@HRP1990 slightly different but I’ve booked a week away in Northumberland at the end of July. We have our dog that I can’t trust to be left with anyone for a flight abroad sadly. When I was pregnant with my DS 6 years ago I went Cornwall when I was 32 weeks pregnant and walked up tintagel 😂 I got some very funny looks.

WinsandSam · 31/03/2024 21:01

@FuppinNora I don't blame you! I haven't had a private one yet and wouldn't be if it wasn't for my mum. They're expensive 😅

WinsandSam · 31/03/2024 21:04

@SC126 don't worry, no abroad holiday for us either! We're off to Wales for a week and a weekend in London. Some final gigs before the baby arrives to see Foo fighters and Kings of Leon

rupertbear91 · 31/03/2024 21:49

Ah I'm jealous of all the holidays! We were hoping to go in may half term but too scared to book anything when I'm still having to have fluids for HG every week or two 😔 instead we have booked a nice cottage in the midlands instead of trying to camp in a field in early August when I will be 34 weeks and trying to run 2 of our dogs in the national flyball championships 😂😂 still not quite figured out how I will manage that yet!

tryingfortwo2 · 31/03/2024 21:59

@HRP1990 we’re off to Lanzarote at the end of May/start of June. 4.5hr flight with an almost 2 year old 😬but night flights so hoping she’ll snooze 🤞🏻 I’ll be 27-28weeks.

We did Majorca early May when I was about 33 weeks pregnant with our first (delayed due to having covid, 33 weeks was not the original plan 🙈) and it was lovely but the pools were freeeeezing as it was only about 23/24 during the day. So went for Canaries as more of a guarantee to be warmer so DD can splash around most of the day.

Xur · 31/03/2024 22:52

@HRP1990 I have a mini honeymoon beginning of June. Me and my husband even though we’ve been together for years and call each other spouses we are not actually married so we are going to have a small wedding beginning of June followed by a baby moon/mini honeymoon.
it to be honest was difficult to pick where to go because we are only going for 4 nights there’s no point taking a long trip(due to holiday availability at my work). I wanted to go to Italy originally, but he did not, he has been to Italy for work and he doesn’t like Italy. Then we thought about Monte Carlo, but that is not for beach, he wanted beach so we are going to Greece, we’ve been to place plenty of times so we made sure we were going to a place we’ve not been to before. Regarding which we had to compromise aswell, because I said I’m not sure if I even want to go into the sea, so I didn’t want to take a hotel next to a beach, but rather with good views, and he wanted to have the sea with it. So he ended up taking a hotel with a private beach and he booked a room with a private pool 😂 Because I said I don’t know if I will want to go into the sea😂 will see how it goes, I’ll be 26 weeks when we go. I’ll be looking like a land whale on the beach and I hope the PETA doesn’t try to push me back into the sea. 🐋

I feel SO fat all of a sudden. I'm 18 weeks today and suddenly my face is super round and I have a double chin and a serious thigh rub almost overnight 😭 a friend of mine gained 80lbs (!) and she was totally ok with it, she just accepted it's pregnancy...but I'm really struggling with this weight gain. How big am I going to get??

Xur · 01/04/2024 07:26

@TTCSoManyQuestions88 I feel exactly the same, yesterday I was pressure washing the pathway in the garden and I wanted to see the difference in colour from a third view so I opened the CCTV and saw me cleaning it and though JEEEESUS..I look like a middle aged woman!!!
I can see my tighs have grown and my hands are getting chubby. My partner seems to be happy about it because he says it’s “supposed to be like that when I’m pregnant”, but I can’t help to dislike my appearance. He calls my boobs “melons” now 🥲

Lillers · 01/04/2024 08:34

Anniversary today, so as I am a crap wife at the moment and have let dh look after me 100% of the time, I’m currently making him breakfast. Just as well he’s asleep at the minute so isn’t having to listen to me retching every time I smell the cooking oil 😂. It’s a new recipe I haven’t made before and I forgot how much I’ve always loved cooking - going to have to find some recipes I can have a go at without getting sick from the smells.

Going away in 3 weeks time, so will be 17 weeks. Last time we went away at the exact same time, although no toddler then so went away for the full 2 weeks. Bit nervous as we have a 10 hour flight, we booked it before DS became a hurricane!!

longingtobe23 · 01/04/2024 11:46

@SC126 i love northumberland
and we did tintagel last week on our trip when I was full of cold and morning sickness I struggled at 15 weeks so well done you😂

I was hoping to get away again - but also struggling with 15 month old Lab that only likes to go to my parents, not sure they’ll be volunteering a whole week ekkk! But I’ll try!
also I can only go out of term time
Very much looking forward to taking some non term cheaper holidays next year on MAT leave!

