Seems we got to the end of a thread. Not sure if a new one has been set up.

@Eiremogra No, you can request a c section without any medical reason, some people have a preference for them.

I have had two ventouse births so terrified at the thought of birth but also not keen the idea of a section so I will just roll the dice and cross my fingers that it is third time lucky I guess. My pelvic floor will already have suffered so much I feel like another go probably won't make that much difference really.

CluelessInLondon · 11/03/2024 13:19

How is everyone feeling going into a new week?

I had a bit of a meltdown last night, not really sure why but just felt really anxious and upset about the possibility of finding out at my next scan that something has gone wrong. I don't know if it's because the 3 week gap between scans just feels really long - I haven't got any reason to feel as though anything is wrong but when things start to spiral it makes it hard to keep a lid on the anxiety. I then woke up during the night feeling really sick and was awake for ages so couldn't get up this morning and have had to stay off work and rest!

Has anyone else had confirmation of their 20 week scan date yet? I got mine today and it feels kind of surreal to have a date for that when the dating scan hasn't happened yet!

mrssunshinexxx · 11/03/2024 13:49

@Eiremogra no medical criteria

@WeightoftheWorld I feel abit stressed about the decision tbh after 2 emc , 2 scary long labours and the horrible recoveries. I so want a 'smooth' vaginal delivery but obviously birth is so unpredictable and I just worry badly that I'll rip from front to back and be absolutely wrecked and wish I'd gone for an elc
If someone could promise me I won't tear badly I'd 1000% have vaginal.

LuxeBiscuit · 11/03/2024 14:16

@CluelessInLondon sorry to hear about your anxiety. How long until your 12 week scan?

I'm 8+5 (LMP) or 9+1 according to my clinic and my symptoms have massively reduced over the last 2 days so that was concerning. But I've read a lot about it being normal so trying not to worry.

Like you say, we have no reason to think anything is wrong so just have to think positive. I think the dating scan will be a big milestone to relieve anxiety.

Did you opt for a NIPT?

CaptinKitty · 11/03/2024 14:29

Just had our first early scan. All seemed ok and the heartbeat could be seen.

Based on my last period, I was expecting to be 7+2, but measurements had me at 6+1. They said that was normal at this stage due to tricky measurements and you can’t really know when you ovulated unless you are tracking.

So cautiously optimistic for now, but i do wish I was tracking ahead so that this stage would be over quicker!!

HotCrossBunnyInTheOven · 11/03/2024 16:42

I hope everyone is doing ok and the sickness isn't so bad for those of you who have really been suffering!

I just got back from an early scan, everything looks great, little bean in there with a lovely hb. Feel so relieved to have seen it, my anxiety was through the roof beforehand.

By lmp I'm 6+4 but measuring 7+2. It's all so changeable at this stage though. Can't wait for my next scan now!

Thanks @LuxeBiscuit - my 12, week scan is on the 23rd so less than two weeks to go but it really feels like the time is dragging! I haven't booked a private NIPT, but I'm having the combined screening with the dating scan and will go from there if any other testing is needed.

@CaptinKitty @HotCrossBunnyInTheOven Glad you have both had good scans with healthy heartbeats!

Jacky86 · 11/03/2024 18:18

My anxiety is through the roof. I have a private scan booked for this Friday and it just can’t come quick enough. My hospital doesn’t do the dating scan until around 14 weeks and that’s just too long to wait.

Must be something in the air- I also woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep as felt so anxious! I thought it might be because I had my nitp test today and it just felt like another thing to be worried about.

Hope your anxiety subsides soon!

ButterflySkies · 11/03/2024 18:50

How is everyone? Completely agree on the sleep situation and anxiety!

Anyone a bit further ahead - I'm 8 weeks today - please tell me the general feeling sick and like garbage has ended or the end is in coming into sight?! I have got a horrid chesty cold which no doubt is compounding things - and the fever this weekend hasnt helped my anxiety - but dear me i feel awful. Trying to remind myself it's likely only this month and things will get better but it's tough when you're in the trenches!

Sending love to anyone else feeling anxious/tired/like a big pile of poo that wants to hide under the duvet! Xx

lpylou · 11/03/2024 19:28

My local clinic only scans up to 10 weeks and I'm now 11 weeks so need to patiently wait until next Wednesday. I had a 6 week scan and all was well but my symptoms have evaporated. Maybe that's the placenta taking over? I've been quite stressed recently with a toddler, a job I was promoted into and my husband had a ski holiday, then dogs daycare closed all in one week. Then symptoms stopped but I'm sure it's ok. I'm due 1st Oct so must be the furthest along here :)

lpylou · 11/03/2024 19:32

Jacky86 · 11/03/2024 07:29

I had a horrendous labour, birth and recovery. Still traumatised ten years later. This was followed by two blissful c sections with very fast recovery. It’s definitely a personal thing.

I had a fear of tearing. Didn't care what happened, didn't want to tear. Ended up with baby partially back to back and not getting past 2cm, an epidural later and not being allowed in the birth centre I was in a pickle. I knew epidural meant a tear and then they started saying I needed an induction, 24 hours in!

I hadn't stopped being sick and hadn't slept so demanded theatre and they were adamant I wouldn't go.

Thankfully we went as DS came out more distressed than they realised.

C-section next time again. This time without the 24 hour pre-event theatrics. I recovered fine but the scar has been annoying, itchy and has keloids.

JLT24 · 11/03/2024 19:41

@ButterflySkiesI’m 8 weeks tomorrow and I feel very blurgh! Evenings are my worst time when I get nausea and legs cramps around dinner time then at night I’m up several times needing a wee! During the day I’m just exhausted and have been having a nap every day. Hope you feel better soon!

