I work in a nursery and my daughter already attends with me so I am assuming this one will join, I am not sure how the new funded hours are going to work in reality so not holding my breath! That being said I am practically counting down until September as that’s why my daughter will start getting her 2 year inclusion funding 🥳 she only missed next term by 8 days 😂

Lillers · 18/03/2024 18:01

First day back at work today - had a meeting with HR who have referred me for an occupational health assessment.

I felt horrendous first thing this morning and really regretted going in, but after a couple of hours I was feeling loads better and I’m really pleased I stuck it out. I don’t know why I was worrying about what to say to the students because not one of them asked why I hadn’t been in for 2 weeks 😂

@MudandMoet my DS is 5 and will be 6 in September and so he started school this year. Yes you pay an extra year childcare but I felt that he was way more ready for school this year than he was last year if he had to go then. He doesn't do well with change and so the first week or so at school was tough but now he's thriving and doing amazing with his reading and writing etc. I'll be having an elective this time and my husband was like “make sure it's still in september” 🤣

They’re so funny, aren’t they? I was off for two days and one of my students asked if it was my birthday and that’s why I’d not been in. As if! 😆

Glad you felt better as the day went on. I find that’s often the way - you get so busy that you forget to feel poorly!

Lillers · 18/03/2024 18:08

@BadLobster Exactly, the busier you are the harder it is to feel ill! It’s now on my risk assessment that I have to lie down with my feet elevated for 10 minutes in the middle of each day - I laughed out loud when the HR lady said that because I barely have time to remember to sit down, let alone lie down with my legs in the air! 😂

16 weeks today 😃 I'm getting a lot of discomfort in my ribs, half way through the day I need to sort of stretch backwards and being at my desk feels soooo uncomfortable. And getting proper backache now too!

SantasRubiksCube · 18/03/2024 19:06

@ForeverHopeful67 yes that's exactly it, like I've got a stomach bug without d+v (at least not so far 🤞) my youngest has been complaining about tummy ache and been going to the toilet abit more often and has gone to bed early without having any dinner as she just wanted to sleep so it's not looking good. I've been sitting with a hot water bottle on my back to try and ease the period type cramps but I still feel so uncomfortable 😣

ForeverHopeful67 · 18/03/2024 19:32

Sorry all just clocked back on and seen all the responses r.e childcare 🤣! Haha

Think @SC126 covered it off well though ☺️ obviously depending on your circumstance I.e if you and your partner collectively earn over £100k you won't be eligible but most people "should" get 30 free hours from next September and 15 from April! Just means nursery wait times will be even worse than they are now so thought it's worth mentioning!

Also I think I read some comments below about the heartbeat not being listened to in 16 week appointments anymore - I had mine today and the midwife listened to baby ☺️ was lovely to hear the strong heartbeat and midwife commented on how active baby was - we could here it kicking the Doppler 🤣 I think over the last few days I've been starting to feel movements too 🥰

tryingfortwo2 · 18/03/2024 20:10

@Martibum we only have the baby one too, but you’ve got me looking at the toddler one. Maybe I’ll just upgrade her to the big bath 😂

@LSW82 @Cat2022 I feel your pain, I’m in Scotland too. We only tried for number 2 once the timeline matched up so that number 1 will be just turned 3 (for her funded hours) before this one needs to start nursery, because it would’ve really stretched us to pay double. She’ll be 2 in June, so her funded hours will start Aug 2025, and I’ll likely be going back to work in the Sept and this one will start nursery. Age maths, a sad way to have to plan your family!

I’m growing so impatient with not being able to feel this baby, keep lying in bed at night and in the morning concentrating so hard 😂 I felt my first at 18 weeks, and I’ll be 17 weeks tomorrow so hoped I’d feel more by now.

tryingfortwo2 · 18/03/2024 20:28

Also meant to say, I have the CRZ YOGA Butterluxe leggings that were mentioned here a while ago, said to be lulu dupes, and they are incredible! I got the maternity ones and went on their site to order direct as they don’t do the longer (28”) on Amazon, and I’m tall, shipping was still free. They are glorrrrrrious! I’ll be living in them for the foreseeable.

