@UrbanSquirrel hahaha I can imagine his face! That sounded horrific! Your completely right I'm sure they've seen the wierd and the wonderful 😂

Hope London cools down! 😊

UrbanSquirrel · 02/08/2024 07:49

@SBelfast Me too.. I am a small, pale, freckly Celt. I am not made for Mediterranean temperatures.

Keep us posted how you get on today! x

@retrievermum I had the same when mine came back. Which I found surprising because I am older.

I've not been around as my 9 month old has started walking and I'm back at work so it's absolute carnage in this house

Piluka · 02/08/2024 10:27

@mama@mamav

Sorry I cannot manage to get rid of the top line.

Hi ladies. Today I had my 12w scan. It looks everything is alright so far. The baby is measuring 12+5 while I'm 13 today so, not far behind. I put on weight and makes me feel down, I know it's normal but also it's going up so quick I feel bad.

I'm a worrier by nature and I've seen the NT is 2.4mm and I feel a little bit concerned. The sonographer said it's inside the parameters but still I think it's quite high specially because my age factor. Let's hope everything is alright. If it's come as low risk I think I'll get the NIPT anyway, just to give me some peace.

I hope the rest of you who have scans have they come back fine.

@UrbanSquirrel i'm Spaniard and having 30 degrees is quines of a nice Summer day (normally we reach 36 - 40 nowadays there from June to August if we are lucky. Last year was he'll and my mum said that they were an average of 35 for hours everyday from mid May to mid September) so, I am feeling fine with the heat here. I'd be dying there right now. Hahahaha

On the other hand, in winter I feel quite colder to other ppl in general and I have colleagues who wear shorts and t-shirts it makes me feel freezing just seeing them. It's the other side of the coin. I'm not build for cold.

UrbanSquirrel · 02/08/2024 10:42

@Piluka I envy your Spanish genes! I wish I could enjoy the heat, but I just turn the colour of a lobster. Still, more excuse to eat ice cream, hmm? 🍦😉

Regarding your scan, I'm so pleased to hear everything is looking good, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the results come back low risk. On the other hand, if you feel that an NIPT would help to reassure you, then I would thoroughly recommend it. It is expensive, but I felt it was worth it, because I worry a lot, and I like to have all the information as soon as possible ☺️

Take care of yourself 🤗 x

@QuantumPanic thanks for sharing that website, there the measures looks lovely, I hope it turns out as low risk. 🤞🤞 However I read on other places that up to 2.5mm is inside "normal" so finding the baby is close to the "higher" side (2.4) makes me feel uneasy (plus my age 38) and being also my first is a little bit overwhelmed I guess. Let's see what they say.

@UrbanSquirrel my skin is like yours. In Spain I used to stand out because I'm quite pale in summer compared to the "average" Spaniard. I'm from the north though, so we're paler than the southerners mainly because is more cloudy and chiller than the south. My partner, his roots are from Andalusia and his skin is better with sun. I burn myself and then peel as a prawn banana. Lol. I just developed heat tolerance. I've been mistaken as a polish and Irish because my appearance, once I speak you got me, hahaha my accent is a shower off though. Btw, thanks for your kind words. :) ohh, about the NIPT I tried to book it for last Saturday but it said something about leaving 2 weeks between scans (I don't know why) but I'll get one, I don't mind the price if it helps to calm myself down.

Pepsix · 02/08/2024 11:17

Good to see you back @UrbanSquirrel and glad all is well!

I hit 11 weeks yesterday and have had nausea for the last 5-6 weeks then today I have just vomited for the first time, I was hoping the symptoms would start to ease not get worse 🫣 has anyone else had this?

herewegoagain123456 · 02/08/2024 11:24

So glad everyone is having good scans 😍

I still haven't heard anything from a midwife about booking appointment or 12 week scan.

Not sure when I should ring and ask 🤷🏽‍♀️

UrbanSquirrel · 02/08/2024 11:28

How far along are you now @herewegoagain123456? Might be worth just checking in with your GP or maternity unit or whoever it was you registered with, just to give them a bit of a nudge?

Gosh, @Pepsix, that sounds horrible and very unfair. Has it been hot where you are and, if so, could it be a reaction to heat / humidity? Hope you feel better very soon. That sounds rotten 🤗 x

OP posts:
Pepsix · 02/08/2024 11:35

@UrbanSquirrel no not particularly hot, definitely warmer than we are used to up north but nothing above 20 at the minute 🫣
I’ve just been reading old threads where a lot of other ladies felt rotten at 11 weeks too so hoping it’s all normal or maybe a one off!

