Thought I'd make a new thread before the old one filled up completely.

Into the second trimester and beyond 😊

Hi all!
I had said hello in the previous thread but then dipped out as it wasn't helping my anxiety.

Happy to report our 12 week scan today went fabulously, with a naughty, wriggly baby making me laugh lots 💕 it was so lovely, our scanner was connected to a TV screen on the wall so we could both see really well 😁 and we've been measured a bit ahead so due on 18th June, will be 13 weeks tomorrow! Can't believe the second trimester is here already!

Hope everyone else is doing well 💕

Catson · 11/12/2023 13:15

Ahh that's great news @Hotmalibu94, always nice to get moved forward a bit too 🙈 I have my 12 week scan next week where I'm 12w5d, but will see, hoping I might move forward a little 😂

Hotmalibu94 · 11/12/2023 13:27

@Catson I was meant to be 12+2 so only just 12 weeks and suddenly I'm basically 13 😅 hopefully will be the same for you! Nice to get it done a smidge quicker so we can meet our bubs 😁❤️

PurpleIsTheColour · 11/12/2023 13:51

I can highly recommend prune juice for constipation if eating more fibre doesn’t help. I drank so much with my first pregnancy and it really helped me in the third trimester when it got pretty bad, so worth trying. Drink it cool from the fridge though as it’s not the best taste when it’s warm.

On another note, I started using my fetal doppler last week and managed to pick up my little boys heartbeat pretty easily. I can also tell when he’s moving because I have to keep chasing him with the doppler😂 I did the same with my daughter until 20 weeks when she went into a clearer pattern of movements and I stopped using it after that as it can be more dangerous than useful. It does give you an extra reassurance at least until the little one is a bit bigger so the movements are a lot easier to feel. 😊

Hello all,

Looking for some reassurance here! I’m 11+ 4 weeks, and all going well so far. On Friday (11+2) something really silly happened- my DH was throwing a rugby ball (in my living room!) and I got hit on the lower left side of my tummy.. right next to where I imagine the uterus is. It felt sore, especially when I pressed on it. Absolutely freaked out. Was sooo upset with him. We Went to A&E the next day where they scanned the baby and all was well. No bleeding. No more pain.

But I’m just worrying myself silly thinking of whether I’ve caused permanent damage to the baby 😭 it’s so small!

I imagine getting bumped in the tummy is quite common. Anyone have anything like this and was it all okay?

Thank you!

Suchardchoccy · 11/12/2023 14:48

@1sttimemummy2b I wouldn't worry if your scan was okay, you will be having your 12 week scan soon too so you can have more reassurance then!

When I was pregnant with my second, my then 1 year old was kicking me in the stomach when climbing on me all the time. Now I'm pregnant with my third and my first is 2 so it's even worse now 🤣 my 9 month old does kick my stomach but not as much as my 2 year old!

Hope this makes you feel better!

VJ88 · 11/12/2023 15:17

Hello @1sttimemummy2b, I totally know how you feel. When I was about 7 weeks my very large cat decided to use my stomach as a trampoline and I was so stressed, but there is a lot of cushioning between your baby and the outside world, even if you're quite a slim person. I've since had two early scans, currently 11 weeks and baby is doing well ☺️

DanisEndo · 11/12/2023 18:45

@Stephy1024 cant wait to here how it goes!!!

Has anyone come across any good resources for new dads? Podcasts or books / audio books? Finding everything is aimed at mums or a couple of Middle Ages comedians moaning about dad life! Know DH would like something to feel more involved

There are a lot of books for Dads, DH is reading this one; We're Pregnant! The First Time Dad's Pregnancy Handbook a.co/d/7BEwmFe.

It's a bit Americanised I think but the basics are much the same.

Catson · 11/12/2023 20:44

@DanisEndo if you have, or if you don't download the 'flo' app you can now link a partner to it, so I think if you registered your pregnancy on it it would give him updates as baby grows etc too.

There's also this app if you're in one of the areas listed on the website https://thedadpad.co.uk/app/ but there's also a guide you can buy and have posted and it doesn't seem much.

DadPad | DadPad app | Essential guide for new dads

Use the link on this page to freely download the DadPad app for your area - available for Apple and Android smartphones and tablets.

