Hi all, just wanted to start a new thread to use once the old one fills up. I'm due 03/06/2025 and currently 11 weeks exactly. Looking forward to first trimester being over! Has everyone booked in their booking appointments yet/got dates for the 12 week scan?

Here's a link to the old thread for book keeping: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/5171110-due-june-2025

@codemytea I heard the heartbeat at 16 week scan with my first and it was lovely and reassuring as you are unlikely to feel movements until around 20 weeks depending on your placenta type.

I'm just going to wait until 20 weeks to find out if they are a boy or girl - even then that's not 100% as I know someone who was told they were having a girl but it was a boy in the end, everything they'd thought was pink 😱

MittensForKittens123 · 23/11/2024 23:32

I get extra scans in the second trimester due to misshapen uterus, so it didn’t feel like a big gap for me last time, but if a private scan is useful for you then it’s money well spent in my opinion.

codemytea · 24/11/2024 12:21

Got a magazine on caring for babies from my midwife in my booking appointment. Decided to finally give it a read and got to the page on harvesting colostrum from 36 weeks - was following along with it so I could understand what it meant, and two drops of something came out of my breast! Tried with the other one and same thing.

I know you're not meant to stimulate too much in first and third trimester just in case it starts contractions so I won't be trying that again till 36 weeks but god it was quite a surprise, had no clue things could happen this early on!

Now I'm worried I'll start profusely leaking as I get more and more pregnant :(

@Stef92 We'll hopefully find out gender soon, but we've decided not to tell anyone until the baby is born - I feel very strongly about avoiding stereotypes as much as we can. Hope we manage to hear the heartbeat too!

@Stef92 imagine being told one gender when it’s the opposite! My friend is 19 weeks and desperately wants a girl. They had their 20 week scan but baby was being very coy so they couldn’t find out! She already has a boy. And her partner has a girl from a previous relationship. I think we will find out this time, we didn’t with my daughter. But we would try to keep it a secret from everyone I think!

dmb91 · 24/11/2024 13:30

It's rare to be told boy but baby actually be a girl, however I've often heard never to trust that a girl is a girl until they arrive.
We didn't find out with our son and won't find out this time either although looking back at my 20 week scan it's very clear my boy was a boy 😂

YorkshirePeridot · 24/11/2024 19:36

My SIL was told she was having a girl at a private scan at about 17 weeks. 20 week NHS scan showed he was actually a boy.

A colleague went through the entire pregnancy having been told it was a girl at multiple scans, then a little boy popped out!

I'm leaning towards finding out at the 20 week scan I think.

codemytea · 25/11/2024 12:25

Hi everyone, just got NIPT results back this morning. Thankfully all is good and low probability across the board.

@CAM8891 @Needcoffee24 you both guessed 💙 and you were both absolutely right! We'll be having a little boy :)

Huge congrats @codemytea! The skull theory was right for you! X

codemytea · 25/11/2024 13:17

@CAM8891 No idea how you did it, we looked at skull theory and it all looked the same to us :D you must have a keener eye!

@codemytea let's see if I can guess me own after my 12 week scan xx

Stef92 · 25/11/2024 14:21

Congrats @codemytea

We are definitely going to find out, we have so much boy stuff in the loft so either we'll be all set or can have a good clear out!

codemytea · 25/11/2024 14:29

@Stef92 Will you be doing some form of early gender test (nipt, 16 week scan etc) or will you find out with the 20 week scan? How far along are you, almost out of the first trimester?

My midwife has cleared me to do some colostrum harvesting in the second trimester which is fairly exciting, feels like I'm finally actively doing something for the baby, which I know is silly considering I'm gestating it! I'm looking forward to when I start feeling the baby move so it can start feeling a bit less surreal.

@codemytea we will likely just wait until the 20 week scan depending on the result of the nuchal test next week obviously. I am 11+2 based LMP but I reckon I'll be a few days behind that once I get my dating scan.

If this is your first baby you may not feel him move until after 20-22 weeks plus if you have an anterior placenta it can be closer to 24 weeks. You should get told about your placenta at 20 week scan, if not beforehand.

