expect to come away knowing.

Overthinker111 · 12/06/2025 13:18

Hi I'm new to the thread but due in October and just had my 20 week scan. I've also got to go back for a re scan due to babies position and them not being able to scan the heart properly. I thought the scan was OK but since reading these messages i also haven't been told babies measurement? There are measurements for the ac, fl and hc but these vary between 19 and 21 weeks. I'm going to try and get hold of my midwife today to see if she can explain. I'd also like to know what else we should be told at the 20 week scan? X

With my daughter I wasn't told anything really. I didn't know where my placenta was didn't know how she was measuring just everything looked "fine" there were values on my notes but nothing about what percentile they would be just X cm femur for example

This time around they told me I had anterior placenta and that they just need to measure how far it was from the cervix. She talked her way through the scan saying each organ she looked at looked ok counting arms and legs and so on I don't recall them doing that with my daughter. The est. weight is in my notes at 55th percentile but I didn't get told this at the appointment

With my daughter they just picked a random still for the photo this time around he wasn't in a good position to get a clear photo so I had to move around whilst she wrote up the findings and then she tried again to get a good image.

I've never had my cervix length measured, I think they only do this if there is a risk of it shortening. I'm not sure of all the factors but I believe two are having had parts of the cervix removed due to cancerous or precancerous cells being detected and having had an c section when fully dilated.

emmatcc1 · 12/06/2025 13:47

@HayleyD93 My ob is not a very talkative person and I wasn’t told and measurements but I saw the measurements come up in the bottom right corner along with the corresponding gestational age. After taking measurements she said everything is within range and looks good. We started with vaginal ultrasound to measure my cervix. My placenta location was already determined at the 12 week ultrasound. Then she started with looking at the brain and showed us each part she was looking at followed by “it looks normal”. Continued to look at eye lenses and check for cleft lip. Then came the heart which was hard to see because baby was not cooperating at his spine was casting a shadow over the chest but she took her time and eventually we saw everything. Next was kidneys, stomach and bladder, not much said just quick measure to make sure it’s within normal size. Then she measured femur and checked for bowed legs. Confirmed gender. Checked for the 3 vessel cord and checked blood flow through it. And I think that was all. Lastly showed us what the estimated weight and gestational size was.

Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your experience.

We got a print out of the 20 week scan notes in my maternity book and that has graphs for each measurement and the % centile each measurement is in. So that’s where I got most of my information from. Did you get something similar?

On the cervix length scan I think you only get those if you are deemed high risk and referred to a consultant. For dc1 I didn’t even know it was a thing. I didn’t even know what mumsnet was. For my dc2 I was deemed high risk of a short cervix (due to birth type of dc1) and the hospitals therefore referred me for the cervix scans. I doubt they’d miss this.

hope that helps x

Hayels94 · 12/06/2025 14:27

I was also told next to nothing at my 20 weeks scan, simply everything looks fine. On my badger notes I just have placenta is not low and no abnormalities seen but no further details than that.

No, I got absolutely nothing apart from an awful scan photo, that they charged me £10 for 3 copies of and we weren't allowed to see it before we paid.
My appointment never went onto my badgernotes but other appointments have so it seems a little hit and miss on the use of that and nothing has been uploaded onto there since as I've checked it a few times since to see if results were uploaded onto there.
