@LeeanneD11 yeah pop to triage and let them know and they may examine you. At my trust only a doctor is able to do an internal examination before 37 weeks, and has to be with a speculum, so they don’t touch the cervix and trigger pre-term labour, so don’t know if yours is the same. I only know this because I’ve had mine checked three times in 24 hours and each time had to wait ages for a doctor because the midwife can’t do it for me until after Tuesday 🙈🙈

The doctor checked my cervix last time , I just get intense Braxton hicks , and then cramps in my leg , I feel like his pushing more down then he was before my daughter was born at 36+4 and got a feeling he will be the same lol 😂 but would like him to cook a little longer xx

WriMum22 · 29/10/2023 19:21

@LeeanneD11 If he does you’ll both be well looked after at the hospital and you’ll just get those cuddles a little earlier than expected 🥰

Disneyologist2 · 29/10/2023 19:24

Just found this thread and jumping on for any advice/ experiences, hope that’s ok!
. I’m 39+6 today and have been having contractions on and off since Wednesday evening. They go all day 10-15 mins apart and are intense enough that I know they aren’t BH but don’t seem to get more intense. They then die off every evening from about 10pm and start up at 9am the next morning. I went to triage on Thursday and the midwife said I’m about 1cm dilated and my cervix is near the front. I feel so disheartened that everything is taking so long!
I have spent endless hours walking, on the ball, in the bath. Nothing seems to make a difference!

For those who have had babies before, did you get signs labour was near, or did you just go into spontaneous labour? I’m now 39+1, finally finished work 2 days ago, but I just feel useless now that I’m not working.

I think working lots helped keep my mind off the pains a lot, and now I’m just spending all day in bed as it’s the only position that takes the pressure off my ribs. Which is just shitty for my mental health. I can’t complain as I’ve had pretty much an anxiety free / straightforward pregnancy, and I haven’t been stressed at all, but I am just finding myself feeling worse by the day and I hate feeling sorry for myself.

I’ve had zero signs of labour being close at all: no Braxton hicks / no real contractions / no loss of plug or leaking of water / baby is still way way up high and kicking me in the ribs.

It’s my first pregnancy and I’m desperate for a sign that she’s coming soon!

Psqueak87 · 29/10/2023 23:50

Just to add, I’m using my exercise ball and still trying to walk as much as I can inbetween feeling sorry for myself in bed…but baby seems happy staying up as high as she can.

Thack · 30/10/2023 03:03

@Psqueak87 on DC1 my waters just broke all of a sudden while I was lying in bed. It was just before 37 weeks.
I'd had no change in tightenings, no plug loss and I'd felt baby drop down low only for a few minutes in the night for one or two nights beforehand (I could take a deep breath!). All very spontaneous.

It's a hard transition going from work to home, especially when you have the frustration of being too pregnant to get stuff done!
One of the last pregnancy challenges is to rest (when you instinctively want to nest!). I've not been past 38 weeks, so take my hat off to you for coping this far, especially with working!

Psqueak87 · 30/10/2023 03:26

@Thack thank you! Stories of it happening without warning make me hopeful! I’m in another group and from everyone else’s posts it seems like I’m the only one who has absolutely zero signs that the end is near.

I know it’s near as my dr will be inducing me two weeks today if I’ve not gone into labour yet, I’m just being silly because I feel useless and can’t imagine two more weeks of this.

most of the stuff is already done, just some cleaning to do really, and my partner is amazing and actively encouraging me to do nothing, I just find it hard.

Luckily my old faithful dog is always down to nap, so I have a friend to lie in bed with me all day!

had my last acupuncture appointment today as my acupuncturist is going away on holiday for 2 weeks, was hoping it might do the trick but no luck there! Just had a spicy curry too!

@Psqueak87 @Disneyologist2
I'm almost 40 weeks and feel like I've had on and off mild contractions too. Just when I think it's ramping up...it stops.
Still having rib pain so don't think baby has dropped either. No other active signs of labour.. annoyingly

Disneyologist2 · 30/10/2023 06:52

It’s so frustrating 😩 I was not someone who had any interest in trying to induce labour. I was not keen to get baby out until they were ready. But 4 1/2 days of contractions has made me feel so frustrated and confused.

