@Nope2024 All good thanks!

I've finally got myself together and bought majority of the things now - we left it really lasy minute to buy things like the cot, pram, car seat, clothes etc.

The only thing left are disposables like nappies, breast pads, maternity pads etc. which i will probably get next week (and then get around to packing my hospital bag).

What have you got left to buy?

Nope2024 · 14/05/2025 11:30

@JamTartLover I panic bought a load of maternity pads in the end, just need some breast pads and some massive knickers (just in case). I read somewhere thatafter you give birth, people find they're about the same size they were at 6 months, so that's helped me work out what clothes to chuck in. Finally packed baby's hospital bag on the weekend and scribbled world's most vague birth plan after shit tons of nagging from DH that I am not nearly as worried as I should be at 34 weeks pregnant for the first time.

Been going to NCT classes recently and it's been really helpful, I feel more prepared for practice stuff than I did but still don't feel scared/excited or any of it - I really feel like I can't picture having a baby so I don't have anything to work with. Starting to think my brain is a bit wonky! 😬 Did have a tiny moment of overwhelm last week about getting up 189953280 times to wee in the night but otherwise...weirdly calm and disassociated. Assume hormones will kick in soon!

Are you coping okay with symptoms? You must be getting close now!!

Moneyworrier123 · 16/05/2025 17:04

Hi everyone! How are you all coping with the heat? We are lucky to have a fairly cool house so I’m trying to stay inside. Got quite a lot of personal and work stress at the moment on top of being pregnant so feeling quite overwhelmed and unprepared for baby. We have started NCT classes though and finding that useful so far. I think it is dawning on me that this baby needs to come out of me somehow and then we need to actually be parents? Scary!! I’m very excited too but just experiencing a whole range of emotions at once. I’m also very uncomfortable now, I think the baby has dropped and my bump just feels so heavy, I’ll be so glad to have my body back a little bit and hope the aches and pains go away.
Hope you’re all doing well. The end is in sight now!

JamTartLover · 16/05/2025 22:13

@Nope2024 The symptoms are manageable although I am starting to have pregnancy insomnia. I've been seeing how I am with little sleep in preparation for the nights with the baby once she's here!

@Moneyworrier123 I feel the same about the baby being born! So scary yet exciting!

I have been going to antenatal classes which are really useful. I've written up my birth plan too, just planning on using gas and air and I have been practicing hypnobirthing techniques. I'm hoping to have a room with a water pool in the birth centre as I have heard that it really helps with the pain.

I'm 35 weeks now so it's getting close. How many weeks is everyone else?

Has anyone thought about how they are going to feed?

Insomnia over here too!! Like you said it’s just preparing us, but working full time is getting harder by the day. When do you finish work, if you haven’t already?
I am planning a similar birth to you, water birth and have been doing the positive birth company hypnobirthing. I do still feel very nervous though and scared that my body won’t be able to do it.
I am 34 weeks now, I’m due right at the end of June.
Hoping to breastfeed, but I haven’t done a lot of research into it yet. Also my boobs haven’t leaked at all (TMI) and I’m worried it means I have no milk, which I think is just me worrying unnecessarily! How about you?

Gooseygander555 · 17/05/2025 08:45

Our place is also quite cool so coping fine. We also started ante natal classes and they were talking about room temp for baby, and I don’t think we need to worry in summer in our place which is good!
I’ve been sick the whole time and it’s getting worse so I am feeling ready for that to be over. Scary and exciting thinking what comes next!
We've half packed the hospital bag, just need some nappies and a blanket for baby I think. I’m quite calm about the birth, have said anything goes for the birth plan - quite keen on an epidural but also would prefer to stay in birthing suite rather than the ward so tossing that up.

@Moneyworrier123im also hoping to breastfeed but like you i have nothing coming in and don’t think boobs are any bigger! Going to try harvesting colostrum from 37 weeks and see how that goes. Sorry to hear you’re so nervous. I keep using the affirmation that my body will know what to do - have read and heard so many stories that in the moment it really does know what’s needed so you just need to pay attention and let it do it’s thing!

JamTartLover · 17/05/2025 12:03

@Moneyworrier123 I haven't seen any milk coming out yet, but I'm reluctant to start fiddling around too much as I have heard it can induce labour (not sure how true that is though!) I want to breastfeed but may do combi feeding so keeping options open at the moment. I have an antenatal breastfeeding class in a couple of weeks so hoping that will help.

I'm working half days (using half day annual leave) from next week until 9th June when I officially start my mat leave.

Sorry to hear that you are still struggling with work. When are you planning on starting your mat leave?

@Gooseygander555 i still struggle with morning sickness, albeit less now than in the first trimester (thankfully!).

I still can't believe how soon it is now!

