Thought I'd make a new thread before the old one filled up completely.

Into the second trimester and beyond 😊

Just an fyi I have fallen into the “not being offered to listen to the heartbeat at 16 weeks” club. gutted but hey ho.

amazing some of you are already having Bracton hicks! I’d always thought that’d be so much later on.

glasshalffull0 · 16/01/2024 19:03

@Chaiandtoast I have signed up for my local free NHS classes and some free classes from the Baby Academy and bought a book! I heard the same about NCT classes so decided not to go for it. Instead I've booked onto pregnancy yoga which I've heard nothing but amazing things about for mindfulness, aches and pains, preparing for birth etc

MorningsideMaisie · 16/01/2024 21:29

@danisendo I had my 16 week appointment with the midwife today, and was fortunate to be in the heartbeat listening camp - it was lovely and I took a wee video for my husband as he wasn’t there. Also got my whooping cough vaccine.

In terms of activity, I’ve been walking to work (used to cycle) and been swimming once since the new year. Aiming to go weekly but felt awful last week with a cold so thought it’d be better to rest instead. Going to join a pregnancy yoga class when I can soon, just need to find one local that fits with working full-time and busy evenings!

Congrats to those who’ve had their 20 week scan, can’t wait for mine three weeks today! I don’t think I have the patience to wait until birth to find out the sex so hope the baby’s not lying in a way that makes it hard to tell! Are most people planning to find out or not?

We decided not to do NCT classes as they are so expensive and heard that they can be variable quality depending on the course leader. We’re doing Bump and Baby, which is run by midwives and has a free online hypnobirthing class alongside. I’ve also signed up to the NHS classes as I’m keen to meet as many other mums in the area as I can!

Suchardchoccy · 16/01/2024 21:30

I didn't get to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week app but I didn't ask either. I did ask with my second and I remember the midwife said it's not routine anymore but she was more than happy to do it!
Tbh I completely forgot to ask this time round

Mountainview8 · 17/01/2024 11:34

I know I'm one of the first here to have the 20 week scan but if people have had them before or as they have then this time I was wondering how much information you got about the baby's measurements? The sonographer said information would go on badger notes, but all that's there is about the position of my placenta. When she was talking through what she saw on the scan it was all quite technical because she was taking to a student who was observing. I was hoping to know if the baby is measuring in track.

15rainbow · 17/01/2024 11:42

Hi, please could I join you?
I'm due 22nd June so I'm 17+4 This is my 3rd pregnancy but I lost the others at 4-5 weeks.

We've had a long journey to get here, 15 years since we started ttc. In that time I've had 4 failed IVF cycles and the miscarriages. I gave up years ago, so to say this little miracle has come as a total shock is a huge understatement! I still can't quite believe it and keeping everything crossed that this one sticks!

cosylife · 17/01/2024 12:10

@Mountainview8 my 20 week scan from Monday has the head circumference and FL measurements in the scan report, as well as how far along the measurements align with (HC is 20+1, FL is 20+5).

I also asked about femur/leg measurements and she said everything was fine but didn’t add them to the report.

@15rainbow welcome and congratulations!

Suchardchoccy · 17/01/2024 12:10

@15rainbow I'm so sorry about your previous losses and your journey TTC. But congratulations!! We have the same due date ☺️

oop · 17/01/2024 12:47

@15rainbow massive congratulations! And welcome 🤗

@Mountainview8 I also had the HC and FL measurements in my report but not abdominal circ which I definitely had for my first (different trust though).

Hi @15rainbow!

I had a consultant appointment today and they scanned me (I’m 17 weeks) and everything looked good. The baby was in a really awkward position so they couldn’t see much but the heartbeat was fine. I’m so relieved!

15rainbow · 17/01/2024 17:18

@Suchardchoccy yay happy to have a birthday buddy 😁
@MizzMarple is scanning at a consultant appointment standard? I have mine on Friday, I've bled/spotted throughout the whole pregnancy so far and had a slight increase this week. Would be amazing to get some reassurance that he/she is still ok in there! Glad all went well for you.