LeeanneD11 · 29/10/2023 18:57

Has any experienced cramps but they go to your leg. I've been having this for a few days , I've got an appointment with consultant Tuesday so will mention to them, but it's like a shooting pain more than anything and the cramping is intense but not that intense to go triage xx

Yes, i had it when i was in labour with my first!!!

whatamess100 · 30/10/2023 06:59

@LeeanneD11 how are you this morning? No change for me so I'm holding out for friday!!! Scared! Also so tired i just don't sleep at night anymore

LeeanneD11 · 30/10/2023 07:00

@whatamess100 wow 🤩, I'll keep an eye on this , I've got a scan today and I'll see how I go today and I'll pop up to triage too and explain what's going on wjth me , how you doing xx

I'm ok had a bad stomach ache last night , I'm not sleeping very well myself either , only have 2 weeks to go , but I don't think he will make to his eviction date amount of things I'm going through lol 😂 xxx

Travellingislife · 30/10/2023 07:08

I’m 39 weeks and not feeling anything either, the last two days I have perhaps felt a bit “ off” and bloated but that’s just pregnancy I guess. The baby still sits high too.
I’m not good at relaxing and I’m always on the go, but apparently you need oxytocin for contractions to start ( and it won’t be released if you’re stressing around!) so I’ll try and do breathing exercises, take relaxing baths etc and see if it helps. I’m in no rush to get the baby out really but I don’t want to be induced.
My first one came at 42 weeks and I felt nothing until my water broke.

PinkPlantCase · 30/10/2023 07:21

@Psqueak87 I’m my first was born at 41+1, I had some cramps in the evening for around a week before but they weren’t painful or anything particularly like contractions I was just a bit crampy. But that’s all, my waters didn’t break until a few hours before DS was born. I did probably know the day before I went into labour that it was very close to happening.

I know it’s hard but find things you enjoy, oxytocin is the hormone that gets labour going! Make some more nice cakes if that’s something you enjoy! 😄 The very end of pregnancy and caring for a newborn is a huge change in pace from working. Try and see this time as a useful transition and do give your body chance to rest too.

Also with all of the things you’re trying to bring on Labour remember that sex is both great for oxytocin and sperm contains a lot of prostaglandins which help to soften the cervix 🤣

Mrsrobinsonx · 30/10/2023 08:17

@Disneyologist2 i had the same with my 1st, I had 6 days of the same contractions every night then woke up and they were gone.. until 1 night they carried on 😆 they said it was the latent phase of labour. It’s just your cervix starting to soften and dilate usually. X

LilmissCa · 30/10/2023 08:45

@LeeanneD11 my last 2 labours were pain down the legs also. My first I was so shocked by this, expected it then on the 2nd.

@Psqueak87 clary safe oil is meant to help bring on labour. I've some here but not used yet.. in no rush lol also sex as mentioned, anything you enjoy or funny movies to make you laugh.

I've never experienced it before , and now I've woken up to the worst stomach ache ever , baby is still active which is good. But the back ache is so intense at times and I feel sick and so sweaty sometimes lol 😂 xx

Disneyologist2 · 30/10/2023 08:48

Thank you this is reassuring to hear x

LeeanneD11 · 30/10/2023 11:38

Is it normal to be crippling over in pain , and having hot flushes , not having cramps but it just happened out the blue . Xx

Definitely worth ringing triage irregardless. Especially if you've been having issues generally its never a bad idea to get yourself and baby checked over.

Can you tell what it feels like? I've had stomach pains that had me doubled over a couple times after eating stuff that gave me stomach ache, but I could 100% tell it was a usual gastrointestinal pain feeling rather than something more uterine. I knew what it was so I left it and subsided fine.

GreenAventurinee · 30/10/2023 13:55
