Hello!

I know there are quite a few threads like this, but thought I’d start a new one for those of us going through this just now šŸ™‚

I found out about my MMC at what should have been 7.5 weeks (no growth since 5). Had to have a D&C as my body wouldn’t let go. That was back in mid-April.

I’ve had one period since then and it now looks like I’m pregnant again! Can’t believe we’ve been so luckily to fall again so quickly.

Got a vfl yesterday at 10dpo and the line is a bit darker today at 11dpo. Pic attached has 11dpo at the top and 10dpo bottom. What a shock when I saw that line!

Anyway, I’m already feeling nervous about everything so I thought I’d make a space for people in a similar position to join. Maybe we can help to calm each others’ nerves a bit šŸ’œ

Like @CosmicLove I have also never spotted. In my successful pregnancy though I've bled clots in week 7 sure it was all over just to see a heartbeat at 7+2 and all well from then on, so I think it's so hard to know until the very end.
@purplecolouroffunk it sounds like what I've read about breakthrough bleeding, body realizes pregnancy and stops doing what it does. Just something to keep in mind, spotting may be helped by progesterone if the levels are low. But it all sounds normal in any case.

purplecolouroffunk · 24/06/2024 16:58

@Lemonbalm8 oh yes I’ve heard of that! Maybe I’ll read about it.

The progesterone thing is why I’m thinking of calling the EPU, just to check if I should have any tests or anything. In my last pregnancy I had a test at 7dpo and it was 31.8 nmol/l, so not the highest but low end of ā€˜normal’.

Lemonbalm8 · 24/06/2024 17:01

@purplecolouroffunk you can do progesterone test as well and it should give you indication of whether you need it. Results should be back within a day

purplecolouroffunk · 24/06/2024 17:05

@Lemonbalm8 maybe I’ll see if they’ll do that. I have a feeling they might say no cause I’m not spotting now, but you never know. Thank you!

@Lemonbalm8 @purplecolouroffunk the EPU nurse I spoke to today said I would be a candidate for progesterone but that they wouldn't give it until they'd confirmed pregnancy was in the correct place via scan. So I'm hoping that I might get it next Thursday if they think it might help me xx

MrsB2019x · 24/06/2024 20:01

@CosmicLove Out of interest what made them say you’re a candidate for progesterone? Is it because of having a loss before? Just want to arm myself with info before going to my scan on Wednesday

Welcome @torturedpoet13 and @Mommabear96 šŸ’– sorry you find yourself here because of loss but you’re in good company!

CosmicLove · 24/06/2024 20:36

@MrsB2019x I believe it was the fact I've had a loss and the fact that I'm spotting now. I had found a Scottish Government / NHS thing online for my NHS trust that said that a pregnant woman with a history of miscarriage who is spotting should be considered for progesterone. It didn't specify how many losses the woman would need to have had, although when I miscarried in April, I was told it was 3 MCs before I'd be considered for progesterone. The nurse agreed I was a candidate and said I may get it on the day if the scan is okay. I think you could certainly push for it if it might help. Maybe do some research online before your appointment to see if you can find any guidance within your NHS trust about its use when spotting / history of loss xx

Mommabear96 · 24/06/2024 20:52

@MrsB2019x thank you🄰 I had a chemical the month before I conceived our little boy (now 22 months) so I think my body just likes to have a little ā€˜trial run’ before a successful pregnancy. So hoping this time goes well!šŸ¤žšŸ»
Can’t wait to see him have a little brother or sister 🄹

How far along is everyone on here?? What are our due dates?! šŸ˜ xx

Check out this link: I don't know why nhs is so backwards... It supports pregnancy.

How effective is progesterone treatment?
If you have had 1 or 2 miscarriages, taking progesterone in early pregnancy may increase your chances of having a successful pregnancy by 5%.

If you have had 3 or more miscarriages (recurrent miscarriage), taking progesterone in early pregnancy may increase your chances of having a successful pregnancy by 15%.

Taking progesterone in early pregnancy

Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy.

MrsB2019x · 24/06/2024 22:33

Thanks @Lemonbalm8 that’s an interesting read and really helpful, I’m sure I’ll get ā€œbut spotting in pregnancy can be totally normalā€ but it’s been going on for a week now. No harm in mentioning it I guess!

@CosmicLove Yeah that makes sense, I was told when I had my MMC it needs to be 3 losses in a row before I get ā€œhelpā€ šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø think it varies wildly by trust

@Mommabear96 A ā€˜trial run’ makes it sound so much better! I’m 4+5, due 26th Feb. Saw earlier you’re 11dpo, what does that make your due date?

@purplecolouroffunk Did you end up taking another test today?

purplecolouroffunk · 25/06/2024 00:25

@MrsB2019x I took another test this evening and I think it’s looking good! Not a huuge difference from Friday but think it’s looking okay? 12, 13, 16 DPO from bottom to top 😊

@Mommabear96 my due date should be 1 March. That would be so lovely if everything works out as it’s the same date as my nana’s birthday who sadly died years ago šŸ’œ

@MrsB2019x yeah a trial run is how a family friend of mine described it, she’s also a nurse and said it’s so much more common than everyone thinks. And yeah it’s just your body having a practice with it all before doing it properly. And although it’s all still sad I do think that was a good way to view it🄰

I’m due 6th March so we are all very close together then! But I expect and hope I’ll have an end of Feb baby as my last was 3 weeks early āœŒšŸ»

@purplecolouroffunk lines looking good! Well done girly 😘✨

Lemonbalm8 · 25/06/2024 08:37

@purplecolouroffunk the lines look great!!!

