Hello ladies.

Sorry I have been reading and not replying much.

Those who have been feeling movements can you discribe them? I can't remeber what first movements are like but last night I was getting odd feelings. More how I would discribe tightenings/later movements when you can literally feel baby pushing against things.

Has anyone had braxton hicks? This is the second episode of what I can only presume is that but last night's felt more frequent and went on longer.

Xxx

Emmaev · 23/03/2024 09:18

@Bakerbean how amazing! Hope baby behaves and you get a clear look at what you’re having!

@MrsM89 i’m 16+5 today and have been feeling baby for a couple of days. To me it feels like water ripples right at the bottom of my belly. However with DD it felt to me like bubbles and I felt her at a similar time. It’s a very gentle movement and a if you didn’t know you’d probably miss it feeling.

Xur · 23/03/2024 10:33

@Demi55 mine was 1,1 and I am 33, and they gave me 1000.

@MrsM89 to be honest, I got no idea what I’m experiencing because this is my first pregnancy. I’ve been having a feeling occasionally like there’s I don’t know….a worm wiggling inside or like an air bubble passing. I’ve had that occasionally several days now and I am just 16 weeks. I wouldn’t know what Braxton hicks feel like either.
I don’t know if those are movements or what. I feel a bit clueless. It might be just 💨

Xur · 23/03/2024 10:39

I think also the growing pains for people are rather varied. I’ve noticed for me it’s been a particular sensation, that is my growing pain as I’ve consistently had it every few days since the beginning of pregnancy, I would describe it as, let’s say if someone took a knitting needle or a chopstick and put it right up my cooo and just lightly pushed it against the top, it’s a light feeling of pressure and that somethings going on, accompanied by like a pinch (not a sharp one, but noticeable) it’s always straight inside upwards. Since it’s so specific and I’ve heard other people describe different sensations that makes me think there’s no way to figure out what is a feeling of movement, because it’s probably different from person to person.

rupertbear91 · 23/03/2024 11:57

Does anyone understand the papp-a results. Mine just came back and all says low risk but Papp-a says 4958mu/l and mom of 2.03 from my Google search that seems really high?

Xur · 23/03/2024 13:43

@rupertbear91 you have twins don’t you? That would be the reason why it’s higher. The hormone shows how good the placenta is working, if your placenta is very busy. Feeding two babies then that would explain it. I think most hormones are higher with twins aren’t they. Hence often the onset of heavy symptoms and higher HCG concentration early on. As far as I understood.

Hello all, can I get an opinion?
On Friday my toddler's nursery sent an email at the end of the day saying there had been a case of slapped cheek syndrome.
I'd never heard of it and looked it up, and found that it's dangerous in pregnancy from 9-20 weeks. If you've not been exposed as a child yourself and get it as an adult, it can cause miscarriage in 5% of cases.
My son may have already been exposed, but he may not have. He's only meant to go Monday and Tuesday this week, then we have the Easter break. I'm thinking about taking two days as sick days or asking to work from home to keep him out rather than risk sending him. I'm a uni lecturer so it would mean inconveniencing my students/they'd have to participate online or reschedule the sessions.
Do you think that's an overreaction? I had a miscarriage in my last pregnancy and would be devastated if anything happened now. But also the chance does seem pretty slim.

hol92 · 23/03/2024 14:06

Has everyone got the letter about having a glucose test? Didn't realise it's for 3 hours at the hospital 🙈 I definitely didn't have to have it with my first so just wasn't sure if there was a reason why x

rupertbear91 · 23/03/2024 14:13

@Xur I had twins but we lost one at 7 weeks and it was completely miscarried by 9 weeks so not sure if that could still be effecting it but there's definitely only one baby in there now!

Lillers · 23/03/2024 14:43

@WolfMother326 It’s a tricky one but I feel like it’s a time when you would be right to be cautious - I know the risk is low, but look at is as being comparable to being careful what you eat. The risks are low but we still do it just in case. Yes there would be inconvenience to your students etc, but I don’t think you’ll ever regret being careful, while if the worst were to happen that decision could play on your mind for a long time.

Had a private scan today at 16w1d… and it’s a girl! Took almost half an hour of the woman prodding at my stomach and making me go pee twice to get the baby to move as she was sitting with the cord between her legs so we couldn’t get a clear view straightaway 🤣 we had a gut feeling it was a girl and everyone in our family that knew about the pregnancy was convinced as well 💕 she has very long legs already that are measuring ahead - she’ll get that from her dad who is over 6”4!

