@squishousdelicious @CustardCream31 I realise that there's no guarantees when it comes to pregnancy/birth (my healthy diet plan went right out the window for a while thanks to pregnancy nausea! 😂) but for me the plan is more of a cheat sheet of what my preferences/definitely nots are and why, so my partner and I can refer to it during what I assume will be an overwhelming experience 😁
My playlist is already underway although it's hard to predict what kind of things I'll want to listen to. So far I've got a lot of calm/soothing songs and some ambient thunderstorm noise.
Water birth is probably the biggest thing I'm undecided on, it sounds lovely but I'm not sure our hot water system would manage to fill a pool quickly enough? 😅The joys of rural living! It's something I'll need to ask my midwife more about before we commit to borrowing one and having it take over the living room 😂
Food if I have to transfer is definitely going to be a pain for us, can I ask what foods you're planning to take?
@Superscientist my plan is definitely a "here's the basics and we'll go from there" and my aim is to be able to have something to hand to help make informed decisions as they come up. I don't know if I explained myself well before as my birth plan isn't a set in stone script, more of a guide to birth interventions and potential cascades e.g. types of fetal monitoring I'm open to/will decline and why. 😊
I'm fortunate to have a midwife that I feel really supported by, I thought I would have to argue my case for declining routine ultrasounds but she was totally on board. I realise not all health professionals are as open minded to womens' choices so I'd like to be able to direct them to the evidence base if I need to 😅
I definitely understand what you are saying about birth having so many moving parts that it's unlikely someone has their ideal birth on paper - my truest success criteria is that baby and I survive! I just feel that since I'm blessed with the time and access to information to learn about birth, I should use that to my advantage 😃
I'm in a somewhat similar situation to you in that driving to nearest obstetric unit would be over 1.5 hours, probably closer to 2 hours. I'm just glad it's not as bad as for the poor ladies of Caithness & Wick! Maybe I'm being a bit quicker than most to really consider my birth options because of that. 😊It's good you are getting a home birth kit just in case, rather than them assuming/requiring you to get to a hospital!
