@Lillers ahh good luck on first day back!
not long until Easter break for us, I can’t sodding wait. Although we’ve booked a trip to Cornwall with in laws and I am worried I’ll be as shattered and unenthusiastic as I am now 😂 but they do keep active with lots of walking/hiking and I’ve told myself now I have no excuse all is good and I’m second trimester I need to keep active…

I have booked an early swim and food collection tomorrow to see if I can kick my arse into gear, I have been on the sofa chilling all day and feel guilty now!

Martibum · 17/03/2024 21:29

Myself and my daughter have been so unwell with flu like symptoms and a day of vomiting thrown in too! I had a scan on Wednesday, twins were kicking each other and I'm delighted I don't need to attend the pre term clinic. Otherwise I would've been in the hospital every week between that and my twin clinic!

On the bath front, snuggle all the way but you don't get long out it of it but so worth it. If you see one 2nd hand grab it!
Also....
Changing bags, get a backpack style, save your shoulders and back. More ideal for bigger outings.
I had a 2nd smaller one that was over shoulder that was tiny but amazing, doubled as a changing pad.
Get a cup holder for your pram.
I bought medium sized soft baskets from woodies and kept nappies, wipes and change of clothes in it for our bedroom and for downstairs. then I used them as toy storage when I was done with them. Handy if don't have room for a caddy.
Also, keep space for change of clothes downstairs, I still do this for my 3 year old. As nice as a nursey is, it's not practical to be running upstairs for changes.
Don't worry too much about outfits for the first 3 months. Invest in vests and sleepsuits!
Also, WHEN your baby shits up their back, don't pull the vest over their head. Pull down from the shoulders.
Speaking of poop, that stuff stains. Don't bother with fancy stain remover. Hand soap with do the exact same job.
Also, when washing the millions of baby clothes, especially vest.... don't peg them on the line. Use the snappers on the bottom to put them on the line. It saves time and space for more! (My mother nearly dropped when she seen me doing that because she never thought of it)
Buy yourself a good bra or at least get measured.

Think being sick has me reflecting on the early days 😂 hope some of this helps someone.
It can be overwhelming sometimes. I know I'm feeling it again trying to figure out what I need this time round.

TripleESept24 · 17/03/2024 21:39

Anyone else getting bad leg cramps/pains already? Mines in my calf's and ankles and so bad at night I have to stretch them out and rotate my ankles to lots of clunks!!! I am 14+2

Also when have previous mum's started feeling baby move? My first was 20 years ago I can't remember

tryingfortwo2 · 17/03/2024 22:33

@Martibum sorry to hear you and your daughter have been so unwell, hope you’re on the mend!

I laughed reading you say the shnuggle bath didn’t last you long - my DD is almost 21 months and still uses it every night 😂 she loves it! She much prefers it to when we fill the big bath. Now I feel like a bad mum, letting her squish herself into it each night. We’ve recently replaced the rubber plug and backing as they started to get worn, we’ve used it for so long haha. Will need to evict her when the new baby is here!

Martibum · 17/03/2024 23:51

@tryingfortwo2 I just had the newborn sized one, she used it try and stretch her legs out and stand up! So she left me with no choice but to get rid. But as I said, it was still worth it for the time I did get out of it. I was tempted to buy the toddler one though!

ForeverHopeful67 · 18/03/2024 00:36

@SantasRubiksCube seems like we've been having similar symptoms! I'll be 16 weeks Wednesday and also can't shake this feeling over the last few weeks days of discomfort in my tummy which mostly feels like I'm going to have a really upset tummy ( I did on Friday night sorry tmi) but I can't seem to shake the bloated/ cramps since, rubbish.

I've also been suffering with what seems to be an infected wisdom tooth - my teeth always play me up when I'm pregnant. So on antibiotics for this too.

All fun and games whilst trying to celebrate my 3 year olds birthday this weekend! Exhausted!!

Can't believe I have my 16 week appointment tomorrow it feels like it's came round so quickly!

My "tip" for the week - we're going to see a potential nursery for baby next week, if anyone will also be planning to put their babs in childcare then best start thinking about this now as the wait times are crazy, especially with the new childcare grants ( which means our babies will get 30 hours free childcare from 9 months by next September 🥳🥳)

HRP1990 · 18/03/2024 06:55

@ForeverHopeful67 aw I hope you had a great weekend celebrating! My daughters birthday is this weekend coming!

Omg I didn’t even think of this lol. My daughters nursery is at capacity now the 2yr funding has come in. I had heard something about 9 month olds and 30 hours but it sounded too good to be true haha

Decaffe · 18/03/2024 07:58

which means our babies will get 30 hours free childcare from 9 months by next September

Will that still be the case even though the Conservatives won’t be in power? Ditto the child benefit threshold changes? I guess I’m worried the new incoming government might go back on it?

