Has anyone thought about having a Doula with you at the birth/postpartum? It’s not something I’ve ever thought about, I’ve heard the term and thought it was more an American thing. The reason I ask, is that a Doula contacted me earlier and it just got me doing some research into it - the post partum support in terms of meals and someone to support your recovery sounds amazing.. however it obviously comes at a price!

Random post of the day but... finally the weather meant we can finally get on the land and get some more crops in!! Little bumps first afternoon drilling with Daddy 💚 🌾 I've since come in to start tea and he sent me a message saying - it was so lovely to have all my little family on board with me today... 🥹🥹🥹 all kinds of happy that made me.

On a totally separate note, to the ladies that already have children and got stretch marks, when, if you can remember did they appear? I'm so lazy with creaming up so use the 96hr nourishing moisture cream and not sure this even helps but was just wondering? xx

SC126 · 30/04/2024 18:55

@MudandMoet they appear more towards the end of the pregnancy and you might not see them much until after birth when things are not so stretched. I religiously used cream with my first and had next to no stretch marks so this time I'm also making sure I use cocoa butter daily 🤣

They happened nearer the end with my first. I cream every day but if your gonna get them your gonna get them! Hoping mine won't worsen at all as mine were quite deep thick ones on the sides of my tummy, so far so good no new ones! 🤞

Honeyandsunshine1 · 30/04/2024 20:00

Thanks everyone for your aspirin info! @Emmaev @cd24x and whoever else I’ve forgotten 😥 turns out, you can buy it over tbe Counter still! I think that’s what you said as well Emma. So I down the morning frantically trying to get through to GP and the finally did me a prescription. I went to my usual pharmacy and asked if I could use the prescription but pay because I’d rather not charge the nhs £2.95, for him to tell me “you can just pay for it without prescription”.

ffsss munnn, what a wild goose chase for some bloody aspirin. I was actually so annoyed I felt like walking back into the original pharmacy on my way home and showing them the box like 🖕🏻 got it prescription-free you bunch of dicks. But actually talked myself out of it

Honeyandsunshine1 · 30/04/2024 20:04

WinsandSam · 30/04/2024 13:34

@Honeyandsunshine1 @SC126 my OB consultant told me to buy it from supermarkets. I got a stash from Asda but you can get it anywhere on the shelf, just not in bulk loads. They are 300mg tablets so I have to half them

This is such a good idea. Thank you! You’re more helpful than 3 members staff put together in the first pharmacy 🤣

is everyone here on 150mg or 75mg? I had my originally booking in appointment with 1 hospital who told me 150mg, then I moved after that appointment as they just scaremongered the whole time, and so when I went to second hospital they told me 75mg. I’ve been doing 150mg to be safe and all seems well so far??

rupertbear91 · 30/04/2024 20:18

Aww @MudandMoet you have a jack russel too we have 2 💕

Xur · 30/04/2024 20:24

@Honeyandsunshine1 I am on 150, obviously I have 75mg packs so I just have to take two per day.

congratulations @TripleESept24.

Khanga27 · 30/04/2024 20:27

Does anyone use headspace? I saw they have pregnancy and birth meditations which I thought might calm me for what’s to come..

Jojod12 · 30/04/2024 20:36

hi ladies, those who can feel baby move are the feelings in the cervix area? I have like a dull aching sensation going on in my cervix area but Im thinking is that the baby or is it too low to be the baby’s movements? Obviously googling it and worrying there’s something wrong and thinking I have an infection. Thanks

Emmaev · 30/04/2024 20:55

@Honeyandsunshine1 glad you got it sorted! No idea why the original pharmacy would say you need a prescription when you can get it so easily. It’s £2 for 100 in Tesco. I’m on 150mg, so I just take 2.

@Jojod12 yes baby girl is very happy to be kicking my cervix all day and night, it’s a weird sensation. But all kicks and movements have been below my belly button. I’m 22+1

Is anyone going to be having anymore private scans? I had an amazing scan at 25 weeks with DD that was 3d and showed her little face. However I’ll be having growth scans at 28,32,36 & 40 this time so I’m not sure whether to do it again?

