Hello! Thought I would start an October thread as technically my EDD is 2nd October. Ivf pregnancy so I know very early at 5dp5dt which is equivalent to 10dpo.

Anyone else know they are due in October yet?

Names are soooo hard, aren’t they! You never realise how many people you don’t like until you need to name a child 😝 we have 3 maybes for a girl, and 1 for a boy….! Boys names are so hard! (And I’m super fussy….)

CustardCream31 · 23/04/2025 12:19

@EEB1989we have a couple of babygros and vests (one “born 2025” 🥰🌈) and a sleep sack that I saw in the sale a few weeks ago and couldn’t resist…! We will probably get a few bits and bobs each month to build up, and because it’s too exciting 🤩 each to their own though. I know some people don’t buy anything until 30+ weeks. But I’m too impatient!

emmatcc1 · 23/04/2025 13:05

@EEB1989 I’ve got a bunch of clothes from my previous miscarriage and I’ve now bought some bamboo babygrows, bottles and dummies.
I’m definitely not the kind to wait until 30weeks so I’ll probably start shopping more consistently in 3 weeks when we find out the gender.

Givemethesun · 23/04/2025 13:07

Exciting :) I haven’t bought anything yet as hoping to use most bits from dc1! Although if this second baby is a boy he’ll need a new wardrobe as dc1 had girlie clothes. I need to get dc1 out of her cot and into a bed pre October 😂

InGodsHands · 24/04/2025 11:08

I like trying to guess the gender but I’m deciding to not find out. Not many surprises in life and this will be the biggest one ever!! Only 26 weeks to go!! 🫠🫠

My screening results finally came through. Low risk for downs, Edwards and Patau but they have sent me another letter saying my PAPP-A hormone was also low. It doesn’t change my Down’s syndrome risk but has been linked to smaller babies so they’re giving me additional growth scans. That’s all they mention but on the NHS website it says it can sometimes be linked to pre-eclampsia, early delivery or even miscarriage in the second half of pregnancy. I think the risk is quite low for these things but still made me spiral a bit. Anyone else had this?

EEB1989 · 25/04/2025 16:18

Hi Ladies,
Hope you’re all ok.

Sorry I can’t help @pumpkinpatches22 we didn’t have the screening due to being 14+1 at our scan.

We were going to wait until our 20week scan to announce but have decided that if anything were to happen, we would like the support of family. However, my Nan died on Monday - my mum’s mum. Would you still announce or should I postpone?

Please let me know your thoughts… don’t hold back, I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t want to know lol.

EEB1989 · 25/04/2025 18:15

Update… we’ve decided to wait until the funeral etc is out of the way.

I’ll be around 19/20 weeks but at least it’s less time for them to wait to meet their grandchild!

Superscientist · 25/04/2025 18:30

I'd play it by ear @EEB1989 and see how everyone is.
I told my family this week at 17 weeks. My parents are away and I was going to tell them when they got back but I was talking to them on the phone and it just fitted into the conversation and they were a bit down as my sister has been very unwell.
My other sister had a medical drama with her parent in law so I wasn't going to tell her but she was quite stressed and a bit fed with every phone call being someone quite unwell so I asked if she wanted to hear some good news instead and she was thrilled to hear I was expecting.
It all comes down to timing both people had come through the crisis and starting to recover and it seemed a natural time to bring it up so yeah I'd not plan to tell them but see how things go.

Just joining this chat now as due mid October.

I had a miscarriage last year and still haven't quite allowed myself to believe everything will be OK. This will be our third.

I just wanted to say I got this letter too. I have been advised to take aspirin as well because of it - might be something to discuss with your midwife?

We have been in a similar position my partners dad died. He really want3d to tell them all but I thought it was best to leave it as I thought that it may get in the way of their grieving process anyway he did actually tell them all and his mum was so happy along with rveryone else. She said it has helped her through the funeral knowing that there was something to look forward to. You just have to do what feels best at the time

Yes I have second time around now so I'm not worried like I was when I was told first time round. The chances of it are so low but any occurance has to be given as a potential risk. Just take it that you get to see the baby in the scan more often which is a bonus. I ended up with so many scan pictures we have a collage made up! Extra scans start at 24 weeks, once a month so it's quite reassuring and they will keep an eye on how the planceta is functioning

CustardCream31 · 26/04/2025 11:07

Morning ladies. Hope everyone is ok and has a nice weekend ahead.

@pumpkinpatches22good news you’re low risk for those syndromes. I’m not at risk of the same things, but I am at high risk of premature birth/miscarriage even now at 14 weeks due to possible incompetent cervix (previous horrendous birth) and the issue with the ongoing bleeding due to vanishing twin. So will need extra scans and consultant led. So I do totally empathise with your spiralling and worry with stuff like that 😣 as hard as it is, try not to over Google, and lean on your midwife for some balanced reassurance when needed. Mine has been great on WhatsApp chat when I’m having a wobble!

@EEB1989so sorry to hear of your Nan. Very sad for the family 😔 I’d lean more towards telling them, as a glimpse of light in those dark times to help you all through, that there is hope and life coming within the family. Of course, you know your family best, but a baby is always exciting news.

@Wildflowers15huge congrats!!! I also had a loss late last year, and am still on edge panicking this one won’t make it… the constant fear is real after loss!! Wishing you a smooth pregnancy ☺️

HayleyD93 · 26/04/2025 15:00

I am 14 weeks tomorrow, don't yet have an appointment for my 16 week or 20 week scan nor an appointment with the consultant but have received a letter got GTT appointment in July and a growth scan in September.
Feel like they are rushing ahead and other steps need to be put in place 1st.
Need to message my midwife as she was talking about doing my 16 week appointment after I get back from holiday so I'll be 18 weeks then. Along as I get my 20 week scan booked that's all I'm worried about at the moment. That's my next milestone.

