@MudandMoet
I think Iโ€™m going to go private, but where Iโ€™ve not decided yet.
itโ€™s just that Iโ€™ve sort of lost faith in NHS a bitโ€ฆI read the BBC article some month ago as well as heard what some people had to say. I had some stupid experiences myself aswellโ€ฆ so I am not sure if I trust the national health systemโ€ฆanywhere, regardless of country, unless itโ€™s like South Korea or Japan, but I got no access to those (lol). People are so tired and donโ€™t give any monkeysโ€ฆeven in medical care. People who work in medical care see it the same as people who work at private sector and that scares me! I donโ€™t want to be left labouring in a hospital for 12 hours to end up with an emergency C section that gives me an infection or pain for the next 3 years whenever I stretch. :(. Iโ€™m also afraid of a botched epidural, I know someone who has back pain there years after the procedure.
I mean 4 months ago I had a scan for fibroids or polyps and the two does behind the screen didnโ€™t know what they were looking at. The doctor didnโ€™t know what she was looking at and had to ask for advice to a private doctor, cos no one had any idea. Is that normal? Definitely not. I pay hundreds of pounds a month for this ๐Ÿ˜‚ just to end up with a private specialist telling the NHS doctor what to do ๐Ÿ˜‚ The UK medical care is under harsh scrutiny Im affraid.

@MrsB2019x yikes that a big chungus baby! Donโ€™t they normally do a precooked cesarian for big babes like that?

WolfMother326 · 18/01/2024 20:49

Hello all, just marking my place on the new thread. I'm still in the US, its been a rough trip we all now have covid ๐Ÿ˜ญ
I'm 6+4 today which is the date I was when I had a scan last time and then sadly a loss. Trying to think positive. Getting a lot of queasines. Fingers crossed but will just have to wait and see.
Hope everyone is feeling well

MudandMoet · 18/01/2024 20:52

@MrsB2019x I've also thought about this (being awake for hours every night I find every single possible topic comes to mind) will you get an elective because of your previous birth or can you just elect one anyway? My husband will be back at work the next day as it'll be really busy (harvest) so I'm not sure how that would work if I had to have a CS ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

@longingtobe23 if possible wait until 6 +6 as by then they will see the heartbeat and just that week will make all the difference for a scan x

Congrats @GoldenEra21 sounds like you're pregnant to me! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

@Megan004 it seems crazy that the first scan is anything from 12 weeks, it's such a drag when we find out around 3 weeks ish and the anxiety in between that time is awful. I wouldn't blame you for booking an early scan

@ForeverHopeful67 wow that's incredible! I'm thinking of copying your birth plan...in bold and size 124 font ๐Ÿ˜‚

ForeverHopeful67 · 18/01/2024 21:01

@HRP1990 that's so helpful thank you so much! Do you mind me asking how long it took from when you self referred to receiving an email?

@MudandMoet haha that was basically mine and capitals!! I do feel like they are pretty pointless though as you just never know what's going to happen do you!

HRP1990 · 18/01/2024 21:06

@ForeverHopeful67 I self referred last Sunday night, so pretty quick response from them! Maybe itโ€™s worth checking your emails/junk? I canโ€™t remember how I was contacted with my first pregnancy but I donโ€™t think it was via email ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ itโ€™s definitely legit though lol.

MudandMoet · 18/01/2024 21:06

@Xur I understand what you're saying and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it and done some research on it myself, I'm just not sure I can justify it when my local hospital has good maternity service reviews and CQC rating. My friends have all used it with no issues - you watch now I've said that it'll be me they fail ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ @WolfMother326 sorry you've all come down with Covid! Fingers crossed it's passes quickly for you all.

kc92 · 18/01/2024 21:09

Jumping on the thread a little late but love reading what symptoms other mamas to be are having. ๐Ÿ’— Current 6 weeks with what will be my second baby - and it feels completely different this time around.

