Anyone that’s had a forceps birth - can you remember how long you took to heal/not feel sore? I’m 16 days post birth and I still feel soooo tender down there, really can’t walk far before I just get too sore. This is my first baby and I thought (maybe naively!) I’d be out doing nice walks with baby by this point but I can only walk about 15/20 mins before I need to stop because I’m too sore. I know everyone will heal differently, but are there others that are still sore over 2 weeks after birth? Am I just being impatient? I also developed thrush in the last week just to add to the misery lol :)

PinkPlantCase · 01/12/2023 08:00

@DollyGx I had a very straightforward water birth with some stitches and it was still very sore to sit down after 2 weeks! I remember complaining about it when I was discharged from the midwives. I think it can be easy to forget after a vaginal birth that our bodies still needs lots of time to recover not just from the birth but pregnancy too.

For me last time it was about 6 months before I could comfortably have sex and probably about a year before I thought my body was fully back to normal with no left over aches, pains or muscle weakness from pregnancy. Obviously everyone is different too! But hopefully that helps

DollyGx · 01/12/2023 08:12

@PinkPlantCase thanks that’s really reassuring! And yeah I’m forgetting the impact of actual pregnancy too!

I had forceps and 3rd degree tear. Week 1 I was surprised how little pain I was in ( I think it was all the adrenaline from having a new baby etc) however week 2 it upped massively and I had to go the GP to get more dihydrocodeine as paracetamol and ibuprofen just weren't cutting it. Just made it to 3 weeks and only very rarely need painkillers but some days is worse than others and I will take something also I find having a bath makes it really painful, I'm assuming as the heat from the water gets the blood pumping and makes everything down there sensitive

DollyGx · 01/12/2023 10:44

@2023novbaby I’m the exact same, first week I felt great and thought oh this recovery is going to be a doddle! Then second week came around and I was really surprised to find the pain the same or possibly worse, think you must be right the adrenaline is still in the body! I’ve been slacking with my painkillers so I need to stay on top of them I think, but I’ll speak to the GP if I feel I need something more. Good to hear that you’re improving by week 3, hopefully I’m the same 🤞🏼not had a bath yet so think I’ll hold off on that for a while! Thanks for your reply!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 03/12/2023 08:39

Still no baby here! Stretch and sweep Thursday put me at 2cm dilated, lost mucus plug friday but still not so much as braxton hicks! No signs of labour starting, probably a blessing and a curse with this weather 😅

foodislife1 · 03/12/2023 10:59

For those who's babies have been born - have you noticed any baby acne?

DollyGx · 03/12/2023 12:03

@foodislife1 our baby is 18 days old and I’ve noticed a couple of little spots popping up on her face the last day or so, is there anything they recommend to put on it? Or are you best to leave alone do you know?

DollyGx · 03/12/2023 12:06

Anyone got babies with stuffy noses? Our little girl the past couple of days has been a bit congested, used saline drops on her last night which seemed to help a bit, have used them again this morning but she’s still sounds bunged up, I feel so bad for her and am also worried about her breathing. Has anyone ever used the nose sucker thingys? Are they any good? First baby so I’m quite worried and she’s only 18 days old

foodislife1 · 03/12/2023 12:40

@DollyGx my little one has a stuffy nose too. I've been using saline nasal drops 4-5x daily which seem to help.

I've heard just leave the acne as it is..but it's getting worse! Might dab some breast milk on it

Yep, has come up in the last week or so. Don’t worry about it, it’ll go away by itself

foodislife1 · 03/12/2023 12:41

@DollyGx I also put her in sleepyhead and took her into bathroom with me. I had a hot shower and hopefully she got some mild steam inhalation.

Get some snuffle babe- its like Vix vaporub for babies

Put a small blob in your hand and rub your hands together to warm it up

wipe hands on the corner of a muslin- both hands on the same side

hang the muslin over the side of the crib

PinkPlantCase · 03/12/2023 13:15

How many weeks are you @FlyingHighFlyingLow ?

@DollyGx ive never used one but some European friends have a medical nose sucker attachment for their vacuum! Apparently on the continent much more nose sucking goes on. I have looked at the little hand held ones in the past but a lot of the reviews say they aren’t really strong enough to do anything.

41 weeks tomorrow, I know I'm just being impatient but after all the health issues, scans etc I just desperately want him out safe and in my arms now!

BabyBabyBaby123 · 03/12/2023 14:18

@DollyGx be careful with Vicks/Olbas etc, most are only for 3 months + and can cause repository distress in younger babies.

Snuffle babe do an oil suitable from birth which can be used with a humidifier, that’s what I used when my LO had a stuffy nose.

The Lullaby Trust have a baby check app that can be used to help you decide if you need to take baby to be seen by GP/A&E etc. I used that and it said baby should be seen by GP and GP wasn’t concerned with his stuffiness or breathing, but I was told to check for laboured breathing on his chest, but it’s hard to explain. There are videos you can look at online that say when A&E is needed.

Alloveragain3 · 03/12/2023 18:09

Nose sucker thing worked really well for me when my baby had RSV last week.
I was reluctant to try but as soon as I did I loved it. So much snot! Baby doesn't love when I do it but their breathing is always much better after.
You should soften with a saline spray first.

My sucker thing was £10 from the pharmacy (maybe Snufflebabes brand, I can't remember) and worked better than the aspirator they had in the hospital!

LeeanneD11 · 03/12/2023 18:16

Hi hope all babies are doing well and mumma are too,

Has anyone babies been sick after every feed .

My little one is 19 days old and is sick after every feed it could be little amounts to literally projectile vomit, I changed his milk at one week old as wasn't agreeing with him and still being sick even when being burped.

His showing no signs of lactose , like the spots coming up on his face or the poos. But when I feed him he poos straight away and then when I change him he poos again and now making him sore down below I'm using every cream possible .

Does anyone have any advise please

Could this be the start of lactose or he is tongue tie , my daughter had this when she was a baby and now I'm thinking is he following her footsteps

thank you ❤️

JD90 · 03/12/2023 18:30

@LeeanneD11 how long does bub take to finish a bottle? How much are they having in each feed? Have you tried paced feeding?

Around 20 mins , and 4oz every 2/3 hours . Yeah I do 1/2 oz then burp xx

DollyGx · 03/12/2023 22:06

Thanks for the advice re. stuffy noses ladies! Have been using saline drops today and bought a nose sucky thing from boots which I’ve also used a couple of times - very satisfying and I think bubs is happier so hopefully a better night tonight 🤞🏼@BabyBabyBaby123 that app sounds really good will look into that thanks.

Katiec1 · 03/12/2023 23:06

The “snot sucker” was a god send on our twins. It really helps to clear them.
we have one ready to go for when herself needs it, and I’ve no doubt she will need it at some stage as they all get stuffy at some point.

Little lady is 9 days old and really suffering with constipation. Shes currently on anywhere between 2-3oz (formula) every 3 hours and is really struggling to go.
we’re doing leg stretches and moving her legs in the bike motion. It’s giving her some relief but not helping her go. Has anyone got any suggestions on what else to do or try?

Travellingislife · 04/12/2023 06:44

Is anyone using a Haakaa? If so do you sterilise it after every use? It feels excessive but maybe it’s necessary?
Hope everyone is doing ok

foodislife1 · 04/12/2023 07:06

@Travellingislife I'm
Using the tommee tipee version. Im using it frequently so just wash and leave in boiling water. Then when I need it take it out/dry it off

Travellingislife · 04/12/2023 07:08

@foodislife1 ah good idea, I’ll do the same, thank you 😊
