@Lillers @MudandMoet hate to break it to you guys but children come with so many terrible plastic toys. There's no hiding this stuff 🤣 my house could pass as a toy shop!

Lillers · 11/04/2024 21:18

@SC126 Funnily enough before DH and I decided we wanted children, we were both in the “not sure” camp - for me it was because I wasn’t sure about bringing kids into a world that seems to be falling apart, while my husband’s main concern was that he is vehemently against single-use plastic 😂

Same 😂😂 to begin with I was buying all these lovely neutral wooden scandi born/little Dutch/konges slojd bits.. and now we are over run with multi coloured plastic. It slowly happens over time and before you know it, your house resembles a nursery 🥲

rupertbear91 · 11/04/2024 22:06

@BeautyAndTheBump1 does it work for you to just fold the waist band down? I do it when I'm feeling really sick with mine as I don't like the pressing on my stomach. Won't work in summer when it's hot though!

I felt like I was missing out on the bump pics so did a comparison tonight I didn't realise quite how much my bump had popped in the last 10 days 😂😂

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 12/04/2024 09:14

@rupertbear91 I normally do if they're high waist with a thin waistband but they've all got really thick waistbands! 😫 lovely bump pics btw!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 12/04/2024 09:18

Idk why but I've suddenly turned really conscious and worried that my gender scan is wrong and I'll go to the NHS one and they'll tell me it's actually a boy and not a girl.

Zero reasons - sonographer found the gender straight away and didn't say she struggled or wasn't sure or anything like that! We didn't see the potty shot though as she put the gender in an envelope for us.

I think it's because I already have a boy so was half expecting it to be another boy. But I think its cus I know there's a bigger chance of it being wrong when they tell you girl

Khanga27 · 12/04/2024 10:39

We have our 20 week scan on Monday where we will find out the gender. We have no plans of a gender reveal party or anything like that, but we have had the chat about whether we are happy for the sonographer to just tell us or whether we would rather have it written down to open as a private moment just the two of us at home (if NHS actually do this). What are people’s thoughts on this?

tryingfortwo2 · 12/04/2024 10:40

@BeautyAndTheBump1 maybe it’s good that you’re considering it a possibility? I was the same with my first girl, randomly convinced they might’ve gotten it wrong or it was too early to be obviously a boy (it wasn’t, she’s a lovely little girl 😂).

At least it’s not just one scan, it’s good you’ve had a private scan then NHS coming up - you’ll get double confirmation!🤞🏻

tryingfortwo2 · 12/04/2024 10:46

@Khanga27 we found out in the room both times so I can’t comment on the choice, but what I would mention is that it can be quite obvious haha. If the sonographer needs to spend any sort of time around there to be sure, if you’re looking at the screen there’s a fair chance you could see. So on that basis, if you choose the envelope plan, I’d ask them to tell you when to look away in the room.

Do you or your partner have a gender preference? A friend of mine had her heart set on a little girl, so didn’t want to find out in the room as she was self-conscious about a stranger potentially seeing her temporarily disappointed, or have to work through the feelings in front of people. Maybe a consideration?

Khanga27 · 12/04/2024 11:30

@tryingfortwo2 thanks, I hadn’t thought about how obvious it might be on the scan so that’s really good to know ha (this is our first). Neither of us have a preference on gender at all, and at one point we did consider keeping a surprise, but we felt while we don’t have a preference it would still be nice to know.

We did this with my daughter! The sonographer wrote it down for us and we took the envelope down the beach that evening at sunset - it was a lovely way to find out!