BertLiv · 25/11/2024 16:13

@Stef92 For under £6 is really good. I intend to do some shopping as soon as we've had our dating scan - partially because as soon as I eat at the moment I seem to balloon - I work from home and so live in my comfy trousers these days!

@SaturnSpark I'm also glad to know it's common to bleed after sex, we haven't had it since I've found out I was pregnant and think we'll now wait until after the dating scan, but we'd both have been terrified if I'd started bleeding a little and I didn't know it was normal!

@codemytea Congratulations! We will definitely be finding out the sex, probably at the 20 week scan. Apparently we get offered a 'harmony' test, which is the same as the NIPT test (I think!), but I'm not sure when - she said a lot in my booking appointment. I've also been thinking we might get a private scan in between 12 and 20 - it's so long to wait otherwise.

Having not slept well over the weekend, I slept even more badly last night and so I feel completely shattered today. My nausea also seems to have changed - I used to go away pretty quickly if I ate, but now it seems to linger (and feels slightly different) after I eat. Also - it seems ginger biscuits do not make me feel better! And my boobs are suddenly so incredibly sore, they just ache! Hoping these are all still normal and good signs!

LS888 · 25/11/2024 18:31

My sickness seems to have ramped up the past few days. I’ve been sick twice today but previous to the last few days it’s just been nauseous. I’m realising I need to keep snacking to keep it at bay which I didn’t this afternoon.

I have my first private scan on Friday so I’m counting down the days now! So scared but also excited.

codemytea · 25/11/2024 19:34

@LS888 Have you found any snacks that help? Good luck for your scan!

Anyone else have a completely changed sense of smell to pre-pregnancy? I can't stand the smell of my DH for instance, even though nothing about him has changed. I know it's not him because there's several other things as well that obviously haven't changed but just smell different (like the smell of freshly baked bread - used to love and now smells off).

@BertLiv I think harmony is the most accurate type of NIPT. I was thinking of a 16 week one but unfortunately finances said no, we're in the middle of purchasing a home so will be living vicariously off all you!

Nausea has returned tonight. Just made the little one's packed lunch for tomorrow and it's a miracle I didn't throw up all over it, he'll only eat tuna at nursery school and the smell 🤢

YorkshirePeridot · 26/11/2024 06:40

@codemytea My sense of smell has gone bonkers. I couldn't go in the utility room the other day because of the smell, I think it was a combination of the cat food and whatever had been in the microwave. I'm also way more sensitive to when the kids I teach have BO.

I may have been being really naïve in thinking that it was free! I'll have to look into that... although, I assume we'd only get it if the blood test at 12 weeks showed something. Not really sure - I've got quite a lot of reading to do!

MittensForKittens123 · 26/11/2024 13:03

Here you get the NIPT if the 12 week results aren’t good. We may do the NIPT privately after the 12 week scan - feel a bit more worry this time as I’ll be older, and I don’t want to traumatise my existing child.

MittensForKittens123 · 26/11/2024 13:05

I’ve currently got a vomiting bug I’ve caught off my two year old. Feel grim, and the spotting has started again - possibly from the retching. I’ve emailed the midwife, but not sure what to do.

Apologies, by "16 week one" I meant a private ultrasound scan. Not sure how NIPT works with NHS, just got myself one privately as I don't think I could have dealt with the uncertainty of the nuchal translucency/combined test. Would rather know at step one (although obviously if results are worrying you then need an amnio/cvs) rather than doing nuchal, then bloods etc.

@MittensForKittens123 That sounds awful! I hope you manage to shake it off fairly quickly - I caught a minor bug about amonth ago and took me 2.5 weeks to shake of vs DH's 4 days.

@MittensForKittens123 You poor thing - hope you're feeling a bit better today! Have you heard back from the midwife? My husband's currently got a bad sore throat and cough, and I am praying I don't catch it off him! He thinks he caught it off one of our nephews over the weekend...

@codemytea I've looked it up on my reading and the harmony seems to be exactly the same as the NIPT (they even call it the NIPT). We probably need to have a think about whether we want to get it anyway.

11 weeks today...can't wait until our scan next week - hopefully all will be well and we'll can finally relax a little!