MizzMarple · 17/01/2024 18:20

@15rainbow no it’s not but it’s policy at my hospital if you’ve lost a pregnancy at 14+ ( I think) weeks to offer a 16 week scan for reassurance. For some reason I wasn’t offered one and I didn’t have the energy to complain. Then today I was really upset because I had to wait in the place where I got my last baby’s post mortem results (which was a shit show because I had to wait with a load of pregnant women and they thought I was pregnant too and they couldn’t find my notes. It was just awful). So the consultant found a spare scan room to scan me to calm me down. So a bit of a faff but we got there in the end!

If you’re bleeding though will they not offer you one anyway? I know how nerve wracking it is waiting.

15rainbow · 17/01/2024 18:33

@MizzMarple
I'm so sorry you went through all that, it sounds awful! Did you have anyone with you? I'm glad they were kind and put your mind at rest.

Sounds like I probably wont get one in that case but I might ask if they could just listen for a heartbeat. I had a lot of early scans through EPAC at 6,7,8,9 and 10 weeks due to my history and the bleeding. My last scan was the 12 week and nothing since then. I know I'm very lucky to have had all those scans but I just want to enjoy the pregnancy which is hard when the worry of bleeding is always there. Definitely looking forward to some reassuring kicks!

Goldie1234 · 19/01/2024 17:53

@MizzMarple sorry to hear you were put in such an awful position. Hope you're starting to feel better.

Had anyone else not had / been offered a 16 week midwife appointment? I've had my 20 week scan and midwife appointments booked in since my booking in appointment at 8 weeks. Just wondered if others aren't getting a 16 week midwife appointment as standard ?

MizzMarple · 19/01/2024 18:04

@15rainbow how did your appointment go today?

15rainbow · 19/01/2024 18:39

@Goldie1234 I think you should have been offered one. Mine was booked at my 8 week booking in apt. Could you ask your midwife for one?

@MizzMarple it went well thanks, had a few tests and talked through some things. It was decided I'll be having growth scans from 24 weeks. Didn't get a scan today but she did find a heartbeat with the Doppler so at least I can relax a bit

Goldie1234 · 19/01/2024 21:01

@MizzMarple glad you've been given the extra scans !

Thanks everyone ! You've prompted me to have a look into my folder and the 16 week appointment is marked as 16 - 20 weeks, so must be a local thing. My 20 weeks scan was also at 22 weeks, which I asked to rebook because of a holiday and they said they shouldn't really do it earlier because it has to be at a specific time. I thought yeah.. 20 weeks ! 🤷🏽‍♀️ maybe just a big back log

Hope everyone is having a nice restful Friday evening on the sofa 😅 I'm falling asleep waiting for my partner to bring home a take away 😴

Suchardchoccy · 19/01/2024 21:07

@Goldie1234 also on the sofa, but with my 11 month and 2 year old asleep with us 😴 enjoy your takeaway 🤩😋

Goldie1234 · 20/01/2024 08:48

@Suchardchoccy does that mean you're having.... 3 under 3 !!!!!????

Suchardchoccy · 20/01/2024 12:19

@Goldie1234 yep 🥲

glasshalffull0 · 20/01/2024 16:39

I fall into the 16 week heartbeat heard camp. I didn't ask- it totally skipped my mind but the midwife offered. Very strange how inconsistent it is!

CamdenQueen · 21/01/2024 08:14

Hi everyone hope you’re all feeling well.

I’m in Ireland and we don’t get offered a 16 wk appointment 😕 it feels like such a long wait between 12wk scan and 20wk. I’m hoping everything is ok in there.

quick question, this is my first pregnancy so not sure how I’ll feel. I have a work training course in London on the 16/17th of May which i’d have to fly for, due date is 28th of June. I could defer it till next year if needed, would you fly this close to due date? Will I be really uncomfortable sitting for a two day lecture essentially? Any experiences welcome!

DemelzaRobins · 21/01/2024 08:36

@CamdenQueen - I don't think I would go. If you did go you'll want to make sure you have watertight travel insurance. You may need a fit to fly note from your GP as well to travel.

The risk of having your baby early is slim but if you did you'd likely be stuck in the UK for weeks. I also imagine you'd be uncomfortable at that stage for the flight and conference.

waster86 · 21/01/2024 09:11

@CamdenQueen that's a really tricky one to answer as everyone feels so differently towards the end.
Speaking personally, with my first I felt really good in my 3rd trimester and worked as normal and comfortably until 39 weeks.
You prob would need to get a drs note or a note from a midwife to fly though so they might be able to advise better on your individual risks!
