I also have to do the glucose test.. not sure why either. Can't wait 😝

WolfMother326 · 23/03/2024 23:11

Thanks @Xur and @Lillers, I really appreciate the validation. It's just a little scary!

FuppinNora · 23/03/2024 23:49

I have to have a glucose test as my Dad and sibling have type 2 diabetes. I would have got away with it otherwise.

Do you have a high bmi? I literally can’t think of another reason as to why I’d had to do it. I haven’t had it in either of my previous pregnancy’s, but I’m a #ChonkyGal now 🤪🥳

I hope it goes ok! Is this your first pregnancy? ❤️

HRP1990 · 24/03/2024 06:07

Girls how do you know you’ve got to have a glucose test? That probably sounds so silly, but I got a letter through the post yesterday telling me I’ve got an appointment with the “Midwife Episode Team” when I’ll be 28 weeks.. no explanation as to why or what it’s for, but it’s at the hospital? Usually I see my midwife at my Gp surgery, so perhaps it’s a glucose test?

WinsandSam · 24/03/2024 07:32

@Honeyandsunshine1 no I'm in the normal range, think 24 🤷🏻‍♀️it might be due to my thyroid or autoimmune condition?! Bit scared as heard it's not pleasant

WinsandSam · 24/03/2024 07:34

@HRP1990 I was told by the consultant after my 12 week scan. I've then had more scan appointments and consultant appointments come through the post with no explanation as to what they are

Hi, 2nd! I had to have glucose test last time too nearer the end of pregnancy, I think there was protein in my urine or something. (No diabetes in family then).

This time the midwife did my BMI and that was fine. She said if your BMI is over 30 you automatically get it. Later on she asked my family history and when I mentioned Dad having diabetes and said I have to have it.

If they haven't told you it is a GT then unlikely to be as you have to fast. I also got a letter at that appointment explaining I'd be there for 3 hours, first they take bloods, drink the glucose drink wait an hour and then get bloods again. What a faff, work are going to love me!! I have a scan the following week.

YellowZ · 24/03/2024 09:17

Hey everyone!

I think the glucose test can be age related. I had one when I had my son (I was 36, i think anyone over 35 was offered one). It might vary by county as it hasn't been mentioned this time round - I live in a different town now.

I didn't find the test bad. Just boring sitting about and the stuff they give you to drink is a bit intense.

17wks today 🤯 had my 16wk appointment on Friday, the baby was wriggling so much that my midwife was having to chase them around with the doppler to listen to their heart. Cute.

I've also been having a few movements. V far between at the moment, so it was nice to know they're wriggling away in there!

Emmaev · 24/03/2024 09:59

@YellowZ I’m glad you mentioned that movements are very spaced out. I felt baby move about 5 times on Friday and yesterday I didn’t feel anything. Baby must have been in a different position on Friday. I know my mw said don’t worry at this stage if you go a couple of days without feeling anything it’s normal, but I can’t help but worry.

Mw also was waving the Doppler all round my belly as baby was swirling and moving around the whole time. So I know that they’re pretty active.

YellowZ · 24/03/2024 10:07

@Emmaev I worried about it a lot with my first pregnancy too, but in a few weeks or so you'll feel them bouncing around all the time. One thing I found with my son, if I hadn't felt him for a while, was that if I lay on my side, and then quickly flipped over to lie on my other side, I'd feel him kick shortly afterwards. That might have been more around 20wks or so though.

Honeyandsunshine1 · 24/03/2024 10:10

@WinsandSam Oh, yeah it must be because your BMI isn’t high like mine! When is yours booked for? Try not to panic, think of it as you’d rather know you had it than not know. We’ll just have to close our eyes and pretend it’s a flat Lucozade 🤔😂

@FuppinNora Yeah I got told it’ll be a long appointment too. I’ve got to do the same; fast from midnight, bloods at 9, delicious* drink, then bloods again hours later. My midwife booked my next appt with her for the same day though so that it’s not a totally long stint at hospital just for 1 thing. So I’m seeing her at 10:30 that same day. Last time, I can’t even remember what I did? I think I just had to fast, then eat something from a list? I genuinely can’t even remember but it definitely wasn’t this level 😂

@YellowZ I’m 17 weeks today, too! We must be due date buddies 😍

WinsandSam · 24/03/2024 10:11

@Honeyandsunshine1 they haven't given me a date yet. All I have is 2 scans and a consultant appointment. How many weeks are you when you have yours?