Jojod12 · 30/04/2024 21:13

Thanks @Emmaev after a bit more googling I’ve realised it is baby putting pressure on my pelvis and groin area. Such weird sensation 😀 it’s almost making me feel like I’m starting with a water infection.

Xur · 30/04/2024 21:31

@Jojod12 I have the same sensations, some days it’s discomfort, some days it’s light pains at times.

on the back of stretch mark creaming, I’ve also been lazy to put it on but I’ve bitten the bullet and done it EVERY NIGHT after shower. But I do have to push myself to go do it, I put it on my belly, back, bum and both tights. I’ve already gone through one bottle of Palmers. What motivated me was when my friend told me she had new blue ones appear on bum 10 days after baby was born. I don’t want none of that so I’ll drown myself in Palmers cream. If they appear that means it’s too late then so I’m not fixing to sit on that. 🤞🏻

@Emmaev I will be having a 4D scan when the time comes. So in about 5 weeks.

PoppingUp · 30/04/2024 21:41

@Jojod12 yeah I've been getting that every few days too- I feel a lot slower and more sluggish when they're hanging out so low. A wee taster of what it'll be like in the third trimester maybe!

Mine's definitely moving around quite a lot now, even though I'm still not feeling many movements. More a sense of fullness or stretching wherever they are hanging out. I don't think I'm very attuned to the actual movements as while I've felt the occasional light kick or two I don't recognise anything like the rolling sensations that others have described. I woke up yesterday though to my bump all up and to one side where baby was pressing against it. It was the first time I got a proper sense of there actually being a baby in there ☺️

Xur · 30/04/2024 21:50

@HRP1990 btw doula actually…is a pagan thing originated from Northern Europe.
Historically the Northern tribespeople from areas that have saunas or similar heat houses would use those to give birth because it was a warm and secluded area and the bathhouse was also the cleanest place in the household. So when a woman was about to give birth about 10 days before she would move into the sauna house (a Northern heat house consists of a building that has a foreroom and a sauna room). They would invite other women close to the household and a trusted “experienced woman” aka a doula to join them and the doula would be making herbal teas and baths for the expectant mother to bathe in to cleanse before the childbirth and also to invigorate labour. Then after childbirth another about 10 days the doula would spend time with the young mother and perform all sorts of rituals for both the mum and the baby. These 10 days post birth the new mum still lived in the sauna. For mum it involved baths with herbs and everything else that promoted post natal healing and for the baby it involved all sorts of stuff that would strengthen immunity and stimulate healthy growth. Men were not allowed to come nowhere near a bathhouse that had a pregnant woman or a young mum in it as the whole place was supposed to kept clean and uninterrupted and riding the baby cloud in these circumstances.

MudandMoet · 30/04/2024 22:35

@Honeyandsunshine1 I'm on 150mg of aspirin daily, I get mine from a shop in the next village or boots. As others have said if it's the 300mg tablets I half them or take two of the 75mg x

@rupertbear91 ahhh yes he's my world, 15 soon and spoilt rotten! Such characters aren't they 🧡

@Emmaev I think we'll have a 3d/4d scan purely as it's easier for DH to come if we book a weekend appointment for those ones.

@HRP1990 I have looked into just a postnatal doula as I wouldn't want one for the birth but I'm not sure I can justify the £200 minimum nightly charge. Was thinking so I could get more sleep as I'll be working soon after baby is born but I am a terrible sleeper and wouldn't sleep anyway knowing me. I'm still on the look out for a nanny and going to register on the childcare.co.uk site this week.

The creaming is such a faff and I hate that feeling of stuff being on my skin, it's weird. Never been good at any skincare regime so not surprised really.

longingtobe23 · 30/04/2024 22:48

I didn't get stretch marks until first baby over due by 13 days I was fine at 40 weeks 😅 so I did well until he got extremely heavy and bump was super low I didn't even see them until after birth!

This time I am keeping up creams and oils that feel nice/relaxing and bonding with baby but as those say it's one of those things you get them or you don't but some nice skin care is good as I do remember skin itching towards the end and it was nice for some relief x

Cat2022 · 01/05/2024 06:54

We took my little girl to soft play on Monday and as I was helping her climb around I started getting some cramps. Wasn’t overly worried but it made sad about the fact I might not be able to do as much for her over the summer.