They’re not matte cotton though, like a day legging, they lean more towards the fabric of a workout legging but not quite as thick as gym leggings would be.

This is really helpful!! Thank you! Do they go see through at all? I like the work out legging style more than cotton, so these could be perfect if they’re not too thin to show my arse to everyone when I bend over 😂

Just popping on to say hello. I've been lurking in the background as I've not had much going on. Lovely to see all the scan pics recently.

Finally got the NHS screening results back after a looooong 2 week wait and came out as <1 in 5000 for all 3 conditions which I'm relieved about.

Just on the tax free childcare - the £100k income limit is per person. So you can both earn £100k and get it. However if one of you earns £30k and the other £100,001 then you won't be eligible. Same for child benefit (current threshold is £50k per person, but going up to £60k in April).

I found Martin Lewis explanation a lot clearer than gov.uk! https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/tax-free-childcare

I'll be talking to DS nursery tomorrow about a place for new baby come September. They've already mentioned that places are tight because of the new funded hours coming in. Childcare is an absolute minefield!

roses110 · 18/03/2024 22:08

Hello,

I've also been following in the background and its been lovely seeing everyone's updates! I was waiting to have my dating scan before saying hello, but my scan this morning got cancelled due to staff sickness :(

I'm already 13+2 and the receptionist said there is a good chance they won't be able to fit me in now until after 14 weeks so will miss out on all the screening.

Not really sure what to do now.

I wanted to wait till after the scan to tell work, but think I will just tell work tomorrow anyway so if by some miracle they do have a free appt slot this week hopefully work will understand and let me go (doesn't help that I have a really full on week at work!)

Has anyone else been in this situation where they don't have their scan till after 14 weeks?

Hey, so sorry to hear that! That must have been so disheartening. It’s anxious enough in the lead up, let alone having it cancelled last minute.

can you push for them to offer you a NIPT blood test free of charge, seeing as you’re potentially going to miss the window for the trisomy screening? It seems fair, seeing as the cancellation wasn’t your fault. I guess it’s worth an ask to see what they’d do? 🩷

tryingfortwo2 · 18/03/2024 22:35

@roses110 i have no experience sorry, but just wanted to offer some sympathy because that’s so ridiculous. There’s got to be something they can do, surely!

@cd24x that’s so helpful, thank you. I was so sure it was a combined £100k, so that’s really interesting to read.

@Honeyandsunshine1 from what I could see in the mirror, they definitely passed the squat test 😂 they’re so smooth, I can see why they’re called butterluxe - I kept rubbing my legs when I had them on haha. I’m at 10/12 (def currently more 12 after all my beige) and 5ft 10 so I got size medium in the longer length (28” versus the 25” on Amazon) because I like a full length legging, the fit is perfect and if anything they’re a tiny bit too long x

tierneytarny · 19/03/2024 06:14

It’s scan day! I’m a mixture of excited enough to scream but also petrified of something not being right. 🙈 It’s been a slog getting this far with only an early scan (which we then repeated due to dating issues). I’ve ‘prepared’ for the worst - but have I really (no). Absolute zero symptoms of anything being wrong so it is just ridiculous fear.

Re: the wage limits for free hours/ tax free childcare - definitely £100K each as I reconfirmed for our other children yesterday. We are lucky enough to get the 15 hours for our youngest from the date it starts (she turned 2 earlier this year).

Lillers · 19/03/2024 06:43

@tierneytarny Good luck! I hope everything goes well! Mine is tomorrow afternoon - literally can’t wait!

The other person in my team who is also pregnant has her 20 week scan tomorrow afternoon in the same place as my dating scan - I don’t know why but I got so excited at the idea of seeing someone I know in the waiting room 😂