My mind has been in overdrive anyway as my symptoms seemed to lessen over the last couple of days so I was worried something was wrong then bang here it comes back with vomit this time😆

I have my 12 week scan on Thursday so fingers crossed all ok 👌

Apple22over7 · 02/08/2024 11:52

It's great to hear so many scans and tests going well!

I feel a bit in limbo at the moment. Had what should have been the 12 week scan/combined screening on Tuesday, but I was only 11w+1 and they couldn't get an NT measurement, so I've got to go back on the 13th. We've considered the NIPT, but can't really justify the cost and it's not going to change the outcome, so we'll just go along with the NHS screening. It's not unlikely that we'll need the NIPT/further tests anyway (I'm 36 and high bmi), but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

In the meantime, I'm trying to remind myself that just because I'm old and fat (sorry, "of advanced maternal age and with high bmi"..) doesn't meant that complications and issues are a forgone conclusion. There's a higher chance, sure, but it's still fairly low and it's not a guarantee. The biggest risks were around miscarriage in the first 12 weeks, and I managed to get to 10w without even knowing I was pregnant and doing all the things you're not meant to do when pregnant (including two trips to theme parks and riding roller coasters!). So I'm hopeful that my little project is fairly resilient.

I’m also on the fence about whether to get NIPT. It’s so expensive and I really can’t afford it, but it concerns me that the combined test is only about 80% accurate. Argh!

Lidlisthebusiness · 02/08/2024 15:45

@Moyaingoya and @Apple22over7 if you have the normal screening and your risks come back as higher, you can have the NIPT through the NHS anyway, so you can still opt to find out more if there's reason too. I'd never even heard of this test until it was mentioned on this thread, and I've been having babies since 2009. I've never had anything more than the general tests offered by the NHS.

SBelfast · 02/08/2024 16:28

Hi everyone just a quick update from me. Had my booking apt, first any appointment really and despite the long wait it was a really positive experience. Everyone was really nice, had my scan also and est due date is 9th Feb :)
Just waiting on NIPT results.

UrbanSquirrel · 02/08/2024 17:52

@SBelfast Brilliant, glad to hear you got a scan too. That's great news! Glad it all went well 👏🏻 x

So many ladies on here getting NIPT. Starting to think maybe I should have. My NHS scan and screening is Tuesday so will see how that goes and go from there.

I didn’t if that makes you feel less alone! It was another thing to try and fit in on my own with my kids, if I come back high risk on my NHS screening I’ll reconsider. It isn’t cheap!

LilacSnail · 02/08/2024 20:25

@SBelfast yay, great you had your booking app and scan. Glad it went well. Maybe the care path is slightly different in Ireland?

@Pepsix Sorry to hear you are feeling rough. If it’s a reassurance, 11 weeks was awful for me too. I’ve been struggling a lot with nausea, vomiting and food aversion. Just over 12 weeks now and I think the aversion is reducing.

Just to say, I didn’t have the NIPT with my first, didn’t really know what it was. Just this time round we want to tell DD first, as she’s old enough to understand. So I wanted to wait for 12 week scan and screening results. We’ve got a trip with family after 12 week scan but pre results. There’s no way they wouldn’t guess when they see me not drinking so that’s why we went for the NIPT. I’d already had an early scan at Window to the Womb so could just book the blood test. It was still so so expensive but a bit better! X

My nausea got a lot worse before it (finally) started easing off the last couple of days- I’m 13+2. I think the 11th week was the absolute worst for me!! Fingers crossed it doesn’t last too much longer for you 🤞

I've decided not to get the NIPT, my screening results have come back low risk and I'm happy with that. Never even really heard of it with my first.

elb1504 · 02/08/2024 21:19

@Pepsix weeks 10/11 were pretty rubbish for me definitely the worst ones and whilst I'm still feeling nauseous occasionally it's much better now (14+3) so hang in there it will get better!

Piluka · 02/08/2024 23:30

@SBelfast 9th of Feb it's our due date. We had the scan the same day and the due date same day. Hahahaha.

Redapple21 · 03/08/2024 06:53

Thanks for your replies @OrangeSlices998 and @elb1504 - I didn't realise it was so popular to get the NIPT, I understand why people do it, but same I didn't get it for my first baby. I will see how I get on with NHS results.