SC126 · 12/04/2024 12:38

@Khanga27 you might find that most nhs hospitals won't write it down for you. Might be worth checking if they will so you are not disappointed.

cd24x · 12/04/2024 12:43

@Khanga27 echoing @SC126. Our hospital has signs up in the waiting room that they will only disclose gender verbally during 20 week scan and no sonographers will write it down. There is also the caveat on the signs that the gender details verbally given at the scan are the opinion of the sonographer at the time and does not guarantee that it is 100% correct. I guess it's to protect themselves if later down the line someone tries to argue if it's wrong.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 12/04/2024 15:33

Well I'm happy now - the place I had my gender scan at have very kindly emailed me a potty shot from our scan and there appears to be no sausage and nuggets in-between the legs, so I need to start believing it really is a girl inside there now 🤣

hol92 · 12/04/2024 19:56

Is anyone else feeling movement? I'm 17 weeks and still haven't felt a thing but did with my son by now x

SC126 · 12/04/2024 20:26

@hol92 I'm over 18 weeks now but only really started feeling kicks this week and second pregnancy. I have an anterior placenta too and usually it takes longer but apparently this boy has strong legs. I wasn't worrying though since i knew it was anterior again this time, i had mentally prepared myself to not feel anything until after 20 weeks so don't worry at all yet. I seem to have skipped the flutters stage too and gone straight to tiny kicks so maybe the placenta position has something to do with that. Just imagine how much more excited you will be when it happens from all the waiting and anticipation!

hol92 · 12/04/2024 20:41

@SC126 it's funny you should say that! My first was anterior and I felt him around 17 weeks but they told me I wouldn't feel anything for ages so was really shocked when I lay on the bed feeling little kicks! this time it's posterior so I think in my head I thought it would be sooner, like you said will try not to worry though :) I just can't wait to feel them 🥰 x

Emmaev · 12/04/2024 20:58

@hol92 I’m 19+4 and it’s only been the last few days I’ve felt proper unmistakable baby kicks. Before then it was is it gas or the baby kinda feeling.

I expected to feel baby sooner as this is my second, but no. I don’t feel baby all the time. Depends what position it is in and they’re definitely moving all round my belly and is very active.

I felt my daughter around 16 weeks so was starting to panic, but this baby just likes to hide in my pelvis and swim up occasionally.

Xur · 12/04/2024 21:45

on the topic of baby kicks I got so worried about the peace in my belly yesterday that my friend ended up bringing me her fetal Doppler and we had a listen to the baby today just to make sure he is alright 🥹

longingtobe23 · 12/04/2024 22:26

@BeautyAndTheBump1 im having the same woes! As I found a photo of my sons potty shot early days and it looks so similar and they’ve told me girl 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
I’ve watched the private video 3 x now and I spotted girl as many times so… I’ll just have to trust it (and keep receipts) I have way to many pink things already oops

TripleESept24 · 12/04/2024 22:36

I can definitely feel baby girl doing somersaults mainly in bed when I lie on my side, and for some reason when I am climbing the hill on my walk to the bus after work 😆 I feel her more on the right side of my belly

TripleESept24 · 12/04/2024 22:42

Also.... Might be a silly question but .... My daughter was 20 years ago and I can't remember 😆

We have the Tutti Bambini next to me crib, we put it up yesterday to make sure all parts were there and it wasn't damaged. Surprised how easy it was to put up and take down and how big it is! It says up to 6 months..... We also have our cot for the nursery...... What age do you think they should start going down in the cot in their own room rather than the bedside crib??

Happylittlebump · 13/04/2024 00:17

I have just been listening to a great Hypnobirthing podcast, I think I will look out for a course to go on. I will be 16 weeks on Sunday, still only a small bump at the moment.

SC126 · 13/04/2024 06:46

@TripleESept24 its recommended that they don't go into their own room until 6 months old at night. I don't remember putting them down for naps in there until around that time too but my son was clingy and liked being held for naps.

LSW82 · 13/04/2024 07:31

@TripleESept24 current advice is they should be in the same room as you / someone for all naps & overnight. The lullaby trust is a good website for safe sleep advice. My son was a contact napper until 6 months anyway, (sometimes went in his Moses basket too), & in his snuzpod next to me at night. He's always been a great sleeper & transferred to cot in his room no bother, not sure how I'll cope with a bad sleeper 😴