SC126 · 01/04/2024 11:59

@longingtobe23 yes we have to go out of term time too due to my son being in school so costs us a fortune. I have an elderly english bulldog that’s a big pain in the butt! She’s not good with other dogs and all my family have dogs so no one to leave her with. And she can’t walk far so we have to find accommodation that is happy for us to leave her behind for short periods so we can explore.

Babyplease23 · 01/04/2024 12:53

Has anyone ordered any "Bulky" baby items yet? I'm 15 weeks and was reluctant to order anything big until after the 20 week scan. However I know which car seat I want, and it's currently in the Easter sale which would save me £70. I feel a bit nervous ordering something this soon, but a £70 saving could be used elsewhere!

SC126 · 01/04/2024 14:00

@Babyplease23 some car seats can be purchased as a travel system with a pram purchase and most big suppliers will adjust travel system car seats to suit what you want when you go in store. So I would bare this in mind as it could save you money when you buy as a full set.

Lillers · 01/04/2024 14:45

@longingtobe23 I’ve already booked a cheap week away next year - just in the UK but I’m determined to make the most of non-school holiday breaks while I’m on mat leave! It was weird booking for 2 adults and a baby when the baby isn’t here yet - I had to check a box that said “name and DOB and not yet known” 😂

longingtobe23 · 01/04/2024 15:13

@Babyplease23 I mean we've had to order an office pod for the garden today and plan on building in May/June!
My husband is mostly work from home and we decided that isn't feasible with a newborn in the house... So that's one hell of a bulky item needed due to the baby but not yet FOR the baby 😂
It was also on offer though so saved us a fair bit as not the cheapest.

I also wanted to order a newborn tripp trap set as they also have a free seat offer at the moment I wonder if they'll do the same during summer! I have no where to store it 🥴

longingtobe23 · 01/04/2024 15:14

@Lillers I'll be taking my eldest out of school for sure. Oopsie naughty teacher. Never done it before but holiday prices as a family of 4 I'll be making the most! Can't believe we will be a family of four finally 😧 not sinking in!

LSW82 · 01/04/2024 15:48

@longingtobe23 think we are going to eventually need an office pod too! There’s always at least one of us wfh every day & we currently use the spare rooms as an office but will become one of the kids bedrooms eventually! Where did you get your pod from? Is it self assembly or come ready made? Our neighbour got one dropped in their garden the other day by crane , was an interesting watch 🤣

longingtobe23 · 01/04/2024 16:11

@LSW82
Its a self assembly ekk I assume that worked out cheaper as we needed it big as i will be squishing the peloton in it as well!

I'll find out the name for you!

LSW82 · 01/04/2024 16:43

@longingtobe23 that’s where our Peleton will be going too 🤣

longingtobe23 · 01/04/2024 17:01

@LSW82 powershed log cabin! 12x8
Happy office hunting haha! These babies 😅

tryingfortwo2 · 01/04/2024 20:36

@longingtobe23 @LSW82 we’re in team office pod too. Haven’t even looked yet as I can’t face the cost.. burying my head in the sand feels like the mature approach! 😂

WinsandSam · 01/04/2024 20:52

I know a long way off but thinking about maternity leave for those who work. When will you be taking it from?

I'll also have 5 weeks leave to take beforehand...
I'm due on 23rd September and hoping with leave and starting mat leave at 38 weeks I can finish 31st August.
Im nhs employed

Any advise welcomed 🫶🏼

SC126 · 01/04/2024 21:09

@WinsandSam I’m due 9th sept and I have lots of annual leave to use before. I’m planning end of July right as my son finishes school for summer. I can spend the summer with him then and save money on holiday clubs (No rest for the wicked). My actual mat leave will begin mid August sometime. I work in NHS though and they won’t let me work until due date anyway. I also get a very good mat leave package due to being NHS and planning a year and a bit off.

something to consider is that if you go into labour slightly earlier your mat leave will automatically commence and you will lose that annual leave.

FuppinNora · 01/04/2024 21:10

I've bought the buggy oops. It was 2nd hand though, I've been looking at the cosatto ones and one popped up on marketplace in great condition. Currently storing at someone else's house.
I'm also thinking of a shed/pod type thing. I have to buy a car first as my one is starting to give me trouble!

Winsandsam do you have to take the 5 weeks before you go or can you carry over? Might be better the other end if you can keep going or get signed off if unwell.
