07mum.....i started to relax after my 20 weeks scan with DD. You should be feeling lots of movements soon as well, which is much more reassuring.

Hi everyone! Yes, the twins arrived last Tuesday and I am totally made up. I can't believe how perfect they are!! I think when you've had a MC you appreciate it all the more... I can't believe that this time last year I was in the depths of despair and now I am a mum of two.

Thanks for your messages re the birth - it really was what I wanted but at the time I did wonder why I was so keen to have it that way! It was nothing like I imagined it would be. Much more painful and hardgoing. They don't call it labour for nothing. when I was in the bath on the gas and air I said 'I'm never letting esther have a baby!' and straight afterwards I was like 'how am i ever going to do that again?' but obviously you do forget because what you get at the end is so magical. My labour was more painful than mornal anyway cos I had my waters broken - apparently once the membranes go there is nothing cushioning the head of the baby against the cervix so it is more painful.

My milk has come in today which is wonderful - so satisfying. The babies look drunk on it and it is so cute when it spills out their mouths!

Hope everyone else is well.. will keep checking in to update you!

kd73 · 11/05/2008 14:54

neenz CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Theo and Esther are absolutely adorable!

lol jules - hope it works anyway!

Hi everyone else, haven't really caught up yet so hope everyone is well. Not much news from me except I've been seeing the baby moving from the outside the last few days and it's really starting to feel real now - 24 wks on Wednesday! I still manage to start getting paranoid if I go more than a few hours between kicks though, I know I'm never going to stop worrying until this little one is safely in my arms, then I'll be worrying other stuff, sigh...

ronshar · 12/05/2008 12:06

Jules I should think your DP will live to regret that little song. I thought swimming was good for turning babies. Is that true or more nonsence?

DonDons · 12/05/2008 13:52

Jules - pmsl again!

Yup - swimming did the trick for me. Unfortunately contractions and 1 and a half hours of pushing convinced the baby to turn back around again (head in right place but facing up instead of down) so you never know!

ALBS - going pretty well thanks Amelie is sleeping and feeding really well and has almost outgrown her newborn clothes after 2 and a half weeks! Getting used to being a family and fitting aorund each other is lovely. Knicker checking has now been replaced by paranoid 'is she still breathing' checks gaaaaaaaaaaaaah

tryingnottoobsess · 12/05/2008 14:21

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me butting in, most of you ladies seem a LOT further along than I am.... Last week I got my 3rd BFP in a year, having mc the first two at approx 8 wks (both stopped developing at 6w).

I am obviously ecstatic to be pg again, but have been frantically checking my knickers every 10 seconds (feels like) and today got the dreaded blood... just a few drops, but red.

I have already been to the doc to tell them about my BFP... call me a pessimist, but I wanted to get my 3rd preg on record asap in case I misacarry early, so I'll be eligible for investigations.

So what should I do now? I think a scan this early would be pointless (4.5w), so do I just wait? When is the earliest that I can sensibly get scanned - 5w? 6w?

Any advice welcome.....

and by the way, it is so nice to see all the knicker checkers having healthy pregancies and beautiful babies... makes me hopeful.

ronshar · 12/05/2008 14:52

Welcome. You are in the right place. Maybe we should add that to our thread title. TRYING NOT TO OBSESS BUT STILL CHECKING OUR KNICKERS.

I would go to GP to get it on record as you rightly said. Also a scan before 6weeks has very little value. At 6 weeks you will be able to see a very little baby rather than a kinda blob of stuff meant in the nicest possible way of course.
Did the doctors give you any idea why previous pregnancies have stopped at 6/8 weeks?

Stay with us and we shall try to keep you sane. At the very least we will make you laugh.

tryingnottoobsess · 12/05/2008 15:05

Thanks Ronshar, makes me feel better that you think I'm doing the right thing. And thanks for inviting me to stay. I don't post much as it's a bit awkward (at work!), but I shall be lurking here, trying not to obsess, until 6w!

No suggestions from docs about previous 2 mc, only bad luck, and that I need to have 3 before I can be referred. Sympatheitic, but not very helpful.

KashaSarrasin · 12/05/2008 15:11

Hi tryingnottoobsess and welcome I too had 2 m/c in quick succession before this pregnancy, and have had lots of bleeding this time round as well!

I'd definitely go to the GP. When to scan is always a tricky question - with DS and this pg we were lucky enough to see heartbeats at scans around 6.5 weeks but often a hb isn't visible till later, so an inconclusive early scan may worry you even more.

If you can persuade your GP to do betaHCG blood tests and/or test progesterone levels that may give you an indication that everything's progressing normally, but AFAIK lots of GPs are quite reluctant to do this (I guess because of the cost?)

Anyway I hope your stay here is long and uneventful, we'll try and stop you getting too crazy!

tryingnottoobsess · 12/05/2008 16:00

Thanks Kasha, hadn't thought of the blood tests, might be a good angle with the doc until a scan would show anything.