Finding that a little hard to relax into because we had a chemical pregnancy at 4+6 in November but I just keep telling myself we're either getting a girl or a calm baby this time if it's the opposite to our son. Or hopefully both. ๐Ÿ˜‚

MrsB2019x · 18/01/2024 21:24

@MudandMoet Yeah Iโ€™d be a candidate for elective anyway because of my previous birth, but a few months ago the guidance changed and anyone can ask for an elective now. You always used to have to have a medical need for it but now you can just choose. Recovery was tough and I fully needed a lot of support for the first few days so hopefully you can avoid a section if DH is back to work the next day!
Like @longingtobe23 said apparently recovery is easier for an elective as there isnโ€™t such urgency to get them out. Being internally battered from ventouse and forceps (and the hand of a forceful consultant ๐Ÿ˜ต) probably made it worse!

@WolfMother326 Hope youโ€™re feeling better soon!

@ForeverHopeful67 My trust use Badger Notes too, I self-referred on 28th Dec and I got my email with details to register and my booking appt on 12th January

ForeverHopeful67 · 18/01/2024 22:11

@MrsB2019x @HRP1990 ah thank you both! Maybe it varies depending on your locality etc!

When I initially called they did say to chase it up by the end of the week/ after a week if I haven't heard so I might give them a bell.

Going by my last period I'm 9 weeks Sunday so that doesn't give me a lot of time to get my booking in appointment and scan ๐Ÿคฃ

MudandMoet · 18/01/2024 22:14

@kc92 congratulations and welcome to the party! Xx

@MrsB2019x thanks for the info, I'd no idea you could choose. I'm worried now because of my split uterus and the severity of my tilt too that they'll suggest a CS. I guess if they do at least we'll know beforehand and have time to get help ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

emmatcc1 · 18/01/2024 22:19

@MrsB2019x My plan is to try without meds. Iโ€™m scared of the epidural giving me long term problems. But as this is my first and I donโ€™t know how much pain I can handle weโ€™ll see how it ends. And I definitely donโ€™t wanna give birth on my back, I think thatโ€™s very stupid.

MrsB2019x · 18/01/2024 22:22

@emmatcc1 I think the risk of long term problems after an epidural is quite low. I did have quite a few shock-like spasms in my back for a few weeks afterwards but they completely went away. Aside from that, having the epidural made me feel the best I had in years ๐Ÿ˜‚ I even took on/off naps during contractions!

@MudandMoet Yeah they might do, Iโ€™m not really sure how much a tilted uterus affects things. But if it is planned like you say you can put a support plan in place in good time!

siobhanmt247 · 18/01/2024 22:38

So much for not feeling pregnant. Was asleep by 9.30 as was knackered and rudely woken up choking on acid so my throat is now red raw :(

MrsM89 · 18/01/2024 22:48

So I had 2 amazingly different experiences so far. My first I laboured for 24hours. A week overdue, baby back to back. Pushed for so long but no progress. Got took to theatre for a ceserean but they decided to try forceps which worked but I tore so badly was 3rd in 3 directions. Had massive complications for months with stitches ripping and infections. I couldn't walk for months due to damage.

2nd baby was booked for a elective. On that morning I woke with contractions at 4.45am they said come in and you'll jump the queue for theatre. Anyway got to the triage bay and midwife said how long have you been in labour those contractions are coming thick and fast. She went to examine and my surgeon said are we prepping for theatre. Midwife actually laughed and said. I'm not getting out of triage to a delivery room even. She had no delivery pack. Someone grabbed some gas and air for me. But baby was born less than 20min after arriving at hospital in her waters. 2nd degree tear and the best experience ever.

This time I have no idea.

MrsB2019x · 18/01/2024 23:04

@MrsM89 Think you deserved your lovely second birth after the ordeal of the first! Itโ€™s amazing how different it can be even for the same woman

doitjustice95 · 19/01/2024 00:44

This is a really odd symptom I am having and maybe some of the mums here could comment if itโ€™s normal?

But Iโ€™ve noticed I get the worst cramps in the night once Iโ€™ve put on my pyjamas. They have an elastic band which is pretty loose but it seems like itโ€™s been causing the cramps? And I tend to pass more wind too at this time.

I think Iโ€™ve resolved the issue and now wear a night slip dress to take the pressure off of my belly. Just wanted to check if anyone has had the same symptom at all?