(Sorry to get political on a Monday morning!)

longingtobe23 · 18/03/2024 08:33

I understood it to be 15hrs so I’ll take anything 😂 but then it could be the threshold / bandings etc …

fleur89 · 18/03/2024 11:59

I don't think everyone is eligible for the new childcare policy. Depends on income thresholds. I looked into it as my daughter just turned two so we could have been eligible based on the phased introduction of this. However we do not qualify, just like we get zero child benefit. I claim it for the NI contributions but have to pay every single penny back, which is annoying for tax returns. We live in London and don't know anyone who qualifies tbh.

fleur89 · 18/03/2024 12:01

I think everyone gets 15 hours when they turn 3 but would need to double check

fleur89 · 18/03/2024 12:02

& yes I signed my daughter up at 5 days old as it's extremely competitive where we live

SC126 · 18/03/2024 12:31

From what I have read, the free hours are available to all working parents that receive at least min wage each month. We received the 30 hrs for my eldest when he was 3 years old. It's changing so that children aged 9month + can receive 15 hours and then from September 2025 this is increased to 30 free hours for 9 months + children. The funding is always given the term after the child becomes of age. And the hours are given over term time only. You can decide to stretch the hours over the 52 weeks of the year and then you would get less hours per week. This is under the current government and could change if government changes.

longingtobe23 · 18/03/2024 12:59

@fleur89 we get no child benefit either so I don’t bank on the free hours and I only just found out I should still claim then “opt out” of the payments but still cash in on the NI contributions I had no idea which made me feel so stupid - but from what Martin Lewis explained as long as I was at work paying contributions it makes no odds?
or should I be getting both? How frustrating 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

I’ll see if accountant knows anything as we meet them soon anyway but what a kick in the chops lol

fleur89 · 18/03/2024 13:03

www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-childcare-2-year-olds

Just found the link, unfortunately don't qualify. All very confusing!

fleur89 · 18/03/2024 13:04

@longingtobe23 let us know if your accountant has any insights 💗 I find tax an absolute minefield!

longingtobe23 · 18/03/2024 13:05

@fleur89 it is extremely confusing. It’s like you need a degree just to figure the GOV system out ..

it is helpful the rising thresholds and boundaries but maybe one day they’ll get rid altogether 😄

Found the link to check eligibility. Bad news over here 😥

LSW82 · 18/03/2024 13:09

My sons nursery was one of the first people I told about this baby as had to put it down on the waiting list - places are like gold dust 🤣
Unfortunately no free nursery hours until 3 for me as I’m in Scotland!!

longingtobe23 · 18/03/2024 13:23

Gosh either way I’ll start nursery hunting! The two childminders in our village have retired last year … it’ll be a fight for a space 😂

Cat2022 · 18/03/2024 15:17

@LSW82 me too! I’m going to have 6 months paying full double fees which I’m already dreading. I still need to speak to the nursery about places etc but giving it a couple months.

LSW82 · 18/03/2024 15:30

@Cat2022 i know, I kept thinking our government would announce similar to England but still waiting!! Depending on when we get a place I might avoid a full double payment, just! I’m just hoping we get a place as 2 separate drop offs / pick Ups is not ideal! I love our nursery & it’s 5 min walk away so very handy too!

RosiePH · 18/03/2024 16:23

Went for my 12 week scan but the baby kept curling up so no measurements could be recorded! They’ve booked me back in for next Tuesday, but I’ll be 13+6 so here’s hoping I won’t actually be further ahead or they won’t be able to do the NT scan.

How does being 14 weeks+ affect the Papp-a and placental hormone readings? That’s what I really want, as I had a NIPT already.

MudandMoet · 18/03/2024 17:15

While on the subject of childcare...am I right in thinking that, as the village school my child will attend (all being well) doesn't have a nursery, if baby is born September I'll have a full year extra to pay for childcare rather than if it's born August? I'm clueless with this stuff. Doesn't matter and it is what it is but thought I'd ask.

It's looking like we'll be having a part time (2 days if possible) nanny from very early on (work commitments) but I would like to put baby in a private nursery when it's a little older. Can I ask when others are using nursery/childminders from?

longingtobe23 · 18/03/2024 17:41

@MudandMoet correct I had this with my first born.. all his "friends" from nursery went up in September and he was born the 12th so we had to wait a whole extra year 😆

It is excellent for his academic advantage though haha and social and emotional. As he was due August 31st! And I felt that unfair to be the very very youngest in the year.
A few years later my niece was born a week early at 26th August! And she had the choice to hold her back. Her parents didn't and she's thriving! So also don't worry if these babies pop out a bit early. X