K138 · 26/04/2025 16:00

Hi all! I'm pregnant for the first time, due October of course, and have been lurking a little on this thread 😅

Has anyone else started working on a birth plan? I'm finding the second trimester to feel a bit like no man's land compared to the first where I was checking every week to see what organs/limbs were being made etc. and counting down to being able to tell people 😁

I've still got a lot of my first trimester symptoms as well as some news ones, no pregnancy glow here yet!

I think the big gaps between midwife appts (first and only one was 2 months ago) is also a surprise to me so I'm trying to make sure I'm (over?) prepared!

Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the stage of pregnancy you're in! ☺️

Hi! And congratulations!

Honestly, I never bothered with a birth plan, because I knew so many people whose births had been completely different to their plans and they'd been so upset by it.

I decided what I'd definitely like/not like, but otherwise made no actual plan. Which, in hindsight, was a good thing, because the birth of my first child was absolutely ridiculous - no one would have planned for that!

Sure, give thought and make a note of what you think you'd like at the moment, but remember your preferences can change, and things can happen that take it outside your control, which is why so many people I knew were upset. Think about what you can control - make a playlist for you to listen to on something portable, be aware of all your options for pain relief, and wait a while until closer to the due date.

CustardCream31 · 26/04/2025 18:19

I agree with @squishousdelicious- absolutely do have a think and have some “would likes” and preferences, but my “plan” one went out the window with my first. I “planned” for a serene water birth, and out the hospital the same day. LOL. 5 day awful induction, emcs at 10cm and a near on 2 week hospital stay because baby and I were poorly was not on my plan 🤣🤣 don’t get me wrong, I’m hoping for a serene vbac water birth this time, which will likely mean another C-section 🤪

Great idea on focussing on the things you can control - I’ll be trying that this time.

emmatcc1 · 26/04/2025 18:47

@CustardCream31 I’m interested in water birth but I’m pretty sure I’m already not fit for it because of the unexplained bleeding. The criteria here is pretty strict.

squishousdelicious · 26/04/2025 18:57

@CustardCream31 the amount of people I've met who said they wanted a water birth but couldn't have one because there wasn't one available is impressive! Even the slightest little thing can turn a "plan" upside-down. I had a similar experience to yours and I've decided that this time, I'm going straight for an elective section!

Controlling what i can control this time is my biggest learning curve from my last pregnancy and birth. I'm such a planner and organiser, but all the control got taken away from me last time. This time, by purposefully having a section, I feel like a lot more is planned. Even though I know I can't control how it goes, or exactly when it will happen, I will at least know in advance and not have to go through a ridiculous induction process that just didn't work for us.

Oh, and I'll know to bring heaps more food to the hospital, so that I can fully enjoy eating again without being at the mercy of hospital food 😁

I’m on a waiting list for my 20week scan, my hospital is fully booked, they had appointments for 18 weeks but I have a holiday so I had to go on a list - hopefully they will see me at 20weeks.

It’s all a bit unorganised.

Superscientist · 26/04/2025 20:25

@K138 I will have broadly the same birth plan as my daughter.

start with gas and air, open to suggestions

My direction for my partner were to help me make decisions that help me stay calm and try to make the most informed decisions.

The birth of my daughter went very smoothly but there were a couple of things that could have gone either way and I would have had a different birth experience. It's a bit like continuously rolling a dice and hoping to keep getting your number come up. The two main moments were my waters going before birth so I was booked in for an induction 20h after them going as there is a risk of infection after 24h, she was born 12h after my afters went so this wasn't necessary. Her shoulder did get very slightly stuck and the midwife had pressed the button for support just as I pushed her out so I gave birth to a group of people rushing into the room. I might have needed interventions had the shoulder been properly stuck.

My labour with my daughter was quite quick, 2h for active labour so this time around I will be getting a back up home birth kit at 36 weeks and have been instructed to call for an ambulance rather than make my own way to the hospital if in advanced labour as it's a 30-60 minutes drive depending on traffic so I'm at risk of giving birth at the side of the road.

Nothing has been said about my 20 week scan at all yet so when I had 2 letters through the post I thought it would be 20 week but 1 is for growth scan in September. I'm sure there is method to their madness somewhere.

Then again I had an email from badgernotes this afternoon reminding me I have an appointment 3 days ago for bloods that they cancelled and is showing as cancelled on the app 🙈. Midwife did say it was a bit of a rubbish system 😂

Oh mine doesn’t use badger, my area has Mypregnancy notes. It’s a website.

They tried to book me in for my 20week at my 12week - didn’t they try to book you in then too?

I’ve got my 16 week appointment on Friday. Although ill be closer to 17 weeks…
They’re a bit slow in my area lol.

How much does this matter? They booked my 16 week appointment at my booking appointment for when I would have been 17 weeks... but now my dates have moved, I'll be nearly 18 weeks... I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned this, and now I'm wondering if I should try moving it.

I have had my 16 week appointment they did my blood pressure checked my urine and re did bloods as I'm anemic again! So want to make sure my iron has increased. They didn't want to listen to baby as they said it can be hard to find the heart beat when small. The next midwife appointment for me is at 25 weeks. So scan at 20 then midwife appointment 5 weeks later. Feels like a long time in-between but next time I see the midwife it will only be 15 weeks to go!! That is so crazy preganancy is so slow but then so fast.