Emmaev · 24/03/2024 10:12

@YellowZ i use to do that with my daughter too, but i was pregnant with her 8 years ago so it’s really hard to remember anything with my pregnancy with her 😅

Honeyandsunshine1 · 24/03/2024 10:12

I must be the only one who didn’t get to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week appointment 😂

She did try, only because I asked, but she said they don’t usually at 16 week appts. Which can’t be true as my best friend is with the same hospital due a week before, and they did hers. But she’s very slim so I think it’s just code for “we don’t don’t usually do it for thiccc chunky mamas at the 16 week appt” 😂

I’ll be 24 for mine! As it’s the same day I have my 24 week midwife appointment 🥺

Cinai · 24/03/2024 10:33

Doesn’t look like my NHS maternity care is intending to test me for gestational diabetes although I’m over 40 and have another risk factor. But nothing surprises me anymore with this NHS trust.
I had my first private consultant appointment last week. They recommended to start low dose aspirin because I’m of moderate risk of preeclampsia - is anyone else on low dose aspirin? They also confirmed that I definitely need the gestational diabetes test so I need to see where I can arrange this privately.

Emmaev · 24/03/2024 10:44

@Honeyandsunshine1 I was actually quite surprised to hear the heartbeat as my friend who’s due a day after me had her 16 week a day before and was told they don’t do the Doppler on a 16 week scan anymore. So was shocked when my mw pulled the Doppler out. She said that some mw don’t do it, so it may even be more individual mw, as my friend is only the town over from me

longingtobe23 · 24/03/2024 11:32

Did anyone get their screening results on badger?
I had my scan and screening on 15th and nothing yet and we’re away for a week 🤦🏼‍♀️ I just want to know now. She did say no news is good news but I’m still so annoyed

i also have been quiet because on top of major sickness and on top of that… flu cough swollen throat I feel horrific
i feel worse than when I had covid.
so currrntly in the holiday rental and rest of the family have gone out ☹️ can’t keep food in, can’t shower without coughing then being sick URGH I need this to end 😂 anyone got any miraculous tips!?!

rupertbear91 · 24/03/2024 11:43

@longingtobe23 that sounds horrendous I had similar a few weeks back and the coughing was making my sickness even worse. I stuck my head over a bowl of steam to calm everything down several times a day it seemed to help

FuppinNora · 24/03/2024 12:28

@Cinai yes I am on aspirin to help oxygen through to my placenta as my last baby was small. I think there is a good few on here on aspirin too as I didn't panic when midwife said it to me as had read on here.
You might be able to get the GT through the NHS if you have a recommendation letter?

SC126 · 24/03/2024 12:30

After all the girl guesses online turns out I’m joining the boy crew. My DS is so happy to be getting a little brother.

My midwife said that NICE guidelines mean no midwives should be checking the heartbeat at 16 weeks any more. It’s because there is no pathway for if they don’t hear the heartbeat (as in it doesn’t mean you get a hospital scan), so lots of women were leaving the appointment being very anxious if the heartbeat couldn’t be found.

I looked up some threads on here and sure enough, a few midwives were posting quite adamantly that midwives who do check are going against the guidelines and apparently it’s causing a bit of an issue in the profession because they’re not all following their professional guidelines.

Lillers · 24/03/2024 13:16

I got some George maternity clothes - love the tops, really comfy, but the waistband on the leggings is SO tight. The bit on the bump is fine, but the waistband above it is literally cutting into my stomach/diaphragm (I don’t know what’s where in my insides anymore). I’m normally a size 12 and got the medium, which is meant to be 12-14, and everywhere else they fit perfectly.

Does anyone know any leggings that don’t cut you in half above the bump??