Congratulations @RachSmile ! 🎀🌷💟

@rupertbear91 I found this study, I don’t know if it’s worth looking into, but these guys found that sometimes high Papp-a shows the placenta is overactive and growing where it shouldn’t be?
https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/9955-9961.pdf

@WolfMother326 I would def take 2 days off, it’s not that you have to sit home for 3 months. Taking 2 days off out of precaution is sensible in my opinion.

rupertbear91 · 23/03/2024 16:02

Thanks @Xur from that it looks like something to note for bleeding at delivery but hopefully not harfmful to baby. They checked the placenta at my scan and said all looks good and it's attached at the back so who knows. I have my consultant appointment in 2 weeks so will bring it up then

UnicornRainbow2 · 23/03/2024 16:38

Hi Everyone! I have just read all the messages- only took me a couple of days 😂 Congrats to all of you on your pregnancies!

I had my scan on Friday and am measuring 13+3 so due on 24th September. I haven’t got my risk results yet for the combined test but the NT was 1.1 but my Papp a results seem really really high!! Please find attached. I can’t seem to find anything on Google because it seems my measurements aren’t in MoM but in M/ul instead which I have no idea about!!

I was told at my 16 week appointment that it was Al Ong appointment too, I have to come in at 9am having fasted since midnight, have my bloods done at 9, drink the sugary drink then bloods again later. She managed to book my next midwife appointment in amongst that so at least 2 birds 1 stone I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

She referred to it as the “full glucose test” and said that she knew I hadn’t done anything like this with my second baby (2021) but that procedures at that hospital have changed since then x

MrsM89 · 23/03/2024 16:52

@hol92 ive got to have the gtt test too this time and didn't with my other 2. 3 hours of sitting around waiting really time to read or knit I think. Xx

rupertbear91 · 23/03/2024 16:55

@UnicornRainbow2 mine are about 4000mu/l which I thought was high compared to what seems normal... I also can't find anything about high results other than the link xur posted just below for me.

rupertbear91 · 23/03/2024 16:56

Sorry nearly 5000 not 4000 🤦🏽‍♀️

Xur · 23/03/2024 18:04

I found an another article that indicates people with coronary heart issue inclinations tend to have higher Papp-a

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21962420/

https://onlinejcf.com/article/S1071-9164(09)00877-X/abstract

the only thing I don’t understand from these articles is does this mainly affect the mother or does it affect the child aswell. But I’m not a doctor and to be honest so might be reading it wrong the only thing I can offer tbh is my googling skill.

Serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein a in patients with heart failure - PubMed

Serum PAPP-A levels were related to the severity of HF and associated with a high risk for adverse cardiac events in HF patients, suggesting that PAPP-A might be involved in the pathogenesis of HF.

Lillers · 23/03/2024 18:21

I stopped taking cyclizine a couple of days ago, and am trying to work out if I need to get any more.

I’m definitely feeling a lot more queasy than I was when I was taking it, but I don’t think it’s as bad as it was before I started taking it. I’ve thought I was going to be sick a few times (but then I still threw up a few times while I was on it - I just didn’t feel as bad the rest of the time).

I don’t want to take more medication than I need to, but equally don’t want to feel rubbish now I know there’s a way to feel better.

@rupertbear91 if there was anything concerning they definitely would have flagged it up and spoke to you about it!

Xur · 23/03/2024 19:28

I’m yapping today but pregnancy is hella weird. I was craving a burger, I ordered a burger, I got it…aaaaand I don’t like the taste.
same thing happened few weeks ago with a burger!! But that was a different burger from a different place. Am I going nuts or what is going on with this? Is this going to be a thing now? Why is it just burgers?

SantasRubiksCube · 23/03/2024 19:31

Another one here who will have to have the horrible glucose test, I know it's best to check it just in case but I had to have it done in all 3 of my previous pregnancies but have never had gestational diabetes, it really does feel like your there forever just waiting for it to be over.

SC126 · 23/03/2024 20:31

@Xur omg I can relate to this so much. I have so many food aversions and zero cravings so far. I’m big on drinking tea usually and I can’t even look at one since being Preggo. And after drinking orange juice and spewing that’s off menu too. Plus a ton of other things. It’s tragic.

UnicornRainbow2 · 23/03/2024 20:42

@rupertbear91 So mine is nearly double yours? 😩😬😬 But guess @BeautyAndTheBump1 is right, they would have mentioned it to us surely? I will ask at my next appointment in 3 weeks!

I also had to do the glucose test last week but only the 1 hour test. Think it’s normal procedure here (I am in Spain)