Lemonbalm8 · 25/06/2024 08:55

So I did a test this morning! It looks exactly same as dpo 3 days ago. I'm dpo 20. To be fair, they are both quite strong... Easyhome tests are not very strong are they

MrsB2019x · 25/06/2024 09:28

@purplecolouroffunk Lines are looking good, especially as the last one was done in the evening!

@Lemonbalm8 I’ve never had a dye stealer on Easy at home, FRERs are the best for those but they’re so hard to get now!

As much as I said I wasn’t going to do another test I did one yesterday (19dpo), I don’t think it’ll get much darker than this because of the brand so I’m definitely stopping now!!

Lemonbalm8 · 25/06/2024 09:39

@MrsB2019x exactly easyhome tests are not very reassuring! I have exactly same line dpo 20 and dpo 17. Your line looks like mine, it's good strong line but yes no dye stealer either here

Lemonbalm8 · 25/06/2024 09:44

Now that it's dried up, maybe it's a bit stronger but at 10 min mark test looked same as control

MrsB2019x · 25/06/2024 09:53

I’d say that’s the beginnings of a dye stealer @Lemonbalm8 , the test line is definitely darker than the control line 🄳

I think easyhome is not standardized and so not possible to compare. I had fairly good hcgs last time (they weren't rising well though), even at 1500 hcg on dpo 23, easyhome test was lighter than control. I'm fairly sure I'm nowhere near those levels on dpo 17.
Also they're drying out all differently.
Still the only test I have lying around, so tempting, as there is nothing else I can do!

purplecolouroffunk · 25/06/2024 10:14

@MrsB2019x and @Lemonbalm8 those lines are looking great!! So nice and bold.

I’m spiralling a bit this morning - did not have a good sleep last night thinking about everything.

I really don’t know what to do about getting a scan. The NHS won’t give you an early scan unless you’ve had 3 losses which seems so horrible but I get it.

A lot of the private scan places in or near Edinburgh (where I am) get really mixed reviews. I’m so scared to go to one and be told I’ve had another loss! I’m going to wait til 8 weeks but wanted to get something booked in somewhere.

We have a Window to the Womb here that seems to get the best reviews, but their website says they don’t check for a heartbeat before 15 weeks, like…what?

You could also go to IVF clinics, they should allow you to do early pregnancy scan even if you had gotten pregnant naturally. That's what I'm doing this time, I got a nearly week 7 scan with IVF clinic I was supposed to start with. You could say you are anxious and not getting the answers from NHS. But window to womb should offer a proper scan at week 8, I had that with my little boy at week 9 (I had one with NHS as I was bleeding on week 7 and then due to anxiety had a private scan with window to womb 2 weeks later, they definitely would have checked measurements and heartbeat)

KittyFantastica · 25/06/2024 11:06

I realise it might be different in different areas @purplecolouroffunk but my EPU told me to contact them if I ever got pregnant again and they'd scan me early because I'd had two losses. They also scan people for pain and bleeding, have you had any?

I also had private scan last time and it was fine. They couldn't tell me anything conclusive because they are not the nhs and therefore not diagnostic, but I could see what was what from it. It did what I needed it to.

I'm sorry you're not feeling great, it's like the moment we find out the joy of a positive test lasts about a day and then the anxiety hits you like a bus.

Just to reassure people, my tests all looked the same between 16DPO and 23DPO. Test line about as dark as control line. I got a proper dye stealer yesterday on 25DPO. I haven't worried about it much this time as last time I had clear dye stealers from 20DPO and it ended in MMC. I only continued to test so I could be prepared if it was another chemical as the line changes don't do much to reassure me.

purplecolouroffunk · 25/06/2024 11:13

@Lemonbalm8 I feel like I’d be too scared or feel a bit weird going to an IVF clinic since I got pregnant naturally and quickly both times šŸ˜• I’m really glad you’re able to get a scan with them!

Oh yeah, looking at W2W’s website they do look at heartbeat. I looked at so many places last night that I must have got it mixed up with another one that doesn’t do heartbeat til 15 weeks šŸ˜‚

CosmicLove · 25/06/2024 11:13

@purplecolouroffunk sorry you're feeling so worried. It's so hard isn't it. You could call EPU and say you've had some spotting. (Although it was a bit earlier on and it seems to have resolved now.) Technically that's not a lie. When I had my MMC in April, I asked the EPU nurse if they would be happy to scan me when I fell pregnant again to make sure everything was okay. She said they don't offer routine reassurance scans but they would scan if any bleeding or pain and that they have a very low threshold. I'm NHS Forth Valley so not sure if Lothian is different though. Worth a shot xx