Xur · 19/01/2024 06:12

@doitjustice95
actually I have it aswell, I wore low waist tight jeans some days ago gave me the worst cramps and now Iโ€™m opting for looser jeans with high waist.
@MrsM89 3 years in 3 directions jeez you were opened like an Amazon delivery box ๐Ÿ˜ญ
@MrsB2019x I think itโ€™s only on paper that you can choose. My friend who gave birth asked for a C section at the hospital and they told her she doesnโ€™t decide over that. That was Gloucester hospital, then they left her to labour without help for 12 hours, they did a shift change a new doctor came saw her and told she immediately needs a a C section so they performed one on the bed where she was.

For me it is not acceptable to be left in reception to labour because they donโ€™t have space.

Cat2022 · 19/01/2024 08:23

For anyone worried about birth/ want to find out more Iโ€™d recommend doing a hypnobirthing course like Bump to baby chapter as it really helped me last time. I was 13 days overdue and had to decided about induction etc but felt able to make that decision with everything Iโ€™d learned on the course. Baby was born 6 hours after labour starting with only gas and air.

The reason I chose that one and not other popular courses is that it is a midwife who developed it and she actually goes through pain relief options, c sections etc and is based on science rather than just telling everyone they will breathe their babies out.

This looks like a really useful course - will definitely be doing this. Thank you for the recommendation!

i also recommend hypnobirthing course! I did mine through โ€œmidwifemarleyโ€ online, she has an insta account which is really useful.

I had a hugely traumatic experience with my first who was born not breathing, and the hospital broke my waters and left me without them for over 24 hours therefore we both had suspected sepsis. A very long induction that resulted in me crying many times, an epidural, a drip, a neonatal stay. Honestly, a nightmare.

with my second, I wanted to do ANYTHING possible to avoid that kind of experience again so I did a hypnobirthing course so I could understand โ€œwhat goes onโ€ more and I found it SO informative and empowering. It enabled me to understand what my body would be doing/trying to do and when which was really beneficial. Knowledge is power and al that.

I also stuck up positive birth affirmations around the house from about month 4. I read them every day as I went about my business and they subconsciously sunk in. My in-laws almost laughed at me for it but I genuinely believe it helped me and my mindset.

i also did 4 days a date from 36 weeks, lots of walking and the perineum massage with coconut oil. At 38 weeks my waters went naturally and I was able to have an unmedicated birth and essentially just โ€œbreathedโ€ him out with one paracetamol. Wouldโ€™ve loved to be in the pool but it took too long to fill it. I know a lot of that situation wouldโ€™ve been down to luck but I believe my mindset was massively improved by the birth affirmations and also what I learnt on the online course. Sounds proper cringe I know, I was just willing to through anything at it to not feel as scared going into labour again

Cancelled my scan due to covid :-(. Rebooked for next Friday. Xx

Xur · 19/01/2024 09:53

@MrsM89
oh noooo! Long wait ๐Ÿ˜ญ
I got my next scan the upcoming Monday and Iโ€™m getting nervous around that, just like I had before the first scan.

cd24x · 19/01/2024 10:05

I had a whole reply about birthing options typed out and then MN lost it!

Long story short, I'll be offered an ELCS this time round after having an emergency C section last time, but still thinking about VBAC. My emergency C section wasn't actually much of an emergency (induction at term due to DS size (10lb 6oz!!!), only got to 4cm with the drip, epidural) so was quite chilled. Plenty of time to debate the pros and cons of each though. Definitely think hypnobirthing and lots of research helped my thought process whilst in labour so recommend it!

@MrsM89 sorry you had to cancel and hope you feel better. wishing the week away with you as I've got my scan at EPU next Friday too.

Was it on this thread that people had mentioned vivid dreams? I was having a really awful nightmare last night, and then woke up thinking someone was next to me whispering - was home alone. Couldn't get back to sleep after that!

When I eventually got back to sleep and woke up, I had terrible trapped wind. The joys of pregnancy!

MrsM89 · 19/01/2024 10:13

A week seems ages. On the plus side hubby is able to come with me next week and he wouldn't of been there today. Xx