Getting our lot to do anything other than murmur a few sypathetic words is like getting blood out of a stone. Like you say, it's prob a budget thing, but it makes going to the doc an event I have to steel myslef for!

It's really reassuring to hear that you're having a successful pg after miscarriages even with bleeding. I've been assuming based on previous experience that blood is very bad news. How far along are you now?

07mumstheword · 12/05/2008 17:17

Tryingnottoobsess I had two MC's last July & September, my GP assured me it was just very bad luck then I got 3rd BFP this Feb. Both of mine didn't make it past 6 wks and durning this PG at 6 wks I started to bleed again, the dissapointment was immense.

My GP sent me for a scan and I was dated at 6 + 1 with a "good" heartbeat. I'm now 17 wks and so far so good. Try not to worry as bleeding can be normal and hopefully your GP will send you for an early scan with your history of previous MC's. All the very best wishes to you and your little bean.

poppy27 · 12/05/2008 17:25

Hi
Also quite new to mn but have lurked and read a bit in the past few weeks and hope you don't mind me posting here either. I'm 6 weeks preg after having a mc in feb. Yesterday and today I had a bit of coloured mucus and to cut a long story short called the epu who very kindly scanned me today and found a heartbeat. They were v kind and said obv they could only guarantee me for today and sent me home with letters to hand in to my gp and midwife (I haven't even booked in yet as thought it too early). Just praying now the spotting will stop. Feeling v paranoid and also doing plenty runs to the loo to check. I have a son who is 5 and it took us 4 years of trying to get this far again so fingers crossed. Thanks for listening.

tryingnottoobsess · 12/05/2008 17:29

Hi 07MTW, that's really good to hear. I'm trying not to think about it... not all that successfully, considering how much I've been on here when I should be working though

So many people seem to sail through pg without a care in the world. I can't even imagine getting to the stage when I can announce my pg, let alone anything else!

Accupuncture tonight, which'll be nice.

Thanks again guys.

lackaDAISYcal · 12/05/2008 20:51

hi tringnottoobsess and poppy . All welcome here

trying, it's possible that the bit of spotting you have had is an implantation bleed which usually occurs around the time your period would have been due, so try not to worry. Loads of us have had bleeding and gone on the have a healthy pregnancy. I bled quite heavily at six weeks with my DD, and rushed to the EPU and saw a HB at 6+1. This time around, we paid for a private viability scan at the same gestational age and only saw the yolk sac; they couldn't even see the foetal pole. there was something, but it was too small to measure. It made me worry until my MW found a HB using a hand gheld doppler at 10 weeks. I would say wait till 7 weeks until yoou get a scan to be sure of seeing something. I'd had two mcs 6 mo apart before DD and was also told it was just "one of those things". The EPU and my MW were great though when I was pregnant with DD.

poppy, good that you saw the HB . jules posted some stats yesterday evening about risk with gest age that might help to reassure you.

Nice to meet you both and hope to see you with us for the duration....this thread was such a lifeline to me with DD and is proving to be again this time around.

dondons, sounds like you are doing well and A is thriving . Are you still BFing?

cricri · 13/05/2008 07:59

Welcome tryingnottoobsess and Poppy Hope the spotting has stopped for both of you now. The early weeks are very worrying when you've had a mc.
I had a scan at 7+3 this time around for reassurance (I had a mmc last year with no indication that anything was wrong until a scan at 13 weeks). Having an early scan definitely helped, although unfortunately I don't think the worrying ever stops...
Trying I started having acupuncture in January this year as I was desperate to be pg after mc. I've continued having it to support this pregnancy and I really think it helps.
Hope your stay with us is long and uneventful anyway!

tryingnottoobsess · 13/05/2008 09:34

Morning ladies, how is everyone doing? Hi Poppy, hope this morning is better for you.

Thanks Daisy, sounds like you had a few stressful times but have come through in one piece!

Cricri, I'm not sure if I believe in the acu, but my lady is so gentle and calming, and does her treatments in her conservatory right next to the sea, and I just love it, so I don't care if it's the acu or the overall experience that helps!

Still bleeding a little bit, but feeling a lot more positive.

poppy27 · 13/05/2008 11:00

Hi Daisy
checked back and read the stats which were very reassuring.

Cricri, I had one session of accupuncture earlier this year when I was ttc and I found it quite relaxing as well. Am hoping to have some reiki soon as my dad's cousin has her reiki master's and has moved closer to our area and has offered to give it a try.

Tryingnottoobsess, I have still a little mucus this morning as well. It is so hard to concentrate on anything else just now. I hope your spotting stops soon and you get some benefit from the acu. Good luck.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 13/05/2008 11:33

Hello everyone, would anyone mind if I joined you all?

I had a MC in Jan, am now about 5 weeks pregnant, very scared, very un-excited, and very down in the dumps, but very hopeful. I already have 2 DS's, 6yo and 17mo.

Have an obsession with checking my knickers, at least 2 or 3 times an hour then I'll go a couple of hours or so when I refuse to check incase there is something there.