Fullofconfusion · 11/03/2024 20:07

I had my booking appointment last week and they date me a week further along (going from the first day of my last period) than I think I am. I’m fairly sure on a rough ovulation date that I’m 10+4 ish but they have me down as 11+6. Either way my 12 week scan is Friday so I’ll get a better idea of how far along I am then, exciting!! I haven’t had a scan yet

WickWood · 11/03/2024 20:22

@ButterflySkies I'm 10+5 and was suffering from horrible sickness and nausea, it has definitely got a lot better, so I hope it does for you too! I didn't think I would ever feel better in the moment, but I already do. I still feel sick at points, mostly if I haven't eaten, but its sooo much better than it was! The tiredness, on the other hand... X

Has anyone looked into hypnobirthing? Its my first birth, I'm absolutely terrified, so want to try anything that may be helpful x

WickWood · 11/03/2024 20:23

@HotCrossBunnyInTheOven Aww how lovely! X

Sara1988 · 11/03/2024 20:30

@WickWood I'm starting hypnobirthing at 12 weeks.

I've seen a hypnotherapist before for binge eating and at the beginning of pregnancy I had a session to help with morning sickness and it helped loads!

I'm aiming for mid-wife led with minimal intervention, and feel like it will help.

mrssunshinexxx · 11/03/2024 20:34

@WickWood I did Hypnobirthing through first pregnancy and part of labour but it didn't work for me in the actual labour and ended in emc ! I'm sure it works for many

ButterflySkies · 11/03/2024 20:42

@WickWood that is really reassuring thank you! So I didnt hypnobirth with my first, I couldnt get into it and was a bit head in the sand (in my mind it going to happen, it wasnt going to be fun and didnt want to engage with it before labour to not freak myself out). But this time - touch wood all goes ok - I am going to do a hypnobirthing course and pregnancy yoga. My birth was ok - quite fast actually at 8 hours from first contraction to birth but I didnt push in a great position so it took ages - but I do with hindsight wish id done hypnobirthing and pregnancy yoga. I do now think knowledge is power looking back and some second time mum friends who were the same changed tact second time and had joyous second births.

Other thing we've spoken about is hubby advocating better for me in labour, he was also a rabbit in the headlights and id have appreciated him asking the midwives a few things rather than me barking/swearing at them 😂 so that might be something to think about too - NCT for example didnt really cut it for birthing partner prep - but you do have ages.

@JLT24 oh poor you too! Im the same, feeling super grim after dins but desperately trying to drink a glass of water before bed as i know it'll help! Hoping it subsides for us both soon xxx

tryforbabynumber2 · 11/03/2024 20:42

I had a third degree tear with my first delivery so I'm very nervous of that happening again! Had to go to theatre after delivering to have it repaired x

Also I am sooo shocked by how much I'm showing! I don't think it's purely bloat as I cannot suck it in and it's so obvious to me. I'm only 7+2. Nervous it could be twins 😂 My mum has had two sets of fraternal twins. I only showed at about 18 weeks with my first (but I was a lot bigger then too) xx

WeightoftheWorld · 11/03/2024 20:50

@tryforbabynumber2 I've got such a bump too I actually don't see how I can possibly keep it hidden as long as I want! Ruled out wearing any fitted tops/dresses now to try and disguise it. I didn't even consider twins! I hope not eek. But this is my third pregnancy so I'm sure it's normal as my stomach muscles are probably just absolutely done in by now and relaxing earlier on!

Hypnobirthing is not for me but I know some others love it.

A midwife called me today, I scored 5 on the CO monitor at my booking appointment last week so they want me to go in and have it done again. I was reluctant to be honest because I don't smoke/don't live with anyone who does and have a CO monitor alarm at home. So if it's a normal reading, pointless appointment, and if it's still borderline high, there isn't anything I can do about it anyway, as it will be from air pollution. But she was quite pushy and I didn't want them to think Im trying to hide smoking or something so anyway going in tomorrow afternoon for it. Hopefully it will be a normal reading!

WickWood · 11/03/2024 20:50

Thanks all, I have been looking into hypnobirthing, my mum bought me a book and I've signed up to an online course I can dip in and out of when I want. Did anyone find anything else helpful?

@ButterflySkies Thank you, thats good to know. Will we be offered antenatal classes? I'm going to get my OH to read the hypnobirthing book if I find it helpful when I've read it. I'm hoping he can advocate for me, as I can be a bit of a people pleaser and don't like to cause a fuss, I'm sure that'll change during labour though!

@tryforbabynumber2 What an adorable bump! X

Stupid question, but if you tear, do you feel it or is too much going on that you don't know the source of the pain?

tryforbabynumber2 · 11/03/2024 20:52

@WeightoftheWorld Yeah it's probably the same with me to be honest just lax stomach muscles as I've had a full term pregnancy and also lost 12st 9lbs so I doubt my stomach muscles are up to much after massive weight gain, loss and previous pregnancy 😂 xxx

Oct24 · 11/03/2024 23:54

I tried Hypnobirhing. I was all for it and 100% sold on the idea. Ended up being a complete waste of time and money for me. I had to be induced. Was in labour for 6hrs before the baby's heart rate was all over the place and they called it. EMC. I was devastated it ended how it did. I still carry some mental blocks by how it all went down and don't speak much of my birth story. I feel robbed.

I'm booking in for an elective C section the day before my due date this time. If I go into labour before then I will give it my best shot but otherwise, I'm resigned to another C section but this time hopefully I'll be a lot calmer and can mentally prepared for it.

spudnik1 · 12/03/2024 06:46

@WickWood I did hypnobirthing last time, just a cd I did at home after work each day was very sceptical, but for me, it really helped ( 6 day labour) unfortunately it ended in emcs. But during labour, I found the breathing and visualisation kept me calm. To be fair, I don't think they would have let me carry on as long otherwise.
