Hi everyone, I’m just checking in on how you’re all doing?
Following a really traumatic birth it took me a while for the fog to lift. I found probably the first 4 weeks incredibly tough, emotional and wondered what on earth I’d done to my lovely child free life. However the bond came, the love grew and now I really am loving it! My daughter is 8 weeks now, completely gorgeous and we are seeing smiles.
One of the challenges we’ve had is feeding. We were on a triple feeding plan which nearly killed me but now we are mostly breastfeeding with one formula at night. I’m still struggling with a painful latch though so not sure how long I can keep it going!
Anyway, I hope you are all doing well 💕

@Moneyworrier123 good to hear from you! Sorry to hear that you had a traumatic start but it's so lovely when they start to develop! I love seeing my daughters smile too! I usually dance with her when shes in her crib and she loves it!

My baby's birth didn't go to plan and we had a couple of hospital admissions which affected breastfeeding.

Feeding options are so tough to decide on as its such an emotional decision! I did post about feeding options on Mumsnet and got a lot of support so if you search my username, you may come across the post (I think i posted a week ago).

I started expressing breast milk and using formula as a top up but only started breastfeeding recently. I don't think my baby is getting enough during the day as she is constantly at my breast (although apparently this is normal).

I have decided to breastfeed at night and occasionally during the day and then pump every 2 hours with formula if needed just to save my sanity and feel so much better.

I enjoy breastfeeding at night but not during the day as it really started to make me feel like I wasnt good enough by having to constantly feed her.

For example, I breastfed her today for 15 mins and half an hour later, she was crying with hunger - how is that possible? The latch looks correct so not sure what's going on!

Hi @JamTartLover sorry to hear that you’re also having feeding struggles, it’s genuinely the hardest thing I’ve ever done! Your thread was so useful and really resonated with me. My daughter is also constantly on the breast but I’m slightly different that I don’t mind that too much in the day but the night times were killing me. We now do a formula before bed whilst I express then we give that expressed milk at her first wake up, and then I breastfeed her (side feeding) in bed from the next wake up as she refuses the crib from about 5! The sleep is still so up and down though. How does your little one do overnight with sleep?
They are totally worth all the struggles of course, but I was definitely not prepared for how hard it all is.

My baby usually wakes up every couple of hours, but will sometimes sleep for longer. I definitely feel it if she takes longer to settle as she can sometimes take a couple of hours to settle during the night, as she has colic and reflux.

I wasn't expecting it to be as hard as it is but I think it gets more difficult when they start crawling (and then you can't take your eyes off them!)

My baby has started to love contact naps, which is difficult when you have things to do but I've learnt to just go with the flow to make things easier on myself.

yes we get a couple of hours only too, it’s so tough isn’t it! We also have a reflux baby so have to hold upright for 30mins. Sometimes we can be awake for 2 hours feeding, burping and settling it’s a nightmare!
Oh yes I have had to embrace contact naps, she will also sleep ok in the car and pram which gives my arms a break! Our house is an absolute tip because when she’s awake I want to play/do tummy time etc with her rather than tidy before the next feed/burp/sleep cycle repeats.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the household mess vs. playing with the baby!

I love the newborn snuggles though so can't complain too much!

Newborn snuggles are the best, the house will be tidy again one day but they won’t want snuggles forever!

Hi everyone! Thought I would check in with you all now the babies are 4 months old. How are you all doing?
I had a long road to recovery from a tough birth, lots of infections, bleeding & general uncomfortable feeling for around 12 weeks. Still working on my pelvic floor recovery with some support from a physio. Not back to running or any exercise yet but I have returned to some volunteering I do which is giving me something outside of being ‘Mum’.
It really took me a while to get into the swing of things and out of a bit of baby blues I think. The birth really affected me in terms of bonding with my daughter and I really hated the newborn phase. I do now look back on it with nostalgia though and miss her being so tiny!
We are in the midst of the 4 month regression, although she’s never been a great sleeper anyway. Hopefully we will start sleeping more than 2 hours at a time again one day but I’m lucky my husband is helping where he can overnight although I am breastfeeding. I’m super proud of that, having had a rough start with the breastfeeding and readmissions to hospital with a dehydrated baby, to now breastfeeding her joyfully is such an achievement.
Seeing her develop, her smiles and laughs (and her screech?) is just so rewarding and we are very close to rolling now too.
Hope you are all doing well and hope to hear how you’re getting on x

My little one is 5
months today and I’m expecting again

JamTartLover · 09/11/2025 14:38

@Moneyworrier123 I'm in the same boat as you, 4 month sleep regression with no naps during the day (unless contact napping or in the pram) but the nights are sometimes good (sleeps for 4/5 hours) or sometimes not (every hour waking up due to gas or discomfort).

I agree about the newborn phase. When you're in the thick of it, it is so hard but then when your baby gets older, you miss those newborn days! I recently changed my LO's clothes to 3-6 months and was in tears throwing away her little vests!

Breastfeeding is going well although some days are more challenging than others particularly when she is in discomfort from gas or wind! She doesn't really accept dummies either so I have to try to console her through cuddles or feeding!

Congratulations on your breastfeeding journey, it is so challenging but you are doing brilliantly! Its so rewarding to see your baby nourished and bonding with you whilst feeding!

I'm going to start doing some easier exercises soon, particularly for core muscles as I had a C section so want to try to regain the strength again!

JamTartLover · 09/11/2025 14:39

@narwhalsarereal Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope all goes well with it!

How are you finding pregnancy with your baby?

It’s exhausting, the nausea is starting which is horrible when I have stinky nappies to change but my little one is being an angel thankfully

Good to hear from you! I’m glad things are going well, it sounds like we are in a similar boat with the sleeping. Hopefully it will improve for us both soon 🙏