CSSL7 · 18/05/2025 01:17

Hi everyone! We’re totally ready for baby!! So excited now but also really don’t want preach to end 😭 I will miss the bump so much. Ever since I’ve been on iron tablets and omeprazole I’ve felt amazing but it’s currently 1am and I’m awake cuz I’ve just been sick from what I can only assume is reflux that is so bad my tablets aren’t even helping!! They’re just masking the pain I think. My back is also in agony. My lower left hand side. I assume sciatica as does midwife. Really painful so wondering if I’m entering into my uncomfortable zone to get me ready for baby and excited for the pregnancy to be over hahah.

my birth plan is epidural immediately! It’s soooooo hard to live every day and have no clue whether she’ll come today. Tomorrow in 10 days or 5 weeks!!!! It’s wild! I’m 35+5 today!

OP posts:
JamTartLover · 18/05/2025 15:28

@CSSL7 Sorry to hear that you've been struggling! Acid reflux is awful, as is back pain. I've been getting a sciatica-like pain too, particularly when I walk to work. I've started to get really bad pelvic girdle pain too.

I feel the same way about not knowing when labours going to begin. My sister keeps reminding me that her son was born early, as does my manager (who had a premature baby) so I'm waiting with bated breath!

I've found myself waking up at 6am, no matter what time I've gone to sleep. It's so strange, I'm not sure why. I'm going to test whether the baby constantly wakes up at 6am once she's born😂😂

Nope2024 · 31/05/2025 09:07

@Moneyworrier123 I've hit the insomnia now, my body clock is totally put of whack and it is so hot at night now! I feel like a radiator 🥲 Fed up of everyone telling me to make the most of the sleep before baby gets here. Convinced I will actually sleep loads better when baby is here because I'll be able to starfish on my back to my heart's content! 😂

I've been having growth scans and starting to freak out now that my little one is very little for nearly 37 weeks - only 2.6kg 😬 Worried I'll be put on consultant led care at the last minute after months of being told I was low risk. ☹️ But the graph is going up consistently, so...🤷🏼‍♀️

How are you all doing? Any signs yet? 🫣

JamTartLover · 31/05/2025 21:04

@Nope2024 I cannot wait to be able to sleep on my back again!

I'm 37 weeks now so could be any day now! My sisters baby was born at 38 weeks (as she loves to remind me!) So i am trying to be as prepared as I can be!

My little one is measuring around 3.2kg at 36 weeks which I think is quite big?😅

Nope2024 · 31/05/2025 21:49

@JamTartLover I've been told by everyone (except medical professionals 😂) that baby will gain 0.5lb a week so at least it doesn't sound like you're on track for a 10lb baby!

Keep having very vivid daydreams about actually being in labour now, have definitely got the heebiegeebies. I have a fortnight left in work and then a week off - I have so much stuff I want to get done before baby gets here!

Have you started maternity leave yet?

Moneyworrier123 · 31/05/2025 21:50

Hi @Nope2024 and @JamTartLover !! So sorry you’ve got the insomnia. Mine is so bad now. Everyone is annoying me too saying get as much sleep now as you can, don’t they think I’m trying!
I’m 36 weeks now, but I have no idea how big baby is as haven’t had a scan since our private 4D one nearly 10 weeks ago now. I’m glad they’re keeping an eye on things for you @Nope2024, I have heard that these scans can be inaccurate though so try not to worry too much and just listen to their advice I suppose.
I am really feeling quite done now with pregnancy and so ready to meet baby girl. Two weeks of work left first 😩

JamTartLover · 31/05/2025 22:45

I finish work at the end of this week, which gives me two weeks before the baby arrives (assuming she arrives on her due date).

Everyone keeps asking about baby names and I'm really reluctant to tell anyone as everyone will have a different opinion. So far, only immediately family and best friends know and they have all loved the name so far!

I've been quite relaxed about labour (not idea why, as i don't know what to expect!) I've completed my birth plan now and left things quite flexible so I can request something like an epidural, if needed. I would want to try without an epidural first but I don't know how bad the pain will be. I don't really have strong period pains so I'm not used to that kind of pain either!

Nope2024 · 01/06/2025 12:36

DH and I agreed not to tell anyone baby names until she's here, but my DM wanted to know how many letters for a quilt she's making and DH is a bit miffed in case she guesses. I am awful at keeping secrets!! Bit paranoid now and have to change the subject whenever anyone asks. 😂

It's good that you're still calm! I was like that for a bit (if I don't know what to expect, I can't imagine it so can't imagine how much it will hurt). I give my "just gas and air and permission to swear" birth plan 10 mins before I get to mild contractions and I ask to be hit over the head/get an epidural. My periods are normally really manageable (dull aches rather than actual pain) but I nearly passed out from pain when I had an early loss last summer so that is literally my only reference pain-wise. I think I'm just bracing and will pray the gas and air is good...

