Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.
If you’re new to the thread, we are a friendly and supportive bunch all in it together and hoping to welcome our new additions in November 2024!

Hello ladies, can’t believe we’re on thread 3 already! Anyone had their NIPT yet? We have ours tomorrow x

piechipsgravy · 07/04/2024 18:27

Also can't believe it's thread 3 already! Mainly because me and @shohopeful were the fjrst 2 people on the first thread so feel like I've been lurking about forever 😂

@Jellybelly888 I don't think we'll do an NIPT because we're doing screening with dating scan but tbh I haven't looked that much into the difference. What's the benefit of doing it beforehand? Are you finding out gender?

I’m not even entirely sure what an NIPT is. I know some of you are having them done privately - is it something offered on the NHS or only if you have certain results at the dating scan?

@waryandbored thanks for the new thread!!

@Jellybelly888 not yet, don't have my booking appointment until 10 weeks (currently 6+5) so probably in May. Think you have to have a scan first right?

Riverstardust · 07/04/2024 18:30

@waryandbored it's a test about 10 weeks to check for some chromosome issues such as downs. You can find out the sex then too if you wish.

muddlingthrou · 07/04/2024 18:32

I haven't got my booking in appointment until 11+4, and haven't heard anything about my dating scan yet... I am however getting scanned by the hospital next week as under hospital care for sickness so that's what's stopping me panicking.

NIPT wise... I think we're going to stick with the standard NHS screening. I'm tempted though!

mrssunshinexxx · 07/04/2024 18:33

@Jellybelly888 hope your scan goes well.
No screening at all here x

Sparksi · 07/04/2024 18:34

Hello, place marking

Booking appointment tomorrow morning! Eek, not sure what to expect?! Anyone had theirs yet?

Daisychain27 · 07/04/2024 18:35

Here to 1) mark my place and 2) just to say I think I’ve found the best snack for nausea ever, plain mcvities digestives! I am absolutely loving them 😁

Jellybelly888 · 07/04/2024 18:39

Thank you for your replies. No, NIPT is private and expensive really but I suppose it’s personal preference. The NHS screening flagged me as high risk at 12 weeks my DS and we had 8 weeks of worry before a CVS that confirmed baby was actually fine. I promised myself I wouldn’t do that again so we are having a NIPT and not having the NHS screening (we are still having the 12 week scan though). The NIPT tests for 15 different abnormalities whereas the NHS is for three I believe. NIPT tests the baby’s DNA and is more than 99.99% accurate so I think it will just ease my anxiety.

I hope that helps x

piechipsgravy · 07/04/2024 18:43

@Sparksi good luck! Mine isn't until the 16th (I'll be 10+6) so let us know what it involves etc!

@Daisychain27 I've also been keeping digestives by my bedside table but think I overdid it and now they are making me nauseous by association 😭 might swap to rich teas before I hate digestives forever as I usually love them!

@Jellybelly888 that's really helpful- thanks for the explanation. Fingers crossed for you that it all comes back clear x

That makes total sense. I am more worried about the screening this time than I was first time around as I’m older now. I think I’ll speak to DP about it. How much have you paid if you don’t mind me asking? Will you find out the sex too?
Last time, DP really didn’t want to find out so we didn’t but he said it’s my choice this time so I think we will!

The NHS does offer NIPT testing to women who's NHS screening comes out as higher risk for trisomy so you will get it for free if your dating scan (nuchal thickness measurements), booking bloods and maternal age put you at higher risk.

Thanks, that’s good to know. I am 36 so a bit older than I’d hoped I would be for my second pregnancy but we had DS later than planned too!
Is your username a hint to where you’re based? I am SW - Dorset way.

@Sparksi I had my booking appointment at 5 weeks - I have no idea why it was so early, I had phoned my doctors to tell them and then received a booking appointment letter for literally that week. Mine was at the hospital. It was mainly lots of lots of questions about family history, your medical history etc. She took height, weight & some bloods. I got access to a website called my pregnancy notes which is fab, that’s where all the blood tests results were uploaded etc and all appointments are recorded on there. She also booked my 20 week appointment during that appointment, but I got the 12 week scan letter through the post.

They do now which I think is amazing. They didn’t in 2017 when I had DS though sadly and the wait for the CVS at 20 weeks was agonising. I think for me, the anxiety if there for the NHS screening because of last time, so NIPT for me just helps with that x

Jellybelly888 · 07/04/2024 19:32

@waryandbored the NIPT has cost us £400 and that’s with a scan too. We are in Cheshire but not sure if the price changes on area. You can find out the sex with the NIPT from 10 weeks but we are opting not to eeekkk!

I’ve also had two friends in their 30s who were given low risk by the NHS and both had babies with DS when they were born. So being 36 in this pregnancy had made me opt for the NIPT straight away.

@Jellybelly888 other than the scan, is it just bloods they do? And does it have to be done before a particular number of weeks? Xx

Yes it’s just a blood test and you can have it done from 10 weeks. They tend to do the blood test after your scan at the same appointment and the results are back within 3 days.

JL1989 · 07/04/2024 20:07

I’ll be getting the NIPT, at just after 10 weeks. I went through TFMR in my first pregnancy which was initially flagged at my NIPT test before getting a CVS to confirm. My understanding is it’s more accurate than the NHS testing, however the NHS 20 week scan will flag any problems, I just want as much information as early as possible. I’ll also be getting the full microarray (Panorama NIPT test) which tests for more genetic conditions, very unlikely odds and these do have higher rates of false positives so it’s a very personal choice.

Westy22 · 07/04/2024 20:09

Booking appointment for me on Tuesday, second pregnancy but my first appointment as I had to cancel the first time round due to MC so super nervous. Hoping to get my 12 week scan date then, if its not soon I'm going for a private one as I've not been scanned since 7+5 and the anxiety is growing 🙈 9+4 now.

Decided we're not doing the screening, I'm 37 so feel like I'm probably going to get a high risk score anyway, so we've agreed it won't change anything for us so no point having the anxiety 🙈

Feel like I've had an easy first trimester so far with only the odd wave of nausea, main thing that's different for me is I need to eat alllll the time 🐷 I've wished for the sickness but reading some of your posts I think maybe I need to stop that 🤣🙈 well aware it could creep up and slap me in the face at any point. X

Hi everyone! Thanks for new group 😍

I’m reading everyone’s messages and it’s starting to panic me a bit. Other than sore (and huge!) boobs, being hungry, and a bit of tiredness, I feel absolutely fine! Maybe it’s yet to come? I’m 6+1.

Very light spotting is still going, on and off. EPU told me to call them back after 6 weeks if it’s still going, so will give them a call tomorrow. I’m not feeling particularly worried about it cause it’s so light and definitely not every wipe, but be good to get to the bottom of it.

I’m a chronic luteal spotter too, so I’m wondering what the common denominator is!!

I was the same. My boobs hurt and I was a bit tired but I kept thinking if I hadn’t had a positive test then I’d have no clue I was pregnant!
My nausea started on 6+0 but was really mild and just a couple of times a day until 6+4 when it really ramped up and I started vomiting as well.. so you may well have it all to come! I am 7+4 now and very nauseous, a bit sick and blooming shattered! Boobs still hurt a bit but not terrible.. Some people don’t get nausea or sickness though so maybe you’re one of the lucky ones!

@purplecolouroffunk oops, meant to say as well that I had spotting for 2 weeks which stopped a week ago. Hoping it doesn’t return as it really isn’t nice to see!