How is everyone feeling? I feel like I've hit a brick wall today, have absolutely no energy

Same as you tbh. I feel like with this pregnancy I have zero energy and constantly sleepy. I'm 11w 6d and I feel so lethargic still and run out of steam quite quickly. I do have an 11.5 month old though who's keeping me very very busy. Sad

Wheeeeee · 12/12/2023 08:28

I'm 12+4 and have tentatively started feeling a little better in the last couple of days. Still very tired but the nausea isn't quite as all-consuming and I haven't been sick since Saturday. I even have the odd half hour where I don't feel nauseous at all! Hoping it will continue improving into the second trimester now. Hope everyone else starts to feel better soon Flowers

Hi everyone. We got our antenatal screening test results back today - 1 in 5000 for T21, T18 and T13 ("lower risk"). I think I read somewhere that NHS results are capped at 1 in 5000 - does anyone know if that's right? Just wondering why it's "lower" and not "low". My partner is quite keen to get an NIPT but I'm thinking it's probably not necessary. Any words of wisdom appreciated 😊

DemelzaRobins · 12/12/2023 09:01

@Mountainview8 - I've found all bran with swiss style muesli helpful. I either have a bowl for breakfast or a smaller bowl later in the day as a snack.

I have IBS and take meds which cause constipation and all bran has always worked well for me. You can also take some laxatives like lactulose (check with GP or midwife first) in pregnancy.

I would steer clear of bananas - they can constipate. Otherwise, eat lots of fruit and veg and drink plenty of water.

oop · 12/12/2023 09:06

I'm feeling much better generally (16 weeks this week) although I've been having quite a few dizzy episodes so I'm glad I'm seeing the midwife this week so I can get my blood pressure checked!
Started to feel little movements now too which is lovely!

@Faithincats that's as good as it gets! Mine was 10x higher risk than yours and it's still "lower risk". I'm not getting an NIPT. I considered it but my OH thinks it's still a ridiculously low risk (1 in 500) so no need and he's probably right 😅

My results were 1 in 4946 for T13 and 1 in 9084 for T13 and T18.

I think each NHS trust has slightly different cut offs for what they consider higher risk but isn't it usually somewhere more like 1 in 150?

I wouldn't worry with your results, the risk looks nice and low to me and your trust may have a policy of saying 'lower risk' rather than 'low risk'?

You could always ring your hospital or midwife to clarify the results?

Fiori1 · 12/12/2023 10:29

Hi everybody,

This week the 13 week ultrasound revealed a minimal Exomphalos/Omphalocele (5mm), which is very very small. The doctors and geneticist are very positive about further follow-up because it is really small (and can even disappear) plus the ultrasound was perfect.

We will see what it looks like again at 16 weeks and then we will start with punctures and examinations.
In addition, the NIPT was good.

Because it is now so small, are there any experiences that it can still grow a lot or indeed even disappear?

We hold on to the positive sounds of the doctors, but we are of course concerned..

Ad12345678 · 12/12/2023 10:42

Hi all, I hope you feel better. Yesterday my DH went to pick up neighbours we are friends with from the airport (a 15 min drive). It was dark and raining and I actually started crying over what if anything happened to him! Then I realized how absurd it was and laughed 😂 these thoughts felt so real. I’m blaming all those pregnancy hormones 😂anybody else like me?

Stephy1024 · 12/12/2023 11:19

@DanisEndo had our scan this morning. Baby doing lots of moving around with her face in the placenta. Which is at the front. But it's a Girl! 💕.

DanisEndo · 12/12/2023 11:53

@Stephy1024 ahhhhh congratulations!!! What lovely news. I’m sooo excited to find out I don’t know how anyone managed to keep it a surprise.

Stephy1024 · 12/12/2023 12:18

@DanisEndo thank you. I think I'm still in a little shock. When do you get to find out?? I had a suprise with my first. But with more than one it makes sense to know.

DanisEndo · 12/12/2023 12:26

@Stephy1024 i can imagine, do you have one of each so far? How do you think your kids will react?
I’m only 11w3d so not until feb if we wait until the 20 weeks scan 🤦🏻‍♀️ feels like a lifetime!!

Faithincats · 12/12/2023 12:27

Thanks @oop and @DemelzaRobins. I spoke to the midwife who said 1 in 5000 is as low as results go in my trust, and not to read anything into the "lower" vs "low" terminology.