Fingers crossed for a quiet week in work for you! I had this week off to do some life admin (none of which I've managed 🥲) but next two weeks are MENTAL in work so think I'll be signing off at midnight on my last day. 😂

Have been trying not to think about baby's size - just very frustrating that I can't do anything to make her bigger. 😬

I wonder if anyone else in this thread has started their labour yet?!

JamTartLover · 01/06/2025 16:12

@Nope2024 I'm sorry to hear about your early loss!

Yeah, I imagine I'll be putting in extra hours this week although my colleagues are really good at pulling people up on doing extra time and telling them to log off (which sounds mean but is really lovely from a wellbeing point of view!)

narwhalsarereal · 01/06/2025 16:16

My maternity leave starts tomorrow although I’ve already been off for a week due to half term.
Had a night in hospital on Friday due to regular contractions but I hadn’t even dilated so it was false labor 🤦🏼‍♀️
Induction is booked though, so not long now either way

CSSL7 · 01/06/2025 20:44

Loving all of your updates!!!! No labour from me yet (37+4 today) but lightning crotch is RIDICULOUS atm - so hoping it means she’s more engaged. I’ve been 3/5 engaged for the last month - another midwife appnt tomorrow to see if she’s further down.

we were 4lb8oz at 34 weeks but haven’t been weighed/scanned since (about 2kg I think???) she’s measuring about 2 weeks behind every fundal measurement tho but again, it’s consistent still.

i keep having the fear every couple of days that today could be the day 😂 I hate the unknown and just eating my dinner thinking omg could it happen now?! lol.

it’s crazy they’ll all be here in 4 weeks. Eeeeek!

oh also we’ve told everyone we know/are actual friends with the name! Not a secret for us but not telling like, outsiders hahaha

OP posts:
JamTartLover · 02/06/2025 08:57

@narwhalsarereal Not long for you then! I've been having Brixton hicks contractions but nothing that feels like more than that.

@CSSL7 Yeah, i hate the feeling of not knowing when it will happen! I have a wedding coming up so I am hoping I can attend but have put myself down as a maybe, just in case!

The only symptom I'm having is the need to urinate every two minutes! I can really feel the pressure on my bladder now which i think means the baby has engaged.

Gooseygander555 · 09/06/2025 13:12

How’s everyone doing?
Im getting very frequent pains that feel like when I have my period, always said that it felt like my cervix dilating and that’s what it feels like now, but no stomach tightness to go with it like with Braxton Hicks? Not sure if this is things getting geared up and ready maybe!

Same here!! im having Braxton hicks (whole belly tight and hard) but at different times having period cramps. On Friday it was every two hours. Saturday nothing. Then sporadically cramping yesterday. Exactly like my period. From what I’m gathering it’s my body practicing. Pressure is SO much atm. I’m finding it so crazy that we have no idea when it’s gonna happen 😭

OP posts:
Gooseygander555 · 09/06/2025 15:21

@CSSL7yes sounds so similar! I also keep feeling weird pressure on top of what I assume is my cervix and baby sort of shifting against it if that makes sense. But I don’t have what I thought the pressure would feel like if baby engaged.

JamTartLover · 09/06/2025 16:23

@CSSL7 @Gooseygander555 I was having contractions almost all of Friday night and had a wedding to attend yesterday and thought I wasn't going to make it but luckily I managed to! There wasn't any pain accompanying the contractions.

The not knowing when it will happen is so difficult. Its hard for my husband to leave work early too so I'm hoping that it either starts early in the morning, on his day off or on the due date itself!

I went to my 38 week appointment this week and my midwife said the head was engaged and was in the right place which is reassuring in some ways!

Only two weeks or less for me now!

I'm really struggling to walk without getting back pains now so need to take it easy. I tried out an adult nappy today and it's surprisingly comfortable so went out and bought more😂

One of my friends recommended getting the adult nappies post partum as they are more comfortable than pads (she's recently had a baby so in the post partum phase)

Moneyworrier123 · 09/06/2025 17:18

Ooh it sounds like things are starting to happen for you all, very exciting! I completely agree that it’s so hard not knowing and just having to basically wait around.
I have just this week left at work and then I’m hoping baby girl gives me a week or so to catch up on some rest and sleep!
No signs of movement for me yet although she is head down and apparently 2/5ths engaged which I’m taking as a good sign!
Sending you all lots of best wishes and hope things get moving soon.
Im also going to go and buy some adult nappies based on the recommendation thank you @JamTartLover !!

JamTartLover · 09/06/2025 23:45

@Moneyworrier123 Glad to hear that you have started your mat leave now, I hope you had a lovely send off at work!

I would recommend getting a size or two bigger than your usual size. I'd say I'm a size 12/14 normally but got the XL size for comfort.
