Congratulations @Nov2023 😊

Currently 5 days pp, and I’ve woke up this morning with the heaviest of boobs and the ache from them is unreal!
Has anyone got any tips on how to help relieve them. (Also to add we are formula feeding, and I dont want to hand express it out in case it encourages the supply)

JD90 · 28/11/2023 09:38

@Katiec1 hand expressing enough to relieve the discomfort shouldn't encourage supply. Because you aren't using all that is there and 'refilling' so your body will not replace what it thinks is needed to feed baby.

JD90 · 28/11/2023 09:39

@Katiec1 breast massage can also help if you are dead set against expressing at all

Katiec1 · 28/11/2023 09:48

Brilliant! Thanks @JD90 I’ll give the hand expressing a try. I was worried to do anything like that at all in case it encouraged supply.
Thanks again 😊

JD90 · 28/11/2023 09:52

@Katiec1 as long as you are just expressing the minimum amount to relieve the discomfort you should be fine

Mrsrobinsonx · 28/11/2023 10:14

Hey! When did everyone’s little ones get back to birth weight? X

Hey! When did everyone’s little ones get back to birth weight? X

My little one is 2 weeks old and mine still hasn't gone back to birth weight . He is being weighed weekly . Xx

LeeanneD11 · 28/11/2023 10:18

@Katiec1
I was advised to get a hot flannel and gently massage them with the flannel on for 3 mins on each breast and then hand express . I did this as my breast was so engorged and heavy . And what a relief it was to have something hot on them to the relief the pain and discomfort xx

DollyGx · 28/11/2023 10:41

@Katiec1 i was advised to just leave them alone as much as I could if I didn’t plan on breastfeeding. I had about 2 days of sore boobs then they went back to normal. I wore a tight pre-pregnancy bra to kind of ‘bind’ them and just popped some breast pads in and that seemed to help them go down. Some cabbage leaves that have been in the fridge can also help with the pain.

Mrsrobinsonx · 28/11/2023 11:10

@LeeanneD11 yeah my little girl is 2 weeks tomorrow and not gaining much, I’m not worried and neither is midwife but just wondering what was normal. She was 7lb 7, then went to 6lb 15 and now she’s 7lb 1, so gaining since day 3 but slowly x

Your little girl is very similar to my my little boy his birth weight was 7lb 7oz , Day 5 he went down to 6lb 11oz and then day 13 went up to 7lb 2oz . Reweigh on Monday to check xx

@Nov2023 Congratulations!!!

Thank God my little girl is now home after a -frankly traumatising- 3 days of lumbar puncture (3 attempts), iv cannula (3 attempts), blood draws, oxygen, tube feeding and God knows what else.
She had bronchiolitis but they were concerned for sepsis too.
At one point her antibiotics were going under her skin instead of into her vein and her poor little hand was like a big blue balloon.
Watching her so helpless was just awful and what made it harder was that she was too weak/breathless to breastfeed so I had to pump but I really struggled to make much milk. Thankfully we got given some donor milk. I'm still pumping now as baby is too congested to feed but I really hope we can get her breastfeeding again soon.

Side note: The NHS really are marvellous but they seemed so stretched it was awful. It took hours for a doctor to see little one and make a treatment plan, even though she couldn't breathe and had really low oxygen. They said there were 3 doctors for 15 critical a&e admissions.
And it took a day and a half for us to get a bed. Still, all of the staff were just incredible and I'm very grateful for what they did.

With regards others talking about birth weight, we're in the same boat. She had been gaining but since being poorly she's lost again. She was born at 2.72kg and she's now 2.52kg at 16 days old :(
However, she's been taking the expressed feeds really well so I'm optimistic she'll soon gain, bless her.

Travellingislife · 28/11/2023 14:18

@Alloveragain3 glad she is back home, it must’ve been awful seeing her like that!

@Mrsrobinsonx my little girl had gained 135g (above her birthweight ) at her 10 day weigh in. The midwife said it was unusual for a breastfed baby though.

DollyGx · 28/11/2023 15:17

Jeezo @Alloveragain3 that sounds really traumatic, I’m so glad she’s home and on the mend x

TMI2000 · 28/11/2023 17:10

@FlyingHighFlyingLow i had a stretch and sweep on a Thursday and I had gone into early labour on Friday and had my baby on Saturday. I think mine was deffo effective!
I have heard though that if you have more than one they can become more painful but mine was just uncomfortable.

GreenAventurinee · 29/11/2023 18:20

Hi everyone little update from us. Baby girl is changing all the time it seems! Still a little one though - 6lb 9oz at 4 weeks, but she’s doing amazingly. She had a cold last two days and had a super stuffy nose. We gave her saline spray and she seems a lot better today. Still sleeping really well too at night.
There can’t be many babies left to be born now!

@GreenAventurinee those photos are so bloody adorable 💗💗

GreenAventurinee · 29/11/2023 21:02

Thank you @JD90 how are you doing 😊 x

JD90 · 29/11/2023 21:32

@GreenAventurinee not too bad, little un is gaining weight like an absolute trooper, only dropped an ounce from birth to day 5 and has since put on 6oz in days 5 to 10.
Exclusive pumping has been exhausting but definitely worth it for me. Nipples have also managed to heal up almost completely which is amazing and the midwife is coming to my house tomorrow around feeding time (hopefully) to help me out and see if we can reestablish breastfeeding now she's a bit bigger and more awake. So 🤞 we get to have the feeding journey I wanted, I'll keep trying but either way I'll keep pumping so dad can also be involved as he really loves it.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 29/11/2023 22:00

@TMI2000 hopefully will be same after mine tomorrow, but I've not had any signs at all so not holding out hope they'll be able to do it! Looks like I'll almost definitely be having a december baby!

Such cute photos 😍 @GreenAventurinee , hope all goes well @JD90

PinkPlantCase · 30/11/2023 12:23

@FlyingHighFlyingLow I had a sweep with my first just before 41 weeks, I went into labour that night 😊 I was already about 2cm dilated so it was easy got for them to do. I asked them to see what my cervix was doing first before I consented to the sweep.

This time I decided at 40+2 and said I’d have one at 41+2 at my next appointment if I was still pregnant. Baby was born on 40+6 anyway.

@GreenAventurinee shes so sweet!!

We’re on day 4 now, little girl is feeding like a champ. My milk came in yesterday. She gets weighed tomorrow so we’ll see if she’s lost any weight.

@JD90 hope it goes well with the breastfeeding today! You’ve done so well with all that pumping.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 30/11/2023 13:33

@PinkPlantCase I had mine today at 40+2, already 2cm dilated and significant thinning (down from like 4cm to 2cm). Big surprise as not felt so much as a niggle! Fingers crossed baby soon!

LeeanneD11 · 30/11/2023 19:30

Hi c section mummas

A quick question basically I had a section just over 2 weeks ago , 16 days ago , can anyone tell me when you was able to have a bath please I'm dying for a long soak in the bath as I'm hating having the showers constantly 😂😂 and can't remember when you can start having baths xx

foodislife1 · 30/11/2023 21:06

@LeeanneD11 I was told to wait 6weeks before fully submerging the scar in water