We had our follow up scan yesterday and straight away could see the cord that couldn’t be seen at all last week. They gave me loads of pictures too as they’d felt bad I’d had to come back just for that.

HRP1990 · 01/05/2024 08:28

@Xur @MudandMoet they are expensive! The one I was looking at starts off with 18 hours over 2/3 weeks and that was £700. I suppose when you break it down hourly, it’s not a huge expense. But you do have to be mindful of spending when on maternity leave, especially being self employed.

I’d just like someone to come in and treat me like a queen 😂 make me tea’s, run me baths and make my meals! And perhaps hold the baby so I can shower lol.

Fluffycavut · 01/05/2024 09:09

Hi guys, have had a struggle this week so had media black out. I came off pretty much every after doctors tried to put me on ant anxiety medication and acted like the side effects would be fine despite not reassuring me that non of them would effect the baby. I found on a website they can cause withdrawal symptoms and some development delays ect.

I was on a Facebook group but can't remember it. Though I'm nervous as I had quite a few people on the internet having ago at me regarding the side effects that could case issues with the babies, basically making out I hate people with development issues.

I obviously don't, I actually worked with people who did have a range of different development issues for a while and have relatives and friends with ASD.

I did decide not to go on the medication because of the withdrawal symptoms baby may experience and the fact I'd be under consultation care which I had an extremely bad experience with last time.

Not sure why I'm having the virble vomit tbh other than I'd like to join a Facebook group again but I understand if people don't want me to.

WinsandSam · 01/05/2024 10:28

@Fluffycavut sorry to hear you're been struggling. This is a tough time for us and our brains. It's so hard to know what's right and wrong with MH meds in pregnancy. I'm a MH nurse and work with pregnant women; we only recommend Fluoxetine really even for anxiety and OCD. Promethazine is another one that's ok! There should be a perinatal team who can advise you on meds.

I've also had a rough few weeks and yesterday had an assessment with the perinatal wellbeing service for anxiety and intrusive thoughts (mainly birth related and fear something is going to go wrong.) hoping to start therapy in next couple of weeks.
Not sure if you have similar in your area?

cd24x · 01/05/2024 11:00

Back from scan. Baby was super chilled, laid back with legs crossed just like their big brother was at this stage. Hopefully stays super chilled when they're here! They confirmed anterior placenta so at least that's why I haven't been feeling strong movements.

We're still firmly team surprise 💛 before I'd even laid down on the bed I'd told the sonographer we didn't want to find out. But comparing to DS scan pics, I think we might be having another boy. So I'm mentally preparing myself to be outnumbered!

September 2024 - Thread 6! 🐣🧡💛❤️
Fluffycavut · 01/05/2024 12:00

@WinsandSam

I'm under the perinatal wellbeing service currently it was them that kept pushing the drugs. sertraline, citralopram and the ln quetiapine.

They wouldn't take No for an answer. I considered quetiapine which is the one I went to FB and Red-dit about and pretty much got attacked for asking questions.

I don't feel I need the medication. Just a bit of therapy and support is all I wanted.

tryingfortwo2 · 01/05/2024 12:35

All the doula chat is so interesting! I’ve never known someone who had one, and know I would’ve hated someone in my house in those early days, but I can definitely see the appeal. One of the best gifts I gave myself was cooking extra of all our dinner from about 7months onwards and sticking the extra in foil trays in the freezer. We had dinners on hand for weeks after DD was born and it was such a godsend.

Is anyone else just totally knackered?! Where is the glow?? I do have a pretty full on life busyness wise, so I was expecting to be tired especially with a toddler this time round, but this is next level!

Emmaev · 01/05/2024 13:14

So fed up of feeling sick, sent home again from work after an absolute meltdown.

Migraine and rib pain, did my bp and it was slightly raised at work and just sent me into a massive spiral. The anxiety after a prem baby and pre eclampsia is something else. I had the signs of PE for weeks before I was diagnosed with DD and I’m stressing that I’m going to miss something.

Were investing in a bp matching for at home to hopefully ease the anxiety. But I feel so helpless to control the anxiety
